So they collected wood and made a fire; but when they were about to throw themselves into; it they started looking at each other; and some of them said; We followed the Prophet ﷺ to escape from the fire. How should we enter it now? So while they were in that state; the fire extinguished and their commander anger abated. Some of them said; He is sleeping. The others said; His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake. Then they said; His example is that of a man who has built a house and then offered therein a banquet and sent an inviter messenger to invite the people. So whoever accepted the invitation of the inviter; entered the house and ate of the banquet; and whoever did not accept the invitation of the inviter; did not enter the house; nor did he eat of the banquet. If one is in doubt as to the legality of something; he should ask somebody who would satisfy him; but soon will come a time when you will not find such a man. SahihMuslim-017-001-17749 | It has been narrated on the authority of All who said: The Mersenger of Allah ﷺ sent an expeditionand appointed over the Mujahids a man from the Ansar. While making the appointment ; he ordered that his work should be listened to and obeyed. They made him angry in a matter. He said: Collect for me dry wood. They collected it for him. Then he said: Kindle a fire. They kindled the fire. Then he said: Didnt the Messenger of Allah ﷺ order you to listen to me and obey my orders ? They said: Yes. He said: Enter the fire. The narrator says: At this ; they began to look at one another and said: We fled from the fire to find refuge with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and now you order us to enter it. They stood quiet until his anger cooled down and the fire went out. When they returned; they related the incident to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: If they had entered it; they would not have come out. Obedience to the commander is obligatory only in what is good. | Chapter on 8 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-17759 | It has been narrated on the authority of Abdulrahman Bin Abd Rabb AlKaba who said: I entered the Masjid when Abdullah Bin Amr Bin AlAs was sitting in the shade of the Kaba and the people had gathered around him. I betook myself to them and sat near him. Now Abdullah said: I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey. We halted at a place. Some of us began to set right their tents; others began to compete with one another in shooting; and others began to graze their beasts; when an announcer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ announced that the people should gather together for prayer; so we gathered around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: It was the duty of every Prophet that has gone before me to guide his followers to what he knew was good for them and warn them against what he knew was bad for them; but this Umma of yours has its days of peace and security in the beginning of its career; and in the last phase of its existence it will be afflicted with trials and with things disagreeable to you. In this phase of the Umma ; there will be tremendous trials one after the other; each making the previous one dwindle into insignificance. When they would be afflicted with a trial; the believer would say: This is going to bring about my destruction. When at the trial is over; they would be afflicted with another trial; and the believer would say: This surely is going to be my end. Whoever wishes to be delivered from the fire and enter the garden should die with faith in Allah and the Last Day and should treat the people as he wishes to be treated by them. He who swears allegiance to a Caliph should give him the piedge of his hand and the sincerity of his heart i. e. submit to him both outwardly as well as inwardly. He should obey him to the best of his capacity. It another man comes forward as a claimant to Caliphate ; disputing his authority; they the Muslims should behead the latter. The narrator says: I came close to him Abdullah Bin Amr Bin AlAs and said to him: Can you say on oath that you heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? He pointed with his hands to his ears and his heart and said: My ears heard it and my mind retained it. I said to him: This cousin of yours; Muawiya; orders us to unjustly consume our wealth among ourselves and to kill one another; while Allah says: O ye who believe; do not consume your wealth among yourselves unjustly; unless it be trade based on mutual agreement; and do not kill yourselves. Verily; God is Merciful to you iv. 29. The narrator says that hearing this Abdullah Bin Amr Bin AlAs kept quiet for a while and then said: Obey him in so far as he is obedient to God; and diqobey him in matters involving disobedience to God. | The Chapter on Obligations Of Wealth in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 10 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18618 | It is reported on the authority of Abu Huraira that when it was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ : To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and whether you disclose that which is in your mind or conceal it; Allah will call you to account according to it. Then He forgives whom He pleases and chastises whom He Pleases; and Allah is over everything Potent ii. 284. the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ felt it hard and severe and they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and sat down on their knees and said: Messenger of Allah; we were assigned some duties which were within our power to perform; such as prayer; fasting; struggling in the cause of Allah ; charity. Then this the above-mentioned verse was revealed unto you and it is beyond our power to live up to it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do you intend to say what the people of two books Jews and Christians said before you: We hear and disobey? You should rather say: We hear and we obey; we seek Thy forgiveness; our Lord! and unto Thee is the return. And they said: We hear and we obey; we seek Thy forgiveness; Our Lord! and unto Thee is the return. When the people recited it and it smoothly flowed on their tongues; then Allah revealed immediately afterwards: The Apostle believes in that which is sent down unto him from his Lord; and so do the believers. Each one believes in Allah and His Angels and His Books and His Apostles; saying: We differentiate not between any of His Apostles and they say: We hearken and we obey: we seek Thy forgiveness; our Lord! and unto Thee is the return ii. 285. When they did that; Allah abrogated this verse and the Great; Majestic Allah revealed: Allah burdens not a soul beyond its capacity. It gets every good that it earns and it suffers every ill that it earns. Our Lord; punish us not if we forget or make a mistake. The Prophet said: Yes; our Lord! do not lay on us a burden as Thou didst lay on those before us. The Prophet said: Yes; our Lord; impose not on us burdens which we have not the strength to bear The Prophet said: Yes; and pardon us and grant us protection! and have mercy on us. Thou art our Patron; so grant us victory over the disbelieving people ii. 286. SunanAlTermithi-017-001-9719 | Abu Huraira narrated: The people of AlSuffah were the guests of the people of Islam;they had nothing of people nor wealth to rely upon. And By Allah; the One Whom there is none worthy of worship besides Him I would lay on the ground on my liver side due to hunger; And I would fasten a stone to my stomach out of hunger. One day I sat by the way that they the Companions use to come out through. Abu Bakr passed and so I asked him about an Ayah from Allah Book; not asking him except that he might tell me to follow him for something to eat. But he passed on without doing so. Then Umar passed; so I asked him about an Ayah from Allah Book; not asking him except that he might tell me to follow him. But he passed on without doing so. Then Ab AlQasim s.a.w passed; and he smiled when he saw me; and said: Abu Huraira? I said: I am here O Messenger of Allah! He said: Come along. He continued and I followed him; he entered his house; so I sought permission to enter; and he permitted me. He found a bowl of milk and said: Where did this milk come from? It was said: It was a gift to us from so and so. So the Messenger of Allah s.a.w said: O Abu Huraira I said: I am here O Messenger of Allah! He said: Go to the people of AlSuffah to invite them. - Now; they were the guests of the people of Islam; they had nothing of people nor wealth to rely upon. Whenever some charity was brought to him; he would send it to them without using any of it. And when a gift was given to him s.a.w ; he would send for them to participate and share with him in it. I became upset about that; and I said to myself : What good will this bowl be among the people of AlSuffah and I am the one bringing it to them? Then he ordered me to circulate it among them So I wondered what of it would reach me from it; and I hoped that I would get from it what would satisfy me. But I would certainly not neglect to obey Allah and obey His Messenger; so I went to them and invited them. When they entered upon him they sat down. He said: Abu Huraira; take the bowl and give it to them. So I gave it to a man who drank his fill; then he gave it to another one; until it ended up with the Messenger of Allah s.a.w ; and all of the people had drank their fill. The Messenger of Allah s.a.w took the bowl; put it on his hand;then raised his head. He smiled and said: Abu Huraira; drink. So I drank; then he said: Drink. I kept drinking and he kept on saying; Drink. Then I said: By the One Who sent you with the truth! I have no more space for it. So he took the bowl and praised Allah; mentioned His Name and drank.
