This day have those who reject faith given up all hope of your religion: yet fear them not but fear Me. Hunger In Sahih AlBukhari

Hadith PageArabic TextEnglish TranslationBook and Chapter
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2153Narrated Abu Huraira: By Allah except Whom none has the right to- be worshipped; sometimes I used to lay sleep on the ground on my liver abdomen because of hunger; and sometimes I used to bind a stone over my belly because of hunger. One day I sat by the way from where they the Prophet ﷺ and h is companions used to come out. When Abu Bakr passed by; I asked him about a Verse from Allah Book and I asked him only that he might satisfy my hunger; but he passed by and did not do so. Then Umar passed by me and I asked him about a Verse from Allah Book; and I asked him only that he might satisfy my hunger; but he passed by without doing so. Finally Abu AlQasim the Prophet ﷺ passed by me and he smiled when he saw me; for he knew what was in my heart and on my face. He said; O Aba Hirr Abu Huraira ! I replied; Labbaik; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said to me; Follow me. He left and I followed him. Then he entered the house and I asked permission to enter and was admitted. He found milk in a bowl and said; From where is this milk? They said; It has been presented to you by such-and-such man or by such and such woman. He said; O Aba Hirr! I said; Labbaik; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said; Go and call the people of Suffa to me. These people of Suffa were the guests of Islam who had no families; nor money; nor anybody to depend upon; and whenever an object of charity was brought to the Prophet ﷺ ; he would send it to them and would not take anything from it; and whenever any present was given to him; he used to send some for them and take some of it for himself. The order off the Prophet upset me; and I said to myself; How will this little milk be enough for the people of AlSuffa? thought I was more entitled to drink from that milk in order to strengthen myself; but behold! The Prophet ﷺ came to order me to give that milk to them. I wondered what will remain of that milk for me; but anyway; I could not but obey Allah and His Apostle so I went to the people of AlSuffa and called them; and they came and asked the Prophet permission to enter. They were admitted and took their seats in the house. The Prophet ﷺ said; O Aba Hirr! I said; Labbaik; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said; Take it and give it to them. So I took the bowl of Milk and started giving it to one man who would drink his fill and return it to me; whereupon I would give it to another man who; in his turn; would drink his fill and return it to me; and I would then offer it to another man who would drink his fill and return it to me. Finally; after the whole group had drunk their fill; I reached the Prophet ﷺ who took the bowl and put it on his hand; looked at me and smiled and said. O Aba Hirr! I replied; Labbaik; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said; There remain you and I. I said; You have said the truth; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said; Sit down and drink. I sat down and drank. He said; Drink; and I drank. He kept on telling me repeatedly to drink; till I said; No. by Allah Who sent you with the Truth; I have no space for it in my stomach. He said; Hand it over to me. When I gave him the bowl; he praised Allah and pronounced Allah Name on it and drank the remaining milk. The Chapter on Boiling Drinks in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on How the Prophet and his Companions used to live in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3026Narrated Abu Huraira: Once while I was in a state of fatigue because of severe hunger ; I met Umar Bin AlKhattab; so I asked him to recite a verse from Allah Book to me. He entered his house and interpreted it to me. Then I went out and after walking for a short distance; I fell on my face because of fatigue and severe hunger. Suddenly I saw Allah Apostle standing by my head. He said; O Abu Huraira! I replied; Labbaik; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ; and Sadaik! Then he held me by the hand; and made me get up. Then he came to know what I was suffering from. He took me to his house; and ordered a big bowl of milk for me. I drank thereof and he said; Drink more; O Abu Hirr! So I drank again; whereupon he again said; Drink more. So I drank more till my belly became full and looked like a bowl. Afterwards I met Umar and mentioned to him what had happened to me; and said to him; Somebody; who had more right than you; O Umar; took over the case. By Allah; I asked you to recite a Verse to me while I knew it better than you. On that Umar said to me; By Allah; if I admitted and entertained you; it would have been dearer to me than having nice red camels. The Chapter on Boiling Drinks in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Eat of the lawful things that We have provided you with in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6450Narrated Jabir Bin Abdullah: When the Trench was dug; I saw the Prophet ﷺ in the state of severe hunger. So I returned to my wife and said; Have you got anything to eat ; for I have seen Allah Messenger ﷺ in a state of severe hunger. She brought out for me; a bag containing one Sa of barley; and we had a domestic she animal i.e. a kid which I slaughtered then; and my wife ground the barley and she finished at the time I finished my job i.e. slaughtering the kid. Then I cut the meat into pieces and put it in an earthenware cooking pot; and returned to Allah Messenger ﷺ. My wife said; Do not disgrace me in front of Allah Apostle and those who are with him. So I went to him and said to him secretly; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! I have slaughtered a animal i.e. kid of ours; and we have ground a Sa of barley which was with us. So please come; you and another person along with you. The Prophet ﷺ raised his voice and said; O people of Trench ! Jabir has prepared a meal so let us go. Allah Messenger ﷺ said to me; Dont put down your earthenware meat pot from the fireplace or bake your dough till I come. So I came to my house and Allah Messenger ﷺ too; came; proceeding before the people. When I came to my wife; she said; May Allah do so-and-so to you. I said; I have told the Prophet ﷺ of what you said. Then she brought out to him i.e. the Prophet ﷺ the dough; and he spat in it and invoked for Allah Blessings in it. Then he proceeded towards our earthenware meat-pot and spat in it and invoked for Allah Blessings in it. Then he said to my wife. Call a lady-baker to bake along with you and keep on taking out scoops from your earthenware meat-pot; and do not put it down from its fireplace. They were onethousand who took their meals ; and by Allah they all ate; and when they left the food and went away; our earthenware pot was still bubbling full of meat as if it had not decreased; and our dough was still being baked as if nothing had been taken from it.The Chapter on Animal Sacrifice Meat in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The Ghazwa of AlKhandaq or AlAhzab Battle in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6691Narrated Jabir Bin Abdullah: Allah Messenger ﷺ sent us who were three-hundred riders under the command of Abu Ubaida Bin AlJarrah in order to watch the caravan of the Quraish pagans. We stayed at the seashore for half a month and were struck with such severe hunger that we ate even the Khabt i.e. the leaves of the Salam; a thorny desert tree ; and because of that; the army was known as Jaish AlKhabt. Then the sea threw out; an animal i.e. a fish called AlAnbar and we ate of that for half a month; and rubbed its fat on our bodies till our bodies returned to their original state i.e. became strong and healthy. Abu Ubaida took one of its ribs; fixed it on the ground; then he went to the tallest man of his companions to let him pass under the rib. Once Sufyan said; He took a rib from its parts and fixed it; and then took a man and camel and they passed from underneath it without touching it. Jabir added: There was a man amongst the people who slaughtered three camels and then slaughtered another three camels and then slaughtered other three camels; and then Abu Ubaida forbade him to do so. Narrated Abu Salih: Qais Bin Saad said to his father. I was present in the army and the people were struck with severe hunger. He said; You should have slaughtered camels for them. Qais said; I did slaughter camels but they were hungry again. He said; You should have slaughtered camels again. Qais said; I did slaughter camels again but the people felt hungry again. He said; You should have slaughtered camels again. Qais said; I did slaughter camels again; but the people again felt hungry. He said; You should have slaughtered camels again. SahihMuslim-017-001-21093Abu Huraira reported that Allah Messenger ﷺ went out of his house one day or one night; and there he found Abu Bakr and Umar also. He said: What has brought you out of your houses at this hour? They said: Allah Messenger; it is hunger. Thereupon he said: By Him in Whose Hand is my life; what has brought you out has brought me out too; get up. They got up along with him. and all of them came to the house of an Ansari; but he was not at home. When his wife saw him she said: Most welcome; and Allah Messenger ﷺ said to her: Where is so and so? She said: He has gone to get some fresh water for us. When the Ansari came and he saw Allah Messenger ﷺ and his two Companions; he said: Praise be to Allah; no one has more honourable guests today than I have. He then went out and brought them a bunch of ripe dates; dry dates and fresh dates; and said: Eat some of them. He then took hold of his long knife for slaughtering a goat or a sheep. Allah Messenger ﷺ said to him: Beware of killing a milch animal. He slaughtered a sheep for them and after they had eaten of it and of the bunch and drank; and when they had taken their fill and had been fully satisfied with the drink; Allah Messenger ﷺ said to Abu Bakr and Umar: By Him in Whose Hand is my life; you will certainly be questioned about this bounty on the Day of judgment. Hunger brought you out of your house; then you did not return until this bounty came to you.The Chapter on Food And Sheeps in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 20 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-21103Anas Bin Malik reported: I visited Allah Messenger ﷺ one day and found him sitting in the company of his Companions and talking to them; and he had tied his belly with a bandage. Usama said: I am in doubt whether there was stone on that his belly or not. I asked some of his Companions why Allah Messenger ﷺ had bandaged his belly. They said: He has done that to relieve his hunger. I went to Abu Talha ; the husband of Umm Sulaim; the daughter of Milhan; and said to him: Father; I saw Allah Messenger ﷺ having bandaged his belly. I asked some of his Companions the reason of it and they said that it was due to hunger. Abu Talha came to mv mother and said: Is there anything? She said: Yes; I have some pieces of bread with me and some dates. If Allah Messenger ﷺ comes to us alone we can feed him to his fill; but if someone comes along with him this would be insufficient for them. The rest of the hadith is the same. The Chapter on Food And Sheeps in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 20 in Sahih Muslim

SunanAlTermithi-017-001-9197Abu AlDarda narrated that the Messenger of Allah s.a.w said: The inhabitants of the Fire will suffer from a hunger equal to the punishment they experience; so they will seek relief; and be given to eat of Dari; which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. So they will again seek food to relieve their hunger ; and they will be given to eat of a food that causes one to choke. Then they will remember that they used remedy for choking in the world by drinking something. So they will seek relief from drink. Then they will be given Hamim with meat hooks; so when it comes toward their faces it melts their faces; and when it enters their insides it cuts up what is inside of them. So some of them say: Call the keepers of Hell so they say: Did there not come to you your Messengers with clear signs? They say: Yes! They say: Then call as you like. And the invocation of the disbelievers is nothing but in vain. He said: They will say: Call Malik. So they say: O Malik! Let your Lord make an end of us! He said: So he answers them: Verily you shall abide forever. AlAmash said: I was informed that there is a thousand years between their calling him; and Malik answering them. He said: They say: Call your Lord; for there is none better than your Lord. So they will say: Our Lord! Our wretchedness over came us; and we were an erring people. Our Lord! Bring us out of this. If we ever return to evil ; indeed we shall be wrong doers. He said: So the reply to them is: You remain in it in ignominy! And do not speak to Me. He said: So with that; they loose hope of any good; and with that they are taken to moaning; despair and severe ruin. The Chapter on Charity To Save Oneself From Hell Fire in HodHood Indexing, The Book on the Description of Hellfire in Sunan AlTermithi

And By Allah; the One Whom there is none worthy of worship besides Him I would lay on the ground on my liver side due to hunger; And I would fasten a stone to my stomach out of hunger. One day I sat by the way that they the Companions use to come out through. Abu Bakr passed and so I asked him about an Ayah from Allah Book; not asking him except that he might tell me to follow him for something to eat. But he passed on without doing so. Then Umar passed; so I asked him about an Ayah from Allah Book; not asking him except that he might tell me to follow him. But he passed on without doing so. Then Ab AlQasim s.a.w passed; and he smiled when he saw me; and said: Abu Huraira? I said: I am here O Messenger of Allah! He said: Come along. He continued and I followed him; he entered his house; so I sought permission to enter; and he permitted me. He found a bowl of milk and said: Where did this milk come from? It was said: It was a gift to us from so and so. So the Messenger of Allah s.a.w said: O Abu Huraira I said: I am here O Messenger of Allah! He said: Go to the people of AlSuffah to invite them. - Now; they were the guests of the people of Islam; they had nothing of people nor wealth to rely upon. Whenever some charity was brought to him; he would send it to them without using any of it. And when a gift was given to him s.a.w ; he would send for them to participate and share with him in it. I became upset about that; and I said to myself : What good will this bowl be among the people of AlSuffah and I am the one bringing it to them? Then he ordered me to circulate it among them So I wondered what of it would reach me from it; and I hoped that I would get from it what would satisfy me. But I would certainly not neglect to obey Allah and obey His Messenger; so I went to them and invited them. When they entered upon him they sat down. He said: Abu Huraira; take the bowl and give it to them. So I gave it to a man who drank his fill; then he gave it to another one; until it ended up with the Messenger of Allah s.a.w ; and all of the people had drank their fill. The Messenger of Allah s.a.w took the bowl; put it on his hand;then raised his head. He smiled and said: Abu Huraira; drink. So I drank; then he said: Drink. I kept drinking and he kept on saying; Drink. Then I said: By the One Who sent you with the truth! I have no more space for it. So he took the bowl and praised Allah; mentioned His Name and drank.
