Thus does He complete His favours on you, that ye may bow to His Will (in Islam).

When the one who spends wants to give charity; the coat of mail expends so much that it covers his fingertips and obliterates his traces. But when the miser wants to give; the coat of mail contracts and every ring grips the place where it is; and his hands are tied up to his collarbone.Abu Huraira says: I swear that he saw the Messenger trying to expand it but it did not. Tawus said: I heard Abu Huraira said: I heard Abu Huraira illustrating with his hand trying to expand it but it did not. Every time the one who gives thinks of giving in charity; the coat of mail expands until it obliterates his traces; and every time the miser thinks of giving charity; every circle of the coat of mail contracts and sticks to him; and his hand is tied up to his collarbones. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited him to do so until he gave her something. Ali said: I have nothing with me; Messenger of Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said: Give her your coat of mail. So he gave her his coat of mail; and then cohabited with her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Safwan: We have lost some coats of mail from your coats of mail. Should we pay compensation to you? He replied: No. Messenger of Allah; for I have in my heart today what I did not have that day.Abu Dawud said: He lent him before embracing Islam. Then he embraced Islam.
