The man said; No. The Prophet said; Go to your house and search for something. The man went and came back to say; By Allah; I could not find anything. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go again and search for something; even if it be an iron ring. He went again and came back saying; No; by Allah; I could not get even an iron ring. The man had only an Izar and had no Rida upper garment. He said; I will give her my Izar as Mahr. On that the Prophet ﷺ said; Your Izar? If she wears it; nothing of it will remain on you; and if you wear it nothing of it will be on her The man went Aasi de and sat down When the Prophet ﷺ saw him leaving after a while ; he called back and asked. How much Quran do you know by heart ? He said; I know such and such Suras; naming some Suras. The Prophet ﷺ said; I marry her to you for the amount of Quran you know by heart. The man said; No; by Allah; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! The Prophet ﷺ said to him ; Go to your family and see if you have something. The man went and returned; saying; No; by Allah; I have not found anything. Allah Apostle said; Go again and look for something; even if it is an iron ring. He went again and returned; saying; No; by Allah; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! I could not find even an iron ring; but this is my Izar waist sheet. He had no rida. He added; I give half of it to her. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; What will she do with your Izar? If you wear it; she will be naked; and if she wears it; you will be naked. So that man sat down for a long while and then got up to depart. When Allah Messenger ﷺ saw him going; he ordered that he be called back. When he came; the Prophet ﷺ said; How much of the Quran do you know? He said; I know such Surat and such Sura; counting them. The Prophet ﷺ said; Do you know them by heart? He replied; Yes. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go; I marry her to you for that much of the Quran which you have. The man replied; I know such Surat and such Surat and such Sura; naming the suras. The Prophet ﷺ said; Can you recite it by heart? He said; Yes. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go I let you marry her for what you know of the Quran as her Mahr. Then a man said: O Messenger of Allah! Marry her to me if you have no need of her. So he said: Do you have anything to give her as a dowry? He said: I have nothing except this Izar. So the Messenger of Allah said: If you give her your Izar then you will have no Izar; so search for something. He said: I did not find anything. He said: Search for something; even if it just an iron ring. He said: So he searched but he did not find anything. The Messenger of Allah said: Do you have any Quran memorized ? He said: Yes. This Surat and that Surat. And he named the Surat. So the Messenger of Allah said: I marry her to you for what you have memorized of the Quran. He said: Either you tell me or the All-Aware; All-Knowing will tell me. I said: O Messenger of Allah; may my father and mother be sacrificed for you; and I told him the story. He said: You were the black shape I saw in front of me? I said: Yes. She said: He gave me a shove in the chest that hurt me and said: You thought that Allah and His Messenger would be unfair to you. She said: Whatever people conceal; Allah; the Mighty and Sublime; knows it. He said: Yes. He said: Jibril came to me when you saw me leave but he did not enter upon you because you have taken off your garments. So he called me but he concealed himself from you; and I answered him but I concealed it from you. I thought that you had gone to sleep and I did not want to wake you and I was afraid that you would feel lonely. He told me to go to AlBaqi and pray for forgiveness for them. AlHajjaj Bin Muhammad contradicted him Ibn Wahb ; he said: From Ibn Juraij; from Ibn Abi Mulaikah; from Muhammad Bin Qais. A man among his Companions stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah; if you do not want to marry her; then marry me to her. He said: Do you have anything? He said: No; by Allah; I do not have anything. He said: Look; even if it is only an iron ring. He went; then he came back and said: No; by Allah; O Messenger of Allah; not even an iron ring; but this is my Izar lower garment - Sahl said: He did not have a Rida upper garment - she can have half of it. The Messenger of Allah said: What could she do with your Izar? If you wear it; she will not have any of it; and if she wears it; you will not have any of it. The man sat down for a long time; then he got up; and the Messenger of Allah saw him leaving; so he ordered that he be called back. When he came; he said: What do you know of the Quran? He said: I know Surah such-and-such; and Surah such-and-such; and listed them. He said: Can you recite them by heart? He said: Yes. He said: Then I marry you to her on the basis of what you know of the Quran.
