He said; The Prophet ﷺ said to those who were involved in a case of Lien; Your accounts are with Allah. One of you two is a liar; and you the husband have no right over her she is divorced. The man said; What about my property Mahr ? The Prophet ﷺ said; You have no right to get back your property. If you have told the truth about her then your property was for the consummation of your marriage with her; and if you told a lie about her; then you are less rightful to get your property back. Sufyan; a sub-narrator said: I learned the Hadith from Amr. Narrated Ayoub : I heard Saeed Bin Jubair saying; I asked Ibn Umar; If a man accuses his wife for an illegal sexual intercourse and carries out the process of Lian what will happen ? SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3967 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: Mousailama AlKadhdhab i.e. the liar came in the life-time of Allah Messenger ﷺ with many of his people to Medina and said; If Muhammad makes me his successor; I will follow him. Allah Messenger ﷺ went up to him with Thabit Bin Qais Bin Shams; and Allah Messenger ﷺ was carrying a piece of a datepalm leaf in his hand. He stood before Mousailama and his companions and said; If you asked me even this piece of a leaf ; I would not give it to you. You cannot avoid the fate you are destined to; by Allah. If you reject Islam; Allah will destroy you. I think that you are most probably the same person whom I have seen in the dream. Abu Huraira told me that Allah Messenger ﷺ ; said; While I was sleeping; I saw in a dream two gold bracelets round my arm; and that worried me too much. Then I was instructed divinely in my dream; to blow them off and so I blew them off; and they flew away. I interpreted the two bracelets as symbols of two liars who would appear after me. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6799 | Narrated Anas: Abdullah Bin Salam heard the news of the arrival of Allah Messenger ﷺ at Medina while he was on a farm collecting its fruits. So he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said; I will ask you about three things which nobody knows unless he be a prophet. Firstly; what is the first portent of the Hour? What is the first meal of the people of Paradise? And what makes a baby look like its father or mother?. The Prophet ﷺ said; Just now Gabriel has informed me about that. Abdullah said; Gabriel? The Prophet ﷺ said; Yes. Abdullah said; He; among the angels is the enemy of the Jews. On that the Prophet ﷺ recited this Holy Verse:- Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel let him die in his fury! for he has brought it i.e. Quran down to your heart by Allah permission. 2.97 Then he added; As for the first portent of the Hour; it will be a fire that will collect the people from the East to West. And as for the first meal of the people of Paradise; it will be the caudite i.e. extra lobe of the fish liver. And if a man discharge proceeded that of the woman; then the child resembles the father; and if the woman discharge proceeded that of the man; then the child resembles the mother. On hearing that; Abdullah said; I testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; and that you are the Messenger of Allah; O; Allah Messenger ﷺ ; the Jews are liars; and if they should come to know that I have embraced Islam; they would accuse me of being a liar. In the meantime some Jews came to the Prophet and he asked them; What is Abdullah status amongst you? They replied; He is the best amongst us; and he is our chief and the son of our chief. The Prophet ﷺ said; What would you think if Abdullah Bin Salam embraced Islam? They replied; May Allah protect him from this! Then Abdullah came out and said; I testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. The Jews then said; Abdullah is the worst of us and the son of the worst of us; and disparaged him. On that Abdullah said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6895 | Narrated Abu Saeed AlKhudri: During the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ some people said; : O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection? The Prophet ﷺ said; Yes; do you have any difficulty in seeing the sun at midday when it is bright and there is no cloud in the sky? They replied; No. He said; Do you have any difficulty in seeing the moon on a full moon night when it is bright and there is no cloud in the sky? They replied; No. The Prophet ﷺ said; Similarly you will have no difficulty in seeing Allah on the Day of Resurrection as you have no difficulty in seeing either of them. On the Day of Resurrection; a call-maker will announce; Let every nation follow that which they used to worship. Then none of those who used to worship anything other than Allah like idols and other deities but will fall in Hell Fire ; till there will remain none but those who used to worship Allah; both those who were obedient i.e. good and those who were disobedient i.e. bad and the remaining party of the people of the Scripture. Then the Jews will be called upon and it will be said to them; Who do you use to worship? They will say; We used to worship Ezra; the son of Allah. It will be said to them; You are liars; for Allah has never taken anyone as a wife or a son. What do you want now? They will say; O our Lord! We are thirsty; so give us something to drink. They will be directed and addressed thus; Will you drink; whereupon they will be gathered unto Hell Fire which will look like a mirage whose different sides will be destroying each other. Then they will fall into the Fire. Afterwards the Christians will be called upon and it will be said to them; Who do you use to worship? They will say; We used to worship Jesus; the son of Allah. It will be said to them; You are liars; for Allah has never taken anyone as a wife or a son; Then it will be said to them; What do you want? They will say what the former people have said. Then; when there remain in the gathering none but those who used to worship Allah Alone; the real Lord of the Worlds whether they were obedient or disobedient. Then Allah the Lord of the worlds will come to them in a shape nearest to the picture they had in their minds about Him. It will be said; What are you waiting for? Every nation have followed what they used to worship. They will reply; We left the people in the world when we were in great need of them and we did not take them as friends. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7009 | Narrated Urwa Bin AlZubair: That when he asked Aisha about the statement of Allah Until when the Apostles gave up hope of their people. 12.110 she told him its meaning ; Urwa added; I said; Did they Apostles suspect that they were betrayed by Allah or that they were treated as liars by their people ? Aisha said; They suspected that they were treated as liars by their people ; I said; But they were sure that their people treated them as liars and it was not a matter of suspicion. She said; Yes; upon my life they were sure about it. I said to her. So they Apostles suspected that they were betrayed by Allah. She said; Allah forbid! The Apostles never suspected their Lord of such a thing. I said; What about this Verse then? SahihMuslim-017-001-18040 | It is reported by Zuhri that this tradition was narrated to him by Malik Bin Aus who said: Umar Bin AlKhattab sent for me and I came to him when the day had advanced. I found him in his house sitting on his bare bed-stead; reclining on a leather pillow. He said to me : Malik; some people of your tribe have hastened to me with a request for help. I have ordered a little money for them. Take it and distribute it among them. I said: I wish you had ordered somebody else to do this job. He said: Malik; take it and do what you have been told. At this moment his man-servant Yarfa came in and said: Commander of the Faithful; what do you say about Uthman; Abd AlRabman Bin Auf; AlZubair and Saad who have come to seek an audience with you ? He said: Yes; and permitted them. so they entered. Then he Yarfa came again and said: What do you say about Ali and Abbas who are present at the door ? He said: Yes; and permitted them to enter. Abbas said: Commander of the Faithful; decide the dispute between me and this sinful; treacherous; dishonest liar. The people who were present also said: Yes. Commander of the Faithful; do decide the dispute and have mercy on them. Malik Bin Aus said: I could well imagine that they had sent them in advance for this purpose by Ali and Abbas. Umar said: Wait and be patient. I adjure you by Allah by Whose order the heavens and the earth are sustained; dont you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: We prophets do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is to be given in charity? They said: Yes. Then he turned to Abbas and Ali and said: I adjure you both by Allah by Whose order the heavens and earth are sustained; dont you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: We do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is to be given in charity? They too said: Yes. Then Umar said: Allah; the Glorious and Exalted; had done to His Messenger ﷺ a special favour that He has not done to anyone else except him. He quoted the Quranic verse: What Allah has bestowed upon His Apostle from the properties of the people of township is for Allah and His Messenger. The narrator said: I do not know whether he also recited the previous verse or not. Umar continued: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ distrbuted among you the properties abandoned by Banu Nadir. By Allah; he never preferred himself over you and never appropriated anything to your exclusion. After a fair distribution in this way this property was left over. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would meet from its income his annual expenditure; and what remained would be deposited in the Bait AlMal. Continuing further he said: I adjure you by Allah by Whose order the heavens and the earth are sustained. Do you know this? They said: Yes. Then he adjured Abbas and All as he had adjured the other persons and asked: Do you both know this? They said: Yes. He said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away; Abu Bakr said: I am the successor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Both of you came to demand your shares from the property left behind by the Messenger of Allah. Referring to Hadrat Abbas ; he said: You demanded your share from the property of your nephew; and he referring to Ali demanded a share on behalf of his wife from the property of her father. Abu Bakr Allah be pleased with him said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said: We do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is to be given in charity. So both of you thought him to be a liar; sinful; treacherous and dishonest. And Allah knows that he was true; virtuous; well-guided and a follower of truth. When Abu Bakr passed away and I have become the successor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr Allah be pleased with him ; you thought me to be a liar; sinful; treacherous and dishonest. And Allah knows that I am true; virtuous; well-guided and a follower of truth. I became the guardian of this property. Then you as well as he came to me. Both of you have come and your purpose is identical. You said: Entrust the property to us. I said: If you wish that I should entrust it to you; it will be on the condition that both of you will undertake to abide by a pledge made with Allah that you will use it in the same way as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used it. So both of you got it. He said: Wasnt it like this? They said: Yes. He said: Then you have again come to me with the request that I should adjudge between you. No; by Allah. I will not give any other judgment except this until the arrival of the Doomsday. SahihMuslim-017-001-18644 | It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah Bin Umar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed: He who perjured with a view to appropriating the property of a Muslim; and he is in fact a liar and would meet Allah in a state that He would be angry with him. I am not going to do anything against the will of God in your case; and if you turn away from what I say Allah will destroy you. SahihMuslim-017-001-20903 | Abu Nawfal reported: I saw the dead body of Abdullah Bin AlZubair hanging on the road of Medina leading to Mecca. The Quraish passed by it and other people too; that Abdullah Bin Umar happened to pass by it. He stood up there and said: May there be peace upon you; Abu Khubaib the Kunya of Hadrat Abdullah Bin AlZubair ; may there be peace upon you Abu Khubaib; may there be peace upon you; Abu Khubaib! By Allah; I used to forbid you from this; by Allah; I used to forbid you from this; by Allah I used to forbid you from this. By Allah; so far as I know; you had been very much devoted to fasting and prayer and you had been paying very much care to cementing the ties of blood. By Allah; the group to which you belong are labelled as a wicked person is indeed a fine group. Then Abdullah Bin Umar went away. The stand Abdullah Bin Umar took in regard to the inhuman treatment meted out to Abdullah Bin AlZubair and his words in that connection were conveyed to AlHajjaj Bin Yousif and as a consequence of that he the body of Abdullah Bin AlZubair was brought down from the stump the scaffold by which it was hanging and thrown into the graves of the Jews. He AlHajjaj sent his messenger to Asma bint Abu Bakr; Abdullah mother. But she refused to come. He again sent the messenger to her with the message that she must come; otherwise he would bring her forcibly catching hold of her hair. But she again refused and said: By Allah; I will not come to you until you send one to me who would drag me by pulling my hair. Thereupon he said: Bring me my shoes. He put on his shoes and walked on quickly swollen with vanity and pride until he came to her and said: How do you find what I have done with the enemy of Allah? She said: I find that you wronged him in this world; whereas he has spoiled your next life. It has been conveyed to me that you used to call him Abdullah Bin AlZubair as the son of one having two belts. By Allah; I am indeed a woman of two belts. One is that with the help of which I used to suspend high the food of Allah Messenger ﷺ and that of Abu Bakr making it out of the reach of animals and; so far as the second belt is concerned; that is the belt which no woman can dispense with. Verily Allah Messenger ﷺ told us that in Thaqif; there would be born a great liar and great murderer. The liar we have seen; and as far as the murderer is concerned; I do not find anyone else besides you. He said that he Ibn Umar had been taking rest. He Ibn Umar heard my voice. and said: Are you Ibn Jubair? I said: Yes. Hesaid: Come in. By Allah; it must be some great need which has brought you here at this Hour. So I got in and found him lying on a blanket reclining against a pillow stuffed with fibres of date-palm. I said: O AbuAbd AlRahman; should there be separation between the invokers of curses? He said: Hallowed be Allah; yes; The first one who asked about it was so and so. he said: Messenger of Allah; tell me If one of us finds his wife committing adultery: what should he do? If he talks; that is something great; and if he keeps quiet that is also something great which he cannot afford to do. Allah Prophet ﷺ kept quiet or some time. After some time he that very person came to him Allah Messenger and said: I have been involved in that very cage about which I had asked you Allah the Exalted and Majestic then revealed these verses of Surah Nur: Those who accuse their wives verse 6 ; and he the Holy Prophet recited them to him and admonished him; and exhorted him and informed him that the torment of the world is less painful than the torment of the Hereafter. He said: No; by Him Who sent you with Truth; I did not tell a lie against her. He the Holy Prophet then called her the wife of that person who had accused her and admonished her; and exhorted her; and informed her that the torment of this world is less painful than the torment of the Hereafter. She said: No; by Him Who sent thee with Truth; he is a liar. it was the man who started the swearing of oath and he swore in the name of Allah four times that he was among the truthful. and at the fifth turn he said: Let there be curse of Allah upon him if he were among the liars. Then the woman was called and she swore four times in the name of Allah that he her husband was among the liars; and at the fifth time she said : Let there be curse upon her if he were among the truthful. I did not know what to say. So I went to the house of Abdullah Bin Umar and I sought permission to enter. I was told he was taking a nap; but he heard me taking and he said: Is it Ibn Jubair? Enter. You would not have come except for a need. He said: So I entered and found him laying on a saddlecloth from his mount. I said: O Abu Abdulrahman Are those involved in Lian separated? He said: Glorious is Allah! Yes. The first who asked about hat was so-and-so the son of so-and-so. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and said O Messenger of Allah! If one of us saw his wife committing adultery; what should he do? If he were to say anything; his statement would be a horrible matter; and if he were to remain silent; his silence about the matter would be horrible. He said: So the Prophet ﷺ remained silent and did not answer him. Afterwards he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: The one who asked you about it has been tried by it. So Allah revealed these Ayat from Surat AlNur: And those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies by Allah 24:6-10 - until the end of those Ayat. He said: So he called for the man and recited the Ayat to him and admonished him; reminded him; and he told him: Indeed the punishment of the world is less than the punishment of the Hereafter. So he said: Nay! By the One Who sent you with the Truth! I did not lie about her. Then he ﷺ did the same with the woman; admonishing her and reminding her and he told her: Indeed the punishment of the world is less than the punishment of the Hereafter. She said: Nay! By the One Who sent you with the Truth! He is not telling the truth. He said: So he started with the man: He testified four times; by Allah that he is one of the truthful; and the fifth time that the curse of Allah be upon him if he was one of the liars. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-27483 | Ibn Abi Laila said: Prayer passed through three stages. And out people narrated to us that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said; it is to my liking that the prayer of Muslims or believers should be united i.e.; in congregation ; so much so that I intended to send people to the houses to announce the time of prayer; and I also resolved that I should order people to stand at the tops of the forts and announce the time of the prayer for Muslims; and they struck the bell or were about to strike the bell to announce the time for prayer. Then came a person from among the Ansar who said: Messenger of Allah; when I returned from you; as I saw your anxiety. I saw in sleep a person with two green clothes on him; he stood on the Masjid and called people to prayer. He then sat down for a short while and stood up and pronounced in a like manner; except that he added: The time for prayer has come. If the people did not call me a liar ; and according to the version of Ibn AlMuthanna; if you did not call me a liar. I would say that I was awake; I was awake; I was not asleep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: According to the version of Ibn AlMuthanna; Allah has shown you a good dream. But the version of Amr does not have the words: Allah has shown you a good dream. Then ask Bilal to pronounce the ADHAN to call to the prayer. Umar in the meantime said: I also had a dream like the one he had. But as he informed earlier. I was ashamed to inform. Our people have narrated to us: when a person came to the Masjid during the prayer in congregation ; he would ask about the RAKAHS of prayer ; and he would be informed about the number of RAKAHS already performed. They would stand in prayer along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ : some in standing position; others bowing; some sitting and some praying along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ Ibn AlMuthanna reported from Amr from Hussain Bin Abi Laila; saying ; Until Muadh came. Shubah said ; I heard it from Hussain who said : I shall follow the position in the prayer in which I find him the prophet... you should do in a similar way.Abu Dawud said: I then turned to the tradition reported by Amr Bin Marzuq he said; then Maadh came and they the people hinted at him. Shubah said; I heard it from hussain who said: Muadh then said; I shall follow the position in the prayer when I join it in which I find him the prophet. He then said: Muadh has prayer when I join it in which I find him the prophet. He then said: MUadh has introduced for you a SUNNAH a model behaviour ; so you should do in a like manner.He said; our people have narrated to us; when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madina; he commanded them the people to keep fast for three days. Thereafter the Quranic verses with regard to the fasts during Ramadan were revealed. But they were people who were not accustomed to keep fast ; hence the keeping of the fasts was hard for them; so those who could not keep fast would feed an indigent; then the month. MuwataMalik-017-001-35223 | Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafic from Abdullah Ibn Umar that a man cursed his wife in the time of the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and disowned her child. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; separated them and gave the child to the woman. Malik said; Allah the Blessed; the Exalted; said; The testimony of men who accuse their wives but do not have any witnesses except themselves is to testify by Allah four times that he is being truthful; and a fifth time; that the curse of Allah will be upon him; if he should be a liar. She will avoid punishment if she testifies by Allah four times that he is a liar; and a fifth time; that the wrath of Allah shall be upon her; if he should be telling the truth. Surat 24 ayat 6. Malik said; The sunna with us is that those who curse each other are never to be remarried. If the man calls himself a liar; i.e. takes back his accusation ; he is flogged with the hadd-punishment; and the child is given to him; and his wife can never return to him. There is no doubt or dispute about this sunna among us. Malik said; If a man separates from his wife by an irrevocable divorce by which he cannot return to her; and then he denies the paternity of the child she is carrying; whilst she claims that he is the father; and it is possible by the timing; that he be so; he must curse her; and the child is not recognised as his. Malik said; That is what is done among us; and it is what I have heard from the people of knowledge. Malik said that a man who accused his wife after he had divorced her trebly while she was pregnant; and he had at first accepted being the father but then claimed that he had seen her committing adultery before he separated from her; was flogged with the hadd-punishment; and did not curse her. If he denied the paternity of her child after he had divorced her trebly; and he had not previously accepted it; then he cursed her. Malik said; This is what I have heard. Malik said; The slave is in the same position as the free man as regards making accusations and invoking mutual curses lian. He acts in the lian as the free man acts although there is no hadd applied for slandering a female-slave. Malik said; The muslim slave-girl and the christian and jewish free woman also do lian when a free muslim marries one of them and has intercourse with her. That is because Allah - may He be blessed and Exalted; said in His Book; As for those who accuse their wives; and they are their wives. This is what is done among us. Malik said that a man who did the lian with his wife; and then stopped and called himself a liar after one or two oaths and he had not cursed himself in the fifth one; had to be flogged with the hadd-punishment; but they did not have to be separated. Malik said that if a man divorced his wife and then after three months the woman said; I am pregnant; and he denied paternity; then he had to do lian. Malik said that the husband of a female slave who pronounced the lian on her and then bought her; was not to have intercourse with her; even if he owned her. The sunna which had been handed down about a couple who mutually cursed each other in the lian was that they were never to return to each other.
