  • Narrated Ubaidullah Bin Abdullah Bin Utbah
Narrated Ubaidullah Bin Abdullah Bin Utbah: It was narrated from Ubaidullah Bin Abdullah Bin Utbah that during the reign of Marwan; Abdullah Bin Amr Bin Uthman; who was a young man; issued a final divorce to the daughter of Saeed Bin Zaid; whose mother was Bint Qais. Her maternal aunt; Fatimah bint Qais; sent word to her telling her to move from the house of Abdullah Bin Amr. Marwan heard of that and he sent word to the daughter of Saeed; telling her to go back to her home; and asking her why she had moved from her home before her Iddah was over? She sent word to him telling him that her maternal aunt had told her to do that. Fatimah bint Qais said that she had been married to Abu Amr Bin Hafs; and when the Messenger of Allah appointed Ali Bin Abi Talib as governor of Yemen; he went out with him and sent word to her that she was divorced with the third Talaq. He told AlHarith Bin Hisham and Ayash Bin Abi Raiah to spend on her. She sent word to AlHarith and Ayash asking them what her husband had told them to spend on her; and they said: By Allah; she has no right to any maintenance from us; unless she is pregnant; and she cannot come into our home without our permission. She said that she came to the Messenger of Allah and told him about that; and he stated that they were correct. Fatimah said: Where should I move to; O Messenger of Allah? He said: Move to the home of Ibn Umm Maktum; the blind man whom Allah; the Mighty and Sublime; named in His Book. Fatimah said: So I observed my Iddah there. He was a man who has lost his sight; so I used to take off my garments in his house; until the Messenger of Allah married me to Usamah Bin Zaid. Marwan criticized her for that and said: I have never heard this Hadith from anyone before you. I will continue to follow the ruling that the people have been following.

The daughter of AlHarith Bin Kuraiz was his wife and she was the mother of Abdullah Bin Amir. There came to him Allah Messenger ﷺ accompanied by Thabit Bin Qais Bin Shammas who was called the orator of Allah Messenger ﷺ. Allah Messenger ﷺ had a stick in his hand then. The Prophet ﷺ stopped before Mousailima and spoke to him. Mousailima said to him; If you wish; we would not interfere between you and the rule; on condition that the rule will be ours after you... The Prophet said; If you asked me for this stick; I would not give it to you. I think you are the same person who was shown to me in a dream. And this is Thabit Bin AlQais who will answer you on my behalf. The Prophet ﷺ then went away. I asked Ibn Abbas about the dream Allah Messenger ﷺ had mentioned. Ibn Abbas said; Someone told me that the Prophet ﷺ said; When I was sleeping; I saw in a dream that two gold bangles were put in my hands; and that frightened me and made me dislike them. Then I was allowed to blow on them; and when I blew at them; both of them flew. Then I interpreted them as two liars who would appear. Narrated Ubaidullah Bin Abdullah: Ibn Abbas said; When the ailment of the Prophet ﷺ became worse; he said; Bring for me writing paper and I will write for you a statement after which you will not go astray. But Umar said; The Prophet is seriously ill; and we have got Allah Book with us and that is sufficient for us. But the companions of the Prophet ﷺ differed about this and there was a hue and cry. On that the Prophet ﷺ said to them; Go away and leave me alone. It is not right that you should quarrel in front of me. Ibn Abbas came out saying; It was most unfortunate a great disaster that Allah Messenger ﷺ was prevented from writing that statement for them because of their disagreement and noise. Note: It is apparent from this Hadith that Ibn Abbas had witnessed the event and came out saying this statement. The truth is not so; for Ibn Abbas used to say this statement on narrating the Hadith and he had not witnessed the event personally. See Fath AlBari Vol. 1; p.220 footnote. She replied; I have no letter with me. We said; Either you take out the letter or else we will take off your clothes. So; she took it out of her braid. We brought the letter to Allah Messenger ﷺ and it contained a statement from Hatib Bin Abi Balta a to some of the Meccan pagans informing them of some of the intentions of Allah Messenger ﷺ. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; O Hatib! What is this? Hatib replied; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Dont hasten to give your judgment about me. Narrated Ubay Ibn Kaab The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commissioned me as a collector of zakat. I visited a man. When he had collected his property of camels; I found that a camel in her second year was due from him. I said to him: Pay a camel in her second year; for she is to be paid as sadaqah zakat by you. He said: That one is not worthy of milking and riding. Here is another camel which is young; grand and fat. So take it. I said to him: I shall not take an animal for which I have not been commanded. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is here near to you. If you like; go to him; and present to him what you presented to me. Do that; if he accepts it from you; I shall accept it; if he rejects it; I shall reject it. He said: I shall do it. He accompanied me and took with him the camel which he had presented to me. We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said to him: Prophet of Allah; your messenger came to me to collect zakat on my property. By Allah; neither the Messenger of Allah nor his messenger has ever seen my property before. I gathered my property camels ; and he estimated that a camel in her second year would be payable by me. But that has neither milk nor is it worth riding. So I presented to him a grand young camel for acceptance as zakat. But he has refused to take her. Look; she is here; I have brought her to you; Messenger of Allah. Take her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: That is what is due from you. If you give voluntarily a better animal Allah will give a reward to you for it. We accept her from you. She is here; Messenger of Allah; I have brought her to you. So take her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then ordered me to take possession of it; and he prayed for a blessing on his property.
