Soon will a grievous penalty seize the Unbelievers among them.

When he entered the garden; I sat at its gate and said to myself; To day I will be the gatekeeper of the Prophet though he has not ordered me. The Prophet ﷺ went and finished his need and went to sit on the constructed edge of the well and uncovered his legs and hung them in the well. In the meantime Abu Bakr came and asked permission to enter. I said to him ; Wait till I get you permission. Abu Bakr waited outside and I went to the Prophet ﷺ and said; O Allah Prophet! Abu Bakr asks your permission to enter. He said; Admit him; and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise. So Abu Bakr entered and sat on the right side of the Prophet ﷺ and uncovered his legs and hung them in the well. Then Umar came and I said to him ; Wait till I get you permission. The Prophet ﷺ said; Admit him and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise. So Umar entered and sat on the left side of the Prophet and uncovered his legs and hung them in the well so that one side of the well became fully occupied and there remained no place for any-one to sit. Then Uthman came and I said to him ; Wait till I get permission for you. The Prophet ﷺ said; Admit him and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise with a calamity which will befall him. When he entered; he could not find any place to sit with them so he went to the other edge of the well opposite them and uncovered his legs and hung them in the well. I wished that a brother of mine would come; so I invoked Allah for his coming. Ibn AlMusaiyab said; I interpreted that narration as indicating their graves. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1410Narrated Abu Wail: I sat with Shaiba in this Masjid AlMasjid AlHaram ; and he said; Umar once sat beside me here as you are now sitting; and said; I feel like distributing all the gold and silver that are in it i.e.; the Kaba among the Muslims. I said; You cannot do that. Umar said; Why? I said; Your two previous companions the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr did not do it. Umar said; They are the two persons whom one must follow. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-227Narrated Abdullah Bin Ubaidullah Bin Abi Mulaika: One of the daughters of Uthman died at Mecca. We went to attend her funeral procession. Ibn Umar and Ibn Abbas were also present. I sat in between them or said; I sat beside one of them. Then a man came and sat beside me. Abdullah Bin Umar said to Amr Bin Uthman; Will you not prohibit crying as Allah Messenger ﷺ has said; The dead person is tortured by the crying of his relatives.? Ibn Abbas said; Umar used to say so. Then he added narrating; I accompanied Umar on a journey from Mecca till we reached AlBaida. There he saw some travelers in the shade of a Samura A kind of forest tree. He said to me ; Go and see who those travelers are. So I went and saw that one of them was Suhaib. I told this to Umar who then asked me to call him. So I went back to Suhaib and said to him; Depart and follow the chief of the faithful believers. Later; when Umar was stabbed; Suhaib came in weeping and saying; O my brother; O my friend! on this Umar said to him; O Suhaib! Are you weeping for me while the Prophet ﷺ said; The dead person is punished by some of the weeping of his relatives? Ibn Abbas added; When Umar died I told all this to Aisha and she said; May Allah be merciful to Umar. By Allah; Allah Messenger ﷺ did not say that a believer is punished by the weeping of his relatives. But he said; Allah increases the punishment of a non-believer because of the weeping of his relatives. Aisha further added; The Quran is sufficient for you to clear up this point as Allah has stated: No burdened soul will bear another burden. 35.18. Ibn Abbas then said; Only Allah makes one laugh or cry. Then one day he said; O Aisha do you know that Allah has instructed me concerning the matter I asked Him about? Two men came to me and one of them sat near my head and the other sat near my feet. The one near my head asked the other. What is wrong with this man? The latter replied the is under the effect of magic The first one asked; Who has worked magic on him? The other replied Labid Bin AlAsam; a man from Bani Zuraiq who was an ally of the Jews and was a hypocrite. The first one asked; What material did he use ? The other replied; A comb and the hair stuck to it. The first one asked; Where is that ? The other replied. In a skin of pollen of a male date palm tree kept under a stone in the well of Dharwan So the Prophet ﷺ went to that well and took out those things and said That was the well which was shown to me in a dream Its water looked like the infusion of Henna leaves and its date-palm trees looked like the heads of devils. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2438Narrated Aisha: Magic was worked on Allah Messenger ﷺ so that he began to imagine that he had done something although he had not. One day while he was with me; he invoked Allah and invoked for a long period and then said; O Aisha! Do you know that Allah has instructed me regarding the matter I asked Him about? I asked; What is that; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ? He said; Two men came to me; one of them sat near my head and the other sat near my feet. One of them asked his companion; What is the disease of this man? The other replied; He is under the effect of magic. The first one asked; Who has worked magic on him? The other replied; Labid Bin Asam; a Jew from the tribe of Bani Zuraiq. The first one asked ; With what has it been done? The other replied; With a a comb and the hair stuck to it and a skin of the pollen of a male datepalm tree. The first one asked; Where is it? The other replied; In the well of Dharwan. Then the Prophet ﷺ went along with some of his companions to that well and looked at that and there were date palms near to it. Then he returned to me and said; By Allah the water of that well was red like the infusion of Henna leaves and its date-palms were like the heads of devils I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Did you take those materials out of the pollen skin? He said; No! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-296Narrated Ali: We were accompanying a funeral procession in Baqi-I-Gharqad. The Prophet ﷺ came to us and sat and we sat around him. He had a small stick in his hand then he bent his head and started scraping the ground with it. He then said; There is none among you; and not a created soul; but has place either in Paradise or in Hell assigned for him and it is also determined for him whether he will be among the blessed or wretched. A man said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Should we not depend on what has been written for us and leave the deeds as whoever amongst us is blessed will do the deeds of a blessed person and whoever amongst us will be wretched; will do the deeds of a wretched person? The Prophet said; The good deeds are made easy for the blessed; and bad deeds are made easy for the wretched. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3231Narrated Malik Bin Aus Bin AlHadathan: Once I set out to visit Umar bin AlKhattab. While I was sitting there with him his gate-keeper; Yarfa; came and said; Uthman Abdulrahman bin Auf ; AlZubair and Saad bin Abi Waqqas are seeking permission to meet you. Umar said; Yes. So he admitted them and they entered; greeted; and sat down. After a short while Yarfa came again and said to Umar Shall I admit Ali and Abbas? Umar said; Yes. He admitted them and when they entered; they greeted and sat down. Abbas said; O Chief of the Believers! Judge between me and this Ali. The group; Uthman and his companions Sad; O Chief of the Believers! Judge between them and relieve one from the other. Umar said. Wait! I beseech you by Allah; by Whose permission both the Heaven and the Earth stand fast ! Do you know that Allah Messenger ﷺ said. We Apostles do not bequeath anything to our heirs; but whatever we leave is to be given in charity. And by that Allah Messenger ﷺ s meant himself? The group said; He did say so. Umar then turned towards All and Abbas and said. I beseech you both by Allah; do you know that Allah Messenger ﷺ said that? They said; Yes Umar said; Now; let me talk to you about this matter. Allah favored His Apostle with something of this property war booty which He did not give to anybody else. And Allah said:- And what Allah has bestowed on His Apostle as Fai Booty from them for which you made no expedition with either cavalry or camelry... Allah is Able to do all things. 59.6 So this property was especially granted to Allah Messenger ﷺ. But by Allah he neither withheld it from you; nor did he keep it for himself and deprive you of it; but he gave it all to you and distributed it among you till only this remained out of it. And out of this property Allah Messenger ﷺ used to provide his family with their yearly needs; and whatever remained; he would spend where Allah Property the revenues of Zakat used to be spent. Allah Messenger ﷺ kept on acting like this throughout his lifetime. Now I beseech you by Allah; do you know that? They said; Yes. Then Umar said to Ali and Abbas; I beseech you by Allah; do you both know that? They said; Yes. Umar added; When Allah had taken His Apostle unto Him; Abu Bakr said; I am the successor of Allah Messenger ﷺ. So he took charge of that property and did with it the same what Allah Messenger ﷺ used to do; and both of you knew all about it then. Then Umar turned towards Ali and Abbas and said; You both claim that Abu Bakr was so-and-so! But Allah knows that he was honest; sincere; pious and right in that matter. Then Allah caused Abu Bakr to die; and I said; I am the successor of Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr. So I kept this property in my possession for the first two years of my rule; and I used to do the same with it as Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr used to do. Later both of you Ali and Abbas came to me with the same claim and the same problem. O Abbas! You came to me demanding your share from the inheritance of the son of your brother; and he Ali came to me demanding his wives share from the inheritance of her father. So I said to you; If you wish I will hand over this property to you; on condition that you both promise me before Allah that you will manage it in the same way as Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr did; and as I have done since the beginning of my rule; otherwise you should not speak to me about it. So you both said; Hand over this property to us on this condition. And on this condition I handed it over to you. I beseech you by Allah; did I hand it over to them on that condition? The group said; Yes. Umar then faced Ali and Abbas and said; I beseech you both by Allah; did I hand it over to you both on that condition? They both said; Yes. Umar added; Do you want me now to give a decision other than that? By Him with Whose permission order both the Heaven and the Earth stand fast; I will never give any decision other than that till the Hour is established! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3297Narrated Sahl Bin Sad: A lady came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! I have come to you to offer myself to you. He raised his eyes and looked at her and then lowered his head. When the lady saw that he did not make any decision; she sat down. On that; a man from his companions got up and said. O Allah Apostle! If you are not in need of this woman; then marry her to me. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Do you have anything to offer her? He replied. No; by Allah; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! The Prophet ﷺ said to him; Go to your family and see if you can find something. The man went and returned; saying; No; by Allah; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! I have not found anything. The Prophet ﷺ said; Try to find something; even if it is an iron ring. He went again and returned; saying; No; by Allah; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ; not even an iron ring; but I have this waist sheet of mine. The man had no upper garment; so he intended to give her; half his waist sheet. So Allah Messenger ﷺ said; What would she do with your waist sheet? If you wear it; she will have nothing of it over her body; and if she wears it; you will have nothing over your body. So that man sat for a long period and then got up; and Allah Messenger ﷺ saw him going away; so he ordered somebody to call him. When he came; the Prophet ﷺ asked him; How much of the Quran do you know? He replied; I know such Surat and such Surat and such Surat; and went on counting it; The Prophet ﷺ asked him; Can you recite it by heart? he replied; Yes. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3356Narrated Abu Mousa AlAshari: I performed ablution in my house and then went out and said; Today I shall stick to Allah Messenger ﷺ and stay with him all this day of mine in his service. I went to the Masjid and asked about the Prophet. They said; He had gone in this direction. So I followed his way; asking about him till he entered a place called Bir Aris. I sat at its gate that was made of date-palm leaves till the Prophet ﷺ finished answering the call of nature and performed ablution. Then I went up to him to see him sitting at the well of Aris at the middle of its edge with his legs uncovered; hanging in the well. I greeted him and went back and sat at the gate. I said; Today I will be the gatekeeper of the Prophet. Abu Bakr came and pushed the gate. I asked; Who is it? He said; Abu Bakr. I told him to wait; went in and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Abu Bakr asks for permission to enter. He said; Admit him and give him the glad tidings that he will be in Paradise. So I went out and said to Abu Bakr; Come in; and Allah Messenger ﷺ gives you the glad tidings that you will be in Paradise Abu Bakr entered and sat on the right side of Allah Messenger ﷺ on the built edge of the well and hung his legs n the well as the Prophet ﷺ did and uncovered his legs. I then returned and sat at the gate. I had left my brother performing ablution and he intended to follow me. So I said to myself. If Allah wants good for so-and-so i.e. my brother He will bring him here. Suddenly somebody moved the door. I asked; Who is it? He said; Umar Bin AlKhattab. I asked him to wait; went to Allah Messenger ﷺ ; greeted him and said; Umar Bin AlKhattab asks the permission to enter. He said; Admit him; and give him the glad tidings that he will be in Paradise. I went to Umar and said Come in; and Allah Messenger ﷺ ; gives you the glad tidings that you will be in Paradise. So he entered and sat beside Allah Messenger ﷺ on the built edge of the well on the left side and hung his legs in the well. I returned and sat at the gate and said; to myself ; If Allah wants good for so-and-so; He will bring him here. Somebody came and moved the door. I asked Who is it? He replied; Uthman Bin Affan. I asked him to wait and went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. He said; Admit him; and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise; I asked him to wait and went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. He said; Adult him; and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise after a calamity that will befall him. So I went up to him and said to him; Come in; Allah Apostle gives you the glad tidings of entering Paradise after a calamity that will befall you. Uthman then came in and found that the built edge of the well was occupied; so he sat opposite to the Prophet ﷺ on the other side. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3421Narrated Alqama: I went to Sham and offered a two-rakat prayer and then said; O Allah! Bless me with a good pious companion. So I went to some people and sat with them. An old man came and sat by my side. I asked; Who is he? They replied; He is Abu AlDarda. I said to him ; I prayed to Allah to bless me with a pious companion and He sent you to me. He asked me; From where are you? I replied; From the people of AlKufa. He said; Isnt there amongst you Ibn Um Abd; the one who used to carry the shoes; the cushion or pillow and the water for ablution? Is there amongst you the one whom Allah gave Refuge from Satan through the request of His Prophet. Is there amongst you the one who keeps the secrets of the Prophet ﷺ which nobody knows except him? A man from his companions got up and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! If you are not in need of her; then marry her to me. The Prophet ﷺ said; Have you got anything to offer? The man said; No; by Allah; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! The Prophet ﷺ said to him ; Go to your family and see if you have something. The man went and returned; saying; No; by Allah; I have not found anything. Allah Apostle said; Go again and look for something; even if it is an iron ring. He went again and returned; saying; No; by Allah; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! I could not find even an iron ring; but this is my Izar waist sheet. He had no rida. He added; I give half of it to her. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; What will she do with your Izar? If you wear it; she will be naked; and if she wears it; you will be naked. So that man sat down for a long while and then got up to depart. When Allah Messenger ﷺ saw him going; he ordered that he be called back. When he came; the Prophet ﷺ said; How much of the Quran do you know? He said; I know such Surat and such Sura; counting them. The Prophet ﷺ said; Do you know them by heart? He replied; Yes. The Prophet ﷺ said; What have you got? The man said; I have nothing. The Prophet ﷺ said to him ; Go and search for something even if it were an iron ring. The man went and returned saying; No; I have not found anything; not even an iron ring; but this is my Izar waist sheet; and half of it is for her. He had no Rida upper garment. The Prophet ﷺ said; What will she do with your waist sheet? If you wear it; she will have nothing over her; and if she wears it; you will have nothing over you. So the man sat down and when he had sat a long time; he got up to leave. When the Prophet ﷺ saw him leaving ; he called him back; or the man was called for him ; and he said to the man; How much of the Quran do you know by heart ? SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3579Narrated Ibn Abbas: I had been eager to ask Umar Bin AlKhattab about the two ladies from among the wives of the Prophet regarding whom Allah said If you two wives of the Prophet ﷺ namely Aisha and Hafsa turn in repentance to Allah; your hearts are indeed so inclined to oppose what the Prophet ﷺ likes. 66.4 till Umar performed the Hajj and I too; performed the Hajj along with him. On the way Umar went Aasi de to answer the call of nature; and I also went Aasi de along with him carrying a tumbler full of water; and when Umar had finished answering the call of nature; I poured water over his hands and he performed the ablution. Then I said to him; O chief of the Believers! Who were the two ladies from among the wives of the Prophet ﷺ regarding whom Allah said: If you two wives of the Prophet turn in repentance to Allah your hearts are indeed so inclined to oppose what the Prophet ﷺ likes ? 66.4 He said; I am astonished at your question; O Ibn Abbas. They were Aisha and Hafsa. Then Umar went on narrating the Hadith and said; I and an Ansari neighbor of mine from Bani Umaiya Bin Zaid who used to live in Awali AlMedina; used to visit the Prophet ﷺ in turn. He used to go one day and I another day. When I went; I would bring him the news of what had happened that day regarding the Divine Inspiration and other things; and when he went; he used to do the same for me. We; the people of Quraish used to have the upper hand over our wives; but when we came to the Ansar; we found that their women had the upper hand over their men; so our women also started learning the ways of the Ansari women. I shouted at my wife and she retorted against me and I disliked that she should answer me back. She said to me; Why are you so surprised at my answering you back? By Allah; the wives of the Prophet answer him back and some of them may leave does not speak to him throughout the day till the night. The talk scared me and I said to her; Whoever has done so will be ruined! Then I proceeded after dressing myself; and entered upon Hafsa and said to her; Does anyone of you keep the Prophet ﷺ angry till night? She said; Yes. I said; You are a ruined losing person! Dont you fear that Allah may get angry for the anger of Allah Messenger ﷺ and thus you will be ruined? So do not ask more from the Prophet ﷺ and do not answer him back and do not give up talking to him. Ask me whatever you need and do not be tempted to imitate your neighbor i.e.; Aisha in her manners for she is more charming than you and more beloved to the Prophet ﷺ. Umar added;At that time a talk was circulating among us that the tribe of Ghassan were preparing their horses to invade us. My Ansari companion; on the day of his turn; went to the town and returned to us at night and knocked at my door violently and asked if I was there. I became horrified and came out to him. He said; Today a great thing has happened. I asked; What is it? Have the people of Ghassan come? He said; No; but What has happened is greater and more horrifying than that: Allah Messenger ﷺ ; has divorced his wives. Umar added; The Prophet ﷺ kept away from his wives and I said Hafsa is a ruined loser. I had already thought that most probably this divorce would happen in the near future. So I dressed myself and offered the morning prayer with the Prophet ﷺ and then the Prophet; entered an upper room and stayed there in seclusion. I entered upon Hafsa and saw her weeping. I asked; What makes you weep? Did I not warn you about that? Did the Prophet ﷺ divorce you all? She said; I do not know. There he is retired alone in the upper room. I came out and sat near the pulpit and saw a group of people sitting around it and some of them were weeping. I sat with them for a while but could not endure the situation; so I went to the upper room where the Prophet; was and said to a black slave of his; Will you get the permission of the Prophet ﷺ for Umar to enter ? The slave went in; talked to the Prophet ﷺ about it and then returned saying; I have spoken to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned you but he kept quiet. Then I returned and sat with the group of people sitting near the pulpit. but I could not bear the situation and once again I said to the slave; Will you get the permission for Umar? He went in and returned saying; I mentioned you to him but he kept quiet. So I returned again and sat with the group of people sitting near the pulpit; but I could not bear the situation; and so I went to the slave and said; Will you get the permission for Umar? He went in and returned to me saying; I mentioned you to him but he kept quiet. When I was leaving; behold! The slave called me; saying; The Prophet ﷺ has given you permission. Then I entered upon Allah Messenger ﷺ and saw him Lying on a bed made of stalks of date palm leaves and there was no bedding between it and him. The stalks left marks on his side and he was leaning on a leather pillow stuffed with date-palm fires. I greeted him and while still standing I said; O Allah Apostle! Have you divorced your wives? He looked at me and said; No. I said; Allah Akbar! And then; while still standing; I said chatting; Will you heed what I say; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ? We; the people of Quraish used to have power over our women; but when we arrived at Medina we found that the men here were overpowered by their women. The Prophet ﷺ smiled and then I said to him; Will you heed what I say; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ? I entered upon Hafsa and said to her; Do not be tempted to imitate your companion Aisha ; for she is more charming than you and more beloved to the Prophet. The Prophet ﷺ smiled for a second time. When I saw him smiling; I sat down. Then I looked around his house; and by Allah; I could not see anything of importance in his house except three hides; so I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Invoke Allah to make your followers rich; for the Persians and the Romans have been made prosperous and they have been given the pleasures of the world ; although they do not worship Allah. Thereupon the Prophet ﷺ sat up as he was reclining. and said; Are you of such an opinion; O the son of AlKhattab? These are the people who have received the rewards for their good deeds in this world. I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Ask Allah to forgive me. Then the Prophet ﷺ kept away from his wives for twenty-nine days because of the story which Hafsa had disclosed to Aisha. The Prophet ﷺ had said; I will not enter upon them my wives for one month; because of his anger towards them; when Allah had admonished him. So; when twenty nine days had passed; the Prophet ﷺ first entered upon Aisha. Aisha said to him; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! You had sworn that you would not enter upon us for one month; but now only twenty-nine days have passed; for I have been counting them one by one. The Prophet ﷺ said; The present month is of twenty nine days. Aisha added; Then Allah revealed the Verses of the option. 2 And out of all his-wives he asked me first; and I chose him. Then he gave option to his other wives and they said what Aisha had said. 1 The Prophet; had decided to abstain from eating a certain kind of food because of a certain event; so Allah blamed him for doing so. Some of his wives were the cause of him taking that decision; therefore he deserted them for one month. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4041Narrated Abu Qatada: We set out in the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ on the day of the battle of Hunain. When we faced the enemy; the Muslims retreated and I saw a pagan throwing himself over a Muslim. I turned around and came upon him from behind and hit him on the shoulder with the sword He i.e. the pagan came towards me and seized me so violently that I felt as if it were death itself; but death overtook him and he released me. I followed Umar Bin AlKhattab and asked him ; What is wrong with the people fleeing ? He replied; This is the Will of Allah; After the people returned; the Prophet ﷺ sat and said; Anyone who has killed an enemy and has a proof of that; will posses his spoils. I got up and said; Who will be a witness for me? and then sat down. The Prophet ﷺ again said; Anyone who has killed an enemy and has proof of that; will possess his spoils. I again got up and said; Who will be a witness for me? and sat down. Then the Prophet ﷺ said the same for the third time. I again got up; and Allah Messenger ﷺ said; O Abu Qatada! What is your story? Then I narrated the whole story to him. A man got up and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He is speaking the truth; and the spoils of the killed man are with me. So please compensate him on my behalf. On that Abu Bakr AlSiddiq said; No; by Allah; he i.e. Allah Messenger ﷺ will not agree to give you the spoils gained by one of Allah Lions who fights on the behalf of Allah and His Apostle. The Prophet ﷺ said; Abu Bakr has spoken the truth. So; Allah Messenger ﷺ gave the spoils to me. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4432Narrated Aisha: the wife of the Prophet Whenever Allah Messenger ﷺ intended to go on a journey; he would draw lots amongst his wives and would take with him the one upon whom the lot fell. During a Ghazwa of his; he drew lots amongst us and the lot fell upon me; and I proceeded with him after Allah had decreed the use of the veil by women. I was carried in a Howdah on the camel and dismounted while still in it. When Allah Messenger ﷺ was through with his Ghazwa and returned home; and we approached the city of Medina; Allah Messenger ﷺ ordered us to proceed at night. When the order of setting off was given; I walked till I was past the army to answer the call of nature. After finishing I returned to the camp to depart with the others and suddenly realized that my necklace over my chest was missing. So; I returned to look for it and was delayed because of that. The people who used to carry me on the camel; came to my Howdah and put it on the back of the camel; thinking that I was in it; as; at that time; women were light in weight; and thin and lean; and did not use to eat much. So; those people did not feel the difference in the heaviness of the Howdah while lifting it; and they put it over the camel. At that time I was a young lady. They set the camel moving and proceeded on. I found my necklace after the army had gone; and came to their camp to find nobody. So; I went to the place where I used to stay; thinking that they would discover my absence and come back in my search. While in that state; I felt sleepy and slept. Safwan Bin Muattal AlSulami AlDhakwani was behind the army and reached my abode in the morning. When he saw a sleeping person; he came to me; and he used to see me before veiling. So; I got up when I heard him saying; Inna lil-lah-wa inn a ilaihi rajiun We are for Allah; and we will return to Him. He made his camel knell down. He got down from his camel; and put his leg on the front legs of the camel and then I rode and sat over it. Safwan set out walking; leading the camel by the rope till we reached the army who had halted to take rest at midday. Then whoever was meant for destruction; fell into destruction; some people accused me falsely and the leader of the false accusers was Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul. After that we returned to Medina; and I became ill for one month while the people were spreading the forged statements of the false accusers. I was feeling during my ailment as if I were not receiving the usual kindness from the Prophet ﷺ which I used to receive from him when I got sick. But he would come; greet and say; How is that girl ? I did not know anything of what was going on till I recovered from my ailment and went out with Um Mistah to the Manasi where we used to answer the call of nature; and we used not to go to answer the call of nature except from night to night and that was before we had lavatories near to our houses. And this habit of ours was similar to the habit of the old Arabs in the open country or away from houses. So. I and Um Mistah bint Ruhm went out walking. Um Mistah stumbled because of her long dress and on that she said; Let Mistah be ruined. I said; You are saying a bad word. Why are you abusing a man who took part in the battle of Badr? She said; O Hanata you there didnt you hear what they said? Then she told me the rumors of the false accusers. My sickness was aggravated; and when I returned home; Allah Messenger ﷺ came to me; and after greeting he said; How is that girl ? I requested him to allow me to go to my parents. I wanted then to be sure of the news through them I Allah Messenger ﷺ allowed me; and I went to my parents and asked my mother; What are the people talking about? She said; O my daughter! Dont worry much about this matter. By Allah; never is there a charming woman loved by her husband who has other wives; but the women would forge false news about her. I said; Glorified be Allah! Are the people really taking of this matter? That night I kept on weeping and could not sleep till morning. In the morning Allah Messenger ﷺ called Ali Bin Abu Talib and Usama Bin Zaid when he saw the Divine Inspiration delayed; to consul them about divorcing his wife i.e. Aisha. Usama Bin Zaid said what he knew of the good reputation of his wives and added; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Keep you wife; for; by Allah; we know nothing about her but good. Ali Bin Abu Talib said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Allah has no imposed restrictions on you; and there are many women other than she; yet you may ask the woman-servant who will tell you the truth. On that Allah Messenger ﷺ called Buraira and said; O Burair. Did you ever see anything which roused your suspicions about her? Buraira said; No; by Allah Who has sent you with the Truth; I have never seen in her anything faulty except that she is a girl of immature age; who sometimes sleeps and leaves the dough for the goats to eat. On that day Allah Messenger ﷺ ascended the pulpit and requested that somebody support him in punishing Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul. Allah Apostle said; Who will support me to punish that person Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul who has hurt me by slandering the reputation of my family? By Allah; I know nothing about my family but good; and they have accused a person about whom I know nothing except good; and he never entered my house except in my company. Saad Bin Muadh got up and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! by Allah; I will relieve you from him. If that man is from the tribe of the Aus; then we will chop his head off; and if he is from our brothers; the Khazraj; then order us; and we will fulfill your order. On that Saad Bin Ubada; the chief of the Khazraj and before this incident; he had been a pious man; got up; motivated by his zeal for his tribe and said; By Allah; you have told a lie; you cannot kill him; and you will never be able to kill him. On that Usaid Bin AlHadir got up and said to Saad Bin Ubada ; By Allah! you are a liar. By Allah; we will kill him; and you are a hypocrite; defending the hypocrites. On this the two tribes of Aus and Khazraj got excited and were about to fight each other; while Allah Messenger ﷺ was standing on the pulpit. He got down and quieted them till they became silent and he kept quiet. On that day I kept on weeping so much so that neither did my tears stop; nor could I sleep. In the morning my parents were with me and I had wept for two nights and a day; till I thought my liver would burst from weeping. While they were sitting with me and I was weeping; an Ansari woman asked my permission to enter; and I allowed her to come in. She sat down and started weeping with me. While we were in this state; Allah Messenger ﷺ came and sat down and he had never sat with me since the day they forged the accusation. No revelation regarding my case came to him for a month. He recited Tashah-hud i.e. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is His Apostle and then said; O Aisha! I have been informed such-and-such about you; if you are innocent; then Allah will soon reveal your innocence; and if you have committed a sin; then repent to Allah and ask Him to forgive you; for when a person confesses his sin and asks Allah for forgiveness; Allah accepts his repentance. When Allah Messenger ﷺ finished his speech my tears ceased completely and there remained not even a single drop of it. I requested my father to reply to Allah Messenger ﷺ on my behalf. My father said; By Allah; I do not know what to say to Allah Messenger ﷺ. I said to my mother; Talk to Allah Messenger ﷺ on my behalf. She said; By Allah; I do not know what to say to Allah Apostle. I was a young girl and did not have much knowledge of the Quran. I said. I know; by Allah; that you have listened to what people are saying and that has been planted in your minds and you have taken it as a truth. Now; if I told you that I am innocent and Allah knows that I am innocent; you would not believe me and if I confessed to you falsely that I am guilty; and Allah knows that I am innocent you would believe me. By Allah; I dont compare my situation with you except to the situation of Joseph father i.e. Jacob who said; So for me patience is most fitting against that which you assert and it is Allah Alone whose help can be sought. Then I turned to the other side of my bed hoping that Allah would prove my innocence. By Allah I never thought that Allah would reveal Divine Inspiration in my case; as I considered myself too inferior to be talked of in the Holy Quran. I had hoped that Allah Messenger ﷺ might have a dream in which Allah would prove my innocence. By Allah; Allah Apostle had not got up and nobody had left the house before the Divine Inspiration came to Allah Apostle. So; there overtook him the same state which used to overtake him; when he used to have; on being inspired divinely. He was sweating so much so that the drops of the sweat were dropping like pearls though it was a cold wintry day. When that state of Allah Messenger ﷺ was over; he was smiling and the first word he said; Aisha! Thank Allah; for Allah has declared your innocence. My mother told me to go to Allah Messenger ﷺ. I replied; By Allah I will not go to him and will not thank but Allah. So Allah revealed: Verily! They who spread the slander are a gang among you... 24.11 When Allah gave the declaration of my Innocence; Abu Bakr; who used to provide for Mistah Bin Uthatha for he was his relative; said; By Allah; I will never provide Mistah with anything because of what he said about Aisha. But Allah later revealed: - And let not those who are good and wealthy among you swear not to help their kinsmen; those in need and those who left their homes in Allah Cause. Let them forgive and overlook. Do you not wish that Allah should forgive you? Verily! Allah is Oft-forgiving; Most Merciful. 24.22 After that Abu Bakr said; Yes ! By Allah! I like that Allah should forgive me; and resumed helping Mistah whom he used to help before. Allah Messenger ﷺ also asked Zainab bint Jahsh i.e. the Prophet wife about me saying; What do you know and what did you see? She replied; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! I refrain to claim hearing or seeing what I have not heard or seen. By Allah; I know nothing except goodness about Aisha. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-5115Narrated Abdullah Bin Abbas: I had been eager to ask Umar about the two ladies from among the wives of the Prophet ﷺ regarding whom Allah said in the Quran saying : If you two wives of the Prophet ﷺ namely Aisha and Hafsa turn in repentance to Allah your hearts are indeed so inclined to oppose what the Prophet ﷺ likes 66.4 ; till performed the Hajj along with Umar and on our way back from Hajj he went Aasi de to answer the call of nature and I also went Aasi de along with him carrying a tumbler of water. When he had answered the call of nature and returned. I poured water on his hands from the tumbler and he performed ablution. I said; O Chief of the believers! Who were the two ladies from among the wives of the Prophet ﷺ to whom Allah said: If you two return in repentance 66.4 ? He said; I am astonished at your question; O Ibn Abbas. They were Aisha and Hafsa. Then Umar went on relating the narration and said. I and an Ansari neighbor of mine from Bani Umaiya Bin Zaid who used to live in Awali AlMedina; used to visit the Prophet ﷺ in turns. He used to go one day; and I another day. When I went I would bring him the news of what had happened that day regarding the instructions and orders and when he went; he used to do the same for me. We; the people of Quraish; used to have authority over women; but when we came to live with the Ansar; we noticed that the Ansari women had the upper hand over their men; so our women started acquiring the habits of the Ansari women. Once I shouted at my wife and she paid me back in my coin and I disliked that she should answer me back. She said; Why do you take it ill that I retort upon you? By Allah; the wives of the Prophet ﷺ retort upon him; and some of them may not speak with him for the whole day till night. What she said scared me and I said to her; Whoever amongst them does so; will be a great loser. Then I dressed myself and went to Hafsa and asked her; Does any of you keep Allah Messenger ﷺ angry all the day long till night? She replied in the affirmative. I said; She is a ruined losing person and will never have success ! Doesnt she fear that Allah may get angry for the anger of Allah Messenger ﷺ and thus she will be ruined? Dont ask Allah Messenger ﷺ too many things; and dont retort upon him in any case; and dont desert him. Demand from me whatever you like; and dont be tempted to imitate your neighbor i.e. Aisha in her behavior towards the Prophet ; for she i.e. Aisha is more beautiful than you; and more beloved to Allah Messenger ﷺ. In those days it was rumored that Ghassan; a tribe living in Sham was getting prepared their horses to invade us. My companion went to the Prophet ﷺ on the day of his turn; went and returned to us at night and knocked at my door violently; asking whether I was sleeping. I was scared by the hard knocking and came out to him. He said that a great thing had happened. I asked him: What is it? Have Ghassan come? He replied that it was worse and more serious than that; and added that Allah Apostle had divorced all his wives. I said; Hafsa is a ruined loser! I expected that would happen some day. So I dressed myself and offered the Fajr prayer with the Prophet. Then the Prophet ﷺ entered an upper room and stayed there alone. I went to Hafsa and found her weeping. I asked her; Why are you weeping? Didnt I warn you? Have Allah Messenger ﷺ divorced you all? She replied; I dont know. He is there in the upper room. I then went out and came to the pulpit and found a group of people around it and some of them were weeping. Then I sat with them for some time; but could not endure the situation. So I went to the upper room where the Prophet ﷺ was and requested to a black slave of his: Will you get the permission of Allah Apostle for Umar to enter ? So; I entered upon the Prophet and saw him lying on a mat without wedding on it; and the mat had left its mark on the body of the Prophet; and he was leaning on a leather pillow stuffed with palm fires. I greeted him and while still standing; I said: Have you divorced your wives? He raised his eyes to me and replied in the negative. And then while still standing; I said chatting: Will you heed what I say; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! We; the people of Quraish used to have the upper hand over our women wives ; and when we came to the people whose women had the upper hand over them... Umar told the whole story about his wife. On that the Prophet ﷺ smiled. Umar further said; I then said; I went to Hafsa and said to her: Do not be tempted to imitate your companion Aisha for she is more beautiful than you and more beloved to the Prophet. The Prophet ﷺ smiled again. When I saw him smiling; I sat down and cast a glance at the room; and by Allah; I couldnt see anything of importance but three hides. I said to Allah Messenger ﷺ Invoke Allah to make your followers prosperous for the Persians and the Byzantines have been made prosperous and given worldly luxuries; though they do not worship Allah? The Prophet ﷺ was leaning then and on hearing my speech he sat straight and said; O Ibn AlKhattab! Do you have any doubt that the Hereafter is better than this world ? These people have been given rewards of their good deeds in this world only. I asked the Prophet ﷺ. Please ask Allah forgiveness for me. The Prophet ﷺ did not go to his wives because of the secret which Hafsa had disclosed to Aisha; and he said that he would not go to his wives for one month as he was angry with them when Allah admonished him for his oath that he would not approach Maria. When twenty-nine days had passed; the Prophet ﷺ went to Aisha first of all. She said to him; You took an oath that you would not come to us for one month; and today only twenty-nine days have passed; as I have been counting them day by day. The Prophet ﷺ said; The month is also of twenty-nine days. That month consisted of twenty-nine days. Aisha said; When the Divine revelation of Choice was revealed; the Prophet ﷺ started with me; saying to me; I am telling you something; but you need not hurry to give the reply till you can consult your parents. Aisha knew that her parents would not advise her to part with the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah had said: O Prophet! Say To your wives; If you desire The life of this world And its glitter;... then come! I will make a provision for you and set you free In a handsome manner. But if you seek Allah And His Apostle; and The Home of the Hereafter; then Verily; Allah has prepared For the good-doers amongst you A great reward. 33.28 Aisha said; Am I to consult my parents about this? I indeed prefer Allah; His Apostle; and the Home of the Hereafter. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-5910Narrated AlAhnaf Bin Qais: While I was sitting with some people from Quraish; a man with very rough hair; clothes; and appearance came and stood in front of us; greeted us and said; Inform those who hoard wealth; that a stone will be heated in the Hell-fire and will be put on the nipples of their breasts till it comes out from the bones of their shoulders and then put on the bones of their shoulders till it comes through the nipples of their breasts the stone will be moving and hitting. After saying that; the person retreated and sat by the side of the pillar; I followed him and sat beside him; and I did not know who he was. I said to him; I think the people disliked what you had said. He said; These people do not understand anything; although my friend told me. I asked; Who is your friend? He said; The Prophet ﷺ said to me ; O Abu Dhar! Do you see the mountain of Uhud? And on that I Abu Dhar started looking towards the sun to judge how much remained of the day as I thought that Allah Messenger ﷺ wanted to send me to do something for him and I said; Yes! He said; I do not love to have gold equal to the mountain of Uhud unless I spend it all in Allah cause except three Dinars pounds. These people do not understand and collect worldly wealth. SahihMuslim-017-001-18031Abu Qatada reported: We accompanied the Messenger of Allah my ﷺ on an expedition in the year of the Battle of Hunain. When we encountered the enemy; some of the Muslims turned back in fear. I saw that a man from the polytheists overpowered one of the Muslims. I turned round and attacked him from behind giving a blow between his neck and shoulder. He turned towards me and grappled with me in such a way that I began to see death staring me in the face. Then death overtook him and left me alone. I joined Umar Bin AlKhattab who was saying: What has happened to the people that they are retreating ? I said: It is the Decree of Allah. Then the people returned. The battle ended in a victory for the Muslims and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down to distribute the spoils of war. He said: One who has killed an enemy and can bring evidence to prove it will get his belongings. So I stood up and said: Who will give evidence for me? Then I sat down. Then he the Holy Prophet said like this. I stood up again and said: Who will bear witness for me? He the Holy Prophet made the same observation the third time; and I stood up once again. Now the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What has happened to you; O Abu Qatada? Then I related the whole story; to him. At this; one of the people said: He has told the truth. Messenger of Allah 1 The belongings of the enemy killed by him are with me. Persuade him to forgo his right in my favour. Objecting to this proposal Abu Bakr said: BY Allah; this will not happen. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ will not like to deprive one of the lions from among the lions of Allah who fight in the cause of Allah and His Messenger and give thee his share of the booty. So the Messenger of Allah may peace he upon him said: He Abu Bakr has told the truth; and so give the belongings to him Abu Qatada. So he gave them to me. I sold the armour which was a part of my share of the booty and bought with the sale proceeds a garden in the street of Banu Salama. This was the first property I acquired after embracing Islam. In a version of the hadith narrated by Laith; the words uttered by Abu Bakr are: No; never! He will not give it to a fox from the Quraish leaving Aasi de a lion from the lions of Allah among.... SahihMuslim-017-001-20231Aisha reported: that a Jew from among the Jews of Banu Zuraiq who was called Labid Bin AlAsam cast a spell upon Allah Messenger ﷺ with the result that he under the influence of the spell felt that he had been doing something whereas in fact he had not been doing that. This state of affairs lasted until one day or during one night Allah Messenger ﷺ made supplication to dispel its effects. He again made a supplication and he again did this and said to Aisha: Do you know that Allah has told me what I had asked Him? There came to me two men and one amongst them sat near my head and the other one near my feet and he who sat near my head said to one who sat near my feet or one who sat near my feet said to one who sat near my head: What is the trouble with the man? He said: The spell has affected him. He said: Who has cast that? He the other one said: It was Labid Bin Asam who has done it. He said: What is the thing by which he transmitted its effect? He said: By the comb and by the hair stuck to the comb and the spathe of the date-palm. He said: Where is that? He replied: In the well of Dhi Arwan. She said: Allah Messenger ﷺ sent some of the persons from among his Companions there and then said: Aisha; by Allah; its water was yellow like henna and its trees were like heads of the devils. She said that she asked Allah Messenger ﷺ as to why he did not burn that. SahihMuslim-017-001-20364Abu AlSaib; the freed slaved of Hisham Bin Zuhra; said that he visited Abu Saeed Khudri in his house; and he further said: I found him saying his prayer; so I sat down waiting for him to finish his prayer when I heard a stir in the bundles of wood lying in a comer of the house. I looked towards it and found a snake. I jumped up in order to kill it; but he Abu Saeed Khudri made a gesture that I should sit down. So I sat down and as he finished the prayer he pointed to a room in the house and said: Do you see this room? I said: Yes. He said: There was a young man amongst us who had been newly wedded. We went with Allah Messenger ﷺ to participate in the Battle of Trench when a young man in the midday used to seek permission from Allah Messenger ﷺ to return to his family. One day he sought permission from him and Allah Messenger ﷺ after granting him the permission said to him: Carry your weapons with you for I fear the tribe of Quraidha may harm you. The man carried the weapons and then came back and found his wife standing between the two doors. He bent towards her smitten by jealousy and made a dash towards her with a spear in order to stab her. She said: Keep your spear away and enter the house until you see that which has made me come out. He entered and found a big snake coiled on the bedding. He darted with the spear and pierced it and then went out having fixed it in the house; but the snake quivered and attacked him and no one knew which of them died first; the snake or the young man. We came to Allah Apostle ﷺ and made a mention to him and said: Supplicate to Allah that that man may be brought back to life. And as we were going along a path; Umar Allah be pleased with hiyn went Aasi de and I also went Aasi de with him with a jug of water. He answered the call of nature; and then came to me and I poured water over his hands and he performed ablution I said: Commander of the Faithful; who are the two ladies amongst the wives of Allah Prophet ﷺ about whom Allah; the Exalted and Majestic; said: If you both turn to Allah in repentance; then indeed your heart are inclined to it? Umar Allah he pleased with him said: How strange is it for you; Ibn Abbas! Zuhri said: By Allah; he disliked what he asked about; but did not keep it a secret. He Umar said: They are Hafsa and Aisha; and he then began to narrate the hadith and said: We were such people among the Quraish who dominated women; and as we reached Medina we found there people who were dominated by their women; and our women began to learn the habits of their women. He further said: And my house was situated in the suburb of Aledina in the tribe of Banu Umaya Bin Zaid. One day I became angry with my wife and she retorted upon me. I did not like that she should retort upon me. She said: You disapprove of my retorting upon you By Allah; the wives of Allah Apostle ﷺ retort upon him; and one of them detaches herself from him for the day until the night. So I Umar went out and visited Hafsa and said: Do you retort upon Allah Messenger ﷺ ? She said: Yes. I said; Does any one of you detach herself from him from the day to the night? She said: Yes. He said: She who did like it amongst you in fact failed and incurred loss. Does everyone amongst you not fear the wrath of Allah upon her due to the wrath of His Messenger ﷺ ; and as a result thereof she may perish? So do not retort upon Allah Messenger ﷺ and do not ask him for anything; but ask me that which you desire; and the frank behaviour of your companion may not mislead you; if she is more graceful and is dearer to Allah Messenger ﷺ than you meaning Aisha Allah be pleased with her. He Hadrat Umar further said: I had a compalaion from the Ansar and; we used to remain in the company of the Messenger ﷺ turn by turn. He remained there for a day while I remained there on the other day; and he brought me the news about the revelation and other matter ; and I brought him the news like this. And we discussed that the Ghassanids were shoeing the horses in order to attack us. Id y companion once attended the Apostle. and then came to me at night and knocked at my door and called me; and I came out to him; and he said: A matter of great importance has happened. I said: What is that? Have the Ghassanids come? He said: No; but even more serious and more significant than that: the Prophet ﷺ has divorced his wives. I said: Hafsa has failed and has incurred loss. and I feared that it would happen. When it was dawn I observed the dawn prayer and dressed myself; and then came there in the house of the Holy Prophet and visited Hafsa; and she was weeping. I said: Has Allah Messenger ﷺ divorced you all ? She said: I do not know. He has; however; separated himself in his attic. I came to a black servant and said to him: Seek permission for Umar. He went in and then came to me and said: I made mention of you to him; but he kept quiet. I then went to the pulpit and sat there; and there was a group of people sitting by it and some of then were weeping. I sat there for some time; until I was overpowered by that very idea which was in my mind. I then came back to the boy and said to him: Seek permission for Umar. He went in and came to me and said: I made mention of you to him but he kept quiet. I was about to turn back when the boy called me and said: Go in; permission has been granted to you. I went in and greeted Allah Messenger ﷺ and he was reclining against the couch of mat and it had left its marks upon his side. I said: Messenger of Allah; have you divorced your wives? He raised his head towards me and said: No. I said: Allah is the Greatest. Messenger of Allah; I wish if you had seen how we the people of Quraish had domination over women but when we came to Medina we found people whom their women dominated. So our women began to learn from their women. One dily I became angry with my wife and she began to retort upon me. I did not approve that she should retort upon me. She said: You do not like that I should retort upon you; but; by Allah. the wives of Allah Apostle ﷺ retort upon him and any one of them separates herself from him for a day until night. I said: He who did that amongst them in fact failed and incurred loss. Does any of them feel sate from the wrath of Allahupon her due to the wrath of Allah Messenger ﷺ ; and she has certainly perished. Allah Messtnger ﷺ smiled; I said: Messenger of Allah; I visited Hafsa and said: The behaviour of your companion Aisha may not mislead you; If she is more graceful than you and is dearer to Allah Messenger ﷺ than you. Allah Messenger ﷺ smiled for the second time. I said: Allah Messenger; way I talk to you about agreeable things? He said: Yes. I sat down and lifted my head to see things in the house and; by Allah; I did not see anything significant besides three hides. I said: Messenger of Allah; supplicate the Lord that He should make life prosperous for your Ummah as He has made plentiful for the people of Persia and Rome in spite of the fact that they do no; worship Allah; the Exalted and Majestic; whereupon he Allah Messenger sat up an I then said: Ibn AlKhattab; do you doubt that they are a nation whom their nice things have been given immediately in the life of this world. I said: Allah Messenger! seek pardon for me. And he Allah Messenger had taken an oath that he would not visit them for a month due to extreme annoyance with them until Allah showed His displeasure to him Allah Messenger. Zuhri said: Urwa informed me that AIsha Allah be pleased with her said: When twenty-nine nights were over; Allah Messenger ﷺ visited me; and he began his visit with me. I said: Messenger of Allah; you had taken an oath that you would not visit us for a month; while you have visited after I have counted only twenty-nine nights. Thereupon he said: The month may also be of twenty-nine days. He then said: Aisha; I am going to talk to you about a matter; and you should not be hasty in it and do not give your final decision until you have consulted your parents. He then recited this verse to me: O Prophet; say to your wives till he reached mighty reward xxxiii. 28. Aisha Allah be pleased with her said: By Allah; he knew that my parents would not allow me to separate from him. I said: Is there any need to consult my parents in this matter? I in fact choose Allah and His Messenger ﷺ and the abode in the Hereafter. Mamar said: Ayoub reported to me that Aisha said: Dont inform your wives that I have chosen you; whereupon Allah Apostle ﷺ said: Verily Allah has sent me as a conveyer of message; and He has not sent me as a source of hardship to others. He went and returned and said: No; by Allah; not even an iron ring; but only this lower garment of mine Sahl said that he had no upper garment ; half of which I am prepared to part with for her. Thereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: How can your lower garment serve your purpose; for it you wear it; she would not be able to make any use of it and if she wears it there would not be anything on you? The man sat down and as the sitting prolonged he stood up in disappointment and as he was going back Allah Messenger ﷺ commanded him to be called back; and as he came; he said to him: Do you know any part of the Quran? He said: I know such and such surahs and he counted them ; whereupon he ﷺ said: Can you recite them from heart from your memory ? SahihMuslim-017-001-21671Anas Bin Malik Allah be pleased with him reported: When Allah Apostle ﷺ married Zainab bint jahsh; he invited people to the wedding feast and they ate food. They then sat there and entered into conversation. He the Holy Prophet made a stir as if he was preparing to stand up; but the persons busy in talking did not stand up. When he the Holy Prophet saw it; he stood up and when he did so; some other persons stood up. SahihMuslim-017-001-21758Abdullah Bin Abu Mulaika said: The daughter of Uthman Bin Affan died in Mecca. We came to attend her funeral. Ibn Umar and Ibn Abbas were also present there; and I was sitting between them. He added: I first sat by the side of one of them; then the other one came and he sat by my side. Abdullah Bin Umar said to Amr Bin Uthman who was sitting opposite to him: Will you not prevent the people from lamenting; for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said: The dead is punished because of the lamenting of his family for him? Ibn Abbas then said that Umar used to say someting of that nature; and then narrated saying: I proceeded from Mecca along with Umar till we reached AlBaida and there was a party of riders under the shade of a tree. He said to me : Go and find out who this party is. I cast a glance and there was Suhaib in that party. So I informed him Umar about it. He said: Call him to me. So I went back to Suhaib and said: Go and meet the Commander of the believers. When Umar was wounded; Suhaib came walling: Alas; for the brother! alas for the companion! Umar said: O Suhaib; do you wail for me; whereas the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The dead would be punished on account of the lamentation of the members of his family ? Ibn Abbas said: When Umar died I made a mention of it to Aisha. She said: May Allah have mercy upon Umar! I swear by Allah that Allah Messenger ﷺ never said that Allah would punish the believer because of the weeping of any one of the members of his family ; but he said that Allah would increase the punishment of the unbeliever because of the weeping of his family over him. Aisha said: The Quran is enough for you when it states : No bearer of burden will bear another burden vi. 164. Thereupon Ibn Abbas said: Allah is He Who has caused laughter and weeping. I said to him: My mother sent this to you; and she conveys her Salam; and says: This is a little something from us for you. He said: Put it down. Then he said: Go and invite so-and-so; so-and-so; and so-and-so for me; and whomever you meet. He named some people; and said: I invited those he named; and whomever I met. - He AlJad said: I said to Anas: How many of you were there? He said: Roughly about three-hundred. - He Anas said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: O Anas! Bring me the Tawr. He said: They entered until the Suffah a shaded part of the Masjid in AlMadinah and the apartment were full. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Let groups of ten in; and let each person eat what is near him. He said: They ate until they were full. He said: A group exited; and another group entered; until all of them ate. He said: He said to me: O Anas! Remove it. He said: So I took it. I could not tell if there was more when I first put it down; or when I picked it up. He said: Groups of them sat talking in the house of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his wife sat facing the wall. They began to be burdensome on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to greet his women folk; then he returned; they realized that they had overburdened him; so they hastened for the gate and all of them exited. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came until he lowered the curtain; and entered while I was sitting in the apartment. He did not remain there long before he left me; and these Ayat were revealed. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to recite them to the people: O you who believe! Do not enter the Prophet house unless permission is given to you for a meal; not to wait for its preparation. But when you are invited; enter; and when you have taken your meals; dispense without sitting for a talk. One day I sat by the way that they the Companions use to come out through. Abu Bakr passed and so I asked him about an Ayah from Allah Book; not asking him except that he might tell me to follow him for something to eat. But he passed on without doing so. Then Umar passed; so I asked him about an Ayah from Allah Book; not asking him except that he might tell me to follow him. But he passed on without doing so. Then Ab AlQasim s.a.w passed; and he smiled when he saw me; and said: Abu Huraira? I said: I am here O Messenger of Allah! He said: Come along. He continued and I followed him; he entered his house; so I sought permission to enter; and he permitted me. He found a bowl of milk and said: Where did this milk come from? It was said: It was a gift to us from so and so. So the Messenger of Allah s.a.w said: O Abu Huraira I said: I am here O Messenger of Allah! He said: Go to the people of AlSuffah to invite them. - Now; they were the guests of the people of Islam; they had nothing of people nor wealth to rely upon. Whenever some charity was brought to him; he would send it to them without using any of it. And when a gift was given to him s.a.w ; he would send for them to participate and share with him in it. I became upset about that; and I said to myself : What good will this bowl be among the people of AlSuffah and I am the one bringing it to them? Then he ordered me to circulate it among them So I wondered what of it would reach me from it; and I hoped that I would get from it what would satisfy me. But I would certainly not neglect to obey Allah and obey His Messenger; so I went to them and invited them. When they entered upon him they sat down. He said: Abu Huraira; take the bowl and give it to them. So I gave it to a man who drank his fill; then he gave it to another one; until it ended up with the Messenger of Allah s.a.w ; and all of the people had drank their fill. The Messenger of Allah s.a.w took the bowl; put it on his hand;then raised his head. He smiled and said: Abu Huraira; drink. So I drank; then he said: Drink. I kept drinking and he kept on saying; Drink. Then I said: By the One Who sent you with the truth! I have no more space for it. So he took the bowl and praised Allah; mentioned His Name and drank. But they did not stop; so they sat with them in their gatherings; and participated in eating and drinking with them. So Allah pitted their hearts against each other; and cursed them upon the tongue of Dawud and Eisa Bin Mariam. That was because they disobeyed and were ever transgressing. A man among his Companions stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah; if you do not want to marry her; then marry me to her. He said: Do you have anything? He said: No; by Allah; I do not have anything. He said: Look; even if it is only an iron ring. He went; then he came back and said: No; by Allah; O Messenger of Allah; not even an iron ring; but this is my Izar lower garment - Sahl said: He did not have a Rida upper garment - she can have half of it. The Messenger of Allah said: What could she do with your Izar? If you wear it; she will not have any of it; and if she wears it; you will not have any of it. The man sat down for a long time; then he got up; and the Messenger of Allah saw him leaving; so he ordered that he be called back. When he came; he said: What do you know of the Quran? He said: I know Surah such-and-such; and Surah such-and-such; and listed them. He said: Can you recite them by heart? He said: Yes. He said: What I fear most for you after I am gone is the worldly delights that will come to you. And he spoke of this world and its attractions. A man said: Can good bring forth evil? The Messenger of Allah remained silent and it was said to him that man : What is the matter with you? You speak to the Messenger of Allah when he does not speak to you? We noticed that he was receiving Revelation. Then he recovered and wiped off his sweat and said: I know what the questioner meant: he means that good never brings forth evil. But some of that which grows in the spring kills the animals or makes them sick; unless they eat AlKhadir kind of plant : if they eat their fill or it then turn to face the sun and then defecate and urinate and start to graze again. This wealth is fresh and sweet. Blessed is the wealth of a Muslim from which he gives to a Muslim from which he gives to orphans; the poor and wayfarers. For I heard the Messenger of Allah say: The deceased is punished due to some of his family weeping for him. Ibn Abbas said: Umar used to narrate something like that. I went out with Umar and when we got to on uninhabited area; he saw a caravan beneath a tree. He said: See whose caravan this is. I went and I found Suhaib and his family. I came back to him and said: O Commander of the Believers! This is Suhaib and his family. He said: Bring Suhaib to me. When we entered AlMadinah; Umar was attacked and Suhaib sat by him; weeping and saying; O my brother; O my brother. Umar said: O Suhaib; do not weep; for I heard the Messenger of Allah say: The deceased is punished due to some of the weeping of his family for him. He said: I mentioned that to Aisha and she said: By Allah you are not narrating this Hadith from two liars who have disbelieved; but sometimes you mishear. And no bearer of burdens shall bear another burden. The equipment and personal effects of Abu Bakr and of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were placed with Abu Bakr slave on a camel. Abu Bakr was sitting and waiting for his arrival. He arrived but he had no camel with him. He asked: Where is your camel? He replied: I lost it last night. Abu Bakr said: There was only one camel; even that you have lost. He then began to beat him while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was smiling and saying: Look at this man who is in the sacred state putting on ihram ; what is he doing? Ibn Abu Rizmah said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke nothing except the words: Look at this man who is in the sacred state wearing ihram ; what is he doing? SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25970Narrated AlBara Ibn Azib: We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ accompanying the bier of a man of the Ansar. When we reached his grave; it was not yet dug. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down and we also sat down around him as if birds were over our heads. He had in his hand a stick with which he was scratching the ground. He then raised his head and said: Seek refuge with Allah from the punishment in the grave. He said it twice or thrice. The version of Jabir adds here: He hears the beat of their sandals when they go back; and at that moment he is asked: O so and so! Who is your Lord; what is your religion; and who is your Prophet? Hannad version says: Two angels will come to him; make him sit up and ask him: Who is your Lord? He will reply: My Lord is Allah. They will ask him: What is your religion? He will reply: My religion is Islam. They will ask him: What is your opinion about the man who was sent on a mission among you? He will reply: He is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They will ask: Who made you aware of this? He will reply: I read Allah Book; believed in it; and considered it true; which is verified by Allah words: Allah Book; believed in it; and considered it true; which is verified by Allah words: Allah establishes those who believe with the word that stands firm in this world and the next. The agreed version reads: Then a crier will call from Heaven: My servant has spoken the truth; so spread a bed for him from Paradise; clothe him from Paradise; and open a door for him into Paradise. So some of its air and perfume will come to him; and a space will be made for him as far as the eye can see. He also mentioned the death of the infidel; saying: His spirit will be restored to his body; two angels will come to him; make him sit up and ask him: Who is your Lord? He will reply: Alas; alas! I do not know. They will ask him: What is your religion? He will reply: Alas; alas! I do not know. They will ask: Who was the man who was sent on a mission among you? He will reply: Alas; alas! I do not know. Then a crier will call from Heaven: He has lied; so spread a bed for him from Hell; clothe him from Hell; and open for him a door into Hell. Then some of its heat and pestilential wind will come to him; and his grave will be compressed; so that his ribs will be crushed together. Jabir version adds: One who is blind and dumb will then be placed in charge of him; having a sledge-hammer such that if a mountain were struck with it; it would become dust. He will give him a blow with it which will be heard by everything between the east and the west except by men and jinn; and he will become dust. He then asked : Do you know why I have assembled you? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He ﷺ said: I did not call you together fors some alarming news or for something good. Rather; I called you all because Tamim AlDari; a Christian; who came and accepted Islam; told me something which agrees with what I was telling you about the Dajjal. He told me that he sailed with thirty men of Lakhm and Judham and that they were storm-tossed for a month. They drew near to an island when the sun was setting. They sat in a boat nearest to them and entered the island where they were met by a very hairy beast. They said: Woe to you! What can you be ? It replied : I am the Jassasah. Go to this man in the monastery; for he is anxious to get news of you. He said : When it named a man to us we were afraid of it lest it should be a devil. So we went off quickly and entered the monastery; where we found a man with the hugest and strongest frame we had ever seen with his hands chained to his neck. He then narrated the rest of the tradition. He asked them about the palm-trees of Baisan and the spring of Zughar and about the unlettered prophet. He said: I am the messiah the Antichrist and will be soon given permission to emerge. And the Prophet ﷺ said: He is in the Syrian sea or the Yemeni sea: No; on the contrary; it is towards the east that he is. He said it twice and pointed his hand to the east. He said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up to pray; he raised his hands so as to bring them opposite his shoulders; and uttered the takbir Allah is the most great ; until every bone rested in its place properly: then re recited some verses from the Quran ; then he uttered the takbir Allah is most great ; raising his hands so as to bring them opposite his shoulders; then he bowed; placing the palms of his hands on his knees and keeping himself straight; neither raising nor lowering his head; then raised his head saying: Allah listens to him who praise Him; then raised his hands so as to bring them exactly opposite to his shoulders; then uttered: Allah is most great; then lowered himself to the ground in prostration ; keeping his arms away from his sides; then raised his head; bent his left foot and sat on it; and opened the toes when he prostrated: then he uttered: Allah is most great; then raised his head; bent his left foot and sat on it so that every bone returned to its place properly; then he did the same in the second rakah. He the narrator then narrated the rest of the tradition. He further said: Then he sat down at the end of two rakahs; when he was about to stand after two rakahs; he uttered the takbir; then he offered the last two rakahs of the prayer. This is how he used to pray. He said again If anyone kills a man and can prove it; he will get his spoil. I stood up and said Who will testify for me? I then sat down. He then said the same for the third time. I then stood up. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said What is the matter with you; Abu Qatadah? I told him the story. A man from the people said He has spoken the truth; and I have this spoil with me; so make him agreeable to take something in exchange. Abu Bakr said In that case I swear by Allaah that he must not do so. One of the Allaahs heroes does not fight for Allaah and his Apostle and then give you his spoil. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said He has spoken the truth; hand it over to him. Abu Qatadah said he handed it over to me; I sold the coat of mail and brought a garden among Banu Salamh. MuwataMalik-017-001-34532Yahya related to me from Malik from Ishaq Ibn Abdullah Ibn Abi Talha from Abu Murra; the mawla of Aqil Ibn Abi Talib from Abu Waqid AlLaythi that the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; was sitting in the Masjid with some people when three people came in. Two came toward the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and one went away. When the two stopped at the assembly of the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; they gave the greeting. One of them saw a gap in the circle and sat in it. The other sat down behind the circle. The third turned away and left. When the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; finished; he said; Shall I tell you about three people? One of them sought shelter with Allah; so Allah gave him shelter. The other was shy; so Allah was shy to him. MuwataMalik-017-001-35427Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya Ibn Said from Amr Ibn Kathir Ibn Aflah from Abu Muhammad; the mawla of Abu Qatada that Abu Qatada Ibn Ribi said; We went out with the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; in the year of Hunayn. When the armies met; the Muslims were put in disarray. I saw a man from the idol worshippers who had got the better of one of the Muslims; so I circled round and came up behind him; and struck him with a sword on his shoulder-blade. He turned to me and grabbed me so hard that I felt the smell of death in it. Then death overcame him; and he let go of me. He continued; I met Umar Ibn AlKhattab and said to him; What going on with the people? He replied; The Command of Allah. Then the people took hold of the battle and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; Whoever has killed one of the dead and can prove it; can strip him of his personal effects. I stood up and said; Who will testify for me? and then I sat down. The Messenger of Allah repeated; Whoever has killed one of the dead and can prove it; can strip him of his personal effects. I stood up and said; Who will testify for me? then I sat down. Then he repeated his statement a third time; so I stood up; and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; What the matter with you; Abu Qatada? So I related my story to him. A man said; He has spoken the truth; Messenger of Allah. I have the effects of that slain person with me; so give him compensation for it; Messenger of Allah. Abu Bakr said; No; by Allah! He did not intend that one of the lions of Allah should fight for Allah and His Messenger and then give you his spoils. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; He has spoken the truth; hand it over to him. He gave it to me; and I sold the breast-plate and I bought a garden in the area of the Banu Salima with the money.
