Hadith PageArabic TextEnglish TranslationBook and Chapter
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1437Narrated Sahl Bin Saad AlSaidi: Uwaimir AlAjlani came to Aasi m Bin Adi and said; If a man found another man with his wife and killed him; would you sentence the husband to death in Qisas; i.e.; equality in punishment ? O Aasi m! Please ask Allah Messenger ﷺ about this matter on my behalf. Aasi m asked the Prophet ﷺ but the Prophet disliked the question and disapproved of it. Aasi m returned and informed Uwaimir that the Prophet disliked that type of question. Uwaimir said; By Allah; I will go personally to the Prophet. Uwaimir came to the Prophet ﷺ when Allah had already revealed Quranic Verses in that respect ; after Aasi m had left the Prophet ﷺ. So the Prophet ﷺ said to Uwaimir; Allah has revealed Quranic Verses regarding you and your wife. The Prophet ﷺ then called for them; and they came and carried out the order of Lian. Then Uwaimir said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Now if I kept her with me; I would be accused of telling a lie. So Uwaimir divorced her although the Prophet ﷺ did not order him to do so. Later on this practice of divorcing became the tradition of couples involved in a case of Lian. The Prophet ﷺ said to the people. Wait for her! If she delivers a red short small child like a Wahra a short red animal. then I will be of the opinion that he Uwaimir has told a lie but if she delivered a black big-eyed one with big buttocks; then I will be of the opinion that he has told the truth about her. Ultimately she gave birth to a child that proved the accusation. By Allah; we shall never replace you in it at all. Then he asked them again; If I ask you something; will you tell me the truth? They replied; Yes. He asked. SahihMuslim-017-001-22104Ubaidullah Bin Abu Rafi; the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; said: When Haruria the Khawarij set out and as he was with Ali Bin Abu Talib Allah be pleased with him they said; There is no command but that of Allah. Upon this Ali said: The statement is true but it is intentionally applied to support a wrong cause. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ described their characteristics and I found these characteristics in them. They state the truth with their tongue; but it does not go beyond this part of their bodies and the narrator pointed towards his throat. The most hateful among the creation of Allah is one black man among them Khawarij. One of his hand is like the teat of a goat or the nipple of the breast. When Ali Bin Abu Talib Allah be pleased with him killed them; he said: Search for his dead body. They searched for him; but they did not find it his dead body. Upon this he said: Go and search for him. By Allah; neither I have spoken a lie nor has the lie been spoken to me. Ali said this twice and thrice. They then found him the dead body in a rain. They brought his dead body till they placed it before him Hadrat Ali. Ubaidullah said: And; I was present at that place when this happened and when Ali said about them. SahihMuslim-017-001-22969Abu Tufail reported: I said to Ibn Abbas Allah be pleased with them : Do you think that walking swiftly round the House in three circuits; and just walking in four circuits is the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ; for your people say that it is Sunnah? Thereupon he Ibn Abbas said: They have told the truth and the lie too. I said: What do your words They have told the truth and the lie too imply? Thereupon he said: Allah Messenger ﷺ came to Mecca and the polytheists said that Muhammad and his Companions had emaciated and would; therefore; be unable to circumambulate the House; and they felt jealous of him the Holy Prophet. It was due to this that Allah Messenger ﷺ commanded them to walk swiftly in three circuits and walk normally in four. I said to him: Inform me if it is Sunnah to observe Tawaf between AlSafa and AlMarwa while riding; for your people look upon it as Sunnah. He Ibn Abbas said: They have told the truth and the lie too. I said: What do your words They have told the truth and the lie too imply? He said: When Allah Messenger ﷺ had come to Mecca; there was such a large gathering of people around him that even the virgins had come out of their houses to catch a glimpse of his face. And they were saying: He is Muhammad; He is Muhammad. Allah Messenger ﷺ was so gentle and kind that the people were not beaten back to make way in front of him. When there was a throng of people around him; he rode the camel. However; walking and trotting are better. The Chapter on The Companions In Makkah in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 39 in Sahih Muslim

SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25550Abu AlTufail said I said to Ibn Abbas Your people think that the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ walked proudly with swift strides while going round the Kabah and that it is sunnah practice of the Prophet. He said They spoke the truth in part and told a lie in part. I asked What truth did they speak and what lie did they tell? He said They spoke the truth that the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ walked proudly while going round the Kabah but they told a lie; this is no sunnah. The Quraish asserted during the days of AlHudaibiyah Forsake Muhammad and his Companions till they die the death of a Camel which dies of bacteria in its nose. When they concluded a treaty with him agreeing upon the fact that they the Prophet and his Companions would come to Makkah next year and stay at Makkah three days; the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said to the Companions Walk proudly moving shoulders while going round the Kabah in first three circuits. Ibn Abbas said But this is not sunnah. I said Your people think that the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ ran between AlSafa and AlMarwah on a Camel and that is sunnah. He said They spoke the truth in part and told a lie in part. I asked What truth did they speak and what lie did they tell? He said they spoke the truth that the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ ran between AlSafa and AlMarwah on a Camel. They told a lie that it is a sunnah. MuwataMalik-017-001-35398Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham Ibn Urwa from his father that Aisha; umm Almuminin said; Rashness in oaths is that a man says; By Allah; No! by Allah! i.e. out of habit. Malik said; The best of what I have heard on the matter is that rashness in oaths is that a man take an oath on something to show that he is certain that it is like he said; only to find that it is other than what he said. This is rashness. Malik said; The binding oath is for example; that a man says that he will not sell his garment for ten dinars; and then he sells it for that; or that he will beat his young slave and then does not beat him; and so on. One does kaffara for making such an oath; and there is no kaffara in rashness. Malik said; As for the one who swears to a thing which he knows is wicked; and he swears to a lie he knows to be a lie; in order to please someone with it or to excuse himself to someone by it or to gain money by it; no kaffara that he does for it can cover it.The Chapter on Oaths And Pledges And Kaffara in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Jihad in Muwata Malik
