SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1618 | Narrated Aisha: The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah Messenger ﷺ was in the form of good righteous true dreams in his sleep. He never had a dream but that it came true like bright day light. He used to go in seclusion the cave of Hira where he used to worship Allah Alone continuously for many days nights. He used to take with him the journey food for that stay and then come back to his wife Khadija to take his food like-wise again for another period to stay; till suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him in it and asked him to read. The Prophet ﷺ replied; I do not know how to read. The Prophet ﷺ added ; The angel caught me forcefully and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it anymore. He then released me and again asked me to read; and I replied; I do not know how to read; whereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it anymore. He then released me and asked me again to read; but again I replied; I do not know how to read or; what shall I read?. Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me and then released me and said; Read: In the Name of your Lord; Who has created all that exists. Has created man from a clot. Read and Your Lord is Most Generous...up to.......that which he knew not. 96.15 Then Allah Messenger ﷺ returned with the Inspiration; his neck muscles twitching with terror till he entered upon Khadija and said; Cover me! Cover me! They covered him till his fear was over and then he said; O Khadija; what is wrong with me? Then he told her everything that had happened and said; I fear that something may happen to me. Khadija said; Never! But have the glad tidings; for by Allah; Allah will never disgrace you as you keep good reactions with your Kith and kin; speak the truth; help the poor and the destitute; serve your guest generously and assist the deserving; calamityafflicted ones. Khadija then accompanied him to her cousin Waraqa Bin Nawfal Bin Asad Bin Abdul Uzza Bin Qusai. Waraqa was the son of her paternal uncle; i.e.; her father brother; who during the Pre-Islamic Period became a Christian and used to write the Arabic writing and used to write of the Gospels in Arabic as much as Allah wished him to write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight. Khadija said to him; O my cousin! Listen to the story of your nephew. Waraqa asked; O my nephew! What have you seen? The Prophet ﷺ described whatever he had seen. Waraqa said; This is the same Namus i.e.; Gabriel; the Angel who keeps the secrets whom Allah had sent to Moses. I wish I were young and could live up to the time when your people would turn you out. Allah Messenger ﷺ asked; Will they turn me out? Waraqa replied in the affirmative and said: Never did a man come with something similar to what you have brought but was treated with hostility. If I should remain alive till the day when you will be turned out then I would support you strongly. But after a few days Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was also paused for a while and the Prophet ﷺ became so sad as we have heard that he intended several times to throw himself from the tops of high mountains and every time he went up the top of a mountain in order to throw himself down; Gabriel would appear before him and say; O Muhammad! You are indeed Allah Messenger ﷺ in truth whereupon his heart would become quiet and he would calm down and would return home. And whenever the period of the coming of the inspiration used to become long; he would do as before; but when he used to reach the top of a mountain; Gabriel would appear before him and say to him what he had said before. Ibn Abbas said regarding the meaning of: He it is that Cleaves the daybreak from the darkness 6.96 that AlAsbah. means the light of the sun during the day and the light of the moon at night. | The Chapter on Revelation And Angles in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Commencement of the Divine Revelation to Allahs Messenger was in the form of good dreams in Sahih AlBukhari

The Prophet ﷺ passed by a gathering in which there were Muslims and pagan idolators and Jews; and among them there was Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul; and there was Abdullah Bin Rawaha too. When a cloud of dust raised by the animal covered that gathering; Abdullah Bin Ubai covered his nose with his Rida sheet and said to the Prophet ; Dont cover us with dust. The Prophet ﷺ greeted them and then stopped; dismounted and invited them to Allah i.e.; to embrace Islam and also recited to them the Holy Quran. Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul said; O man! There is nothing better than what you say; if what you say is the truth. So do not trouble us in our gatherings. Go back to your mount or house; and if anyone of us comes to you; tell your tales to him. On that Abdullah Bin Rawaha said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Come to us and bring it what you want to say in our gatherings; for we love that. So the Muslims; the pagans and the Jews started quarreling till they were about to fight and clash with one another. He meant Abdullah Bin Ubai. He said so-and-so. Saad Bin Ubada said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Excuse and forgive him; for by Allah; Allah has given you what He has given you. The people of this town decided to crown him as their chief and make him their king. But when Allah prevented that with the Truth which He had given you; it choked him; and that was what made him behave in the way you saw him behaving. Excuse and forgive him for; by Him Who revealed to you the Book; Allah sent the Truth which was revealed to you at the time when the people of this town had decided to crown him Abdullah Bin Ubai as their ruler. So when Allah had prevented that with the Truth He had given you; he was choked by that; and that caused him to behave in such an impolite manner which you had noticed. So Allah Messenger ﷺ excused him. It was the custom of Allah Messenger ﷺ and his companions to excuse the pagans and the people of the scripture Christians and Jews as Allah ordered them; and they used to be patient when annoyed by them. Allah said: You shall certainly hear much that will grieve you from those who received the Scripture before you.....and from the pagans 3.186 He also said: Many of the people of the scripture wish that if they could turn you away as disbelievers after you have believed..... 2.109 So Allah Messenger ﷺ used to apply what Allah had ordered him by excusing them till he was allowed to fight against them. When Allah Messenger ﷺ had fought the battle of Badr and Allah killed whomever He killed among the chiefs of the infidels and the nobles of Quraish; and Allah Messenger ﷺ and his companions had returned with victory and booty; bringing with them some of the chiefs of the infidels and the nobles of the Quraish as captives. Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul and the pagan idolators who were with him; said; This matter Islam has now brought out its face triumphed ; so give Allah Messenger ﷺ the pledge of allegiance for embracing Islam.. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3176 | Narrated Ibn Juraij: Ibn Shihab informed me of Lian and the tradition related to it; referring to the narration of Sahl Bin Sad; the brother of Bani Saidi He said; An Ansari man came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; O Allah Apostle! If a man saw another man with his wife; should he kill him; or what should he do? So Allah revealed concerning his affair what is mentioned in the Holy Quran about the affair of those involved in a case of Lian. The Prophet ﷺ said; Allah has given His verdict regarding you and your wife. So they carried out Lian in the Masjid while I was present there. When they had finished; the man said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! If I should now keep her with me as a wife then I have told a lie about her. Then he divorced her thrice before Allah Messenger ﷺ ordered him; when they had finished the Lian process. So he divorced her in front of the Prophet ﷺ. Ibn Shihab added; After their case; it became a tradition that a couple involved in a case of Lian should be separated by divorce. That lady was pregnant then; and later on her son was called by his mother name. The tradition concerning their inheritance was that she would be his heir and he would inherit of her property the share Allah had prescribed for him. Ibn Shihab said that Sahl Bin Saad AsSaidi said that the Prophet ﷺ said in the above narration ; If that lady delivers a small red child like a lizard; then the lady has spoken the truth and the man was a liar; but if she delivers a child with black eyes and huge lips; then her husband has spoken the truth. Then she delivered it in the shape one would dislike as it proved her guilty. | The Chapter on Wives And Relationship Lian in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on To carry out Lian in a Mosque in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3379 | Narrated Ubaidullah Bin Adi Bin AlKhiyar: AlMiswar Bin Makhrama and Abdulrahman Bin AlAswad Bin Abu Yaghuth said to me ; What forbids you to talk to Uthman about his brother AlWalid because people have talked much about him? So I went to Uthman and when he went out for prayer I said to him ; I have something to say to you and it is a piece of advice for you Uthman said; O man; from you. Umar said: I see that he said; I seek Refuge with Allah from you. So I left him and went to them. Then the messenger of Uthman came and I went to him i.e. Uthman ; Uthman asked; What is your advice? I replied; Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth; and revealed the Divine Book i.e. Quran to him; and you were amongst those who followed Allah and His Apostle; and you participated in the two migrations to Ethiopia and to Medina and enjoyed the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and saw his way. No doubt; the people are talking much about AlWalid. Uthman said; Did you receive your knowledge directly from Allah Messenger ﷺ ? I said; No; but his knowledge did reach me and it reached even to a virgin in her seclusion. Uthman said; And then Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and I was amongst those who followed Allah and His Apostle and I believed in what ever he i.e. the Prophet was sent with; and participated in two migrations; as you have said; and I enjoyed the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and gave the pledge of allegiance him. By Allah! I never disobeyed him; nor did I cheat him till Allah took him unto Him. Then I treated Abu Bakr and then Umar similarly and then I was made Caliph. So; dont I have rights similar to theirs? I said; Yes. He said; Then what are these talks reaching me from you people? Now; concerning what you mentioned about the question of AlWalid; Allah willing; I shall deal with him according to what is right. Then he called Ali and ordered him to flog him; and Ali flogged him i.e. AlWalid eighty lashes. | The Chapter on Communication Talking In Prayers in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The virtues of Uthman Bin Affan in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3409 | Narrated AlMiswar Bin Makhrama: Ali demanded the hand of the daughter of Abu Jahl. Fatima heard of this and went to Allah Messenger ﷺ saying; Your people think that you do not become angry for the sake of your daughters as Ali is now going to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl. On that Allah Messenger ﷺ got up and after his recitation of Tashah-hud. I heard him saying; Then after! I married one of my daughters to Abu AlAs Bin AlRabi the husband of Zainab; the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ before Islam and he proved truthful in whatever he said to me. No doubt; Fatima is a part of me; I hate to see her being troubled. By Allah; the daughter of Allah Messenger ﷺ and the daughter of Allah Enemy cannot be the wives of one man. So Ali gave up that engagement. AlMiswar further said: I heard the Prophet ﷺ talking and he mentioned a son-in-law of his belonging to the tribe of Bani Abd Shams. He highly praised him concerning that relationship and said whenever he spoke to me; he spoke the truth; and whenever he promised me; he fulfilled his promise. | The Chapter on Truth And Hypocrisy And Martyrs in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Narrations about the sonsinlaw of the Prophet in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3774 | Narrated Anas Bin Malik: Allah Messenger ﷺ arrived at Medina with Abu Bakr; riding behind him on the same camel. Abu Bakr was an elderly man known to the people; while Allah Messenger ﷺ was a youth that was unknown. Thus; if a man met Abu Bakr; he would say; O Abu Bakr! Who is this man in front of you? Abu Bakr would say; This man shows me the Way; One would think that Abu Bakr meant the road; while in fact; Abu Bakr meant the way of virtue and good. Then Abu Bakr looked behind and saw a horse-rider pursuing them. He said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! This is a horse-rider pursuing us. The Prophet ﷺ looked behind and said; O Allah! Cause him to fall down. So the horse threw him down and got up neighing. After that the rider; Suraqa said; O Allah Prophet! Order me whatever you want. The Prophet said; Stay where you are and do not allow anybody to reach us. So; in the first part of the day Suraqa was an enemy of Allah Prophet and in the last part of it; he was a protector. Then Allah Apostle alighted by the side of the AlHarra and sent a message to the Ansar; and they came to Allah Prophet and Abu Bakr; and having greeted them; they said; Ride your camels safe and obeyed. Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr rode and the Ansar; carrying their arms; surrounded them. The news that Allah Prophet had come circulated in Medina. The people came out and were eagerly looking and saying Allah Prophet has come! Allah Prophet has come! So the Prophet ﷺ went on till he alighted near the house of Abu Ayoub. While the Prophet ﷺ was speaking with the family members of Abu Ayoub ; Abdullah Bin Salam heard the news of his arrival while he himself was picking the dates for his family from his family garden. He hurried to the Prophet ﷺ carrying the dates which he had collected for his family from the garden. He listened to Allah Prophet and then went home. Then Allah Prophet said; Which is the nearest of the houses of our kith and kin? Abu Ayoub replied; Mine; O Allah Prophet! This is my house and this is my gate. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go and prepare a place for our midday rest. Abu Ayoub said; Get up both of you with Allah Blessings. So when Allah Prophet went into the house; Abdullah Bin Salam came and said I testify that you i.e. Muhammad are Apostle of Allah and that you have come with the Truth. The Jews know well that I am their chief and the son of their chief and the most learned amongst them and the son of the most learned amongst them. So send for them i.e. Jews and ask them about me before they know that I have embraced Islam; for if they know that they will say about me things which are not correct. So Allah Messenger ﷺ sent for them; and they came and entered. Allah Messenger ﷺ said to them; O the group of Jews! Woe to you: be afraid of Allah. By Allah except Whom none has the right to be worshipped; you people know for certain; that I am Apostle of Allah and that I have come to you with the Truth; so embrace Islam. The Jews replied; We do not know this. So they said this to the Prophet and he repeated it thrice. Then he said; What sort of a man is Abdullah Bin Salam amongst you? They said; He is our chief and the son of our chief and the most learned man; and the son of the most learned amongst us. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; O Ibn Salam! Come out to them. He came out and said; O the group of Jews! Be afraid of Allah except Whom none has the right to be worshipped. You know for certain that he is Apostle of Allah and that he has brought a True Religion! They said; You tell a lie. The Prophet ﷺ ordered; Let all the Jews who have been here; be assembled before me. The Jews were collected and the Prophet ﷺ said to them ; I am going to ask you a question. Will you tell the truth? They said; Yes. The Prophet ﷺ asked; Who is your father? They replied; So-and-so. He said; You have told a lie; your father is so-and-so. They said; You are right. He said; Will you now tell me the truth; if I ask you about something? They replied; Yes; O Abu AlQasim; and if we should tell a lie; you can realize our lie as you have done regarding our father. On that he asked; Who are the people of the Hell Fire? They said; We shall remain in the Hell Fire for a short period; and after that you will replace us. The Prophet ﷺ said; You may be cursed and humiliated in it! By Allah; we shall never replace you in it. Then he asked; Will you now tell me the truth if I ask you a question? They said; Yes; O Abu AlQasim. He asked; Have you poisoned this sheep? They said; Yes. He asked; What made you do so? SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4041 | Narrated Abu Qatada: We set out in the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ on the day of the battle of Hunain. When we faced the enemy; the Muslims retreated and I saw a pagan throwing himself over a Muslim. I turned around and came upon him from behind and hit him on the shoulder with the sword He i.e. the pagan came towards me and seized me so violently that I felt as if it were death itself; but death overtook him and he released me. I followed Umar Bin AlKhattab and asked him ; What is wrong with the people fleeing ? He replied; This is the Will of Allah; After the people returned; the Prophet ﷺ sat and said; Anyone who has killed an enemy and has a proof of that; will posses his spoils. I got up and said; Who will be a witness for me? and then sat down. The Prophet ﷺ again said; Anyone who has killed an enemy and has proof of that; will possess his spoils. I again got up and said; Who will be a witness for me? and sat down. Then the Prophet ﷺ said the same for the third time. I again got up; and Allah Messenger ﷺ said; O Abu Qatada! What is your story? Then I narrated the whole story to him. A man got up and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He is speaking the truth; and the spoils of the killed man are with me. So please compensate him on my behalf. On that Abu Bakr AlSiddiq said; No; by Allah; he i.e. Allah Messenger ﷺ will not agree to give you the spoils gained by one of Allah Lions who fights on the behalf of Allah and His Apostle. The Prophet ﷺ said; Abu Bakr has spoken the truth. So; Allah Messenger ﷺ gave the spoils to me. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-5086 | Narrated Abu Huraira: The people say that Abu Huraira narrates too many narrations. In fact Allah knows whether I say the truth or not. They also ask; Why do the emigrants and the Ansar not narrate as he does? In fact; my emigrant brethren were busy trading in the markets; and my Ansar brethren were busy with their properties. I was a poor man keeping the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and was satisfied with what filled my stomach. So; I used to be present while they i.e. the emigrants and the Ansar were absent; and I used to remember while they forgot the Hadith. One day the Prophet ﷺ said; Whoever spreads his sheet till I finish this statement of mine and then gathers it on his chest; will never forget anything of my statement. So; I spread my covering sheet which was the only garment I had; till the Prophet ﷺ finished his statement and then I gathered it over my chest. By Him Who had sent him i.e. Allah Apostle with the truth; since then I did not forget even a single word of that statement of his; until this day of mine. By Allah; but for two verses in Allah Book; I would never have related any narration from the Prophet. These two verses are : Verily! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6612 | Narrated Ali: Allah Messenger ﷺ sent me; AlZubair and AlMiqdad saying; Proceed till you reach Rawdat Khakh where there is a lady carrying a letter; and take that letter from her. So we proceeded on our way with our horses galloping till we reached the Rawda; and there we found the lady and said to her; Take out the letter. She said; I have no letter. We said; Take out the letter; or else we will take off your clothes. So she took it out of her braid; and we brought the letter to Allah Messenger ﷺ. The letter was addressed from Hatib; Bin Abi Baltaa to some pagans of Mecca; telling them about what Allah Apostle intended to do. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; O Hatib! What is this? Hatib replied; O Allah Apostle! Do not make a hasty decision about me. I was a person not belonging to Quraish but I was an ally to them from outside and had no blood relation with them; and all the Emigrants who were with you; have got their kinsmen in Mecca who can protect their families and properties. So I liked to do them a favor so that they might protect my relatives as I have no blood relation with them. I did not do this to renegade from my religion i.e. Islam nor did I do it to choose Heathenism after Islam. Allah Messenger ﷺ said to his companions. As regards him; he i.e. Hatib has told you the truth. Umar said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Allow me to chop off the head of this hypocrite! The Prophet ﷺ said; He i.e. Hatib has witnessed the Badr battle i.e. fought in it and what could tell you; perhaps Allah looked at those who witnessed Badr and said; O the people of Badr i.e. Badr Muslim warriors ; do what you like; for I have forgiven you. SahihMuslim-017-001-17724 | It has been reported on the authority of Abu Humaid AlSaidi who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed a man from the Azd tribe. called Ibn Al; Utbiya; in charge of Sadaqat to be received from Banu Sulaim. When he came back ; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him to render his account. He said: This wealth is for you i. e. for the public treasury and this is a gift presented to me. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You should have remained in the house of your father and your mother; until your gift came to you if you spoke the truth; then he addressed us. He praised God and extolled Him; and afterwards said: I appoint a man from you to a responsible post sharing with the authority that God has entrusted to me; and he comes to me saying: This wealth is for you i. e. for the public treasury and this is a gift presented to me. Why did he not remain in the house of his father and his mother and his gift came to him; if he was truthful? By God; any one of you will not take anything from the public funds without any justification; but will meet his Lord carrying it on himself on the Day of judgment. I will recognise any one of you meeting Allah and carrying a growling camel; or a cow bellowing or a goat bleating. Then he raised his hands so high that whiteness of his armpits could be seen. Then he said: O my Lord; I have conveyed Thy Commandments. SahihMuslim-017-001-18031 | Abu Qatada reported: We accompanied the Messenger of Allah my ﷺ on an expedition in the year of the Battle of Hunain. When we encountered the enemy; some of the Muslims turned back in fear. I saw that a man from the polytheists overpowered one of the Muslims. I turned round and attacked him from behind giving a blow between his neck and shoulder. He turned towards me and grappled with me in such a way that I began to see death staring me in the face. Then death overtook him and left me alone. I joined Umar Bin AlKhattab who was saying: What has happened to the people that they are retreating ? I said: It is the Decree of Allah. Then the people returned. The battle ended in a victory for the Muslims and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down to distribute the spoils of war. He said: One who has killed an enemy and can bring evidence to prove it will get his belongings. So I stood up and said: Who will give evidence for me? Then I sat down. Then he the Holy Prophet said like this. I stood up again and said: Who will bear witness for me? He the Holy Prophet made the same observation the third time; and I stood up once again. Now the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What has happened to you; O Abu Qatada? Then I related the whole story; to him. At this; one of the people said: He has told the truth. Messenger of Allah 1 The belongings of the enemy killed by him are with me. Persuade him to forgo his right in my favour. Objecting to this proposal Abu Bakr said: BY Allah; this will not happen. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ will not like to deprive one of the lions from among the lions of Allah who fight in the cause of Allah and His Messenger and give thee his share of the booty. So the Messenger of Allah may peace he upon him said: He Abu Bakr has told the truth; and so give the belongings to him Abu Qatada. So he gave them to me. I sold the armour which was a part of my share of the booty and bought with the sale proceeds a garden in the street of Banu Salama. This was the first property I acquired after embracing Islam. In a version of the hadith narrated by Laith; the words uttered by Abu Bakr are: No; never! He will not give it to a fox from the Quraish leaving Aasi de a lion from the lions of Allah among.... SahihMuslim-017-001-18097 | It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Wail who said: Sahal Bin Hunaif stood up on the Day of Siffin and said: O ye people; blame yourselves for want of discretion ; we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Day of Hudaibiya. If we had thought it fit to fight; we could fight. This was in the truce between the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the polytheists. Umar Bin AlKhattab came; approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah; arent we fighting for truth and they for falsehood? He replied: By all means. He asked: Are not those killed from our side in Paradise and those killed. from their side in the Fire? He replied: Yes. He said: Then why should we put a blot upon our religion and return; while Allah has not decided the issue between them and ourselves? He said: Son of AlKhattab; I am the Messenger of Allah. Allah will never ruin me. The narrator said : Umar went away; but he could not contain himself with rage. So he approached Abu Bakr and said: Abu Bakr; arent we fighting for truth and they for falsehood? He replied: Yes. He asked: Arent those killed from our side in Paradise and those killed from their side in the Fire? He replied: Why not? He then said: Why should we then disgrace our religion and return while God has not yet decided the issue between them and ourselves? Abu Bakr said: Son of AlKhattab; verily; he is the Messenger of Allah; and Allah will never ruin him. The narrator continued : At this a Surat of the Quran giving glad tidings of the victory was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He sent for Umar and made him read it. SahihMuslim-017-001-18123 | It has been narrated on the authority of Usama Bin Zaid that the Prophet ﷺ rode a donkey. It had on it a saddle under which was a mattress made at Fadak a place near Medina. Behind him he seated Usama. He was going to the street of Banu Harith AlKhazraj to inquire after the health of Saad Bin Ubada This happened before the Battle of Badr. He proceeded until he passed by a mixed company of people in which were Muslims; polytheists; idol worshippers and the Jews and among them were Abdullah Bin Ubay and Abdullah Bin Rawaha. When the dust raised by the hoofs of the animal spread over the company; Abdullah Bin Ubay covered his nose with his mantle and said: Do not scatter the dust over us Not minding this remark ; the Prophet ﷺ greeted them; stopped; got down from his animal; invited them to Allah; and recited to them the Quran. Abdullah Bin Ubay said: O man; if what you say is the truth; the best thing for you would be not to bother us with it in our assemblies. Get back to your place. Whoso comes to you from us; tell him all this. Abdullah Bin Rawaha said: Come to us in our gatherings; for we love to hear it. The narrator says: At this ; the Muslims; the polytheists and the Jews began to rebuke one another until they were determined to come to blows. The Prophet ﷺ continued to pacify them. When they were pacified ; he rode his animal and came to Saad Bin Ubida. He said: Sad; havent you heard what Abu Hubab meaning Abdullah Bin Ubay has said? He has said so and so. Saad said: Messenger of Allah; forgive and pardon. God has granted you a sublime position; but so far as he is concerned the people of this settlement had-decided to make him their king by making him wear a crown and a turban in token thereof ; but God has circumvented this by the truth He has granted you. This has made him jealous and his jealousy must have prompted the behaviour that you have witnessed. SahihMuslim-017-001-18383 | It is narrated on the authority of Yahya Bin Yamur that the first man who discussed qadr Divine Decree in Basra was Mabad AlJuhani. I along with Humaid Bin Abdulrahman Himyari set out for pilgrimage or for Umrah and said: Should it so happen that we come into contact with one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ we shall ask him about what is talked about taqdir Divine Decree. Accidentally we came across Abdullah Ibn Umar Ibn AlKhattab; while he was entering the Masjid. My companion and I surrounded him. One of us stood on his right and the other stood on his left. I expected that my companion would authorize me to speak. I therefore said: Abu Abdulrahman There have appeared some people in our land who recite the Quran and pursue knowledge. And then after talking about their affairs; added: They such people claim that there is no such thing as Divine Decree and events are not predestined. He Abdullah Ibn Umar said: When you happen to meet such people tell them that I have nothing to do with them and they have nothing to do with me. And verily they are in no way responsible for my belief. Abdullah Ibn Umar swore by Him the Lord and said : If any one of them who does not believe in the Divine Decree had with him gold equal to the bulk of the mountain Uhud and spent it in the way of Allah ; Allah would not accept it unless he affirmed his faith in Divine Decree. He further said: My father; Umar Ibn AlKhattab; told me: One day we were sitting in the company of Allah Apostle ﷺ when there appeared before us a man dressed in pure white clothes; his hair extraordinarily black. There were no signs of travel on him. None amongst us recognized him. At last he sat with the Apostle ﷺ He knelt before him placed his palms on his thighs and said: Muhammad; inform me about AlIslam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: AlIslam implies that you testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah; and you establish prayer; pay Zakat; observe the fast of Ramadan; and perform pilgrimage to the House if you are solvent enough to bear the expense of the journey. He the inquirer said: You have told the truth. He Umar Ibn AlKhattab said: It amazed us that he would put the question and then he would himself verify the truth. He the inquirer said: Inform me about Iman faith. He the Holy Prophet replied: That you affirm your faith in Allah; in His angels; in His Books; in His Apostles; in the Day of Judgment; and you affirm your faith in the Divine Decree about good and evil. He the inquirer said: You have told the truth. He the inquirer again said: Inform me about AlIhsan performance of good deeds. He the Holy Prophet said: That you worship Allah as if you are seeing Him; for though you dont see Him; He; verily; sees you. He the enquirer again said: Inform me about the hour of the Doom. He the Holy Prophet remarked: One who is asked knows no more than the one who is inquiring about it. He the inquirer said: Tell me some of its indications. He the Holy Prophet said: That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress and master; that you will find barefooted; destitute goat-herds vying with one another in the construction of magnificent buildings. He the narrator; Umar Ibn AlKhattab said: Then he the inquirer went on his way but I stayed with him the Holy Prophet for a long while. He then; said to me: Umar; do you know who this inquirer was? I replied: Allah and His Apostle knows best. He the Holy Prophet remarked: He was Gabriel the angel. SahihMuslim-017-001-18389 | It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Ask me about matters pertaining to religion ; but they the Companions of the Holy Prophet were too much overawed out of profound respect for him to ask him anything. In the meanwhile a man came there; and sat near his knees and said: Messenger of Allah; what Allslam is? -to which he the Holy Prophet replied: You must not associate anything with Allah; and establish prayer; pay the poor-rate Zakat and observe the fasts of Ramadan. He said: You have told the truth. He again said: Messenger of Allah; what AlIman the faith is? He the Holy Prophet said: That you affirm your faith in Allah; His angels; His Books; His meeting; His Apostles; and that you believe in Resurrection and that you believe in Qadr Divine Decree in all its entirety; He the inquirer said: You have told the truth. He again said: Messenger of Allah; what AlIhsan is? Upon this he the Holy Prophet said: AlIhsan implies that you fear Allah as if you are seeing Him; and though you see Him not; verily He is seeing you. He the inquirer said: You have told the truth. He the inquirer said: When there would be the hour of Doom ? Upon this he the HolyProphet said: The one who is being asked about it is no better informed than the inquirer himself. I; however; narrate some of its signs and these are : when you see a slave woman giving birth to her master - that is one of the signs of Doom ; when you see barefooted; naked; deaf and dumb ignorant and foolish persons as the rulers of the earth - that is one of the signs of the Doom. And when you see the shepherds of black camels exult in buildings - that is one of the signs of Doom. The Doom is one of the five things wrapped in the unseen. No one knows them except Allah. Then the Holy Prophet recited the folowing verse : Verily Allah! with Him alone is the knowledge of the hour and He it is Who sends down the rain and knows that which is in the wombs and no person knows whatsoever he shall earn on morrow and a person knows not in whatsoever land he shall die. Verily Allah is Knowing; Aware. He the narrator; Abu Huraira said: Then the person stood up an made his way. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Bring him back to me. He was searched for; but they the Companions of the Holy Prophet could not find him. SahihMuslim-017-001-18392 | It is reported on the authority of Anas Bin Malik that he said: We were forbidden that we should ask anything without the genuine need from the Holy Prophet. It; therefore; pleased us that an intelligent person from the dwellers of the desert should come and asked him the Holy Prophet and we should listen to it. A man from the dwellers of the desert came to the Holy Prophet and said: Muhammad; your messenger came to us and told us your assertion that verily Allah had sent you as a prophet. He the Holy Prophet remarked: He told the truth. He the bedouin said: Who created the heaven? He the Holy Prophet replied: Allah. He the bedouin again said: Who created the earth? He the Holy Prophet replied: Allah. He the bedouin again said: Who raised these mountains and who created in them whatever is created there? He the Holy Prophet replied: Allah. Upon this he the bedouin remarked: By Him Who created the heaven and created the earth and raised mountains thereupon; has Allah in fact sent you? He the Holy Prophet said: Yes. He the bedouin said: Your messenger also told us that five prayers had been made obligatory for us during the day and the night. He the Holy Prophet remarked: He told you the truth. He the bedouin said: By Him Who sent you; is it Allah Who ordered you about this i. e. prayers ? He the Holy Prophet said: Yes. He the bedouin said: Your messenger told us that Zakat had been made obligatory in our riches. He the Holy Prophet said. He has told the truth. He the bedouin said: By Him Who sent you as a prophet ; is it Allah Who ordered you about it Zakat ? He the Holy Prophet said: Yes. He the bedouin said: Your messenger told us that it had been made obligatory for us to fast every year during the month of Ramadan. He the Holy Prophet said: He has told the truth. He the bedouin said: By Him Who sent you as a prophet ; is it Allah Who ordered you about it the fasts of Ramadan ? He the Holy Prophet said: Yes. He the bedouin said: Your messenger also told us that pilgrimage Hajj to the House of Kabah had been made obligatory for him who is able to undertake the journey to it. He the Holy Prophet said: Yes. The narrator said that he the bedouin set off at the conclusion of this answer; but at the time of his departure remarked: By Him Who sent you with the Truth; I would neither make any addition to them nor would I diminish anything out of them. Upon this the Prophet remarked: If he were true to what he said he must enter Paradise. | The Chapter on Journeys And Travel And Bedouins in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 3 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19216 | Abu Saeed reported that Allah Messenger ﷺ met him Ibn Sayad and so did Abu Bakr and Umar on some of the roads of Medina. Allah Messenger ﷺ said: Do you bear testimony to the fact that I am the Messenger of Allah? Thereupon he said: Do you bear testimony to the fact that I am the messenger of Allah? Thereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: I affirm my faith in Allah and in His Angels and in His Books; and what do you see? He said: I see the throne over water. Whereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: You see the throne of Iblis upon the water; and what else do you see? He said: I see two truthfuls and a liar or two liars and one truthful. SahihMuslim-017-001-19381 | Ibn Shihab reported that Allah Messenger ﷺ made an expedition to Tabuk and he the Holy Prophet had in his mind the idea of threatening the Christians of Arabia in Syria and those of Rome. Ibn Shihab further reported that Abdulrahman Bin Abdullah Bin Kaab informed him that Abdullah Bin Kaab who served as the guide of Kaab Bin Malik as he became blind that he heard Kaab Bin Malik narrate the story of his remaining behind Allah Messenger ﷺ from the Battle of Tabuk. Kaab Bin Malik said: I never remained behind Allah Messenger ﷺ from any expedition which he undertook except the Battle of Tabuk and that of the Battle of Badr. So far as the Battle of Badr is concerned; nobody was blamed for remaining behind as Allah Messenger ﷺ and the Muslims did not set out for attack but for waylaying the caravan of the Quraish; but it was Allah Who made them confront their enemies without their intention to do so. I had the honour to be with Allah Messenger ﷺ on the night of Aqaba when we pledged our allegiance to Islam and it was more dear to me than my participation in the Battle of Badr; although Badr was more popular amongst people as compared with that Tabuk. And this is my story of remaining back from Allah Messenger ﷺ on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk. Never did I possess means enough and my circumstances more favourable than at the occasion of this expedition. And; by Allah; I had never before this expedition simultaneously in my possession two rides. Allah Messenger ﷺ set out for this expedition in extremely hot season; the journey was long and the land which he and his army had to cover was waterless and he had to confront a large army; so he informed the Muslims about the actual situation they had to face ; so that they should adequately equip themselves for this expedition; and he also told them the destination where he intended to go. And the Muslims who accompanied Allah Messenger ﷺ at that time were large in numbers but there was no proper record of them. Kaab further said: Few were the persons who wanted to absent themselves; and were under the impression that they could easily conceal themselves and thus remain undetected until revelations from Allah; the Exalted and Glorious descended in connection with them. And Allah Messenger ﷺ set out on an expedition when the fruits were ripe and their shadows had been lengthened. I had weakness for them and it was during this season that Allah Messenger ﷺ made preparations and the Muslims too along with them. I also set out in the morning so that I should make preparations along with them but I came back and did nothing and said to myself: I have means enough to make preparations as soon as I like. And I went on doing this postponing my preparations until people were about to depart and it was in the morning that Allah Messenger ﷺ set out and the Muslims too along with him; but I made no preparations. I went early in the morning and came back; but I made no decision. I continued to do so until they the Muslims hastened and covered a good deal of distance. I also made up my mind to march on and to meet them. Would that I had done that but perhaps it was not destined for me. After the departure of Allah Messenger ﷺ as I went out amongst people; I was shocked to find that I did not find anyone like me but people who were labelled as hypocrites or the people whom Allah granted exemption because of their incapacity and Allah Messenger ﷺ took no notice of me until he had reached Tabuk. One day as he was sitting amongst the people in Tabuk he said: What has happened to Kaab Bin Malik? A person from Banu Salama said: Allah Messenger; the beauty of his cloak and his appreciation of his sides have allured him and he was thus detained. Muadh Bin Jabal said: Woe be upon that what you contend. Allah Messenger; by Allah; we know nothing about him but good. Allah Messenger ﷺ ; however; kept quiet. It was during that time that he the Holy Prophet saw a person dressed in all white garment shattering the illusion of eye mirage. Thereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: May he be Abu Khaithama and; lo; it was Abu Khaithama AlAnsari and he was that person who contributed a sa of dates and was scoffed at by the hypocrites. Kaab Bin Malik farther said: When this news reached me that Allah Messenger ﷺ was on his way back from Tabuk I was greatly perturbed. I thought of fabricating false stories and asked myself how I would save myself from his anger on the following day. In this connection; I sought the help of every prudent man from amongst the members of my family and when it was said to me that Allah Messenger ﷺ was about to arrive; all the false ideas banished from my mind and I came to the conclusion that nothing could save me but the telling of truth; so I decided to speak the truth and it was in the morning that Allah Messenger ﷺ arrived in Medina. And it was his habit that as he came back from a journey he first went to the Masjid and observed two Rakahs of nafl prayer as a mark of gratitude and then sat amongst people. And as he did that; those who had remained behind him began to put forward their excuses and take an oath before him and they were more than eighty persons. Allah Messenger ﷺ accepted their excuses on the very face of them and accepted their allegiance and sought forgiveness for them and left their secret intentions to Allah; until I presented myself to him. I greeted him and he smiled and there was a tinge of anger in that. He the Holy Prophet then said to me: Come forward. I went forward until I sat in front of him. He said to me: What kept you back? Could you not afford to go in for a ride? I said: Allah Messenger; by Allah; if I were to sit in the presence of anybody else from amongst the worldly people I would have definitely saved myself from his anger on one pretext or the other and I have also the knack to fall into argumentation; but; by Allah; I am fully aware of the fact that if I were to put forward before you a false excuse to please you Allah would definitely provoke your wrath upon me; and if I speak the truth you may be annoyed with me; but I hope that Allah would make its end well and; by Allah; there is no valid excuse for me. By Allah; I never possessed so good means; and I never had such favourable conditions for me as I had when I stayed behind you failed to join the expedition. Thereupon; Allah Messenger ﷺ said: This man told the truth; so get up until Allah gives a decision in your case. I stood up and some people of Banu Salama followed me in hot haste; and they said to me: By Allah; we do not know about you that you committed a sin prior to this. You; however; showed inability to put forward an excuse before Allah Messenger ﷺ as those who stayed behind him have put forward excuses. It would have been enough for the forgiveness of your sin that Allah Messenger ﷺ would have sought forgiveness for you. By Allah; they continued to incite me until I thought of going back to Allah Messenger ﷺ and contradict myself. Then I said to them: Has anyone else also met the same fate? They said: Yes; two persons have met the same fate as has fallen to you and they have made the sane statement as you have made; and the same verdict has been delivered in their case as it has been delivered in your case. I said: Who are they? They said: Murara Bin AlRabia Amiri and Hilal Bin Umaya AlWaqafi. They made a mention of these two pious persons to me who had participated in the Battle of Badr and there was an example for me in them. I went away when they named these two persons. Allah Messenger ﷺ forbade the Nluslims to talk with three of us from amongst those persons who had stayed behind him. The people began to avoid us and their attitude towards us underwent a change and it seemed as if the whole atmosphere had turned hostile against us and it was in fact the same atmosphere ot which I was fully aware and in which I had lived for a fairly long time. We spent fifty nights in this very state and my two friends confined themselves withen their houses and spent most of the time in weeping; but as I was young and strong amongst them I got out of my house ; participated in congregational prayers; moved about in the bazar; but none spoke to me. I came to Allah Messenger ﷺ as he sat amongst people after the prayer; greeted him and asked myself whether his lips stirred in response to my greetings or not. Then I observed prayer beside him and looked at him with stealing glances and when I attended to my prayer; he looked at me and when I cast a glance at him he turned away his eyes from me. And when the harsh treatment of the Muslims towards me extended to a considerable length of time; I walked until I climbed upon the wall of the garden of Abu Qatada; and he was my cousin; and I had the greatest love for him. I greeted him but; by Allah; he did not respond to my greetings. I said to him: Abu Qatada; I adjure you by Allah; arnt you well aware of the fact that I love Allah and His Messenger ﷺ the most. He kept quiet. I again repeated saying: I adjure you by Allah. arnt you well aware of the fact that I love Allah and His Messenger ﷺ the most. He kept quiet. I again adjured him; whereupon he said: Allah and the Messenger ﷺ are best aware of it. My eyes began to shed tears and I came back climbing down from the wall and as I was walking in the bazar of Medina a Nabatean from amongst the Nabateans of Syria; who had come to sell foodgrains in Medina; asked people to direct him to Kaab Bin Malik. People gave him the indication by pointing towards me. He came to me and delivered to me a letter of the King of Ghassan and as I was a scribe I read that letter and it was written like this: Coming to my point; it has been conveyed to us that your friend the Holy Prophet is subjecting you to cruelty and Allah has not created you for a place where you are to be degraded and where you cannot find your right place; so you come to us that we should accord you honour. As I read that letter I said: This is also a calamity; so I burnt it in the oven. When out of the fifty days; forty days had passed and Allah Messenger ﷺ received no revelation; there came the messenger of Allah Messenger ﷺ to me and said: Verily; Allah Messenger ﷺ has commanded you to remain separate from your wife. I said: Should I divorce her or what else should I do? He said: No; but only remain separate from her and dont have sexual contact with her. The same message was sent to my companions. So I said to my wife: You better go to your parents and stay there with them until Allah gives the decision in my case. The wife of Hilal Bin Umaya came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said: Allah Messenger; Hilal Bin Umaya is a senile person; he has no servant. Do you disapprove of my serving him? He said: No; but dont go near him. She said: By Allah; he has no such instinct in him. By Allah; he spends his time in weeping from that day to this day. Some of the members of my family said to me: Were you to seek permission from Allah Messenger ﷺ in regard to your wife as he has granted permission to the wife of Hilal Bin Umaya to serve him. I said: I would not seek permission from Allah Messenger ﷺ ; for I cannot say what Allah Apostle may say in response to seeking my permission. Moreover; I am a young man. It was in this state that I spent ten more nights and thus fifty nights had passed that people had observed boycott with us. It was on the morning of the fiftieth night that I observed my dawn prayer and was sitting on one of the roofs of our houses. And I was in fact sitting in that very state which Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; has described about us in these words: Life had become hard for myself and the earth had compressed despite its vastness; that I heard the noise of an announcer from the peak of the hill of Sal saying at the top of his voice: Kaab Bin Malik; there is glad tidings for you. I fell down in prostration and came to realise that there was a message of relief for me. Allah Messenger ﷺ had informed the people of the acceptance of our repentance by Allah as he offered the dawn prayer. So the people went on to give us glad tidings and some of them went to my friends in order to give them the glad tidings and a person galloped his horse and came from the tribe of Aslam and his horse reached me more quickly than his voice. And when he came to me whose sound I heard; he gave me the glad tidings. I took off my clothes and clothed him with them because of his bringing good news to me and; by Allah; I possessed nothing else in the form of clothes than these two on that occasion; and I asked one to lend me two clothes and dressed myself in them. I came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and on my way I met groups of people who greeted me because of the acceptance of repentance and they said: Here is a greeting for you for your repentance being accepted by Allah. I moved on until I came to the Masjid and Allah Messenger ﷺ had been sitting there amongst persons. So Talha Bin Ubaidullah got up and rushed towards me and he shook hands with me and greeted me and; by Allah; no person stood up to greet me from amongst the emigrants except he. Kaab said that he never forgot this good gesture of Talha. Kaab further said: I greeted Allah Messenger ﷺ with Assalam-o-Alaikam and his face was glistening because of delight; and he said: Let there be glad tidings and blessings for you; the like of which you have neither found nor you will find; as you find today since your mother gave your birth. I said: Allah Messenger. is this acceptance of repentance from you or from Allah? He said: No; it is not from ma ; it is from Allah; and it was common with Allah Messenger ﷺ that as he was happy his face brightened up and it looked like a part of the moon and it was from this that we recognised it his delight. As I sat before him; I said: Allah Messenger; am I allowed to give in charity my wealth for Allah sake and for the sake of His Messenger ﷺ ? Thereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: Keep some property with you as it is better for you. I said: I shall keep with me that part of my property which fell to my lot on the occasion of the expedition of Khaibar. I said: Allah Messenger; verily; Allah has granted me salvation because of truth and; therefore; I think that repentance implies that I should not speak anything but truth as long as I live. He said: By Allah; I do not know whether anyone amongst the Muslims was put to more severe trial than I by Allah because of telling the truth. And since I made a mention of this to Allah Messenger ﷺ up to this day I have not told any lie and; by Allah; I have decided not to tell a lie and I hope that Allah would save me from trials for the rest of my life and Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; revealed these verses: Certainly; Allah has turned in Mercy to the Prophet and the emigrants and the helpers who followed him in the hour of hardship after the hearts of a part of them were about to deviate; then He turned to them in mercy. Surely; to them He is Compassionate; Merciful and He turned in Mercy to the three who were left behind until the earth despite its vastness became strait for them and their souls were also straitened to them. And this revelation reached up to the words : O you who believe; develop God consciousness; and be with the truthful ix. 117-118. Kaab said: By Allah; since Allah directed me to Islam there has been no blessing more significant for me than this truth of mine which I spoke to Allah Messenger ﷺ and if I were to tell a lie I would have been ruined as were ruined those who told lies; for in regard to those who told lies Allah used harshest words used for anyone as He descended revelation and the words of Allah are : They will swear by Allah to you when you retu n to them so that you may leave them alone. So leave them alone. Surely; they are unclean and their resort is Hell; recompense for what they earned. They will swear to you that you may be pleased with them but if you are pleased with them; yet surely Allah is not pleased with the transgressing people ix. 95-96. Kaab said that the matter of us three persons was deferred as compared with those who took an oath in the presence of Allahs Messenger ﷺ and he accepted their allegiance and sought forgiveness for them and Allah did not give any decision in regard to us. It was Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; Who gave decisions in our case; three who remained behind. The words of the Quran the three who were left behind do not mean that we remained back from Jihad but these imply that He kept our matter behind them who took oath and presented excuse before Him. The constituents of one of you are collected for forty days in his mother womb in the form of blood; after which it becomes a clot of blood in another period of forty days. Then it becomes a lump of flesh and forty days later Allah sends His angel to it with instructions concerning four things; so the angel writes down his livelihood; his death; his deeds; his fortune and misfortune. By Him; besides Whom there is no god; that one amongst you acts like the people deserving Paradise until between him and Paradise there remains but the distance of a cubit; when suddenly the writing of destiny overcomes him and he begins to act like the denizens of Hell and thus enters Hell; and another one acts in the way of the denizens of Hell; until there remains between him and Hell a distance of a cubit that the writing of destiny overcomes him and then he begins to act like the people of Paradise and enters Paradise. | The Chapter on Angeles And Good Deeds And Day Of Hell Fire in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 1 in Sahih Muslim

SahihMuslim-017-001-20804 | Aisha reported that Allah Messenger may peace be uport him said. Satirise against the non-believing amongst the Quraish; for the satire is more grievous to them than the hurt of an arrow. So he the Holy Prophet sent someone to Ibn Rawiha and asked him to satirise against them; and he composed a satire; but it did not appeal to him to the Holy Prophet. He then sent someone to Kaab Bin Malik to do the same; but what he composed did not appeal to the Holy Prophet. He then sent one to Hassan Bin Thabit. As he got into his presence; Hassan said: Now you have called for this lion who strikes the enemies with his tail. He then brought out his tongue and began to move it and said: By Him Who has sent you with Truth; I shall tear them with my tongue as the leather is torn. Thereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: Dont be hasty; let Abu Bakr who has the best know- ledge of the lineage of the Quraish draw a distinction for you in regard to my lineage; as my lineage is thesame as theirs. Hassan then came to him Abu Bakr and after making inquiry in regard to the lineage of the Holy Prophet came back to him the holy Prophet and said: Allah Messenger; he Abu Bakr has drawn a distinction in vour lineage and that of the Quraish By Him Who has sent you with Truth; I shall draw out from them your name as hair is drawn out from the flour. Aisha said: I heard Allah Messenger ﷺ as saying to Hassin: Verily Ruh AlQudus would continue to help you so long as you put up a defence on behalf of Allah and His Messenger. And she said: I heard Allah Messenger ﷺ saying: Hassan satirised against them and gave satisfaction to the Muslims and disquieted the non-Muslims. You satirised Muhammad; but I replied on his behalf; And there is reward with Allah for this. You satirised Muhammad. virtuous; righteous; The Apostle of Allah; whose nature is truthfulness. So verily my father and his father and my honour Are a protection to the honour of Muhammad; May I lose my dear daughter; if you dont see her; Wiping away the dust from the two sides of Kada; They pull at the rein; going upward; On their shoulders are spears thirsting for the blood of the enemy ; our steeds are sweating-our women wipe them with their mantles. Otherwise wait for the fighting on the day in which Allah will honour whom He pleases. A person from the Ansar stood up and said: Messenger of Allah; I am ready to entertain. He took him to his house and said to his wife: Is there anything with you to serve the gdest ? He said: I did not understand what to say. So I went to the house of Ibn Umar Allah be pleased with them in Mecca. I said to his servant: Seek permission for Me. He said that he Ibn Umar had been taking rest. He Ibn Umar heard my voice. and said: Are you Ibn Jubair? I said: Yes. Hesaid: Come in. By Allah; it must be some great need which has brought you here at this Hour. So I got in and found him lying on a blanket reclining against a pillow stuffed with fibres of date-palm. I said: O AbuAbd AlRahman; should there be separation between the invokers of curses? He said: Hallowed be Allah; yes; The first one who asked about it was so and so. he said: Messenger of Allah; tell me If one of us finds his wife committing adultery: what should he do? If he talks; that is something great; and if he keeps quiet that is also something great which he cannot afford to do. Allah Prophet ﷺ kept quiet or some time. After some time he that very person came to him Allah Messenger and said: I have been involved in that very cage about which I had asked you Allah the Exalted and Majestic then revealed these verses of Surah Nur: Those who accuse their wives verse 6 ; and he the Holy Prophet recited them to him and admonished him; and exhorted him and informed him that the torment of the world is less painful than the torment of the Hereafter. He said: No; by Him Who sent you with Truth; I did not tell a lie against her. Thereupon he Ibn Abbas said: They have told the truth and the lie too. I said: What do your words They have told the truth and the lie too imply? Thereupon he said: Allah Messenger ﷺ came to Mecca and the polytheists said that Muhammad and his Companions had emaciated and would; therefore; be unable to circumambulate the House; and they felt jealous of him the Holy Prophet. It was due to this that Allah Messenger ﷺ commanded them to walk swiftly in three circuits and walk normally in four. I said to him: Inform me if it is Sunnah to observe Tawaf between AlSafa and AlMarwa while riding; for your people look upon it as Sunnah. He Ibn Abbas said: They have told the truth and the lie too. I said: What do your words They have told the truth and the lie too imply? He said: When Allah Messenger ﷺ had come to Mecca; there was such a large gathering of people around him that even the virgins had come out of their houses to catch a glimpse of his face. And they were saying: He is Muhammad; He is Muhammad. Allah Messenger ﷺ was so gentle and kind that the people were not beaten back to make way in front of him. If one of us saw his wife committing adultery; what should he do? If he were to say anything; his statement would be a horrible matter; and if he were to remain silent; his silence about the matter would be horrible. He said: So the Prophet ﷺ remained silent and did not answer him. Afterwards he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: The one who asked you about it has been tried by it. So Allah revealed these Ayat from Surat AlNur: And those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies by Allah 24:6-10 - until the end of those Ayat. He said: So he called for the man and recited the Ayat to him and admonished him; reminded him; and he told him: Indeed the punishment of the world is less than the punishment of the Hereafter. So he said: Nay! By the One Who sent you with the Truth! I did not lie about her. Then he ﷺ did the same with the woman; admonishing her and reminding her and he told her: Indeed the punishment of the world is less than the punishment of the Hereafter. She said: Nay! By the One Who sent you with the Truth! He is not telling the truth. He said: So he started with the man: He testified four times; by Allah that he is one of the truthful; and the fifth time that the curse of Allah be upon him if he was one of the liars. When the month of Ramadan entered; I pronounced Zihar upon my wife to last until the end of Ramadan; fearing that I might have an encounter with her during the night; and I would continue doing that until daylight came upon me; and I would not be able to stop. One night while she was serving me; something of her became exposed for me; so I rushed myself upon her. When the morning came I went to my people to inform them about what happened to me. I said: Accompany me to the Messenger of Allah to inform him about my case. They said: No by Allah! We shall not do that; we feat that something will be revealed about us in the Quran; or the Messenger of Allah might say something about us; the disgrace of which will remain upon us. But you do and do whatever you want. He said: So I left and I went to the Messenger of Allah; and informed him of my case. He said: You are the one who did that? I said: I am the one. He said: You are the one who did that? I said: I am the one. He said: You are the one who did that? I said: I am the one; it is before you; so give me Allahs judgment; for I shall be patient with that. He said: Free a slave. He said: I struck the sides of my neck with me hands; and said: No by the One Who sent you with the Truth! I possess nothing besides it. I said: By the One Who sent you with the Truth! We have spent these nights of ours hungry without an evening meal. He said: Go to the one with the charity from Banu Ruzaiq; tell him to give it to you; then feed a Wasq of it; on your behalf; to sixty poor people. Then help yourself and your dependants with the remainder of it. When the month of Ramadan came; I feared lest I should have intercourse with my wife; and this evil should remain with me till the morning. So I made my wife like my mother back to me till the end of Ramadan. But one night when she was waiting upon me; something of her was revealed. Suddenly I jumped upon her. When the morning came I went to my people and informed them about this matter. I said: Go along with me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They said: No; by Allah. So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him of the matter. He said: Have you really committed it; Salamah? I said: I committed it twice; Messenger of Allah. I am content with the Commandment of Allah; the Exalted; so take a decision about me according to what Allah has shown you. He said: Free a slave. I said: By Him Who sent you with truth; I do not possess a neck other than this: and I struck the surface of my neck. He said: Then fast two consecutive months. I said: Whatever I suffered is due to fasting. He said: Feed sixty poor people with a wasq of dates. The Prophet ﷺ said Produce evidence or you must receive punishment on your back. He said Apostle of Allaah ﷺ when one of us sees a man having intercourse with his wife should he go and seek evidence? But the Prophet ﷺ merely said You must produce evidence or you must receive punishment on your back. Hilal then said By Him Who sent you with the Truth; I am speaking Truly. May Allaah send down something which will free my back from punishment. Then the following Quranic verses were revealed And those who make charges against their spouses but have no witnesses except themselves reciting till he reached one of those who speak the truth. The Prophet ﷺ then returned and sent for them and they came to him. Hilal Bin Umayah stood up and testified and the Prophet ﷺ was saying Allaah knows that one of you is lying. Will one of you repent? Then the woman got up and testified; but when she was about to do it a fifth time saying that Allaahs anger be upon her if he was one of those who spoke the truth; they said to her this is the deciding one. Ibn Abbas said She then hesitated and drew back so that we thought the she would withdraw what she said Look and see whether she gives birth to a child with eyes looking as if they have antimony in them; wide buttocks and fat legs; if she did. Sharik Bin Sahma will be its father. She then gave birth to a child of a similar description. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25095 | Ibn Abbas said Hilal Bin Umayah was one of the three persons whose repentance was accepted by Allaah. One night he returned from his land and found a man along with his wife. He witnessed with his eyes and heard with his ears. He did not threaten him till the morning. Next day he went to the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ in the morning and said Apostle of Allaah ﷺ I came to my wife in the night and found a man along with her. I saw with my own eyes and heard with my own ears. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ disliked what he described and he took it seriously. There upon the following Quranic verse came down And those who make charges against their spouses but have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony of one of them.... When the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ came to himself after the revelation ended he said Glad tidings to you Hilal; Allaah the exalted has made ease and a way out for you. Hilal said I expected that from my Lord. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said Send for her. She then came. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ recited the verses to them and he reminded them and told them that the punishment in the next world was more severe than that in n this world. Hilal said I swear by Allah I spoke the truth against her. She said He told a lie. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said Apply the method of invoking curses on one another. Hilal was told Bear witness. So he bore witness before Allaah four times that he spoke the truth. When he was about to utter the fifth time he was told Hilal fear Allah; for the punishment in this world is easier than that in the next world and this is the deciding one; that will surely cause punishment to you. He said I swear by Allaah. Allah will not punish me for this act ; as He did not cause me to be flogged for this act. So he bore witness a fifth time invoking the curse of Allah on him if he was of those who tell a lie. Then the people said to her; Testify. So she gave testimony before Allaah that he was a liar. When she was going to testify the fifth time she was told Fear Allah; for the punishment in this world is easier than that in the next world. This is the deciding one that will surely cause punishment to you. She hesitated for a moment. And then said By Allah; I will not disgrace my people. So she testified a fifth time invoking the curse of Allah on her if he spoke the truth. Apostle of Allaah ﷺ separated them from each other and decided that the child will not be attributed to its father. Neither she nor her child will be accused of adultery. He who accuses her or her child will be liable to punishment. He also decided that there will be no dwelling and maintenance for her from the husband as they were separated without divorce and death. He then said If she gives birth to a child with reddish hair; light buttocks; wide belly and light shins he will be the child of Hilal. If she bears a dusky child with curly hair; fat limbs; fat shins and fat buttocks he will be the child of the one who was accused of adultery. She gave birth to a child with curly hair; fat limbs; fat shins and fat buttocks. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said Had there been no oaths; I would have dealt with her severely.Ikrimah said Later on he became the chief of the tribe of Mudar. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25550 | Abu AlTufail said I said to Ibn Abbas Your people think that the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ walked proudly with swift strides while going round the Kabah and that it is sunnah practice of the Prophet. He said They spoke the truth in part and told a lie in part. I asked What truth did they speak and what lie did they tell? He said They spoke the truth that the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ walked proudly while going round the Kabah but they told a lie; this is no sunnah. The Quraish asserted during the days of AlHudaibiyah Forsake Muhammad and his Companions till they die the death of a Camel which dies of bacteria in its nose. When they concluded a treaty with him agreeing upon the fact that they the Prophet and his Companions would come to Makkah next year and stay at Makkah three days; the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said to the Companions Walk proudly moving shoulders while going round the Kabah in first three circuits. Ibn Abbas said But this is not sunnah. I said Your people think that the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ ran between AlSafa and AlMarwah on a Camel and that is sunnah. He said They spoke the truth in part and told a lie in part. I asked What truth did they speak and what lie did they tell? He said they spoke the truth that the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ ran between AlSafa and AlMarwah on a Camel. They told a lie that it is a sunnah. As the people did not move from around the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ and did not separate themselves from him he did the sai on a Camel so that they may listen to him and see his position and their hands might not reach him. | The Chapter on The Companions In Makkah in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on ArRaml Walking Briskly During Tawaf in Sunan Abu Dawoud
SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25828 | Yazid Bin Umairah; who was one of the companions of Muadh Bin Jabal said: Whenever he muadh Bin jabal sat in a meeting for preaching; he would say: Allah is a just arbiter; those who doubt would perish. One day Muadh Bin jabal said: In the times after you there would be trails in which riches would be abundant. During these trails the Quran would be easy so much so that every believer; hypocrite; man; woman; young; grown up; slave and free man will learn it. Then a man might say: What happened with the people that they do not follow me while I read the Quran? They are not going to follow me until I introduce a novelty for them other than it. So avoid that which is innovated in religion ; for whichever is innovated is an error. I warn you of the deviation of a scholar from right guidance; for sometimes Satan utters a word of error through the tongue of a scholar; and sometimes a hypocrites may speak a word of truth. I said to Muadh Bin jabal: I am at a loss to understand may Allah have mercy on you that a learned man sometimes may speak a word of error and a hypocrite may speak a word of truth. He replied: Yes; avoid the speech of a learned man on distract you from him the learned ; for it is possible that he may withdraw from these well-known things ; and you get the truth when you hear it; for truth has light.Abu Dawud said: In this tradition Mamar on the authority of AlZuhrl said: The words wa la yun iyannaka instead of wa la yuthniyannaka; with the same meaning: it may not distract you salih Bin Kaisan on the authority of AlZurhrl said in this tradition the words Almushtaharat well-know things. He also said the word La yuthniyannaka as Uqail mentioned. Ibn ishaq; on the authority of AlZuhri; said: Yes; if you are doubtful about the speech of a scholar until you say: WHAT did he mean by this word? | The Chapter on Truth And Hypocrisy And Dreams in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Adherence To The Sunnah in Sunan Abu Dawoud
SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25912 | Yahya Bin Yamur said : The first to speak on Divine decree in AlBasrah was Mabad AlJuhani. I and Humaid Bin Abdulrahman AlHimyari proceeded to perform Hajj or Umrah. We said : would that we meet any of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that we could ask him about what they say with regard to divine decree. So Allah helped us to meet Abdullah Bin Umar who was entering the Masjid. So I and my companion surrounded him; and I thought that my companion would entrust me the task of speaking to him. Then I said : Abu Abdulrahman there appeared on our side some people who recite the Quran and are engaged in the hair-splitting of knowledge. They conceive that there is no Divine decree and everything happens freely without predestination. He said : When you meet those people; tell them that I am free from them; and they are free from me. By Him by Whom swears Abdullah Bin Umar; if one of them has gold equivalent to Uhud and he spends it; Allah will not accept it from him until he believes in Divine decree. He then said : Umar Bin AlKhattab transmitted to me a tradition; saying : One day when we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a man with very white clothing and very black hair came up to us. No mark of travel was visible on him; and we did not recognize him. Sitting down beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; leaning his knees against his and placing his hands on his thighs; he said : tell me; Muhammad; about Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said : Islam means that you should testify that there is no god but Allah; and Muhammad is Allahs Apostle; that you should observe prayer; pay Zakat; fast during Ramadan; and perform Hajj to the house i.e.; Kabah ; If you have the means to go. He said : You have spoken the truth. We were surprised at his questioning him and then declaring that he spoke the truth. He said : Now tell me about faith. He replied : It means that you should believe in Allah; his angels; his Books; his Apostles and the last day; and that you should believe in the decreeing both of good and evil. He said : You have spoken the truth. He said : now tell me about doing good ihsan. He replied: It means that you should worship Allah as though you are seeing him; if you are not seeing him; he is seeing you. He said: Now tell me about the hour. He replied : The one who is asked about it is no better informed than the one who is asking. He said : Then tell me about its signs. He replied : That a maidservant should beget her mistress; and that you should see barefooted; naked; poor men and shepherds exalting themselves in buildings. Umar said : He then went away; and I waited for three days; then he said : Do you know who the questioner was; Umar? I replied : Allah and his Apostle know best. He said : He was Gabriel who came to you to teach you your religion. | The Chapter on Hour And Day Of Truth in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Belief In Divine Decree in Sunan Abu Dawoud
SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25955 | Abdullah Bin Masud reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: When Allah; the exalted; speaks to send revelation; the inhabitants of heaven hear the clanging of a bell from the heavens like a chain being dragged across a rock; and they swoon. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-26952 | Abu Huraira reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying : it is better for a mans belly to be full of pus than to be full of poetry.Abu Ali said : I have been told that Abu Ubaid said : It means that his heart is full of poetry so much so that it makes him neglectful of the Quran and remembrance of Allah. If the Quran and the knowledge of religion are dominant; the belly will not be full of poetry in our opinion. Some eloquent speech is magic. It means that a man expresses his eloquence by praising another man; and he speaks the truth about him so much so that he attracts the hearts to his speech. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-29764 | Abu Qatadah said We went out with the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ in the year of Hunain. And when the armies met; the Muslims suffered a reverse. I saw one of the polytheists prevailing over a Muslim; so I went round him till I came to him from behind and struck him with my sword at the vein between his neck and shoulder. He came towards me and closed with me; so that I felt death was near; but he was overtaken by death and let me go. I then caught upon on Umar Bin AlKhattab and said to him What is the matter with the people? He said It is what Allaah has commanded. Then the people returned and the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ sat down and said If anyone kills a man and can prove it; he will get his spoil. I stood up and said Who will testify for me? I then sat down. He said again If anyone kills a man and can prove it; he will get his spoil. I stood up and said Who will testify for me? I then sat down. He then said the same for the third time. I then stood up. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said What is the matter with you; Abu Qatadah? I told him the story. A man from the people said He has spoken the truth; and I have this spoil with me; so make him agreeable to take something in exchange. Abu Bakr said In that case I swear by Allaah that he must not do so. One of the Allaahs heroes does not fight for Allaah and his Apostle and then give you his spoil. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said He has spoken the truth; hand it over to him. Abu Qatadah said he handed it over to me; I sold the coat of mail and brought a garden among Banu Salamh. MuwataMalik-017-001-34899 | Malik related to me from Yahya Ibn Said from Said Ibn AlMusayab that Umar Ibn AlKhattab had a dispute brought to him between a muslim and a jew. Umar saw that the right belonged to the jew and decided in his favour. The jew said to him; By Allah! You have judged correctly. So Umar Ibn AlKhattab struck him with a whip and said; How can you be sure. The jew said to him; We find that there is no judge who judges correctly but that there is an angel on his right side and an angel on his left side who guide him and give him success in the truth as long as he is with the truth. Ibn Shihab said; That was mentioned to Amra bint Abdulrahman and she said that Urwa had spoken the truth and people had argued with Aisha about it. MuwataMalik-017-001-35427 | Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya Ibn Said from Amr Ibn Kathir Ibn Aflah from Abu Muhammad; the mawla of Abu Qatada that Abu Qatada Ibn Ribi said; We went out with the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; in the year of Hunayn. When the armies met; the Muslims were put in disarray. I saw a man from the idol worshippers who had got the better of one of the Muslims; so I circled round and came up behind him; and struck him with a sword on his shoulder-blade. He turned to me and grabbed me so hard that I felt the smell of death in it. Then death overcame him; and he let go of me. He continued; I met Umar Ibn AlKhattab and said to him; What going on with the people? He replied; The Command of Allah. Then the people took hold of the battle and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; Whoever has killed one of the dead and can prove it; can strip him of his personal effects. I stood up and said; Who will testify for me? and then I sat down. The Messenger of Allah repeated; Whoever has killed one of the dead and can prove it; can strip him of his personal effects. I stood up and said; Who will testify for me? then I sat down. Then he repeated his statement a third time; so I stood up; and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; What the matter with you; Abu Qatada? So I related my story to him. A man said; He has spoken the truth; Messenger of Allah. I have the effects of that slain person with me; so give him compensation for it; Messenger of Allah. Abu Bakr said; No; by Allah! He did not intend that one of the lions of Allah should fight for Allah and His Messenger and then give you his spoils. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; He has spoken the truth; hand it over to him. He gave it to me; and I sold the breast-plate and I bought a garden in the area of the Banu Salima with the money.
