SahihMuslim-017-001-18040It is reported by Zuhri that this tradition was narrated to him by Malik Bin Aus who said: Umar Bin AlKhattab sent for me and I came to him when the day had advanced. I found him in his house sitting on his bare bed-stead; reclining on a leather pillow. He said to me : Malik; some people of your tribe have hastened to me with a request for help. I have ordered a little money for them. Take it and distribute it among them. I said: I wish you had ordered somebody else to do this job. He said: Malik; take it and do what you have been told. At this moment his man-servant Yarfa came in and said: Commander of the Faithful; what do you say about Uthman; Abd AlRabman Bin Auf; AlZubair and Saad who have come to seek an audience with you ? He said: Yes; and permitted them. so they entered. Then he Yarfa came again and said: What do you say about Ali and Abbas who are present at the door ? He said: Yes; and permitted them to enter. Abbas said: Commander of the Faithful; decide the dispute between me and this sinful; treacherous; dishonest liar. The people who were present also said: Yes. Commander of the Faithful; do decide the dispute and have mercy on them. Malik Bin Aus said: I could well imagine that they had sent them in advance for this purpose by Ali and Abbas. Umar said: Wait and be patient. I adjure you by Allah by Whose order the heavens and the earth are sustained; dont you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: We prophets do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is to be given in charity? They said: Yes. Then he turned to Abbas and Ali and said: I adjure you both by Allah by Whose order the heavens and earth are sustained; dont you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: We do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is to be given in charity? They too said: Yes. Then Umar said: Allah; the Glorious and Exalted; had done to His Messenger ﷺ a special favour that He has not done to anyone else except him. He quoted the Quranic verse: What Allah has bestowed upon His Apostle from the properties of the people of township is for Allah and His Messenger. The narrator said: I do not know whether he also recited the previous verse or not. Umar continued: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ distrbuted among you the properties abandoned by Banu Nadir. By Allah; he never preferred himself over you and never appropriated anything to your exclusion. After a fair distribution in this way this property was left over. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would meet from its income his annual expenditure; and what remained would be deposited in the Bait AlMal. Continuing further he said: I adjure you by Allah by Whose order the heavens and the earth are sustained. Do you know this? They said: Yes. Then he adjured Abbas and All as he had adjured the other persons and asked: Do you both know this? They said: Yes. He said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away; Abu Bakr said: I am the successor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Both of you came to demand your shares from the property left behind by the Messenger of Allah. Referring to Hadrat Abbas ; he said: You demanded your share from the property of your nephew; and he referring to Ali demanded a share on behalf of his wife from the property of her father. Abu Bakr Allah be pleased with him said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said: We do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is to be given in charity. So both of you thought him to be a liar; sinful; treacherous and dishonest. And Allah knows that he was true; virtuous; well-guided and a follower of truth. When Abu Bakr passed away and I have become the successor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr Allah be pleased with him ; you thought me to be a liar; sinful; treacherous and dishonest. And Allah knows that I am true; virtuous; well-guided and a follower of truth. I became the guardian of this property. Then you as well as he came to me. Both of you have come and your purpose is identical. You said: Entrust the property to us. I said: If you wish that I should entrust it to you; it will be on the condition that both of you will undertake to abide by a pledge made with Allah that you will use it in the same way as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used it. So both of you got it. He said: Wasnt it like this? They said: Yes. He said: Then you have again come to me with the request that I should adjudge between you. No; by Allah. I will not give any other judgment except this until the arrival of the Doomsday. SahihMuslim-017-001-19520Abu Saeed Khudri reported that Muawiya went to a circle in the Masjid and said: What makes you sit here? They said: We are sitting here in order to remember Allah. He said: I adjure you by Allah to tell me whether you are sitting here for this very purpose ? They said: By Allah; we are sitting here for this very purpose. Thereupon; he said: I have not demanded you to take an oath; because of any allegation against you and none of my rank in the eye of Allah Messenger ﷺ is the narrator of so few ahadith as I am. The fact is that Allah Messenger ﷺ went out to the circle of his Companions and said: What makes you sit? They said: We are sitting here in order to remember Allah and to praise Him for He guided us to the path of Islam and He conferred favours upon us. Thereupon he adjured by Allah and asked if that only was the purpose of their sitting there. I looked and found the people gathered; and in the midst of them was a group; there I saw Ali Bin Abi Talib; AlZubair; Talha h and Saad Bin Abi Waqqas; may Allah have mercy on them. When I got there; it was said that Uthman Bin Affan had come. He came; wearing a yellowish cloak. I said to my companion: Stay where you are until I find out what is happening. Uthman said: Is Ali here? Is AlZubair here? Is Talha h here? Is Saad here? They said: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah; beside Whom there is none worthy of worship; are you aware that the Messenger of Allah said: Whoever buys the Mirbad of Banu so and so; Allah will forgive him; and I bought it; then I came to the Messenger of Allah and told him; and he said: Add it to our Masjid and the reward for it will be yours? They said: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah; beside Whom there is none worthy of worship; are you aware that the Messenger of Allah said: Whoever buys the well of Rumah; Allah will forgive him; so I came to the Messenger of Allah and said: I have bought the well of Rumah. SunanAlNasai-017-001-14303It was narrated that AlAhnaf Bin Qais said: We set out for Hajj; and came to AlMadinah intending to perform Hajj. While we were in our camping place unloading our mounts; someone came to us and said: The people have gathered in the Masjid and there is panic. So we set out and found the people gathered around a group in the middle of the Masjid; among whom were Ali; AlZubair; Talha h and Saad Bin Abi Waqqas. While we were like that; Uthman came; wearing a yellowish cloak with which he had covered his head. He said: Is Ali here? Is Talha h here? Is AlZubair here? Is Saad here? They said: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah; beside Whom there is none worthy of worship; are you aware that the Messenger of Allah said: Whoever buys the Mirbad of Banu so and so; Allah will forgive him; and I bought it for twenty or twenty-five thousand; then I came to the Messenger of Allah and told him; and he said: Add it to our Masjid and the reward for it will be yours? They said: By Allah; yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah; beside Whom there is none worthy of worship; are you aware that the Messenger of Allah said: Whoever buys the well of Rumah; Allah will forgive him; so I bought it for such and such an amount; then I came to the Messenger of Allah and told him; and he said: Give it to provide water for the Muslims; and the reward for it will be yours? They said: By Allah; yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah; beside Whom there is none worthy of worship; are you aware that the Messenger of Allah said: Whoever equips these men ; Allah will forgive him; -meaning the army of AlUsrah i.e. Tabuk - so I equipped them until they were not lacking even a rope or a bridle? SunanAlNasai-017-001-14304It was narrated that Thumamah Bin Hazn AlQushairi said: I was present at the house when Uthman looked out over them and said: I adjure you by Allah and by Islam; are you aware that when the Messenger of Allah came to AlMadinah; and it had no water that was considered sweet suitable for drinking except the well of Rumah; he said: Who will buy the well of Rumah and dip his bucket in it alongside the buckets of the Muslims; in return for a better one in Paradise? and I bought it with my capital and dipped my bucket into it alongside the buckets of the Muslims? Yet today you are preventing me from drinking from it; so that I have to drink salty water. They said: By Allah; yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah and by Islam; are you aware that I equipped the army of AlUsrah Tabuk from my own wealth? They said: By Allah; yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah and by Islam; are you aware that when the Masjid became too small for the people and the Messenger of Allah said: Who will buy the plot of the family of so and so and add it to the Masjid; in return for a better plot in Paradise? I bought it with my capital and added it to the Masjid? Yet now you are preventing me from praying two Rakahs therein. They said: By Allah; yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah and by Islam; are you aware that when the Messenger of Allah was atop Thabir -the Thabir in Makkah- and with him were Abu Bakr; Umar and myself; the mountain shook; and the Messenger of Allah kicked it with his foot and said: Be still; Thabir; for upon you are a Prophet; a Siddiq and two martyrs? They said: By Allah; yes. He said: Allahu Akbar! SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25985Salamah Bin Kuhail said: Zaid Bin Wahb AlJuhani told us that he was in the army which proceeded to fight with the Khawarij in the company of Ali. Ali then said: O people! I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: there will appear from among my community people who recite the Quran; and your recitation has no comparison with their recitation; and your prayer has no comparison with their prayer; and your fasts have no comparison with their fasts. They will recite the Quran thinking that it is beneficial for them; while it is harmful for them. Their prayer will not pass their collar-bones. They will swerve from Islam as an arrow goes through the animal shot at. If the army that is approaching them knows what reward has been decided for them at the tongue of their Prophet ﷺ ; they would leave other good activities. The sign of that is that among them there will be a man who has an upper arm; but not hand; on his upper arm there will be something like the nipple of a female breast; having white hair thereon. Will you go to Muawiyah and the people of Syria; and leave them behind among your children and property? I swear by Allah; I hope these are the same people; for they shed the blood unlawfully; and attacked the cattle of the people so go on in the name of Allah. Salamah Bin Kuhail said: Zaid Bin Wahb then informed me of all the halting places one by one; saying : Until we passed a bridge. When we fought with each other; Abdullah Bin Wahb AlRasibi; who was the leader of the Khawarij; said to them: Throw away the lances and pull out the swords from their sheaths; for I am afraid they will adjure you as they had adjured on the day of Harura. So they threw away their lances and pulled out their swords; and the people pierced them with their lances. They were killed lying one on the other. On that day only two persons of the partisans of Ali were afflicted. Ali said: Search for the man with the crippled hand. But they could not find him. Then Ali got up himself and went to the people who had been killed and were lying on one another. He said: Take them out. They found him just near the ground. So he shouted: Allah is Most Great! He said: Allah spoke the truth; and His Apostle has conveyed. Ubaidat AlSalmani stood up to him; saying: Commander of the Faithful! Have you heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? He said: Yes; by him; there is no God but He. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-26557Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas: A blind man had a slave-mother who used to abuse the Prophet ﷺ and disparage him. He forbade her but she did not stop. He rebuked her but she did not give up her habit. One night she began to slander the Prophet ﷺ and abuse him. So he took a dagger; placed it on her belly; pressed it; and killed her. A child who came between her legs was smeared with the blood that was there. When the morning came; the Prophet ﷺ was informed about it. He assembled the people and said: I adjure by Allah the man who has done this action and I adjure him by my right to him that he should stand up. Jumping over the necks of the people and trembling the man stood up. He sat before the Prophet ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah! I am her master; she used to abuse you and disparage you. I forbade her; but she did not stop; and I rebuked her; but she did not abandon her habit. I have two sons like pearls from her; and she was my companion. Last night she began to abuse and disparage you. So I took a dagger; put it on her belly and pressed it till I killed her. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-26643AlBara Bin Azib said: The people passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a jew whose face blackened with charcoal and he was being taken around. He adjured them by Allah and asked: What is the prescribed punishment for a fornicator in your Divine book? He the narrator said: They referred him to a man of them. The Prophet ﷺ adjured him and asked: What is the punishment for a fornication in your Divine Book? He replied: Stoning. But fornication spread among our people of rank; so we disliked that a person of rank should be left alone and the punishment be inflicted on one who is lower in rank than him. So we suspended it for us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then commanded regarding him and he was stoned to death. He then said: O Allah! SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-26646Narrated Abu Huraira: This is Mamar version which is more accurate. A man and a woman of the Jews committed fornication. Some of them said to the others: Let us go to this Prophet; for he has been sent with an easy law. If he gives a judgment lighter than stoning; we shall accept it; and argue about it with Allah; saying: It is a judgment of one of your prophets. So they came to the Prophet ﷺ who was sitting in the Masjid among his companions. They said: AbulQasim; what do you think about a man and a woman who committed fornication? He did not speak to them a word till he went to their school. He stood at the gate and said: I adjure you by Allah Who revealed the Torah to Moses; what punishment do you find in the Torah for a person who commits fornication; if he is married? They said: He shall be blackened with charcoal; taken round a donkey among the people; and flogged. A young man among them kept silent. When the Prophet ﷺ emphatically adjured him; he said: By Allah; since you have adjured us we inform you that we find stoning in the Torah is the punishment for fornication. The Prophet ﷺ said: So when did you lessen the severity of Allah command? He said: A relative of one of our kings had committed fornication; but his stoning was suspended. Then a man of a family of common people committed fornication. He was to have been stoned; but his people intervened and said: Our man shall not be stoned until you bring your man and stone him. So they made a compromise on this punishment between them. The Prophet ﷺ said: So I decide in accordance with what the Torah says. He then commanded regarding them and they were stoned to death. AlZuhri said: We have been informed that this verse was revealed about them: It was We Who revealed the Law to Moses : therein was guidance and light. He then said: Muawiyah; if I speak the truth; declare me true; and if I tell a lie; declare me false. He said: Do so. He said: I adjure you by Allah; did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding use to wear gold? He replied: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah; do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited the wearing of silk? He replied: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah; do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited the wearing of the skins of beasts of prey and riding on them? He said: Yes. He said: I swear by Allah; I saw all this in your house; O Muawiyah. Muawiyah said: I know that I cannot be saved from you; O Miqdam. Khalid said: Muawiyah then ordered to give him what he did not order to give to his two companions; and gave a stipend of two hundred dirhams to his son. AlMiqdam then divided it among his companions; and the man of Banu Asad did not give anything to anyone from the property he received. When Muawiyah was informed about it; he said: AlMiqdam is a generous man; he has an open hand for generosity. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-28533Narrated Ibn Abbas: Abu Huraira narrated that a man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: I had a dream last night; and he then mentioned it. So Abu Bakr interpreted it. The Prophet ﷺ said: You are partly right and partly wrong. He then said: I adjure you; Messenger of Allah; may my father be sacrificed on you; do tell me the mistake I have committed. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-29234Narrated Malik Bin Aws Bin AlHadathan: Umar sent for me when the day rose high. I found him sitting on a couch without cover. When I entered upon him; he said: Malik; some people of you tribe gradually came here; and I have ordered to give them something; so distribute it among them. I said: If you assigned this work to some other person; it would be better. He said: Take it. Then Yarfa came to him and said: Commander of the Faithful; will you permit Uthman Bin Affan; Abdulrahman Bin Awuf ; AlZubair Bin AlAwam; and Saad b; Abi Waqqas to enter ? He said: Yes. So he permitted them and they entered. Yarfa again came to him and said: Commander of the Faithful; would you permit AlAbbas and Ali ? He said: Yes. He then permitted them and they entered. AlAbbas said: Commander of Faithful; decide between me and this; referring to Ali. Some of them said: Yes; Commander of the Faithful; decide between them and give them comfort. Malik Bin Aws said: It occurred to me that both of them brought the other people for this. Umar said: Show patience do not make haste. He then turned towards those people and said: I adjure you by Allah by Whose order the heaven and earth stand. Do you know that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: We are not inherited whatever we leave is sadaqah alms. They said: Yes. He then turned towards Ali and AlAbbas and said: I adjure you by Allah by Whose order the heaven and earth stand. Do you know that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: We are not inherited whatever we leave is sadaqah alms. They said: Yes. He then said: Allah has appointed for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a special portion in the booty which he did not do for anyone. Allah; Most High; said: What Allah has bestowed on His Apostle and taken away from them - for this ye made no expedition with either cavalry or camelry. But Allah gives power to His apostles over any He pleases ; and Allah has power over all things. Allah bestowed the property of Banu AlNadir on His Apostle. I swear by Allah; he did not reserve it for himself; nor did he take it over and above you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to his share for his maintenance annually; or used to take his contribution and give his family their annual contribution from this property ; then take what remained and deal with it as he did with Allah property. He then turned towards those people and said: I adjure you by Allah by Whose order the heaven and earth stand. Do you know that ? They said: Yes. He then turned towards Ali and AlAbbas and said: I adjure you by Allah by Whose order the heaven and earth stand. Do you know that ? They said: Yes. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died; Abu Bakr said: I am the protector of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then you and this Ali came to Abu Bakr; demanding a share from the inheritance of your cousin; and this Ali demanding the share of his wife from the property of her father. Abu Bakr then said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: We are not inherited. Whatever we leave is sadaqah. Allah knows that he Abu Bakr was true; faithful; rightly-guided; and the follower of Triuth. Abu Bakr then administered it property of the Prophet. When Abu Bakr died; I said: I am the protector of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr. So I administered whatever Allah wished. Then you and this Ali came. Both of you are at one; and your matter is the same. So they asked me for it property ; and I said: If you wish I give it to you on condition that you are bound by the covenant of Allah; meaning that you will administer it as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to administer. So you took it from me on that condition. Then again you have come to me so that I decide between you other than that. I swear by Allah; I shall not decide between you other than that till the Last Hour comes. If you helpless; return it to me.Abu Dawud said: They asked him for making it half between them; and not that they were ignorant of the fact the Prophet ﷺ said: We are not inherited. Whatever we leave is sadaqah alms. They were also seeking the truth.
