Thereupon he said: Then it would not be closed despite best efforts. We said to Hudhaifa: Did Umar know the door? Thereupon he said: Yes; he knew it for certain just as one knows that night precedes the next day. And I narrated to him something in which there was nothing fabricated. Shaqiq one of the narrators said: We dared not ask Hudhaifa about that door. So we requested Masruq to ask him. So he asked him and he said: By that door; he meant Umar.

I talked to him harshly and then regretted that; and requested him to forgive me; but he refused. This is why I have come to you. The Prophet ﷺ said thrice; O Abu Bakr! May Allah forgive you. In the meanwhile; Umar regretted his refusal of Abu Bakr excuse and went to Abu Bakr house and asked if Abu Bakr was there. They replied in the negative. So he came to the Prophet ﷺ and greeted him; but signs of displeasure appeared on the face of the Prophet ﷺ till Abu Bakr pitied Umar ; so he knelt and said twice; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! By Allah! I was more unjust to him than he to me. The Prophet ﷺ said; Allah sent me as a Prophet to you people but you said to me ; You are telling a lie; while Abu Bakr said; He has said the truth; and consoled me with himself and his money. He then said twice; Wont you then give up harming my companion? After that nobody harmed Abu Bakr.

Ibn Umar said; Come along; I will inform you and explain to you what you have asked. As for the flight of Uthman on the day of Uhud; I testify that Allah forgave him. As regards his absence from the Badr battle ; he was married to the daughter of Allah Messenger ﷺ and she was ill; so the Prophet ﷺ said to him; You will have such reward as a man who has fought the Badr battle will get; and will also have the same share of the booty. As for his absence from the Ridwan Pledge of allegiance if there had been anybody more respected by the Meccans than Uthman Bin Affan; the Prophet would surely have sent that man instead of Uthman. So the Prophet ﷺ sent him i.e. Uthman to Mecca and the Ridwan Pledge of allegiance took place after Uthman had gone to Mecca. The Prophet raised his right hand saying. This is the hand of Uthman; and clapped it over his other hand and said; This is for Uthman. Ibn Umar then said to the man ; Go now; after taking this information.

Uthman replied: When the verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet ﷺ ; he called someone to write them down for him and said to him: Put this verse in the surah in which such and such has been mentioned; and when one or two verses were revealed; he used to say similarly regarding them. Surah AlAnfal is the first surah that was revealed at Medina; and Surah AlBaraah was revealed last in the Quran; and its contents were similar to those of AlAnfal. I; therefore; thought that it was a part of AlAnfal. Hence I put them in the category of AlSabu AlTiwal the seven lengthy surahs ; and I did not write In the name of Allah; the Compassionate; the Merciful between them.

The man said; Allahu Akbar! Ibn Umar said; Let me explain to you all these three things. As for his flight on the day of Uhud; I testify that Allah has excused him and forgiven him; and as for his absence from the battle of Badr; it was due to the fact that the daughter of Allah Messenger ﷺ was his wife and she was sick then. Allah Messenger ﷺ said to him; You will receive the same reward and share of the booty as anyone of those who participated in the battle of Badr if you stay with her. As for his absence from the AlRidwan pledge of allegiance; had there been any person in Mecca more respectable than Uthman to be sent as a representative. Allah Messenger ﷺ would have sent him instead of him. No doubt; Allah Messenger ﷺ had sent him; and the incident of the AlRidwan pledge of Allegiance happened after Uthman had gone to Mecca. Allah Messenger ﷺ held out his right hand saying; This is Uthman hand. He stroke his other hand with it saying; This pledge of allegiance is on the behalf of Uthman. Then Ibn Umar said to the man; Bear these excuses in mind with you.
