    Abu Hazim Bin Dinar narrated that some men came to Sahl Bin Saad AlSaidi. They were wondering what kind of wood the Minbar was made of; so they asked him about that. He said: By Allah; I know what it is made of. I saw it the first day it was set up and the first day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat on it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent word to so-and-so - a woman whose name Sahl mentioned - telling her: Tell your carpenter slave to make me something of wood that I can sit on when I speak to the people. So she told him; and he made it from tamarisk wood from AlGhabah a place near AlMadinah. Then he brought it and it was sent to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; who commanded that it be set up here. Then I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ascend it and praying on it; and saying the Takbir while he was on top of it; then he bowed when he was on top of it; then he came down backward and prostrated at the base of the Minbar; then he went back. When he had finished he turned to face the people and said: O people; I only did this so that you can follow me in prayer and learn how I pray.

Thereupon he said: Then it would not be closed despite best efforts. We said to Hudhaifa: Did Umar know the door? Shaqiq one of the narrators said: We dared not ask Hudhaifa about that door. So we requested Masruq to ask him. So he asked him and he said: By that door; he meant Umar.

In the meanwhile; Umar regretted his refusal of Abu Bakr excuse and went to Abu Bakr house and asked if Abu Bakr was there. They replied in the negative. So he came to the Prophet ﷺ and greeted him; but signs of displeasure appeared on the face of the Prophet ﷺ till Abu Bakr pitied Umar ; so he knelt and said twice; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! By Allah! I was more unjust to him than he to me. The Prophet ﷺ said; Allah sent me as a Prophet to you people but you said to me ; You are telling a lie; while Abu Bakr said; He has said the truth; and consoled me with himself and his money. He then said twice; Wont you then give up harming my companion? After that nobody harmed Abu Bakr.

Allah Messenger ﷺ sent for such and such an Ansari woman and Sahl mentioned her name and said to her; Order your slave-carpenter to prepare for me some pieces of wood i.e. pulpit on which I may sit at the time of addressing the people. So she ordered her slave-carpenter and he made it from the tamarisk of the forest and brought it to the woman. The woman sent that pulpit to Allah Messenger ﷺ who ordered it to be placed here. Then I saw Allah Messenger ﷺ praying on it and then bowed on it. Then he stepped back; got down and prostrated on the ground near the foot of the pulpit and again ascended the pulpit. After finishing the prayer he faced the people and said; I have done this so that you may follow me and learn the way I pray.

They replied in the affirmative and said; It is a cloth sheet with woven margins. Sahl went on; She addressed the Prophet ﷺ and said; I have woven it with my hands for you to wear. The Prophet ﷺ took it as he was in need of it; and came to us wearing it as a waist sheet. One of us said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Give it to me to wear. The Prophet ﷺ agreed to give it to him. The Prophet ﷺ sat with the people for a while and then returned home ; wrapped that waist sheet and sent it to him. The people said to that man; You havent done well by asking him for it when you know that he never turns down anybody request. The man replied; By Allah; I have not asked him for it except to use it as my shroud when I die. Sahl added; Later it i.e. that sheet was his shroud.

When the Prophet left; the man was blamed by his companions who said; It was not nice on your part to ask the Prophet for it while you know that he took it because he was in need of it; and you also know that he the Prophet never turns down anybody request that he might be asked for. That man said; I just wanted to have its blessings as the Prophet ﷺ had put it on; so l hoped that I might be shrouded in it.

So; this is what I know about the pulpit. Ahmad Bin Hanbal said; As the Prophet ﷺ was at a higher level than the people; there is no harm according to the above-mentioned Hadith if the Imam is at a higher level than his followers during the prayers.

Then he sat there for some time and when he went to his house ; he folded it and sent it to him. The people said to that man; You have not done a right thing. You asked him for it; though you know that he does not put down anybody request. The man said; By Allah! I have only asked him so that it may be my shroud when I die. Sahl added; Late it was his shroud.

So; she ordered him to make it from the tamarisk of the forest. He brought it to her and she sent it to Allah Messenger ﷺ. Allah Messenger ﷺ ordered it to be placed in the Masjid: so; it was put and he sat on it.

When Fatima saw that the water aggravated the bleeding; she took a piece of a mat; burnt it; and inserted its ashes into the wound so that the blood was congealed and bleeding stopped. His canine tooth got broken on that day; and face was wounded; and his helmet was broken on his head.

Then the Prophet ﷺ addressed us; and after praising and glorifying Allah; he said: Amma Badu; I employ a man from among you to manage some affair of what Allah has put under my custody; and then he comes to me and says; This is your money and this has been given to me as a gift. Why didnt he stay in his father and mother home to see whether he will be given gifts or not? By Allah; not anyone of you takes a thing unlawfully but he will meet Allah on the Day of Resurrection; carrying that thing. I do not want to see any of you carrying a grunting camel or a mooing cow or a bleating sheep on meeting Allah. Then the Prophet ﷺ raised both his hands till the whiteness of his armpits became visible; and he said; O Allah! Havent I have conveyed Your Message ? This amount of Zakat is for you; and this other amount was given to me as a present. The Prophet ﷺ said to him; Why didnt you stay at your father or mother house and see if you would be given presents or not? Then Allah Messenger ﷺ got up in the evening after the prayer; and having testified that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and praised and glorified Allah as He deserved; he said; Now then ! What about an employee whom we employ and then he comes and says; This amount of Zakat is for you; and this amount was given to me as a present? Why didnt he stay at the house of his father and mother to see if he would be given presents or not? By Him in Whose Hand Muhammad soul is; none of you will steal anything of it i.e. Zakat but will bring it by carrying it over his neck on the Day of Resurrection. If it has been a camel; he will bring it over his neck while it will be grunting; and if it has been a cow; he will bring it over his neck ; while it will be mooing; and if it has been a sheep; he will bring it over his neck while it will be bleeding. The Prophet ﷺ added; I have preached you Allah Message. Abu Humaid said; Then Allah Messenger ﷺ raised his hands so high that we saw the whiteness of his armpits.

    Narrated Abu Humaid AlSaidi: The Prophet ﷺ appointed a man of Azd called Ibn AlLutbiyayah to collect sadaqah. The narrator Ibn AlSarh said: He appointed Ibn AlUtbiyah to collect the sadaqah. When he returned he said: This is for you and this was given to me as present. So the Prophet ﷺ stood on the pulpit; and after praising and extolling Allah he said: What is the matter with a collector of sadaqah. We send him to collect sadaqah ; and when he return he says: This is for you and this is a present which was given to me. Why did he not sit in his father or mother house and see whether it would be given to him or not ? Whoever takes any of it will inevitably bring it on the Day of Resurrection; be it a camel which rumbles; an ox which bellows; or sheep which-bleats. Then raising his arms so that we could see where the hair grow under his armpits; he said: O Allah; have I given full information ? O Allah; have I given full information ?
