SahihAlBukhari-017-001-155 | Narrated Abdullah: We used to greet the Prophet ﷺ while he was praying and he used to answer our greetings. When we returned from AlNajashi the ruler of Ethiopia ; we greeted him; but he did not answer us during the prayer and after finishing the prayer he said; In the prayer one is occupied with a more serious matter. | The Chapter on Mercy Vs Evil in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on What speech is prohibited during AlSalat in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2898 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: For one year I wanted to ask Umar about the two women who helped each other against the Prophet ﷺ but I was afraid of him. One day he dismounted his riding animal and went among the trees of Arak to answer the call of nature; and when he returned; I asked him and he said; They were Aisha and Hafsa. Then he added; We never used to give significance to ladies in the days of the Pre-lslamic period of ignorance; but when Islam came and Allah mentioned their rights; we used to give them their rights but did not allow them to interfere in our affairs. Once there was some dispute between me and my wife and she answered me back in a loud voice. I said to her; Strange! You can retort in this way? She said; Yes. Do you say this to me while your daughter troubles Allah Messenger ﷺ ? So I went to Hafsa and said to her; I warn you not to disobey Allah and His Apostle. I first went to Hafsa and then to Umm Salamah and told her the same. She said to me; O Umar! It surprises me that you interfere in our affairs so much that you would poke your nose even into the affairs of Allah Messenger ﷺ and his wives. So she rejected my advice. There was an Ansari man; whenever he was absent from Allah Messenger ﷺ and I was present there; I used to convey to him what had happened on that day ; and when I was absent and he was present there; he used to convey to me what had happened as regards news from Allah Messenger ﷺ. During that time all the rulers of the nearby lands had surrendered to Allah Messenger ﷺ except the king of Ghassan in Sham; and we were afraid that he might attack us. All of a sudden the Ansari came and said; A great event has happened! I asked him; What is it? Has the Ghassani king come? He said; Greater than that! Allah Messenger ﷺ has divorced his wives! I went to them and found all of them weeping in their dwellings; and the Prophet ﷺ had ascended to an upper room of his. At the door of the room there was a slave to whom I went and said; Ask the permission for me to enter. He admitted me and I entered to see the Prophet ﷺ lying on a mat that had left its imprint on his side. Under his head there was a leather pillow stuffed with palm fires. Behold! There were some hides hanging there and some grass for tanning. Then I mentioned what I had said to Hafsa and Umm Salamah and what reply Umm Salamah had given me. Allah Messenger ﷺ smiled and stayed there for twenty nine days and then came down. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3279 | Narrated Aslam: Allah Messenger ﷺ was traveling on one of his journeys; and Umar Bin AlKhattab was traveling along with him at night. Umar asked him about something; but Allah Messenger ﷺ did not answer him. He asked again; but he did not answer. He asked for the third time; but he did not answer. On that; Umar said to himself; May your mother lose you! You have asked Allah Messenger ﷺ three times; but he did not answer at all! Umar said; So I made my camel go fast till I was ahead of the people; and I was afraid that something might be revealed about me. After a little while I heard a call maker calling me; I said; I was afraid that some Quranic Verse might be revealed about me. So I went to Allah Apostle and greeted him. He said; Tonight there has been revealed to me a Surah which is dearer to me than that on which the sun shines i.e. the world. Then he recited: Verily! We have given you O Muhammad ; a manifest victory. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3579 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: I had been eager to ask Umar Bin AlKhattab about the two ladies from among the wives of the Prophet regarding whom Allah said If you two wives of the Prophet ﷺ namely Aisha and Hafsa turn in repentance to Allah; your hearts are indeed so inclined to oppose what the Prophet ﷺ likes. 66.4 till Umar performed the Hajj and I too; performed the Hajj along with him. On the way Umar went Aasi de to answer the call of nature; and I also went Aasi de along with him carrying a tumbler full of water; and when Umar had finished answering the call of nature; I poured water over his hands and he performed the ablution. Then I said to him; O chief of the Believers! Who were the two ladies from among the wives of the Prophet ﷺ regarding whom Allah said: If you two wives of the Prophet turn in repentance to Allah your hearts are indeed so inclined to oppose what the Prophet ﷺ likes ? 66.4 He said; I am astonished at your question; O Ibn Abbas. They were Aisha and Hafsa. Then Umar went on narrating the Hadith and said; I and an Ansari neighbor of mine from Bani Umaiya Bin Zaid who used to live in Awali AlMedina; used to visit the Prophet ﷺ in turn. He used to go one day and I another day. When I went; I would bring him the news of what had happened that day regarding the Divine Inspiration and other things; and when he went; he used to do the same for me. We; the people of Quraish used to have the upper hand over our wives; but when we came to the Ansar; we found that their women had the upper hand over their men; so our women also started learning the ways of the Ansari women. I shouted at my wife and she retorted against me and I disliked that she should answer me back. She said to me; Why are you so surprised at my answering you back? By Allah; the wives of the Prophet answer him back and some of them may leave does not speak to him throughout the day till the night. The talk scared me and I said to her; Whoever has done so will be ruined! Then I proceeded after dressing myself; and entered upon Hafsa and said to her; Does anyone of you keep the Prophet ﷺ angry till night? She said; Yes. I said; You are a ruined losing person! Dont you fear that Allah may get angry for the anger of Allah Messenger ﷺ and thus you will be ruined? So do not ask more from the Prophet ﷺ and do not answer him back and do not give up talking to him. Ask me whatever you need and do not be tempted to imitate your neighbor i.e.; Aisha in her manners for she is more charming than you and more beloved to the Prophet ﷺ. Umar added; At that time a talk was circulating among us that the tribe of Ghassan were preparing their horses to invade us. My Ansari companion; on the day of his turn; went to the town and returned to us at night and knocked at my door violently and asked if I was there. I became horrified and came out to him. He said; Today a great thing has happened. I asked; What is it? Have the people of Ghassan come? He said; No; but What has happened is greater and more horrifying than that: Allah Messenger ﷺ ; has divorced his wives. Umar added; The Prophet ﷺ kept away from his wives and I said Hafsa is a ruined loser. I had already thought that most probably this divorce would happen in the near future. So I dressed myself and offered the morning prayer with the Prophet ﷺ and then the Prophet; entered an upper room and stayed there in seclusion. I entered upon Hafsa and saw her weeping. I asked; What makes you weep? Did I not warn you about that? Did the Prophet ﷺ divorce you all? She said; I do not know. There he is retired alone in the upper room. I came out and sat near the pulpit and saw a group of people sitting around it and some of them were weeping. I sat with them for a while but could not endure the situation; so I went to the upper room where the Prophet; was and said to a black slave of his; Will you get the permission of the Prophet ﷺ for Umar to enter ? The slave went in; talked to the Prophet ﷺ about it and then returned saying; I have spoken to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned you but he kept quiet. Then I returned and sat with the group of people sitting near the pulpit. but I could not bear the situation and once again I said to the slave; Will you get the permission for Umar? He went in and returned saying; I mentioned you to him but he kept quiet. So I returned again and sat with the group of people sitting near the pulpit; but I could not bear the situation; and so I went to the slave and said; Will you get the permission for Umar? He went in and returned to me saying; I mentioned you to him but he kept quiet. When I was leaving; behold! The slave called me; saying; The Prophet ﷺ has given you permission. Then I entered upon Allah Messenger ﷺ and saw him Lying on a bed made of stalks of date palm leaves and there was no bedding between it and him. The stalks left marks on his side and he was leaning on a leather pillow stuffed with date-palm fires. I greeted him and while still standing I said; O Allah Apostle! Have you divorced your wives? He looked at me and said; No. I said; Allah Akbar! And then; while still standing; I said chatting; Will you heed what I say; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ? We; the people of Quraish used to have power over our women; but when we arrived at Medina we found that the men here were overpowered by their women. The Prophet ﷺ smiled and then I said to him; Will you heed what I say; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ? I entered upon Hafsa and said to her; Do not be tempted to imitate your companion Aisha ; for she is more charming than you and more beloved to the Prophet. The Prophet ﷺ smiled for a second time. When I saw him smiling; I sat down. Then I looked around his house; and by Allah; I could not see anything of importance in his house except three hides; so I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Invoke Allah to make your followers rich; for the Persians and the Romans have been made prosperous and they have been given the pleasures of the world ; although they do not worship Allah. Thereupon the Prophet ﷺ sat up as he was reclining. and said; Are you of such an opinion; O the son of AlKhattab? These are the people who have received the rewards for their good deeds in this world. I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Ask Allah to forgive me. Then the Prophet ﷺ kept away from his wives for twenty-nine days because of the story which Hafsa had disclosed to Aisha. The Prophet ﷺ had said; I will not enter upon them my wives for one month; because of his anger towards them; when Allah had admonished him. So; when twenty nine days had passed; the Prophet ﷺ first entered upon Aisha. Aisha said to him; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! You had sworn that you would not enter upon us for one month; but now only twenty-nine days have passed; for I have been counting them one by one. The Prophet ﷺ said; The present month is of twenty nine days. Aisha added; Then Allah revealed the Verses of the option. 2 And out of all his-wives he asked me first; and I chose him. Then he gave option to his other wives and they said what Aisha had said. 1 The Prophet; had decided to abstain from eating a certain kind of food because of a certain event; so Allah blamed him for doing so. Some of his wives were the cause of him taking that decision; therefore he deserted them for one month. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3591 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: One morning we saw the wives of the Prophet ﷺ weeping; and everyone of them had her family with her; I went to the Masjid and found that it was crowded with people. Then Umar Bin AlKhattab came and went up to the Prophet ﷺ who was in his upper room. He greeted him but nobody answered. He greeted again; but nobody answered. Then the gatekeeper called him and he entered upon the Prophet; and asked; Have you divorced your wives? The Prophet; said; No; but I have taken an oath not to go to them for one month. So the Prophet ﷺ stayed away from his wives for twenty nine days and then entered upon them. | The Chapter on Wives And Relationship And Refusals in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The decision of the Prophet not to share the beds with his wives and to stay away in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3801 | Narrated Anas: When the news of the arrival of the Prophet ﷺ at Medina reached Abdullah Bin Salam; he went to him to ask him about certain things; He said; I am going to ask you about three things which only a Prophet can answer: What is the first sign of The Hour? What is the first food which the people of Paradise will eat? Why does a child attract the similarity to his father or to his mother? The Prophet ﷺ replied; Gabriel has just now informed me of that. Ibn Salam said; He i.e. Gabriel is the enemy of the Jews amongst the angels. The Prophet ﷺ said; As for the first sign of The Hour; it will be a fire that will collect the people from the East to the West. As for the first meal which the people of Paradise will eat; it will be the caudate extra lobe of the fish-liver. As for the child; if the man discharge proceeds the woman discharge; the child attracts the similarity to the man; and if the woman discharge proceeds the mans; then the child attracts the similarity to the woman. On this; Abdullah Bin Salam said; I testify that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah; and that you are the Messenger of Allah. and added; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Jews invent such lies as make one astonished; so please ask them about me before they know about my conversion to I slam. The Jews came; and the Prophet ﷺ said; What kind of man is Abdullah Bin Salam among you? They replied; The best of us and the son of the best of us and the most superior among us; and the son of the most superior among us. The Prophet ﷺ said; What would you think if Abdullah Bin Salam should embrace Islam? They said; May Allah protect him from that. The Prophet ﷺ repeated his question and they gave the same answer. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4229 | Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet ﷺ said; None spoke in cradle but three: The first was Jesus; the second was ; there a man from Bani Israel called Juraij. While he was offering his prayers; his mother came and called him. He said to himself ; Shall I answer her or keep on praying? He went on praying and did not answer her; his mother said; O Allah! Do not let him die till he sees the faces of prostitutes. So while he was in his hermitage; a lady came and sought to seduce him; but he refused. So she went to a shepherd and presented herself to him to commit illegal sexual intercourse with her and then later she gave birth to a child and claimed that it belonged to Juraij. The people; therefore; came to him and dismantled his hermitage and expelled him out of it and abused him. Juraij performed the ablution and offered prayer; and then came to the child and said; O child! Who is your father? The child replied; The shepherd. After hearing this the people said; We shall rebuild your hermitage of gold; but he said; No; of nothing but mud. The third was the hero of the following story A lady from Bani Israel was nursing her child at her breast when a handsome rider passed by her. She said; O Allah ! Make my child like him. On that the child left her breast; and facing the rider said; O Allah! Do not make me like him. The child then started to suck her breast again. Abu Huraira further said; As if I were now looking at the Prophet ﷺ sucking his finger in way of demonstration. After a while the people passed by; with a lady slave and she i.e. the child mother said; O Allah! Do not make my child like this slave girl !; On that the child left her breast and said; O Allah! Make me like her. When she asked why; the child replied; The rider is one of the tyrants while this slave girl is falsely accused of theft and illegal sexual intercourse. | The Chapter on Fornication And Adultery And Family in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The Statement of Allah Taala And mention in the Book the story of Maryam in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4702 | Narrated AlBara Bin Azib: The Prophet ﷺ appointed Abdullah Bin Jubair as the commander of the infantry men archers who were fifty on the day of the battle of Uhud. He instructed them; Stick to your place; and dont leave it even if you see birds snatching us; till I send for you; and if you see that we have defeated the infidels and made them flee; even then you should not leave your place till I send for you. Then the infidels were defeated. By Allah; I saw the women fleeing lifting up their clothes revealing their leg-bangles and their legs. So; the companions of Abdullah Bin Jubair said; The booty! O people; the booty ! Your companions have become victorious; what are you waiting for now? Abdullah Bin Jubair said; Have you forgotten what Allah Messenger ﷺ said to you? They replied; By Allah! We will go to the people i.e. the enemy and collect our share from the war booty. But when they went to them; they were forced to turn back defeated. At that time Allah Messenger ﷺ in their rear was calling them back. Only twelve men remained with the Prophet ﷺ and the infidels martyred seventy men from us. On the day of the battle of Badr; the Prophet ﷺ and his companions had caused the Pagans to lose 140 men; seventy of whom were captured and seventy were killed. Then Abu Sufyan asked thrice; Is Muhammad present amongst these people? The Prophet ﷺ ordered his companions not to answer him. Then he asked thrice; Is the son of Abu Quhafa present amongst these people? He asked again thrice; Is the son of AlKhattab present amongst these people? He then returned to his companions and said; As for these men ; they have been killed. Umar could not control himself and said to Abu Sufyan ; You told a lie; by Allah! O enemy of Allah! All those you have mentioned are alive; and the thing which will make you unhappy is still there. Abu Sufyan said; Our victory today is a counterbalance to yours in the battle of Badr; and in war the victory is always undecided and is shared in turns by the belligerents; and you will find some of your killed men mutilated; but I did not urge my men to do so; yet I do not feel sorry for their deed After that he started reciting cheerfully; O Hubal; be high! 1 On that the Prophet ﷺ said to his companions ; Why dont you answer him back? They said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ What shall we say? He said; Say; Allah is Higher and more Sublime. Then Abu Sufyan said; We have the idol AlUzza; and you have no Uzza. The Muslims started saying; The booty; the booty! Abdullah Bin Jubair said; The Prophet ﷺ had taken a firm promise from me not to leave this place. But his companions refused to stay. So when they refused to stay there ; Allah confused them so that they could not know where to go; and they suffered seventy casualties. It was not profitable to sell them and the agent feared a loss if he sold them; so he hired transport to take them to another city; and he sold them there and made a loss; and the cost of the hire was greater than the principal. Malik said; If the agent can pay the cost of the hire from what the capital realized; his way is that. Whatever portion of the hire is not covered by the principal; the agent must pay it. The investor is not answerable for any of it. That is because the investor only ordered him to trade with the principal. The investor is not answerable for other than the principal.
