When we were at Malal the eyes of Umar Bin Ubaidullah became sore and; when we reached Rauba the pain grew intense. He Nubaib Bin Wahb sent one to Aban Bin Uthman to ask him what to do. He sent him the message to apply aloes to them; for Uthman Allah be pleased with him reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ applied aloes to the person whose eyes were sore and he was in the state of Ihram. SunanAlNasai-017-001-15039		Umm Hakim bint Aasi d narrated from her mother that her husband died and she had a problem in her eye; so she applied kohl to clear her eyes. She sent a freed slave woman of hers to Umm Salamah to ask her about using kohl to clear her eyes. She said: Do not use kohl unless it cannot be avoided. The Messenger of Allah entered upon me when Abu Salamah died and I had put some aloe juice on my eyes. He said: What is this; O Umm Salamah? I said: It is aloe juice; O Messenger of Allah; there is no perfume in it. He said: It makes the face look bright; so only use it at night; and do not comb your hair with perfume or henna; for it is a dye. I said: With what can I comb it; O Messenger of Allah? He said: With lote leaves -cover your head with them. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25144		Umm Hakim; daughter of Usayd; reported on the authority of her mother that her husband died and she was suffering from sore eyes. She therefore applied collyrium jala. Ahmad said: The correct version is glittering collyrium kuhl Aljala. She sent her slave-girl to Umm Salamah; and she asked her about the use of glittering collyrium kuhl Aljala. She said: Do not apply it except in the case of dire need which is troubling you. In that case you can use it at night; but you should remove it in the daytime. Then Umm Salamah said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to visit me when Abu Salamah died; and I had put the juice of aloes in my eye. He asked : What is this; Umm Salamah? I replied: It is only the juice of aloes and contains no perfume. He said: It gives the face a glow; so apply it only at night and remove it in daytime; and do not comb yourself with scent or henna; for it is a dye. I asked: What should I use when I comb myself; Messenger of Allah? He said: Use lote-tree leaves and smear your head copiously with them. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-28361		Umm Qasis; daughter of Mihsan said : I brought my son to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while I had compressed his uvula for its swelling. He said : Why do you afflict your children by squeezing for a swelling in the Uvula ? Apply this Indian aloes wood; for it contain seven types of remedies; among them being a remedy for pleurisy. It is applied through the nose for a swelling of the uvula poured into the side of the mouth for pleurisy.Abu Dawud said : By aloes wood he meant costus. MuwataMalik-017-001-35303		108 Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; visited Umm Salamah while she was in mourning for Abu Salama and she had put aloes on her eyes. He said; What is this; Umm Salama? She said; It is only aloes; Messenger of Allah. He said; Put it on at night and wipe it off in the daytime. Malik said; The mourning of a young girl who has not yet had a menstrual period takes the same form as the mourning of one who has had a period. She avoids what a mature woman avoids if her husband dies. Malik said; A slave-girl mourns her husband when he dies for two months and five nights like her idda. Malik said; An umm walad does not have to mourn when her master dies; and a slave-girl does not have to mourn when her master dies. Mourning is for those with husbands.
