SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1079 | Narrated Abu Bakra: The Prophet ﷺ said; Time has come back to its original state which it had when Allah created the Heavens and the Earth; the year is twelve months; of which four are sacred; and out of these four three are in succession; namely; Dh AlQada; Dhu AlHijja and Muharram; and the fourth one Rajab Mudar which is between Jumad Ath-Tham and Shaban. The Prophet ﷺ then asked us; Which month is this? We said; Allah and His Apostle know it better. He kept quiet so long that we thought he might call it by another name. Then he said; Isnt it Dhu AlHijja? We said; Yes. He asked What town is this? We said; Allah and His Apostle know it better. Then he kept quiet so long that we thought he might call it by another name. He then said; Isnt it the forbidden town Mecca ? We said; Yes. He asked; What is the day today? We said; Allah and His Apostle know it better. Then he kept quiet so long that we thought that he might call it by another name. Then he said; Isnt it the Day of AlNahr slaughtering of sacrifices ? We said; Yes. Then he said; Your blood lives ; your properties; the sub narrator Muhammad; said: I think he also said :..and your honor are as sacred to one another like the sanctity of this Day of yours; in this town of yours; in this month of yours. You shall meet your Lord and He will ask you about your deeds. Beware! Dont go astray after me by striking the necks of one another. Lo! It is incumbent upon those who are present to inform it to those who are absent for perhaps the informed one might comprehend it understand it better than some of the present audience. Whenever the sub-narrator Muhammad mentioned that statement; he would say; The Prophet ﷺ said the truth. And then the Prophet ﷺ added; No doubt! Havent I conveyed Allah Message to you! No doubt! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2898 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: For one year I wanted to ask Umar about the two women who helped each other against the Prophet ﷺ but I was afraid of him. One day he dismounted his riding animal and went among the trees of Arak to answer the call of nature; and when he returned; I asked him and he said; They were Aisha and Hafsa. Then he added; We never used to give significance to ladies in the days of the Pre-lslamic period of ignorance; but when Islam came and Allah mentioned their rights; we used to give them their rights but did not allow them to interfere in our affairs. Once there was some dispute between me and my wife and she answered me back in a loud voice. I said to her; Strange! You can retort in this way? She said; Yes. Do you say this to me while your daughter troubles Allah Messenger ﷺ ? So I went to Hafsa and said to her; I warn you not to disobey Allah and His Apostle. I first went to Hafsa and then to Umm Salamah and told her the same. She said to me; O Umar! It surprises me that you interfere in our affairs so much that you would poke your nose even into the affairs of Allah Messenger ﷺ and his wives. So she rejected my advice. There was an Ansari man; whenever he was absent from Allah Messenger ﷺ and I was present there; I used to convey to him what had happened on that day ; and when I was absent and he was present there; he used to convey to me what had happened as regards news from Allah Messenger ﷺ. During that time all the rulers of the nearby lands had surrendered to Allah Messenger ﷺ except the king of Ghassan in Sham; and we were afraid that he might attack us. All of a sudden the Ansari came and said; A great event has happened! I asked him; What is it? Has the Ghassani king come? He said; Greater than that! Allah Messenger ﷺ has divorced his wives! I went to them and found all of them weeping in their dwellings; and the Prophet ﷺ had ascended to an upper room of his. At the door of the room there was a slave to whom I went and said; Ask the permission for me to enter. He admitted me and I entered to see the Prophet ﷺ lying on a mat that had left its imprint on his side. Under his head there was a leather pillow stuffed with palm fires. Behold! There were some hides hanging there and some grass for tanning. Then I mentioned what I had said to Hafsa and Umm Salamah and what reply Umm Salamah had given me. Allah Messenger ﷺ smiled and stayed there for twenty nine days and then came down. A man from the tribe of Bani Taim Allah with red complexion as if he were from the Byzantine war prisoners; was present. Abu Mousa invited him to share the meal but he apologised saying. I saw chickens eating dirty things and so I have had a strong aversion to eating them; and have taken an oath that I will not eat chickens. Abu Mousa said; Come along; I will tell you about this matter i.e. how to cancel one oath. I went to the Prophet ﷺ in the company of a group of AlAshariyin; asked him to provide us with means of conveyance. He said; By Allah; I will not provide you with any means of conveyance and I have nothing to make you ride on. Then some camels as booty were brought to Allah Messenger ﷺ and he asked for us saying. Where are the group of AlAshariyun? Then he ordered that we should be given five camels with white humps. When we set out we said; What have we done? We will never be blessed with what we have been given. So; we returned to the Prophet ﷺ and said; We asked you to provide us with means of conveyance; but you took an oath that you would not provide us with any means of conveyance. Did you forget your oath when you gave us the camels ? He replied. I have not provided you with means of conveyance; but Allah has provided you with it; and by Allah; Allah willing; if ever I take an oath to do something; and later on I find that it is more beneficial to do something different; I will do the thing which is better; and give expiation for my oath. | The Chapter on Oaths And Pledges And Kaffara in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Khumus is to be used for the needs of the Muslims in Sahih AlBukhari | |

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4992 | Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet ﷺ said; An Israeli man asked another Israeli to lend him one thousand Dinars. The second man required witnesses. The former replied; Allah is sufficient as a witness. The second said; I want a surety. The former replied; Allah is sufficient as a surety. The second said; You are right; and lent him the money for a certain period. The debtor went across the sea. When he finished his job; he searched for a conveyance so that he might reach in time for the repayment of the debt; but he could not find any. So; he took a piece of wood and made a hole in it; inserted in it one thousand Dinars and a letter to the lender and then closed i.e. sealed the hole tightly. He took the piece of wood to the sea and said. O Allah! You know well that I took a loan of one thousand Dinars from so-and-so. He demanded a surety from me but I told him that Allah Guarantee was sufficient and he accepted Your guarantee. He then asked for a witness and I told him that Allah was sufficient as a Witness; and he accepted You as a Witness. No doubt; I tried hard to find a conveyance so that I could pay his money but could not find; so I hand over this money to You. Saying that; he threw the piece of wood into the sea till it went out far into it; and then he went away. Meanwhile he started searching for a conveyance in order to reach the creditor country. One day the lender came out of his house to see whether a ship had arrived bringing his money; and all of a sudden he saw the piece of wood in which his money had been deposited. He took it home to use for fire. When he sawed it; he found his money and the letter inside it. Shortly after that; the debtor came bringing one thousand Dinars to him and said; By Allah; I had been trying hard to get a boat so that I could bring you your money; but failed to get one before the one I have come by. The lender asked; Have you sent something to me? The debtor replied; I have told you I could not get a boat other than the one I have come by. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6391 | Narrated AlBara: Allah Messenger ﷺ sent Abdullah Bin Atik and Abdullah Bin Utba with a group of men to Abu Rafi to kill him. They proceeded till they approached his castle; whereupon Abdullah Bin Atik said to them; Wait here ; and in the meantime I will go and see. Abdullah said later on; I played a trick in order to enter the castle. By chance; they lost a donkey of theirs and came out carrying a flaming light to search for it. I was afraid that they would recognize me; so I covered my head and legs and pretended to answer the call to nature. The gatekeeper called; Whoever wants to come in; should come in before I close the gate. So I went in and hid myself in a stall of a donkey near the gate of the castle. They took their supper with Abu Rafi and had a chat till late at night. Then they went back to their homes. When the voices vanished and I no longer detected any movement; I came out. I had seen where the gate-keeper had kept the key of the castle in a hole in the wall. I took it and unlocked the gate of the castle; saying to myself; If these people should notice me; I will run away easily. Then I locked all the doors of their houses from outside while they were inside; and ascended to Abu Rafi by a staircase. I saw the house in complete darkness with its light off; and I could not know where the man was. So I called; O Abu Rafi! He replied; Who is it? I proceeded towards the voice and hit him. He cried loudly but my blow was futile. Then I came to him; pretending to help him; saying with a different tone of my voice; What is wrong with you; O Abu Rafi? He said; Are you not surprised? Woe on your mother! A man has come to me and hit me with a sword! So again I aimed at him and hit him; but the blow proved futile again; and on that Abu Rafi cried loudly and his wife got up. I came again and changed my voice as if I were a helper; and found Abu Rafi lying straight on his back; so I drove the sword into his belly and bent on it till I heard the sound of a bone break. Then I came out; filled with astonishment and went to the staircase to descend; but I fell down from it and got my leg dislocated. I bandaged it and went to my companions limping. I said to them ; Go and tell Allah Messenger ﷺ of this good news; but I will not leave this place till I hear the news of his i.e. Abu Rafis death. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6732 | Narrated Abu Bakra: The Prophet ﷺ said; Time has taken its original shape which it had when Allah created the Heavens and the Earth. The year is of twelve months; four of which are sacred; and out of these four three are in succession; i.e. Dh AlQada; Dhu AlHijja and AlMuharram; and the fourth is Rajab which is named after the Mudar tribe; between the month of Jumaida ath-thania and Shaban. Then the Prophet ﷺ asked; Which is this month? We said; Allah and His Apostle know better. On that the Prophet ﷺ kept quiet so long that we thought that he might name it with another name. Then the Prophet ﷺ said; Isnt it the month of Dhu AlHijja? We replied; Yes. Then he said; Which town is this? We replied; Allah and His Apostle know better. On that he kept quiet so long that we thought that he might name it with another name. Then he said; Isnt it the town of Mecca? We replied; Yes; Then he said; Which day is today? We replied; Allah and His Apostle know better. He kept quiet so long that we thought that he might name it with another name. Then he said; Isnt it the day of AlNahr i.e. sacrifice ? We replied; Yes. He said; So your blood; your properties; The sub-narrator Muhammad said; I think the Prophet ﷺ also said: And your honor.. are sacred to one another like the sanctity of this day of yours; in this city of yours; in this month of yours; and surely; you will meet your Lord; and He will ask you about your deeds. Beware! Do not become infidels after me; cutting the throats of one another. It is incumbent on those who are present to convey this message of mine to those who are absent. May be that some of those to whom it will be conveyed will understand it better than those who have actually heard it. SahihMuslim-017-001-17336 | Abu Bakra reported that in the Farewell Address Allah Apostle ﷺ said: Time has completed a cycle and come to the state of the day when Allah created the heavens and the earth. The year is constituted of twelve months; of which four are sacred; three of them consecutive; viz. Dh AlQada; Dhu AlHijja and Muharram; and also Rajab the month of Mudar which comes between Jumada and Shaban. He the Holy Prophet then said: which month is this? We said Allah and His Messenger know best. He the narrator said: He the Holy Prophet remained silent for some time until we thought that he would give it a name other than that by which it was known. He said: Is it not Dhal-Hijja? We said: Yes. He the Holy Prophet said: Which city is this? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He the Holy Prophety remained silent until we thought that he would give it another name. He the Holy Prophet said: Is it not the Balda the city of Mecca ? We said: Yes. He said: What day is this? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He the Holy Prophet remained silent until we thought that he would give it another name. He said: Is it not the Day of Sacrifice? We said: Allah Messenger. yes. Thereupon he said: Your blood; your property Muhammad; one of the narrators; said: I think; he also said this and your honour are sacred to you like the sacredness of this day of yours; in this city of yours; and in this month of yours. You will soon meet your Lord and He will ask you about your deeds. So do not turn after me unbelievers or misguided ; some of you striking the necks of the others. Behold I let him who is present convey to him who is absent; for many a one whom a message is conveyed has a more retentive memory than one who hears. He again said: Behold! have I not delivered the message to you? SahihMuslim-017-001-20903 | Abu Nawfal reported: I saw the dead body of Abdullah Bin AlZubair hanging on the road of Medina leading to Mecca. The Quraish passed by it and other people too; that Abdullah Bin Umar happened to pass by it. He stood up there and said: May there be peace upon you; Abu Khubaib the Kunya of Hadrat Abdullah Bin AlZubair ; may there be peace upon you Abu Khubaib; may there be peace upon you; Abu Khubaib! By Allah; I used to forbid you from this; by Allah; I used to forbid you from this; by Allah I used to forbid you from this. By Allah; so far as I know; you had been very much devoted to fasting and prayer and you had been paying very much care to cementing the ties of blood. By Allah; the group to which you belong are labelled as a wicked person is indeed a fine group. Then Abdullah Bin Umar went away. The stand Abdullah Bin Umar took in regard to the inhuman treatment meted out to Abdullah Bin AlZubair and his words in that connection were conveyed to AlHajjaj Bin Yousif and as a consequence of that he the body of Abdullah Bin AlZubair was brought down from the stump the scaffold by which it was hanging and thrown into the graves of the Jews. He AlHajjaj sent his messenger to Asma bint Abu Bakr; Abdullah mother. But she refused to come. He again sent the messenger to her with the message that she must come; otherwise he would bring her forcibly catching hold of her hair. But she again refused and said: By Allah; I will not come to you until you send one to me who would drag me by pulling my hair. Thereupon he said: Bring me my shoes. He put on his shoes and walked on quickly swollen with vanity and pride until he came to her and said: How do you find what I have done with the enemy of Allah? She said: I find that you wronged him in this world; whereas he has spoiled your next life. It has been conveyed to me that you used to call him Abdullah Bin AlZubair as the son of one having two belts. By Allah; I am indeed a woman of two belts. One is that with the help of which I used to suspend high the food of Allah Messenger ﷺ and that of Abu Bakr making it out of the reach of animals and; so far as the second belt is concerned; that is the belt which no woman can dispense with. Verily Allah Messenger ﷺ told us that in Thaqif; there would be born a great liar and great murderer. The liar we have seen; and as far as the murderer is concerned; I do not find anyone else besides you. He sent for me or I met him and he the Holy Prophet said: It has been conveyed to me that you observe fast continuously and do not break it and pray during the whole night. Dont do that. for there is share for your eyes; share for your own self; share for your family; so observe fast and break it; pray and sleep and observe fast for one day during the ten days; and there is a reward for you for other nine days besides the tenth day of the fast. I said: Apostle of Allah; I find myself more powerful than this. He said: Then observe the fast of David ﷺ. He Amr said: Apostle of Allah; how did David observe fast? He the Holy Prophet said: He used to fast one day and break it on the other day; and he did not run from the battlefield as he encountered the enemy. He said: Apostle of Allah; who can guarantee this for me will I also encounter the enemy dauntlessly ? Ata; the narrator of the hadith; said: I do not know how there crept in the matter of perpetual fast. His Companions entered upon the state of Ihram whereas he did not; for it was conveyed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that the enemy was hiding at Ghaiqa. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went forward. He Abu Qatada said: Meanwhile I was along with his Companions; some of them smiled to one another As I cast a glance I saw a wild ass. I attacked It with a spear and held it; and begged for their i. e. of his companions assistance; but they refused to help me and we ate its meat. But we were afraid lest we should be separated from the Messenger of Allah. So I proceeded on with a view to seeking the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Some- times Idashed my horse and sometimes I made it run at a leisurely pace keeping pace with others. In the meanwhile I met a person from Banfu Ghifar in the middle of the night. I said to him: Where did you meet the messenger of Allah ﷺ ? He said: I left him at Tabin and he intended to halt at Suqya to spend the afternoon. I met him and said: Messenger of Allah. your Companions convey salutations and benedictions of Allah to you and they fear that they may not be separated from you and the enemy may do harm to you ; so wait for them; and he the Holy Prophet waited for them. When we had finished the prayer; we all went to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said to him: This man recited in a style to which I objected; and the other entered and recited in a style different from that of his companion. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked them to recite and so they recited; and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ expressed approval of their affairs their modes of recitation. and there occurred In my mind a sort of denial which did not occur even during the Days of Ignorance. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw how I was affected by a wrong idea ; he struck my chest; whereupon I broke into sweating and felt as though I were looking at Allah with fear. He the Holy Prophet said to me: Ubay. a message was sent to me to recite the Quran in one dialect; and I replied: Make things easy for my people. It was conveyed to me for the second time that it should be recited in two dialects. I again replied to him: Make affairs easy for my people. It was again conveyed to me for the third time to recite in seven dialects And I was further told : You have got a seeking for every reply that I sent you; which you should seek from Me. SahihMuslim-017-001-23992 | Kuraib; the freed slave of Ibn Abbas; reported that Abdullah Bin Abbas; Abdulrahman Bin Azhar; AlMiswar Bin Makhrama sent him to Aisha; the wife of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; telling him to give her their greetings; and ask her about the two rakahs after the afternoon prayer; for we have heard that you observe them whereas it has been conveyed to us that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited their observance. Ibn Abbas said: I along with Umar Bin AlKhattab dissuaded people to do so to observe two rakahs of prayer. Kuraib said: I went to her Aisha and conveyed to her the message with which I was sent. She said: Better ask Umm Salama. So I went to them those who had sent him to Hadrat Aisha and informed them about what she had said. They sent me back to Umm Salamah with that with which I was sent to Aisha. Umm Salamah said: I beard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibiting them; and then afterwards I saw him observing them. And when he observed them two rakahs he had already observed the Asr prayer. Then he the Holy Prophet came; while there were with me ladies of Banu Haram; a tribe of the Ansar and he the Holy Prophet observed them the two rakahs. I sent a slave-girl to him asking her to stand by his side and say to him that Umm Salamah says: Messenger of Allah; I heard you prohibiting these two rakahs; whereas I saw you observing them; and if he the Holy Prophet points with his hand to wait ; then do wait. The slave-girl did like that. He the Holy Prophet pointed out with his hand and she got Aasi de and waited; and when he had finished the prayer he said: Daughter of Abu Umaya. you have asked about the two rakahs after the Asr prayer.
