SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1677Narrated Ibn Abbas: A man came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; I saw in a dream; a cloud having shade. Butter and honey were dropping from it and I saw the people gathering it in their hands; some gathering much and some a little. And behold; there was a rope extending from the earth to the sky; and I saw that you the Prophet held it and went up; and then another man held it and went up and after that another third held it and went up; and then after another fourth man held it; but it broke and then got connected again. Abu Bakr said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Let my father be sacrificed for you! Allow me to interpret this dream. The Prophet ﷺ said to him; Interpret it. Abu Bakr said; The cloud with shade symbolizes Islam; and the butter and honey dropping from it; symbolizes the Quran; its sweetness dropping and some people learning much of the Quran and some a little. The rope which is extended from the sky to the earth is the Truth which you the Prophet are following. You follow it and Allah will raise you high with it; and then another man will follow it and will rise up with it and another person will follow it and then another man will follow it but it will break and then it will be connected for him and he will rise up with it. O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Let my father be sacrificed for you! Am I right or wrong? The Prophet replied; You are right in some of it and wrong in some. Abu Bakr said; O Allah Prophet! By Allah; you must tell me in what I was wrong. The Prophet ﷺ said; Do not swear. The Chapter on Mischief In Earth Aldajjal in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Considering the interpretation of a dream invalid in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7265Narrated Aisha: the wife of the Prophet The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah Messenger ﷺ was in the form of true dreams in his sleep; for he never had a dream but it turned out to be true and clear as the bright daylight. Then he began to like seclusions; so he used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship Allah continuously for many nights before going back to his family to take the necessary provision of food for the stay. He come back to his wife Khadija again to take his provision of food likewise; till one day he received the Guidance while he was in the cave of Hira. An Angel came to him and asked him to read. Allah Messenger ﷺ replied; I do not know how to read. The Prophet ﷺ added; Then the Angel held me forcibly and pressed me so hard that I felt distressed. Then he released me and again asked me to read; and I replied; I do not know how to read. Thereupon he held me again and pressed me for the second time till I felt distressed. He then released me and asked me to read; but again I replied. I do not know how to read. Thereupon he held me for the third time and pressed me till I got distressed; and then he released me and said; Read; in the Name of your Lord Who has created all that exists ; has created man out of a clot; Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous. Who has taught the writing by the pen; has taught man that which he knew not. 96.1-5. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ returned with that experience; and the muscles between his neck and shoulders were trembling till he came upon Khadija his wife and said; Cover me! They covered him; and when the state of fear was over; he said to Khadija; O Khadija! What is wrong with me? I was afraid that something bad might happen to me. Then he told her the story. Khadija said; Nay! But receive the good tidings! By Allah; Allah will never disgrace you; for by Allah; you keep good relations with your Kith and kin; speak the truth; help the poor and the destitute; entertain your guests generously and assist those who are stricken with calamities. Khadija then took him to Waraqa Bin Naufil; the son of Khadija paternal uncle. Waraqa had been converted to Christianity in the Pre-lslamic Period and used to write Arabic and write of the Gospel in Arabic as much as Allah wished him to write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight. Khadija said to Waraqa ; O my cousin! Listen to what your nephew is going to say. Waraqa said; O my nephew! What have you seen? The Prophet ﷺ then described whatever he had seen. Waraqa said; This is the same Angel Gabriel who was sent to Moses. I wish I were young. He added some other statement. Allah Messenger ﷺ asked; Will these people drive me out? Waraqa said; Yes; for nobody brought the like of what you have brought; but was treated with hostility. If I were to remain alive till your day when you start preaching. then I would support you strongly. But a short while later Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was paused stopped for a while so that Allah Messenger ﷺ was very much grieved. The Chapter on Revelation And Angles in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prophetic Commentary on the Quran Tafseer of the Prophet in Sahih AlBukhari

He said: Seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the fire; and the trail of Antichrist. They asked: Why is it that; Messenger of Allah? He said: When a man is placed in his grave; an angel comes to him and says to him: Whom did you worship? Allah then guides him and he says: I worshiped Allah. He is then asked: What was your opinion of this man? He replies: He is Allahs servant and His Apostle. He will not then be asked about anything else. He will then be taken to his abode in Hell and will be told: This was your abode in Hell; but Allah protected you and had mercy on you substituted for you an abode in Paradise for it. He will say: Leave me so that I may go and give glad tidings to my family. He will be told: Dwell. When an infidel is placed in his grave; an angel comes to him; reprimands him and asks him: Whom did you worship? He replies: I do not know. In Muwata Malik

Hadith PageArabic TextEnglish TranslationBook and Chapter
MuwataMalik-017-001-34881Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that Marwan Ibn AlHakam wrote to Muawiya Ibn Abi Sufyan to mention to him that a drunkard was brought to him who had killed a man. Muawiya wrote to him to kill him in retaliation for the dead man. Yahya said that Malik said; The best of what I have heard on the interpretation of this ayat; the word of Allah; the Blessed; the Exalted; The free man for the free man and the slave for the slave - these are men and the woman for the woman; Surat 2 ayat 178 is that retaliation is between women as it is between men. The free woman is killed for the free woman as the free man is killed for the free man. The slave-girl is slain for the slave-girl as the slave is slain for the slave. Retaliation is between women as it is between men. That is because Allah; the Blessed; the Exalted; said in His Book; We have written for them in it that it is a life for a life and an eye for an eye; a nose for a nose; and an ear for an ear; and a tooth for a tooth; and for wounds there is retaliation. Surat 5 ayat 48 Allah; the Blessed; the Exalted; mentioned that it is a life for a life. It is the life of a free woman for the life of a free man; and her injury for his injury. Malik said about a man who held a man fast for another man to hit; and he died on the spot; If he held him and he thought that he meant to kill him; the two of them are both killed for him. If he held him and he thought that he meant to beat him as people sometimes do; and he did not think that he meant to kill him; the murderer is slain and the one who held him is punished with a very severe punishment and jailed for a year. There is no killing against him. Malik said about a man who murdered a man intentionally or gouged out his eye intentionally; and then was slain or had his eye gouged out himself before retaliation was inflicted on him; There is no blood-money nor retaliation against him. The right of the one who was killed or had his eye gouged out goes when the thing which he is claiming as retaliation goes. It is the same with a man who murders another man intentionally and then the murderer dies. When the murderer dies; the one seeking blood-revenge has nothing of blood- money or anything else. That is by the word of Allah; the Blessed the Exalted; Retaliation is written for you in killing. The free man for the free man and the slave for the slave. Malik said; He only has retaliation against the one who killed him. If the man who murdered him dies; he has no retaliation or blood-money. Malik said; There is no retaliation held against a free man by a slave for any injury. The slave is killed for the free man when he intentionally murders him. The free man is not slain for the slave; even if he murders him intentionally. It is the best of what I have heard. The Chapter on Retaliation In Crimes And Felonies in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hair in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35454Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi from Abdullah Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; held a race between horses which had been made lean by training; from AlHafya to Thaniyatu-lWada. He held a race between horses which had not been made lean from the Thaniya a mountain pass near Madina to the Masjid of the Banu Zurayq. Abdullah Ibn Umar was among those who raced them. The Chapter on Horses And Racing in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Divorce in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35464Yahya related to me from Malik that he had asked Ibn Shihab whether someone doing itikaf could go into a house to relieve himself; and he said; Yes; there is no harm in that. Malik said; The situation that we are all agreed upon here is that there is no disapproval of anyone doing itikaf in a Masjid where jumua is held. The only reason I see for disapproving of doing itikaf in a Masjid where jumua is not held is that the man doing itikaf would have to leave the Masjid where he was doing itikaf in order to go to jumua; or else not go there at all. If; however; he is doing itikaf in a Masjid where jumua is not held; and he does not have to go to jumua in any other Masjid; then I see no harm in him doing itikaf there; because Allah; the Blessed and Exalted; says; While you are doing itikaf in Masjids; and refers to all Masjids in general; without specifying any particular kind. Malik continued; Accordingly; it is permissiblefor a man to do itikaf in a Masjid where jumua is not held if he does not have to leave it to go to a Masjid where jumua is held. Malik said; A person doing itikaf should spend the night only in the Masjid where he is doing itikaf; except if his tent is in one of the courtyards of the Masjid. I have never heard that someone doing itikaf can put up a shelter anywhere except in the Masjid itself or in one of the courtyards of the Masjid. Part of what shows that he must spend the night in the Masjid is the saying of Aisha; When the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; was doing itikaf; he would only go into the house to relieve himself. Nor should he do itikaf on the roof of the Masjid or in the minaret. Malik said; The person who is going to do itikaf should enter the place where he wishes to do itikaf before the sun sets on the night when he wishes to begin his itikaf; so that he is ready to begin the itikaf at the beginning of the night when he is going to start his itikaf. A person doing itikaf should be occupied with his itikaf; and not turn his attention to other things which might occupy him; such as trading or whatever. There is no harm; however; if some one doing itikaf tells some one to do something for him regarding his estate; or the affairs of his family; or tells someone to sell some property of his; or something else that does not occupy him directly. There is no harm in him arranging for someone else to do that for him if it is a simple matter. Malik said; I have never heard any of the people of knowledge mentioning any modification as far as how to do itikaf is concerned. Itikaf is an act of ibada like the prayer; fasting; the hajj; and such like acts; whether they are obligatory or voluntary. Anyone who begins doing any of these acts should do them according to what has come down in the sunna. He should not start doing anything in them that the muslims have not done; whether it is a modification that he imposes on others; or one that he begins doing himself. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; practised itikaf; and the muslims know what the sunna of itikaf is. Malik said; Itikaf and jiwar are the same; and Itikaf is the same for a village-dweller as it is for a nomad. The Chapter on Ramadan And Fasting And Kabah in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Divorce in Muwata Malik
