So the Messenger of Allah said: Do you have memorized any surahs of the Quran? He said: Yes. So he married him to her on the basis of what he knew of surahs of the Quran.

    Narrated Sahl Bin Sad: On the day of Khaibar; Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Tomorrow I will give this flag to a man through whose hands Allah will give us victory. He loves Allah and His Apostle; and he is loved by Allah and His Apostle. The people remained that night; wondering as to who would be given it. In the morning the people went to Allah Messenger ﷺ and everyone of them was hopeful to receive it i.e. the flag. The Prophet said; Where is Ali Bin Abi Talib? It was said; He is suffering from eye trouble O Allah Apostle. He said; Send for him. Ali was brought and Allah Messenger ﷺ spat in his eye and invoked good upon him. So Ali was cured as if he never had any trouble. Then the Prophet ﷺ gave him the flag. Ali said O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! I will fight with them till they become like us. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Proceed and do not hurry. When you enter their territory; call them to embrace Islam and inform them of Allah Rights which they should observe; for by Allah; even if a single man is led on the right path of Islam by Allah through you; then that will be better for you than the nice red camels.

    Narrated Sahl Bin Sad: Once a tumbler full of milk or water was brought to Allah Messenger ﷺ who drank from it; while on his right side there was sitting a boy who was the youngest of those who were present; and on his left side there were old men. The Prophet ﷺ asked; O boy ! Do you allow me to give the drink to the elder people first ? The boy said; I will not prefer anybody to have my share from you; O Allah Apostle! So; he gave it to the boy.

Then the Prophet ﷺ spat in his eyes and his eyes were cured immediately as if he had never any eye-trouble. Ali said; We will fight with them i.e. infidels till they become like us i.e. Muslims. The Prophet ﷺ said; Be patient; till you face them and invite them to Islam and inform them of what Allah has enjoined upon them. By Allah! If a single person embraces Islam at your hands i.e. through you ; that will be better for you than the red camels.

    Narrated Sahl Bin Sad: The news about the differences amongst the people of Bani Amr Bin Auf at Quba reached Allah Apostle and so he went to them along with some of his companions to affect a reconciliation. Allah Apostle was delayed there and the time for the prayer became due. Bilal came to Abu Bakr! and said; O Abu Bakr! Allah Messenger ﷺ is detained there and the time for the prayer is due. Will you lead the people in prayer? Abu Bakr replied; Yes; if you wish. So Bilal pronounced the Iqama and Abu Bakr went forward and the people said Takbir. In the meantime; Allah Messenger ﷺ came piercing through the rows till he stood in the first row and the people started clapping. Abu Bakr; would never look hither and thither during the prayer but when the people clapped much he looked back and saw Allah Messenger ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ beckoned him to carry on. Abu Bakr raised both his hands; praised Allah and retreated till he stood in the row and Allah Messenger ﷺ went forward and led the people in the prayer. When he had finished the prayer; he addressed the people and said; O people! Why did you start clapping when something happened to you in the prayer? Clapping is for women. Whenever one is confronted with something unusual in the prayer one should say; Sub Han Allah. Then the Prophet looked towards Abu Bakr and asked; What prevented you from leading the prayer when I beckoned you to carry on? Abu Bakr replied; It does not befit the son of AlQuhafa to lead the prayer in the presence of Allah Messenger ﷺ.

The time for the prayer became due but the Prophet ﷺ did not turn up; Bilal pronounced the Adhan i.e. call for the prayer but the Prophet ﷺ did not turn up; so Bilal went to Abu Bakr and said; The time for the prayer is due and the Prophet ﷺ i detained; would you lead the people in the prayer? Abu Bakr replied; Yes; you wish. So; Bilal pronounced the Iqama of the prayer and Abu Bakr went ahead to lead the prayer ; but the Prophet came walking among the rows till he joined the first row. The people started clapping and they clapped too much; and Abu Bakr used not to look hither and thither in the prayer; but he turned round and saw the Prophet ﷺ standing behind him. The Prophet ﷺ beckoned him with his hand to keep on praying where he was. Abu Bakr raised his hand and praised Allah and then retreated till he came in the first row; and the Prophet ﷺ went ahead and lead the people in the prayer. When the Prophet ﷺ finished the prayer; he turned towards the people and said; O people! When something happens to you during the prayer; you start clapping. Really clapping is permissible for women only. If something happens to one of you in his prayer; he should say: Subhan Allah; Glorified be Allah ; for whoever hears him saying so will direct his attention towards him. O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from leading the people in the prayer when I beckoned to you to continue ? Abu Bakr replied; It did not befit the son of Abu Quhafa to lead the prayer in front of the Prophet.

  • Narrated Sahl Bin Sad: There was a man who
    Narrated Sahl Bin Sad: There was a man who fought most bravely of all the Muslims on behalf of the Muslims in a battle Ghazwa in the company of the Prophet. The Prophet ﷺ looked at him and said. If anyone would like to see a man from the people of the Fire; let him look at this brave man. On that; a man from the People Muslims followed him; and he was in that state i.e.; fighting fiercely against the pagans till he was wounded; and then he hastened to end his life by placing his sword between his breasts and pressed it with great force till it came out between his shoulders. Then the man who was watching that person went quickly to the Prophet ﷺ and said; I testify that you are Allah Messenger ﷺ ! The Prophet ﷺ asked him; Why do you say that? He said; You said about so-and-so; If anyone would like to see a man from the people of the Fire; he should look at him. He fought most bravely of all of us on behalf of the Muslims and I knew that he would not die as a Muslim Martyr. So when he got wounded; he hastened to die and committed suicide. There-upon the Prophet ﷺ said; A man may do the deeds of the people of the Fire while in fact he is one of the people of Paradise; and he may do the deeds of the people of Paradise while in fact he belongs to the people of Fire; and verily; the rewards of the deeds are decided by the last actions deeds.

    Narrated Sahl Bin Sad: There was a woman amongst us who had a farm and she used to sow Silq a kind of vegetable on the edges of streams in her farm. On Fridays she used to pull out the Silq from its roots and put the roots in a utensil. Then she would put a handful of powdered barley over it and cook it. The roots of the Silq were a substitute for meat. After finishing the Jumua prayer we used to greet her and she would give us that food which we would eat with our hands; and because of that meal; we used to look forward to Friday.

    Narrated Sahl Bin Sad: There was no name dearer to Ali than his nickname Abu Turab the father of dust. He used to feel happy whenever he was called by this name. Once Allah Messenger ﷺ came to the house of Fatima but did not find Ali in the house. So he asked Where is your cousin? She replied; There was something a quarrel between me and him whereupon he got angry with me and went out without having a midday nap in my house. Allah Messenger ﷺ asked a person to look for him. That person came; and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He Ali is sleeping in the Masjid. So Allah Messenger ﷺ went there and found him lying. His upper body cover had fallen off to one side of his body; and so he was covered with dust. Allah Messenger ﷺ started cleaning the dust from him; saying; Get up; O Abu Turab! Get up; Abu Turab!     Narrated Sahl Bin Sad: We used to be happy on Fridays; for there was an old lady who used to pull out the roots of Silq and put it in a cooking pot with some barley. When we had finished the prayer; we would visit her and she would present that dish before us. So we used to be happy on Fridays because of that; and we never used to take our meals or have a mid-day nap except after the Friday prayer. By Allah; that meal contained no fat.

    Narrated Sahl Bin Sad: We used to be very happy on Friday as an old lady used to cut some roots of the Silq; which we used to plant on the banks of our small water streams; and cook them in a pot of hers; adding to them; some grains of barley. Yaqub; the sub-narrator said; I think the narrator mentioned that the food did not contain fat or melted fat taken from meat. When we offered the Friday prayer we would go to her and she would serve us with the dish. So; we used to be happy on Fridays because of that. We used not to take our meals or the midday nap except after the Jumua prayer i.e. Friday prayer.

    Narrated Sahl Bin Saud AlSaidi: When the helmet broke on the head of the Prophet ﷺ and his face became covered with blood and his incisor tooth broke i.e. during the battle of Uhud ; Ali used to bring water in his shield while Fatima was washing the blood off his face. When Fatima saw that the bleeding increased because of the water; she took a mat of palm leaves ; burnt it; and stuck it the burnt ashes on the wound of Allah Apostle; whereupon the bleeding stopped.

    Narrated Sahl Bin Saud: Uwaimir came to Aasi m Bin Adi who was the chief of Bani Ajlan and said; What do you say about a man who has found another man with his wife? Should he kill him whereupon you would kill him i.e. the husband ; or what should he do? Please ask Allah Messenger ﷺ about this matter on my behalf. Aasi m then went to the Prophet ﷺ and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! And asked him that question but Allah Messenger ﷺ disliked the question; When Uwaimir asked Aasi m about the Prophet answer Aasi m replied that Allah Messenger ﷺ disliked such questions and considered it shameful. Uwaimir then said; By Allah; I will not give up asking unless I ask Allah Messenger ﷺ about it. Uwaimir came to the Prophet and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! A man has found another man with his wife! Should he kill him whereupon you would kill him the husband; in Qisas or what should he do? Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Allah has revealed regarding you and your wife case in the Quran So Allah Messenger ﷺ ordered them to perform the measures of Mulaana according to what Allah had mentioned in His Book. So Uwaimir did Mulaana with her and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! If I kept her I would oppress her. So Uwaimir divorced her and so divorce became a tradition after them for those who happened to be involved in a case of Mulaana. Allah Messenger ﷺ then said; Look! If she Uwaimir wife delivers a black child with deep black large eyes; big hips and fat legs; then I will be of the opinion that Uwaimir has spoken the truth; but if she delivers a red child looking like a Wahra then we will consider that Uwaimir has told a lie against her. Later on she delivered a child carrying the qualities which Allah Messenger ﷺ had mentioned as a proof for Uwaimir claim; therefore the child was ascribed to its mother henceforth.

    Narrated Sahl Bin Saud: When the following verses were revealed: Eat and drink until the white thread appears to you; distinct from the black thread and of dawn was not revealed; some people who intended to fast; tied black and white threads to their legs and went on eating till they differentiated between the two. Allah then revealed the words; of dawn; and it became clear that meant night and day.

    Narrated Sahl Ibn AlHanzaliyah: On the day of Hunayn we travelled with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we journeyed for a long time until the evening came. I attended the prayer along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A horseman came and said: Messenger of Allah; I went before you and climbed a certain mountain where saw Hawazin all together with their women; cattle; and sheep; having gathered at Hunayn. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said: That will be the booty of the Muslims tomorrow if Allah wills. He then asked: Who will be on guard tonight? Anas Ibn Abu Marthad AlGhanawi said: I shall ; Messenger of Allah. He said: Then mount your horse. He then mounted his horse; and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah said to him: Go forward to this ravine till you get to the top of it. We should not be exposed to danger from your side. In the morning the Apostle of of Allah ﷺ came out to his place of prayer; and offered two rakahs. He then said: Have you seen any sign of your horseman? They said: We have not; Messenger of Allah. The announcement of the time for prayer was then made; and while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was saying the prayer; he began to glance towards the ravine. When he finished his prayer and uttered salutation; he said: Cheer up; for your horseman has come. We therefore began to look between the trees in the ravine; and sure enough he had come. He stood beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; saluted him and said: I continued till I reached the top of this ravine where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me; and in the morning I looked down into both ravines but saw no one. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him: Did you dismount during the night? He replied: No; except to pray or to relieve myself. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You have ensured your entry to Paradise. No blame will be attached to you supposing you do not work after it.

    Narrated Sahl Ibn Hanzaliyah: Uyaynah Ibn Housn and Aqra Ibn Habis came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They begged from him. He commanded to give them what they begged. He ordered Muawiyah to write a document to give what they begged. Aqra took his document; wrapped it in his turban; and went away. As for Uyaynah; he took his document and came to the Prophet ﷺ at his home; and said to him: Muhammad; do you see me? I am taking a document to my people; but I do not know what it contains; just like the document of AlMutalammis. Muawiyah informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of his statement. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He who begs from people when he has sufficient is simply asking for a large amount of Hell-fire. AlNufayl a transmitter said elsewhere: embers of Hell. They asked: Messenger of Allah; what is a sufficiency? Elsewhere AlNufayl said: What is a sufficiency which makes begging unfitting? He replied: It is that which would provide a morning and an evening meal. Elsewhere AlNufayl said: It is when one has enough for a day and night; or for a night and a day. He AlNufayl narrated to us this tradition briefly in the words that I have mentioned.

    Narrated Sahl Ibn Hunayf: I felt greatly distressed by the frequent flowing of prostatic fluid. For this reason I used to take a bath very often. I asked the apostle of Allah ﷺ about this. He replied: Ablution will be sufficient for you because of this. I asked: Messenger of Allah; what should I do if it smears my clothes. He replied: It is sufficient if you take a handful of water and sprinkle it on your clothe when you find it has smeared it.

    Narrated Sahl Ibn Hunayf: I passed by a river. I entered it and took a bath in it. When I came out; I had fever. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed about it. He said: Ask Abu Thabit to seek refuge in Allah from that I asked: O my Lord; will the spell be useful? He replied: No; the spell is to be used except for the evil eye or a snake bite or a scorpion sting.Abu Dawud said: Humah means the biting of snakes and sting of the poisonous insects.
