The Prophet ﷺ looked at the sky when no cloud could be detected. Then he invoked Allah for rain. Clouds started gathering together and it rained till the Medina valleys started flowing with water. It continued raining till the next Friday. Then that man or some other man stood up while the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the Friday sermon; and said; We are drowned; Please invoke your Lord to withhold it rain from us The Prophet smiled and said twice or thrice; O Allah! Please let it rain round about us and not upon us. The clouds started dispersing over Medina to the right and to the left; and it rained round about Medina and not upon Medina. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-345Narrated Anas: Allah Messenger ﷺ I was delivering the Khutba sermon on a Friday when the people stood up; shouted and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! There is no rain drought ; the trees have dried and the livestock are destroyed; Please pray to Allah for rain. So Allah Messenger ﷺ said twice; O Allah! Bless us with rain. By Allah; there was no trace of cloud in the sky and suddenly the sky became overcast with clouds and it started raining. The Prophet ﷺ came down the pulpit and offered the prayer. When he came back from the prayer to his house it was raining and it rained continuously till the next Friday. When the Prophet started delivering the Friday Khutba sermon ; the people started shouting and said to him; The houses have collapsed and the roads are cut off; so please pray to Allah to withhold the rain. So the Prophet ﷺ smiled and said; O Allah! Round about us and not on us. So the sky became clear over Medina but it kept on raining over the outskirts of Medina and not a single drop of rain fell over Median. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7207Narrated Ibn Abbas: I witnessed the Id AlFitr prayer with Allah Messenger ﷺ ; Abu Bakr; Umar and Uthman; and all of them offered it before delivering the sermon... and then delivered the sermon. Once the Prophet after completing the prayer and the sermon came down; as if I am now looking at him waving at the men with his hand to sit down; and walked through them till he; along with Bilal; reached the rows of the women. SahihMuslim-017-001-20634Yazid Bin Hayan reported; I went along with Husain Bin Sabra and Umar Bin Muslim to Zaid Bin Arqam and; as we sat by his side; Husain said to him: Zaid. you have been able to acquire a great virtue that you saw Allah Messenger ﷺ listened to his talk; fought by his side in different battles; offered prayer behind me. Zaid; you have in fact earned a great virtue. Zaid; narrate to us what you heard from Allah Messenger ﷺ. He said: I have grown old and have almost spent my age and I have forgotten some of the things which I remembered in connection with Allah Messenger ﷺ ; so accept whatever I narrate to you; and which I do not narrate do not compel me to do that. He then said: One day Allah Messenger ﷺ stood up to deliver sermon at a watering place known as Khumm situated between Mecca and Medina. He praised Allah; extolled Him and delivered the sermon and. exhorted us and said: Now to our purpose. O people; I am a human being. I am about to receive a messenger the angel of death from my Lord and I; in response to Allah call; would bid good-bye to you ; but I am leaving among you two weighty things: the one being the Book of Allah in which there is right guidance and light; so hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it. He exhorted us to hold fast to the Book of Allah and then said: The second are the members of my household I remind you of your duties to the members of my family. He Husain said to Zaid: Who are the members of his household? Arent his wives the members of his family? Thereupon he said: His wives are the members of his family but here the members of his family are those for whom acceptance of Zakat is forbidden. And he said: Who are they? Thereupon he said: Ali and the offspring of Ali; Aqil and the offspring of Aqil and the offspring of Jafar and the offspring of Abbas. SahihMuslim-017-001-22424Anas Bin Malik reported that a person entered the Masjid through the door situated on theside of Daral-Qada during Friday prayer and the messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering the sermon while standing. He came and stood in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah; the camels died and the passages were blocked; so supplicate Allah to send down rain upon us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands and then said: O Allah; send down rain upon us; O Allah; send dowp rain upon us; O Allah; send down rain upon us. Anas said: By Allah; we did not see any cloud or any patch of it; and there was neither any house or building standing between us and the hillock Sala. There appeared a cloud in the shape of a shield from behind it; and as it came high in the sky it spread and then there was a downpour of rain. By Allah; we did not see the sun throughout the week. Then that very man came on the coming Friday through the same door when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing and delivering the sermon. He stood in front of him and said: Messenger of Allah; our animals died and the passages blocked. Supplicate Allah to stop the rain for us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ again raised his hands and said: O Allah; let it rain fall in our suburbs and not on us; O Allah send it down on the hillocks and small mountains and the river-beds and at places where trees grow. The rain stopped; and as we stepped out we were walking in sun- shine. He the narrator said to Sharik: I asked Anas Bin Malik if he was the same man. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-28029Narrated Ali Ibn Abu Talib: Ali said on the pulpit in the Masjid of Kufah: When Friday comes; the devils go to the markets with their flags; and involve people in their needs and prevent them from the Friday prayer. The angels come early in the morning; sit at the door of the Masjid; and record that so-and-so came at the first hour; and so-and-so came at the second hour until the imam comes out for preaching. When a man sits in a place where he can listen to the sermon and look at the imam ; where he remains silent and does not interrupt; he will receive a double reward. If he stays away; sits in a place where he cannot listen to the sermon ; silent; and does not interrupt; he will receive the reward only once. If he sits in a place where he can listen to the sermon and look at the imam ; and he does not remain silent; he will have the burden of it. If anyone says to his companion sitting besides him to be silent while the imam is preaching ; he is guilty of idle talk. Anyone who interrupts during the sermon will receive nothing no reward on that Friday. Then he the narrator says in the end of this tradition: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say so.Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated by AlWalid Bin Muslim from Ibn Jabir. This version adds: bil-rabaith instead of Alrabaith; needs preventing the people from prayer.
