Hadith PageArabic TextEnglish TranslationBook and Chapter
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-227Narrated Abdullah Bin Ubaidullah Bin Abi Mulaika: One of the daughters of Uthman died at Mecca. We went to attend her funeral procession. Ibn Umar and Ibn Abbas were also present. I sat in between them or said; I sat beside one of them. Then a man came and sat beside me. Abdullah Bin Umar said to Amr Bin Uthman; Will you not prohibit crying as Allah Messenger ﷺ has said; The dead person is tortured by the crying of his relatives.? Ibn Abbas said; Umar used to say so. Then he added narrating; I accompanied Umar on a journey from Mecca till we reached AlBaida. There he saw some travelers in the shade of a Samura A kind of forest tree. He said to me ; Go and see who those travelers are. So I went and saw that one of them was Suhaib. I told this to Umar who then asked me to call him. So I went back to Suhaib and said to him; Depart and follow the chief of the faithful believers. Later; when Umar was stabbed; Suhaib came in weeping and saying; O my brother; O my friend! on this Umar said to him; O Suhaib! Are you weeping for me while the Prophet ﷺ said; The dead person is punished by some of the weeping of his relatives? Ibn Abbas added; When Umar died I told all this to Aisha and she said; May Allah be merciful to Umar. By Allah; Allah Messenger ﷺ did not say that a believer is punished by the weeping of his relatives. But he said; Allah increases the punishment of a non-believer because of the weeping of his relatives. Aisha further added; The Quran is sufficient for you to clear up this point as Allah has stated: No burdened soul will bear another burden. 35.18. Ibn Abbas then said; Only Allah makes one laugh or cry. Ibn Umar did not say anything after that. The Chapter on Funerals And The Dead in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The deceased is punished because of the weeping of his relatives in Sahih AlBukhari

A man came and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! The women of Jafar; and then he mentioned their crying. The Prophet ﷺ ordered him to stop them from crying. The man went and came back and said; I tried to stop them but they disobeyed. The Prophet ﷺ ordered him for the second time to forbid them. He went again and came back and said; They did not listen to me; or us: the sub-narrator Muhammad Bin Haushab is in doubt as to which is right. Aisha added: The Prophet ﷺ said; Put dust in their mouths. I said to that man ; May Allah stick your nose in the dust i.e. humiliate you. He will say: I testify that he is Allah slave and His Apostle. Then it will be said to him; Look at your place in the Hell-Fire. Allah has given you a place in Paradise instead of it. The Prophet ﷺ added; The dead person will see both his places. But a non-believer or a hypocrite will say to the angels; I do not know; but I used to say what the people used to say! It will be said to him; Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance by reciting the Quran. Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears; and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings and jinns. The Chapter on Recitations And Poetry And Crying in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on A dead person hears the footsteps of the living in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3729Narrated Abdullah Bin Umar: I never heard Umar saying about something that he thought it would be so-and-so; but he was quite right. Once; while Umar was sitting; a handsome man passed by him; Umar said; If I am not wrong; this person is still on his religion of the pre-lslamic period of ignorance or he was their foreteller. Call the man to me. When the man was called to him; he told him of his thought. The man said; I have never seen such a day on which a Muslim is faced with such an accusation. Umar said; I am determined that you should tell me the truth. He said; I was a foreteller in the pre-lslamic period of ignorance. Then Umar said; Tell me the most astonishing thing your female Jinn has told you of. He said; One-day while I was in the market; she came to me scared and said; Havent you seen the Jinns and their despair and they were overthrown after their defeat and prevented from listening to the news of the heaven so that they stopped going to the sky and kept following camel-riders i.e. Arabs ? Umar said; He is right. and added; One day while I was near their idols; there came a man with a calf and slaughtered it as a sacrifice for the idols. An unseen creature shouted at him; and I have never heard harsher than his voice. He was crying; O you bold evil-doer! A matter of success! An eloquent man is saying: None has the right to be worshipped except you O Allah. On that the people fled; but I said; I shall not go away till I know what is behind this. Then the cry came again: O you bold evil-doer! A matter of success! An eloquent man is saying: None has the right to be worshipped except Allah.
