I said: Commander of the Faithful; you have nothing to do with it; for the door is closed between you and that. He said: Would that door be broken or opened? I said: No; it would be broken. Thereupon he said: Then it would not be closed despite best efforts. We said to Hudhaifa: Did Umar know the door? Thereupon he said: Yes; he knew it for certain just as one knows that night precedes the next day. And I narrated to him something in which there was nothing fabricated. In the meanwhile; Umar regretted his refusal of Abu Bakr excuse and went to Abu Bakr house and asked if Abu Bakr was there. They replied in the negative. So he came to the Prophet ﷺ and greeted him; but signs of displeasure appeared on the face of the Prophet ﷺ till Abu Bakr pitied Umar ; so he knelt and said twice; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! By Allah! I was more unjust to him than he to me. The Prophet ﷺ said; Allah sent me as a Prophet to you people but you said to me ; You are telling a lie; while Abu Bakr said; He has said the truth; and consoled me with himself and his money. He then said twice; Wont you then give up harming my companion? After that nobody harmed Abu Bakr.

Sufyan was asked whether in Jabir narration there was any prohibition of selling fruits before their benefit is evident i.e. no dangers of being spoilt or blighted. He replied that there was none.

He said: I do not find anything. He said: Look for something; even though it should be an iron ring. The man sought it but found nothing. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do you know anything from the Quran ? He said: Yes; I know surah so and so; which he named. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I have given you her in marriage for the part of the Quran which you know.

The man went and returned; saying; No; by Allah; I have not found anything. Allah Apostle said; Go again and look for something; even if it is an iron ring. He went again and returned; saying; No; by Allah; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! I could not find even an iron ring; but this is my Izar waist sheet. He had no rida. He added; I give half of it to her. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; What will she do with your Izar? If you wear it; she will be naked; and if she wears it; you will be naked. So that man sat down for a long while and then got up to depart. When Allah Messenger ﷺ saw him going; he ordered that he be called back. When he came; the Prophet ﷺ said; How much of the Quran do you know? He said; I know such Surat and such Sura; counting them. The Prophet ﷺ said; Do you know them by heart? He replied; Yes. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go; I marry her to you for that much of the Quran which you have.

Abu Bakr replied in the affirmative and led the prayer. Allah Messenger ﷺ came while the people were still praying and he entered the rows of the praying people till he stood in the first row. The people clapped their hands. Abu Bakr never glanced sideways in his prayer but when the people continued clapping; Abu Bakr looked and saw Allah Messenger ﷺ. Allah Messenger ﷺ beckoned him to stay at his place. Abu Bakr raised his hands and thanked Allah for that order of Allah Messenger ﷺ and then he retreated till he reached the first row. Allah Messenger ﷺ went forward and led the prayer. When Allah Messenger ﷺ finished the prayer; he said; O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from staying when I ordered you to do so? Abu Bakr replied; How can Ibn Abi Quhafa Abu Bakr dare to lead the prayer in the presence of Allah Messenger ﷺ ? Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Why did you clap so much? If something happens to anyone during his prayer he should say Subhan Allah. If he says so he will be attended to; for clapping is for women.

When Allah Messenger ﷺ returned to his camp and when the pagans returned to their camp; somebody talked about a man amongst the companions of Allah Messenger ﷺ who would follow and kill with his sword any pagan going alone. He said; Nobody did his job i.e. fighting so properly today as that man. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Indeed; he is amongst the people of the Hell Fire. A man amongst the people said; I shall accompany him to watch what he does Thus he accompanied him; and wherever he stood; he would stand with him; and wherever he ran; he would run with him. Then the brave man got wounded seriously and he decided to bring about his death quickly. He planted the blade of the sword in the ground directing its sharp end towards his chest between his two breasts. Then he leaned on the sword and killed himself. The other man came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; I testify that you are Allah Messenger ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ asked; What has happened? He replied; It is about the man whom you had described as one of the people of the Hell Fire. The people were greatly surprised at what you said; and I said; I will find out his reality for you. So; I came out seeking him. He got severely wounded; and hastened to die by slanting the blade of his sword in the ground directing its sharp end towards his chest between his two breasts. Then he eased on his sword and killed himself. when Allah Messenger ﷺ said; A man may seem to the people as if he were practising the deeds of the people of Paradise while in fact he is from the people of the Hell Fire; another may seem to the people as if he were practicing the deeds of the people of Hell Fire ; while in fact he is from the people of Paradise.

He informed us that Zaid Bin Thabit informed him; that the Prophet ﷺ dictated: Not equal among the believers are those who sit and the Mujahidin in the cause of Allah. He said: So Ibn Umm Maktum came and he was dictating to me that he said: O Messenger of Allah! By Allah! If I were capable of Jihad then I would participate in Jihad. And he was a blind a man. So Allah revealed to His Messenger ﷺ - while his thigh was against my thigh - and it became so heavy that I was worried it was about to fracture my thigh. Then he was relieved of it; so Allah had revealed to him: Except those who are disabled.

  Narrated Sahl Bin Saad AlSaidi: The news about the differences amongst the people of Bani Amr Bin Auf reached Allah Messenger ﷺ and so he went to them along with some of his companions to effect a reconciliation between them. Allah Messenger ﷺ was delayed there; and the time of the prayer was due. Bilal went to Abu Bakr and said to him; Allah Messenger ﷺ has been delayed there and the time of prayer is due. So will you lead the people in prayer? Abu Bakr said; Yes; if you wish. Bilal pronounced the Iqama and Abu Bakr; went forward and said Takbir for the people. In the meantime Allah Messenger ﷺ came crossing the rows of the praying people and stood in the first row and the people started clapping. Abu Bakr; would never glance sideways in his prayer but when the people clapped much he looked back and ﷺ Allah Messenger ﷺ. Allah Messenger ﷺ beckoned him to carry on the prayer. Abu Bakr raised his hands and thanked Allah; and retreated till he reached the first row. Allah Messenger ﷺ went forward and led the people in the prayer. When he completed the prayer he faced the people and said; O people! Why did you start clapping when something unusual happened to you in the prayer? Clapping is only for women. So whoever amongst you comes across something in the prayer should say; Subhan-Allah for there is none who will not turn round on hearing him saying Subhan-Allah. O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from leading the people in the prayer when I beckoned you to do so? Abu Bakr replied; How dare the son of Abu Quhafa lead the prayer in the presence of Allah Messenger ﷺ ?

  Narrated Sahl Bin Saad AlSaidi: There was some quarrel sighting among Bani Amr; and when this news reached the Prophet; he offered the Zuhr prayer and went to establish peace among them. In the meantime the time of Asr prayer was due; Bilal pronounced the Adhan and then the Iqama for the prayer and requested Abu Bakr to lead the prayer and Abu Bakr went forward. The Prophet ﷺ arrived while Abu Bakr was still praying. He entered the rows of praying people till he stood behind Abu Bakr in the first row. The people started clapping; and it was the habit of Abu Bakr that whenever he stood for prayer; he never glanced side-ways till he had finished it; but when Abu Bakr observed that the clapping was not coming to an end; he looked and saw the Prophet ﷺ standing behind him. The Prophet ﷺ beckoned him to carry on by waving his hand. Abu Bakr stood there for a while; thanking Allah for the saying of the Prophet ﷺ and then he retreated; taking his steps backwards. When the Prophet saw that; he went ahead and led the people in prayer. When he finished the prayer; he said; O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from carrying on with the prayer after I beckoned you to do so? Abu Bakr replied; It does not befit the son of Abi Quhafa to lead the Prophet ﷺ in prayer. O Aasi m! Please ask Allah Messenger ﷺ about this matter on my behalf. Aasi m asked the Prophet ﷺ but the Prophet disliked the question and disapproved of it. Aasi m returned and informed Uwaimir that the Prophet disliked that type of question. Uwaimir said; By Allah; I will go personally to the Prophet. Uwaimir came to the Prophet ﷺ when Allah had already revealed Quranic Verses in that respect ; after Aasi m had left the Prophet ﷺ. So the Prophet ﷺ said to Uwaimir; Allah has revealed Quranic Verses regarding you and your wife. The Prophet ﷺ then called for them; and they came and carried out the order of Lian. Then Uwaimir said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Now if I kept her with me; I would be accused of telling a lie. So Uwaimir divorced her although the Prophet ﷺ did not order him to do so. Later on this practice of divorcing became the tradition of couples involved in a case of Lian. The Prophet ﷺ said to the people. Wait for her! If she delivers a red short small child like a Wahra a short red animal. then I will be of the opinion that he Uwaimir has told a lie but if she delivered a black big-eyed one with big buttocks; then I will be of the opinion that he has told the truth about her. If I should now keep my wife with me; then I have told a lie. Then he pronounced his decision to divorce her thrice before Allah Apostle ordered him to do so. The Prophet asked him; Have you got anything? He said; No. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go and search for something; even if it were an iron ring. The man went and searched and then returned saying; I could not find anything; not even an iron ring. Then the Prophet ﷺ said; Do you know something of the Quran by heart ? He replied; I know by heart such Surat and such Sura. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go! I have married her to you for what you know of the Quran by heart.
