What prevented you from carrying on with the prayer after I beckoned you to do so? Abu Bakr replied; It does not befit the son of Abi Quhafa to lead the Prophet ﷺ in prayer. Then the Prophet ﷺ said to the people; If some problem arises during prayers; then the men should say; Subhan Allah!; and the women should clap. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2787 | Narrated Abu Qatada: I was with the Prophet on a journey between Mecca and Medina; and all of them; i.e. the Prophet ﷺ and his companions were in the state of Ihram; while I was not in that state. I was riding my horse and I used to be fond of ascending mountains. So while I was doing so I noticed that the people were looking at something. I went to see what it was; and behold it was an onager. I asked my companions; What is that? They said; We do not know. I said; It is an onager. They said; It is what you have seen. I had left my whip; so I said to them; Hand to me my whip. They said; We will not help you in that in hunting the onager. I got down; took my whip and chased the animal on my horse and did not stop till I killed it. I went to them and said; Come on; carry it! But they said; We will not even touch it. At last I alone carried it and brought it to them. Some of them ate of it and some refused to eat of it. I said to them ; I will ask the Prophet ﷺ about it on your behalf. When I met the Prophet; I told him the whole story. He said to me; Has anything of it been left with you? I said; Yes. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3611 | Narrated Asma bint Abu Bakr: When AlZubair married me; he had no real property or any slave or anything else except a camel which drew water from the well; and his horse. I used to feed his horse with fodder and drew water and sew the bucket for drawing it; and prepare the dough; but I did not know how to bake bread. So our Ansari neighbors used to bake bread for me; and they were honorable ladies. I used to carry the date stones on my head from AlZubair land given to him by Allah Messenger ﷺ and this land was two third Farsakh about two miles from my house. One day; while I was coming with the date stones on my head; I met Allah Messenger ﷺ along with some Ansari people. He called me and then; directing his camel to kneel down said; Ikh! Ikh! so as to make me ride behind him on his camel. I felt shy to travel with the men and remembered AlZubair and his sense of Ghira; as he was one of those people who had the greatest sense of Ghira. Allah Messenger ﷺ noticed that I felt shy; so he proceeded. I came to AlZubair and said; I met Allah Messenger ﷺ while I was carrying a load of date stones on my head; and he had some companions with him. He made his camel kneel down so that I might ride; but I felt shy in his presence and remembered your sense of Ghira See the glossary. On that AlZubair said; By Allah; your carrying the date stones and you being seen by the Prophet ﷺ in such a state is more shameful to me than your riding with him. Abu Talha was a strong; experienced archer who used to keep his arrow bow strong and well stretched. On that day he broke two or three arrow bows. If any man passed by carrying a quiver full of arrows; the Prophet ﷺ would say to him; Empty it in front of Abu Talha. When the Prophet ﷺ stated looking at the enemy by raising his head; Abu Talha said; O Allah Prophet! Let my parents be sacrificed for your sake! Please dont raise your head and make it visible; lest an arrow of the enemy should hit you. Let my neck and chest be wounded instead of yours. On that day I saw Aisha; the daughter of Abu Bakr and Um Sulaim both lifting their dresses up so that I was able to see the ornaments of their legs; and they were carrying the water skins of their arms to pour the water into the mouths of the thirsty people and then go back and fill them and come to pour the water into the mouths of the people again. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3774 | Narrated Anas Bin Malik: Allah Messenger ﷺ arrived at Medina with Abu Bakr; riding behind him on the same camel. Abu Bakr was an elderly man known to the people; while Allah Messenger ﷺ was a youth that was unknown. Thus; if a man met Abu Bakr; he would say; O Abu Bakr! Who is this man in front of you? Abu Bakr would say; This man shows me the Way; One would think that Abu Bakr meant the road; while in fact; Abu Bakr meant the way of virtue and good. Then Abu Bakr looked behind and saw a horse-rider pursuing them. He said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! This is a horse-rider pursuing us. The Prophet ﷺ looked behind and said; O Allah! Cause him to fall down. So the horse threw him down and got up neighing. After that the rider; Suraqa said; O Allah Prophet! Order me whatever you want. The Prophet said; Stay where you are and do not allow anybody to reach us. So; in the first part of the day Suraqa was an enemy of Allah Prophet and in the last part of it; he was a protector. Then Allah Apostle alighted by the side of the AlHarra and sent a message to the Ansar; and they came to Allah Prophet and Abu Bakr; and having greeted them; they said; Ride your camels safe and obeyed. Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr rode and the Ansar; carrying their arms; surrounded them. The news that Allah Prophet had come circulated in Medina. The people came out and were eagerly looking and saying Allah Prophet has come! Allah Prophet has come! So the Prophet ﷺ went on till he alighted near the house of Abu Ayoub. While the Prophet ﷺ was speaking with the family members of Abu Ayoub ; Abdullah Bin Salam heard the news of his arrival while he himself was picking the dates for his family from his family garden. He hurried to the Prophet ﷺ carrying the dates which he had collected for his family from the garden. He listened to Allah Prophet and then went home. Then Allah Prophet said; Which is the nearest of the houses of our kith and kin? Abu Ayoub replied; Mine; O Allah Prophet! This is my house and this is my gate. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go and prepare a place for our midday rest. Abu Ayoub said; Get up both of you with Allah Blessings. So when Allah Prophet went into the house; Abdullah Bin Salam came and said I testify that you i.e. Muhammad are Apostle of Allah and that you have come with the Truth. The Jews know well that I am their chief and the son of their chief and the most learned amongst them and the son of the most learned amongst them. So send for them i.e. Jews and ask them about me before they know that I have embraced Islam; for if they know that they will say about me things which are not correct. So Allah Messenger ﷺ sent for them; and they came and entered. Allah Messenger ﷺ said to them; O the group of Jews! Woe to you: be afraid of Allah. By Allah except Whom none has the right to be worshipped; you people know for certain; that I am Apostle of Allah and that I have come to you with the Truth; so embrace Islam. The Jews replied; We do not know this. So they said this to the Prophet and he repeated it thrice. Then he said; What sort of a man is Abdullah Bin Salam amongst you? They said; He is our chief and the son of our chief and the most learned man; and the son of the most learned amongst us. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; O Ibn Salam! Come out to them. He came out and said; O the group of Jews! Then he sent for the chiefs of Bani AlNajjar; and they came; carrying their swords. As if I am just now looking at Allah Messenger ﷺ on his camel with Abu Bakr riding behind him on the same camel and the chiefs of Bani AlNajjar around him till he dismounted in the courtyard of Abu Ayoub home. The Prophet ﷺ used to offer the prayer wherever the prayer was due; and he would pray even in sheepfolds. Then he ordered that the Masjid be built. He sent for the chiefs of Banu AlNajjar; and when they came; he said; O Banu AlNajjar! Suggest to me the price of this garden of yours. They replied No! By Allah; we do not demand its price except from Allah. In that garden there were the following things that I will tell you: Graves of pagans; unleveled land with holes and pits etc.; and date-palm trees. Allah Messenger ﷺ ordered that the graves of the pagans be dug up and; the unleveled land be leveled and the date-palm trees be cut down. The trunks of the trees were arranged so as to form the wall facing the Qibla. The Stone pillars were built at the sides of its gate. When Allah Messenger ﷺ had died; the revenue of Bahrain came; and Abu Bakr announced; Let whoever was promised something by Allah Messenger ﷺ come to me. So; I went to Abu Bakr and said; Allah Messenger ﷺ said to me; If the revenue of Bahrain came; I would give you this much and this. much. On that Abu Bakr said to me; Scoop money with both your hands. I scooped money with both my hands and Abu Bakr asked me to count it. I counted it and it was five-hundred gold pieces. The total amount he gave me was one thousand and five hundred gold pieces. Narrated Anas: Money from Bahrain was brought to the Prophet ﷺ. He said; Spread it in the Masjid. It was the biggest amount that had ever been brought to Allah Messenger ﷺ. In the meantime AlAbbas came to him and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Give me; for I gave the ransom of myself and Aqil. The Prophet said to him ; Take. He scooped money with both hands and poured it in his garment and tried to lift it; but he could not and appealed to the Prophet; Will you order someone to help me in lifting it? The Prophet ﷺ said; No. Then AlAbbas said; Then will you yourself help me carry it? The Prophet ﷺ said; No. Then AlAbbas threw away some of the money; but even then he was not able to lift it; and so he gain requested the Prophet ﷺ Will you order someone to help me carry it? The Prophet said; No. Then AlAbbas said; Then will you yourself yelp me carry it? The Prophet ﷺ said; No. So; AlAbbas threw away some more money and lifted it on his shoulder and went away. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3962 | Narrated AlBara Bin Azib: Abu Bakr came to my father who was at home and purchased a saddle from him. He said to Azib. Tell your son to carry it with me. So I carried it with him and my father followed us so as to take the price of the saddle. My father said; O Abu Bakr! Tell me what happened to you on your night journey with Allah Messenger ﷺ during Migration. He said; Yes; we travelled the whole night and also the next day till midday. when nobody could be seen on the way because of the severe heat. Then there appeared a long rock having shade beneath it; and the sunshine had not come to it yet. So we dismounted there and I levelled a place and covered it with an animal hide or dry grass for the Prophet ﷺ to sleep on for a while. I then said; Sleep; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ; and I will guard you. So he slept and I went out to guard him. Suddenly I saw a shepherd coming with his sheep to that rock with the same intention we had when we came to it. I asked him. To whom do you belong; O boy? He replied; I belong to a man from Medina or Mecca. I said; Do your sheep have milk? He said; Yes. I said; Will you milk for us? He said; Yes. He caught hold of a sheep and I asked him to clean its teat from dust; hairs and dirt. The sub-narrator said that he saw AlBara striking one of his hands with the other; demonstrating how the shepherd removed the dust. The shepherd milked a little milk in a wooden container and I had a leather container which I carried for the Prophet ﷺ to drink and perform the ablution from. I went to the Prophet; hating to wake him up; but when I reached there; the Prophet ﷺ had already awakened; so I poured water over the middle part of the milk container; till the milk was cold. Then I said; Drink; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He drank till I was pleased. Then he asked; Has the time for our departure come? I said; Yes. So we departed after midday. Suraqa Bin Malik followed us and I said; We have been discovered; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said; Dont grieve for Allah is with us. The Prophet ﷺ invoked evil on him i.e. Suraqa and so the legs of his horse sank into the earth up to its belly. The subnarrator; Zuhair is not sure whether Abu Bakr said; It sank into solid earth. Suraqa said; I see that you have invoked evil on me. Please invoke good on me; and by Allah; I will cause those who are seeking after you to return. The Prophet ﷺ invoked good on him and he was saved. Then; whenever he met somebody on the way; he would say; I have looked for him here in vain. So he caused whomever he met to return. So; the prophet carried out the expedition and when he reached that town at the time or nearly at the time of the Asr prayer; he said to the sun; O sun! You are under Allah Order and I am under Allah Order O Allah! Stop it i.e. the sun from setting. It was stopped till Allah made him victorious. Then he collected the booty and the fire came to burn it; but it did not burn it. He said to his men ; Some of you have stolen something from the booty. So one man from every tribe should give me a pledge of allegiance by shaking hands with me. They did so and the hand of a man got stuck over the hand of their prophet. Then that prophet said to the man ; The theft has been committed by your people. So all the persons of your tribe should give me the pledge of allegiance by shaking hands with me. The hands of two or three men got stuck over the hand of their prophet and he said; You have committed the theft. SahihMuslim-017-001-17724 | It has been reported on the authority of Abu Humaid AlSaidi who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed a man from the Azd tribe. called Ibn Al; Utbiya; in charge of Sadaqat to be received from Banu Sulaim. When he came back ; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him to render his account. He said: This wealth is for you i. e. for the public treasury and this is a gift presented to me. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You should have remained in the house of your father and your mother; until your gift came to you if you spoke the truth; then he addressed us. He praised God and extolled Him; and afterwards said: I appoint a man from you to a responsible post sharing with the authority that God has entrusted to me; and he comes to me saying: This wealth is for you i. e. for the public treasury and this is a gift presented to me. Why did he not remain in the house of his father and his mother and his gift came to him; if he was truthful? By God; any one of you will not take anything from the public funds without any justification; but will meet his Lord carrying it on himself on the Day of judgment. I will recognise any one of you meeting Allah and carrying a growling camel; or a cow bellowing or a goat bleating. Then he raised his hands so high that whiteness of his armpits could be seen. Abu Talha was a powerful archer who broke two or three bows that day. When a man would pass by carrying a quiver containing arrows; he would say: Spare them for Abu Talha. Whenever the Prophet ﷺ raised his head to look at the people; Abu Talha would say: Prophet of Allah; may my father and my mother be thy ransom; do not raise your head lest you be struck by an arrow shot by the enemy. My neck is before your neck. The narrator said: I saw Aisha bint Abu Bakr and Umm Sulaim. Both of them had tucked up their garments; so I could see the anklets on their feet. They were carrying water-skins on their backs and would pour water into the mouths of the people. SahihMuslim-017-001-19021 | AlBara Bin Azib reported that Abu Bakr AlSiddiq came to the residence of my father Azib and bought a haudaj from him and said to Azib: Send your son to my residence to carry this haudaj ; and my father said to me: Carry it for him. So I carried it and there went along with him with Abu Bakr my father in order to fetch its price and he Azib said to Abu Bakr: Abu Bakr; narrate to me what you both did on the night when you set out on a journey along with Allah Messenger ﷺ. He said: We set out during the night and went on walking until it was noon; and the path was vacant and so none passed by that until there appeared prominently before us a large rock. It had its shade and the rays of the sun did not reach that place. So we got down at that place. I then went to the rock and levelled the ground with my hands at the place where the Prophet ﷺ would take rest under its shade. I then set the bedding and said: Allah Messenger; go to sleep and I shall keep a watch around you. I went out and watched around him. There we saw a shepherd moving towards that rock with his flock and he intended what we intended i. e. taking rest. I met him and said to him: Young boy; to which place do you belong? He said: I am a person from Medina. I said; is there any milk in the udders of your sheep and goats? He said: Yes. He took hold of a goat; and I said to him: Clean the udder well so that it should be free from hair; dust and impurity. I saw AlBara striking his hand upon the other to give an indication how he did that. He milked the goat for me in a wooden cup which he had with him and I had with me a bucket in which I kept water for drinking and for performing ablution. I came to Allah Apostle ﷺ and did not like to awaken him from sleep but he was accidentally startled from the sleep. I poured water upon the milk till It was cold and I said: Allah Messenger; take this milk. He then took It and I was delighted and he the Holy Prophet said: Is now not the time to march on? I said: Of course. So he marched on after the sun had passed the meridian and Suraqa Bin Malik pursued us and we had been walking on soft; level ground. I said: Allah Messenger; we are about to be overtaken by them. Thereupon he said: Be not grieved. Verily; Allah is with us. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ cursed him and his horse sank into the earth. I think he also said: I know you have hurled curse upon me. So supplicate Allah for me and I take an oath that I shall turn everyone away who would come in search of you. So he Allah Messenger supplicated Allah and he was rescued and he came back and to everyone he met; he said: I have combed all this side. SahihMuslim-017-001-20169 | Saeed Bin jubair reported: I said to Ibn Abbas that Nauf AlBikali was of the opinion that Moses ﷺ ; the Apostle of Bani Israil; was not the same who accompanied Khadir; whereupon he said: The enemy of Allah tells a lie. I heard Ubay Bin Kaab say: Moses ﷺ stood up to give sermon to the people of Israil. He was asked as to who amongst the people has the best knowledge; whereupon he said: I have the best knowledge. Thereupon Allah was annoyed with him that he did not attribute the best knowledge to Him. He revealed to him: A servant amongst My servants is at the junction of two rivers who has more knowledge than yours. Moses said: How can I meet him? It was said to him: Carry a fish in the large basket and the place where you find it missing there you will find him. Thereupon Moses proceeded forth along with a young man Yusha. Joshua Bin Nan and Moses ﷺ put the fish in the basket and there went along with him the young man Yusha until they came to a certain rock and Moses and his companion went to sleep and the fish stirred in that basket and fell into the ocean and Allah stopped the current of water like a vault until the way was made for the fish. Moses and his youn. companion were astonished and they walked for the rest of the day and the night and the friend of Moses forgot to inform him of this incident. When it was morning; Moses ﷺ said to the young man: Bring for us the breakfast for we are dead tired because of this journey; and they did not feel exhausted until they had passed that place where they had been commanded to stay. He said: Dont you know that when we reached the Sakhra rock I forgot the fisii and noth ng made me forget it but the satan that I. could nit remember it? How strange is it that the fish found a way in the river? Moses said: That was what we had been aiming at. Then both of them retraced their steps until they reached Sakhra; there they saw a man covered with a cloth. Moses greeted him. Khadir said to him: Where is AlSalam in our country.? He said: I am Moses; whereupon he Khadir said: You mean the Moses of Bani Israil? He said: Yes. He Khadir said: You have a knowledge out of the knowledge of Allah which in fact Allah imparted to you and about that I know nothing and I have knowledge out of Allah knowledge which He imparted to me and about that you do not know. Moses ﷺ said to him: May I follow you so that you may teach me that with which you have been taught righteousness. He said: You will not be able to bear with me; how you will be able to bear that about which you do not know? Moses said: Thou wilt find me patient; nor shalt I disobey you in aught. Khadir said to him: If you were to follow me; then do not ask me about anything until I myself speak to you about it. He said: Yes. So Khadir and Moses set forth on the bank of the river that there came before them a boat. Both of theni talked to them the owners of the boat so that they might carry both of them. They had recognised Khadir and they carried them free. Khadir thereupon took hold of a plank in the boat and broke it away. Moses said: These people have carried us without any charge and you attempt to break their boat so that the people sailing in the boat may drown. This is something grievous that you have done. He said: Did I not say that you would not bear with me? He said: Blame me not for what I forgot and be not hard upon what I did. Then both of them got down from the boat and began to walk along the coastline that they saw a boy who had been playing with other boys. Khadir pulled up his head and killed him. Moses said: Have you killed an innocent person who is in no way guilty of slaying another? You have done something horrible. Thereupon he said: Did I not say to you that you will not be able to bear with me? He Moses said: This act is more grievous than the first one. He Moses further said. If I ask you about anything after this; keep not company with me; then you would no doubt find a plausible excuse for this. Then they both walked on until they reached the inhabitants of a village. They asked its inhabitants for food but they refused to entertain them as their guests. They found in it a wall which had been bent on one side and was about to fall. Khadir set it right with his own hand. Moses; said to him: It is the people to whom we came but they showed us no hospitality and they did not serve us food. If you wish you can get wages for it. He Khadir said: This is the parting of ways between mt and you. Now I wish to reveal to you the significance of that for which you could not bear with me. Allah Messenger ﷺ said. May Allah have mercy upon Moses! I wish if Moses could show patience and a fuller story of both of them could have been told. Allah Messenger ﷺ said that the first thing which Moses said was out of forgetfulness. Then there came a sparrow until it perched on the wall of the boat and took water from the ocean. Thereupon; Khadir said: My knowledge and your knowledge in comparison with the knowledge of Allah is even less than the water taken by the sparrow in its beak in comparison to the water of the ocean; and Saeed Bin jubair used to recite verses 79 and 80 of Surat Kahf in this way: There was before them a king who used to seize every boat by force which was in order; the boy was an unbeliever. | The Chapter on Moses And Prophets Moses And Alkhadir in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 46 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-20220 | Asma daughter of Abu Bakr reported that the was married to Zubair. He had neither land nor wealth nor slave nor anything else like it except a bom. She further said: I grazed his horse. provided fodder to it and looked after it; and ground dates for his camel. Besides this; I grazed the camel; made arrangements for providing it with water and patched up the leather bucket and kneaded the flour. But I was not proficient in baking the bread; so my female neighbours used to bake bread for me and they were sincere women. She further said: I was carrying on my head the stones of the dates from the land of AlZubair which Allah Messenger ﷺ had endowed him and it was at a distance of two miles from Medina. She add: As I was one day carrying the atones of dates upon my head I happened to meet Allah Messenger ﷺ along with a group of his Companions. He called me and said to the camel to sit down so that he should make cite ride behind hirn. I told my husband: I felt shy and remembered your jealousy; whereupon he said: By Allah. the carrying of the stone dates upon your bead is more severe a burden than riding with him. SahihMuslim-017-001-20364 | Abu AlSaib; the freed slaved of Hisham Bin Zuhra; said that he visited Abu Saeed Khudri in his house; and he further said: I found him saying his prayer; so I sat down waiting for him to finish his prayer when I heard a stir in the bundles of wood lying in a comer of the house. I looked towards it and found a snake. I jumped up in order to kill it; but he Abu Saeed Khudri made a gesture that I should sit down. So I sat down and as he finished the prayer he pointed to a room in the house and said: Do you see this room? I said: Yes. He said: There was a young man amongst us who had been newly wedded. We went with Allah Messenger ﷺ to participate in the Battle of Trench when a young man in the midday used to seek permission from Allah Messenger ﷺ to return to his family. One day he sought permission from him and Allah Messenger ﷺ after granting him the permission said to him: Carry your weapons with you for I fear the tribe of Quraidha may harm you. The man carried the weapons and then came back and found his wife standing between the two doors. He bent towards her smitten by jealousy and made a dash towards her with a spear in order to stab her. She said: Keep your spear away and enter the house until you see that which has made me come out. He entered and found a big snake coiled on the bedding. He darted with the spear and pierced it and then went out having fixed it in the house; but the snake quivered and attacked him and no one knew which of them died first; the snake or the young man. We came to Allah Apostle ﷺ and made a mention to him and said: Supplicate to Allah that that man may be brought back to life. Thereupon he said: Ask forgiveness for your companion and then said: There are in Medina jinns who have accepted Islam; so when you see any one of them; pronounce a warning to it for three days; and if they appear before you after that; then kill it for that is a devil. | The Chapter on Premises in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 37 in Sahih Muslim

SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-27006 | Ali said to Ibn Abad : should I not tell you about me and about Fatimah; daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She was dearest to him of his family. When she was with me; she pulled mill-stone which affected her hand; she carried water with the water-bag which affected the upper portion of her chest: She swept the house so much so that her clothes became dusty; and she cooked food by which her clothes became black; and it harmed her. We heard that some slaves had been brought to the prophet ﷺ. I said: if you go to your father and ask him for a servant; that will be sufficient for you. She came to him and found some people talking to him. She felt shy and returned. Next morning he visited us when we were in our quilt. He sat beside her head; and she took her head into the quilt out of shame from her father. He asked: What need had you with me; O family of Muhammad? She kept silence twice. I then said : I swear by Allah; I shall tell you. She pulls the mile-stone which has affected her hand; she carrys water with the water-bag which has affected the upper portion of her chest; she sweeps the house by which her clothes have become dusty; and she cooks food by which her clothes have become black. If they did so ; there would be no protection for them and no treaty with Muslims. They carried away a purse of Huyay Ibn Akhtab who was killed before the battle of Khaybar. He took away the ornaments of Banu AlNadir when they were expelled. The Prophet ﷺ asked Sayah: Where is the purse of Huyay Ibn Akhtab? MuwataMalik-017-001-34238 | Malik said; No-one should carry the Quran by its strap; or on a cushion; unless he is pure. If it were permissible to do so; it would also have been permissible to carry it in its cover. This is not because there is something on the hands of the one who carries it by which the Quran will be soiled; but because it is disapproved of for someone to carry the Quran without being pure out of respect for the Quran; and in order to honour it. Malik said; The best thing that I have heard about this is the ayat None touch it except the purified. Surat 56 ayat 79 It ranks with the ayat in Surat Abasa Surat 80 ; where Allah; the Blessed and Exalted; says; No; it is a reminder; and whoever wishes will remember it. MuwataMalik-017-001-35393 | Yahya related to me from Malik that Yahya Ibn Said said; I vowed to walk; but I was struck by a pain in the kidney; so I rode until I came to Makka. I questioned Ata Ibn Abi Rabah and others; and they said; You must sacrifice an animal. When I came to Madina I questioned the ulama there; and they ordered me to walk again from the place from which I was unable to go on. So I walked. Yahya said that he had heard Malik say; What is done among us regarding someone who makes a vow to walk to the House of Allah; and then cannot do it and so rides; is that he must return and walk from the place from which he was unable to go on. If he cannot walk; he should walk what he can and then ride; and he must sacrifice a camel; a cow; or a sheep if that is all that he can find. Malik; when asked about a man who said to another; I will carry you to the House of Allah; answered; If he intended to carry him on his shoulder; by that he meant hardship and exhaustion to himself; and he does not have to do that. Let him walk by foot and make sacrifice. If he did not intend anything; let him do hajj and ride; and take the man on hajj with him. That is because he said; I will carry you to the house of Allah. If the man refuses to do hajj with him; then there is nothing against him; and what is demanded of him is cancelled. Yahya said that Malik was asked whether it was enough for a man who had made a vow that he would walk to the House of Allah a certain large number of times; or who had forbidden himself from talking to his father and brother; if he did not fulfil a certain vow; and he had taken upon himself; by the oath; something which he was incapable of fulfilling in his lifetime; even though he were to try every year; to fulfil only one or a smaller number of vows by Allah? Malik said; The only satisfaction for that that I know is fulfilling what he has obliged himself to do. MuwataMalik-017-001-36166 | Yahya related to me from Malik from Abd arRahman Ibn AlQasim from his father that Aisha umm Almuminin said; We went out on a journey with the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and; when we came to Bayda or Dhat AlJaysh; a necklace of mine broke. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; stopped to look for it and the people stopped with him. There was no water nearby and the people were not carrying any with them; so they came to Abu Bakr AlSiddiq and said; Dont you see what Aisha has done? She has made the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and the people stop when there is no water nearby and they are not carrying any with them. Aisha continued; Abu Bakr came and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; had fallen asleep with his head on my thigh. Abu Bakr said; You have made the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and the people stop when there is no water nearby and they are not carrying any with them She continued; Abu Bakr remonstrated with me and said whatever Allah willed him to say; and began to poke me in the waist. The only thing that stopped me from moving was that the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; had his head on my thigh. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; slept until morning found him with no water. Allah; the Blessed and Exalted; sent down the ayat of tayammum and so they did tayammum. Usayd Ibn Hudayr said; This is not the first baraka from you; O family of Abu Bakr. Aisha added; We roused the camel I had been on and found the necklace under it. Malik was asked whether a man who did tayammum for one prayer should do tayammum when the time of the next prayer came or whether the first tayammum was enough. He said; No; he does tayammum for every prayer; because he has to look for water for every prayer. If he looks for it and does not find it then he does tayammum. Malik was asked whether a man who did tayammum could lead others in prayer if they were in Ablution. He said; I prefer that someone else should lead them. However; I see no harm in it if he does lead them in prayer. Yahya said that Malik said that a man who did tayammum because he could not find any water; and then stood and said the takbir and entered into the prayer; and then someone came with some water; did not stop his prayer but completed it with tayammum and did Ablution for future prayers. Yahya said that Malik said; Whoever rises for prayer and does not find water and so does what Allah has ordered him to do of tayammum has obeyed Allah. Someone who does find water is neither purer than him nor more perfect in prayer; because both have been commanded and each does as Allah has commanded. What Allah has commanded as far as Ablution is concerned is for the one who finds water; and tayammum is for the one who does not find water before he enters into the prayer. Malik said that a man who was in a state of major ritual impurity could do tayammum and read his portion of Quran and do voluntary prayers as long as he did not find any water. This applied only to circumstances in which it was allowable to pray with tayammum. | The Chapter on Peace And Ablution in HodHood Indexing, The Book of The Quran in Muwata Malik |
