| SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3176 | Narrated Ibn Juraij: Ibn Shihab informed me of Lian and the tradition related to it; referring to the narration of Sahl Bin Sad; the brother of Bani Saidi He said; An Ansari man came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; O Allah Apostle! If a man saw another man with his wife; should he kill him; or what should he do? So Allah revealed concerning his affair what is mentioned in the Holy Quran about the affair of those involved in a case of Lian. The Prophet ﷺ said; Allah has given His verdict regarding you and your wife. So they carried out Lian in the Masjid while I was present there. When they had finished; the man said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! If I should now keep her with me as a wife then I have told a lie about her. Then he divorced her thrice before Allah Messenger ﷺ ordered him; when they had finished the Lian process. So he divorced her in front of the Prophet ﷺ. Ibn Shihab added; After their case; it became a tradition that a couple involved in a case of Lian should be separated by divorce. That lady was pregnant then; and later on her son was called by his mother name. The tradition concerning their inheritance was that she would be his heir and he would inherit of her property the share Allah had prescribed for him. Ibn Shihab said that Sahl Bin Saad AsSaidi said that the Prophet ﷺ said in the above narration ; If that lady delivers a small red child like a lizard; then the lady has spoken the truth and the man was a liar; but if she delivers a child with black eyes and huge lips; then her husband has spoken the truth. | SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6655 | Narrated Abu Qatada: We set out along with the Prophet ﷺ during the year of the battle of Hunain; and when we faced the enemy; the Muslims with the exception of the Prophet ﷺ and some of his companions retreated before the enemy. I saw one of the pagans over-powering one of the Muslims; so I struck the pagan from behind his neck causing his armor to be cut off. The pagan headed towards me and pressed me so forcibly that I felt as if I was dying. Then death took him over and he released me. Afterwards I followed Umar and said to him; What is wrong with the people? He said; It is the Order of Allah. Then the Muslims returned to the battle after the flight and after overcoming the enemy the Prophet sat and said; Whoever had killed an Infidel and has an evidence to this issue; will have the Salb i.e. the belonging of the deceased e.g. clothes; arms; horse; etc. I stood up and said; Who will be my witness? and then sat down. Then the Prophet ﷺ repeated his question. Then the Prophet ﷺ said the same for the third time. I got up and said; Who will be my witness? and then sat down. The Prophet ﷺ asked his former question again. So I got up. The Prophet ﷺ said; What is the matter; O Abu Qatada? So I narrated the whole story; A man said; Abu Qatada has spoken the truth; and the Salb of the deceased is with me; so please compensate Abu Qatada on my behalf. Abu Bakr said; No! By Allah; it will never happen that the Prophet ﷺ will leave a Lion of Allah who fights for the Sake of Allah and His Apostle and give his spoils to you. The Prophet ﷺ said; Abu Bakr has spoken the truth. Give it the spoils back to him O man ! | SahihMuslim-017-001-22104 | Ubaidullah Bin Abu Rafi; the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; said: When Haruria the Khawarij set out and as he was with Ali Bin Abu Talib Allah be pleased with him they said; There is no command but that of Allah. Upon this Ali said: The statement is true but it is intentionally applied to support a wrong cause. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ described their characteristics and I found these characteristics in them. They state the truth with their tongue; but it does not go beyond this part of their bodies and the narrator pointed towards his throat. The most hateful among the creation of Allah is one black man among them Khawarij. One of his hand is like the teat of a goat or the nipple of the breast. When Ali Bin Abu Talib Allah be pleased with him killed them; he said: Search for his dead body. They searched for him; but they did not find it his dead body. Upon this he said: Go and search for him. By Allah; neither I have spoken a lie nor has the lie been spoken to me. Ali said this twice and thrice. They then found him the dead body in a rain. They brought his dead body till they placed it before him Hadrat Ali. Ubaidullah said: And; I was present at that place when this happened and when Ali said about them. | SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25912 | Yahya Bin Yamur said : The first to speak on Divine decree in AlBasrah was Mabad AlJuhani. I and Humaid Bin Abdulrahman AlHimyari proceeded to perform Hajj or Umrah. We said : would that we meet any of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that we could ask him about what they say with regard to divine decree. So Allah helped us to meet Abdullah Bin Umar who was entering the Masjid. So I and my companion surrounded him; and I thought that my companion would entrust me the task of speaking to him. Then I said : Abu Abdulrahman there appeared on our side some people who recite the Quran and are engaged in the hair-splitting of knowledge. They conceive that there is no Divine decree and everything happens freely without predestination. He said : When you meet those people; tell them that I am free from them; and they are free from me. By Him by Whom swears Abdullah Bin Umar; if one of them has gold equivalent to Uhud and he spends it; Allah will not accept it from him until he believes in Divine decree. He then said : Umar Bin AlKhattab transmitted to me a tradition; saying : One day when we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a man with very white clothing and very black hair came up to us. No mark of travel was visible on him; and we did not recognize him. Sitting down beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; leaning his knees against his and placing his hands on his thighs; he said : tell me; Muhammad; about Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said : Islam means that you should testify that there is no god but Allah; and Muhammad is Allahs Apostle; that you should observe prayer; pay Zakat; fast during Ramadan; and perform Hajj to the house i.e.; Kabah ; If you have the means to go. He said : You have spoken the truth. We were surprised at his questioning him and then declaring that he spoke the truth. He said : Now tell me about faith. He replied : It means that you should believe in Allah; his angels; his Books; his Apostles and the last day; and that you should believe in the decreeing both of good and evil. He said : You have spoken the truth. He said : now tell me about doing good ihsan. He replied: It means that you should worship Allah as though you are seeing him; if you are not seeing him; he is seeing you. He said: Now tell me about the hour. He replied : The one who is asked about it is no better informed than the one who is asking. He said : Then tell me about its signs. He replied : That a maidservant should beget her mistress; and that you should see barefooted; naked; poor men and shepherds exalting themselves in buildings. Umar said : He then went away; and I waited for three days; then he said : Do you know who the questioner was; Umar? I replied : Allah and his Apostle know best. | SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-29764 | Abu Qatadah said We went out with the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ in the year of Hunain. And when the armies met; the Muslims suffered a reverse. I saw one of the polytheists prevailing over a Muslim; so I went round him till I came to him from behind and struck him with my sword at the vein between his neck and shoulder. He came towards me and closed with me; so that I felt death was near; but he was overtaken by death and let me go. I then caught upon on Umar Bin AlKhattab and said to him What is the matter with the people? He said It is what Allaah has commanded. Then the people returned and the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ sat down and said If anyone kills a man and can prove it; he will get his spoil. I stood up and said Who will testify for me? I then sat down. He said again If anyone kills a man and can prove it; he will get his spoil. I stood up and said Who will testify for me? I then sat down. He then said the same for the third time. I then stood up. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said What is the matter with you; Abu Qatadah? I told him the story. A man from the people said He has spoken the truth; and I have this spoil with me; so make him agreeable to take something in exchange. Abu Bakr said In that case I swear by Allaah that he must not do so. One of the Allaahs heroes does not fight for Allaah and his Apostle and then give you his spoil. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said He has spoken the truth; hand it over to him. Abu Qatadah said he handed it over to me; I sold the coat of mail and brought a garden among Banu Salamh. | MuwataMalik-017-001-35427 | Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya Ibn Said from Amr Ibn Kathir Ibn Aflah from Abu Muhammad; the mawla of Abu Qatada that Abu Qatada Ibn Ribi said; We went out with the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; in the year of Hunayn. When the armies met; the Muslims were put in disarray. I saw a man from the idol worshippers who had got the better of one of the Muslims; so I circled round and came up behind him; and struck him with a sword on his shoulder-blade. He turned to me and grabbed me so hard that I felt the smell of death in it. Then death overcame him; and he let go of me. He continued; I met Umar Ibn AlKhattab and said to him; What going on with the people? He replied; The Command of Allah. Then the people took hold of the battle and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; Whoever has killed one of the dead and can prove it; can strip him of his personal effects. I stood up and said; Who will testify for me? and then I sat down. The Messenger of Allah repeated; Whoever has killed one of the dead and can prove it; can strip him of his personal effects. I stood up and said; Who will testify for me? then I sat down. Then he repeated his statement a third time; so I stood up; and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; What the matter with you; Abu Qatada? So I related my story to him. A man said; He has spoken the truth; Messenger of Allah. I have the effects of that slain person with me; so give him compensation for it; Messenger of Allah. Abu Bakr said; No; by Allah! He did not intend that one of the lions of Allah should fight for Allah and His Messenger and then give you his spoils. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; He has spoken the truth; hand it over to him. He gave it to me; and I sold the breast-plate and I bought a garden in the area of the Banu Salima with the money.
