So; I was about to quarrel with him during the prayer but I waited till he finished; then I tied his garment round his neck and seized him by it and brought him to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; I have heard him reciting Surat AlFurqan in a way different to the way you taught it to me. The Prophet ﷺ ordered me to release him and asked Hisham to recite it. When he recited it; Allah s Apostle said; It was revealed in this way. He then asked me to recite it. When I recited it; he said; It was revealed in this way. The Quran has been revealed in seven different ways; so recite it in the way that is easier for you.

    Narrated Umar Bin AlKhattab: I heard Hisham Bin Hakim reciting Surat AlFurqan during the lifetime of Allah Messenger ﷺ ; I listened to his recitation and noticed that he was reciting in a way that Allah Messenger ﷺ had not taught me. I was about to jump over him while He was still in prayer; but I waited patiently and when he finished his prayer; I put my sheet round his neck and pulled him and said; Who has taught you this Surat which I have heard you reciting? Hisham said; Allah Messenger ﷺ taught it to me. I said; You are telling a lie; for he taught it to me in a way different from the way you have recited it! Then I started leading dragged him to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said to the Prophet ; I have heard this man reciting Surat AlFurqan in a way that you have not taught me. The Prophet ﷺ said: O Umar release him! Recite; O Hisham. Hisham recited in the way I heard him reciting. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; It was revealed like this. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Recite; O Umar! I recited in the way he had taught me; whereupon he said; It was revealed like this; and added; The Quran has been revealed to be recited in seven different ways; so recite of it whichever is easy for you. He replied; Allah Messenger ﷺ taught it to me. I said; You have told a lie; for Allah Messenger ﷺ has taught it to me in a different way from yours. So I dragged him to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said to Allah Messenger ﷺ ; I heard this person reciting Surat AlFurqan in a way which you havent taught me! On that Allah Apostle said; Release him; O Umar! Recite; O Hisham! Then he recited in the same way as I heard him reciting. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; It was revealed in this way; and added; Recite; O Umar! I recited it as he had taught me. Allah Messenger ﷺ then said; It was revealed in this way. So I took him; leading him to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! I heard this person reciting Surat AlFurqan in a way that you did not teach me; and you have taught me Surat AlFurqan. The Prophet said; O Hisham; recite! So he recited in the same way as I heard him recite it before. On that Allah Messenger ﷺ said; It was revealed to be recited in this way. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Recite; O Umar! So I recited it as he had taught me. Allah Messenger ﷺ then said; It was revealed to be recited in this way. Allah Apostle added; The Quran has been revealed to be recited in several different ways; so recite of it that which is easier for you.

    Narrated Umar Bin AlKhattab: I passed by Hisham Bin Hakim Bin Hizam while he was reciting Surat AlFurqan during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I listened to his recitation and noticed that he recited it in several different ways; which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had not taught me. I was about to jump over him during his Prayer; but waited until he said the Salam. When he had said the Salam; I strangled him with his upper-garment and said: Who taught you this Surah which I heard you reciting? He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught it to me. I said to him: You lie! By Allah! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me this Surah which you were reciting. I dragged him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah! I heard this one reciting Surat AlFurqan in a manner different from how you taught me; and you taught me Surat AlFurqan. The Prophet ﷺ said: Release him O Umar! Recite O Hisham. So he recited it for him as I had heard him reciting. Then the Prophet ﷺ said to me: This is how it was revealed. Then the Prophet ﷺ said to me; Recite O Umar. So I recited the recitation which the Prophet ﷺ taught me. The Prophet ﷺ said: This is how it was revealed. Then the Prophet ﷺ said Indeed this Quran was revealed in seven modes; so recite of it what is easier for you.

    Narrated Umar Bin AlKhattab: People were sometimes judged by the revealing of a Divine Inspiration during the lifetime of Allah Apostle but now there is no longer any more new revelation. Now we judge you by the deeds you practice publicly; so we will trust and favor the one who does good deeds in front of us; and we will not call him to account about what he is really doing in secret; for Allah will judge him for that; but we will not trust or believe the one who presents to us with an evil deed even if he claims that his intentions were good.

    Narrated Umar Bin AlKhattab: Some Sabi i.e. war prisoners; children and woman only were brought before the Prophet ﷺ and behold; a woman amongst them was milking her breasts to feed and whenever she found a child amongst the captives; she took it over her chest and nursed it she had lost her child but later she found him the Prophet said to us; Do you think that this lady can throw her son in the fire?     Narrated Umar Bin AlKhattab: When Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul died; Allah Messenger ﷺ ﷺ was called upon to offer his funeral prayer. When Allah Messenger ﷺ stood up to offer the prayer; I got up quickly and said; O Allah Apostle! Are you going to pray for Ibn Ubai and he said so and so on such and such occasions? And started mentioning all that he had said. Allah Messenger ﷺ smiled and said; O Umar! Go away from me. When I talked too much he said; I have been given the choice and so I have chosen to offer the prayer. Had I known that he would be forgiven by asking for Allah forgiveness for more than seventy times; surely I would have done so. Umar added : Allah Messenger ﷺ offered his funeral prayer and returned and after a short while the two verses of Surat Bara were revealed: i.e. And never O Muhammad pray for any of them who dies... to the end of the verse rebellion 9.84 - Umar added ; Later I astonished at my daring before Allah Messenger ﷺ on that day. And Allah and His Apostle know better.

    Narrated Umar Bin AlKhattab: When Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul died; Allah Messenger ﷺ was called in order to offer the funeral prayer for him. When Allah Messenger ﷺ got up to offer the prayer I jumped towards him and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Do you offer the prayer for Ibn Ubai although he said so-and-so on such-and-such day? I went on mentioning his sayings. Allah Messenger ﷺ smiled and said; Keep away from me; O Umar! But when I spoke too much to him; he said; I have been given the choice; and I have chosen this ; and if I knew that if I asked forgiveness for him more than seventy times; he would be for given; I would ask it for more times than that. So Allah Messenger ﷺ offered the funeral prayer for him and then left; but he did not stay long before the two Verses of Surat Baraa were revealed; i.e.:- And never O Muhammad pray for anyone of them that dies.... and died in a state of rebellion. 9.84 Later I was astonished at my daring to speak like that to Allah Messenger ﷺ and Allah and His Apostle know best.

    Narrated Umar Ibn Abd AlAziz: AlMughirah Ibn Shubah said: Umar Ibn Abd AlAziz gathered the family of Marwan when he was made caliph; and he said: Fadak belonged to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; and he made contributions from it; showing repeated kindness to the poor of the Banu Hashim from it; and supplying from it the cost of marriage for those who were unmarried. Fatimah asked him to give it to her; but he refused. That is how matters stood during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ till he passed on i.e. died. When Abu Bakr was made ruler he administered it as the Prophet ﷺ had done in his lifetime till he passed on. Then when Umar Ibn AlKhattab was made ruler he administered it as they had done till he passed on. Then it was given to Marwan as a fief; and it afterwards came to Umar Ibn Abd AlAziz. Umar Ibn Abd AlAziz said: I consider I have no right to something which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ refused to Fatimah; and I call you to witness that I have restored it to its former condition; meaning in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.Abu Dawud said: When Umar Bin Abd AlAziz was made caliph its revenue was forty thousand dinars; and when he died its revenue was four hundred dinars. Had he remained alive; it would have been less than it.

We are not to be inherited. They said: Yes; indeed. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to spend from his property on his family; and give the residue as sadaqah alms. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then died; and Abu Bakr ruled for two years. He would deal with it in the same manner as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did. He then mentioned a little from the tradition of Malik Ibn Aws.

    Narrated Umar Ibn AlKhattab: AlAqra; the muadhdhin announcer of Umar Ibn AlKhattab said: Umar sent me to a bishop and I called him. Umar said to him: Do you find me in the Book? He said: Yes. He asked: How do you find me? He said: I find you like a castle. Then he raised a whip to him; saying: What do you mean by castle? He replied: An iron castle and severely trustworthy. He asked: How do you find the one who will come after me? He said: I find him a pious caliph; except that he will prefer his relatives. Umar said: May Allah have mercy on Uthman: He said it three times. He then asked: How do you find the one who will come after him? He replied: I find him like rusty iron. Umar then put his hand on his head; and said: O filthy! O filthy! He said: Commander of the Faithful! He is a pious caliph; but when he is made caliph; the sword will be unsheathed and blood will be shed.Abu Dawud said: Aldafr means filth or evil smell.

    Narrated Umar Ibn AlKhattab: Amr Ibn Aws and AbulShatha reported that Bujalah said: I was secretary to Jaz Ibn Muawiyah; the uncle of Ahnaf Ibn Qays. A letter came to us from Umar one year before his death; saying: Kill every magician; separate the relatives of prohibited degrees from the Magians; and forbid them to murmur before eating. So we killed three magicians in one day; and separated from a Magian husband his wife of a prohibited degree according to the Book of Allah. He prepared abundant food and called them; and placed the sword on his thigh. They ate the food but did not murmur. They threw on the ground one or two mule-loads of silver. Umar did not take jizyah from Magians until Abdulrahman Ibn Awuf witnessed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had taken jizyah from the Magians of Hajar.
