Enter not the Prophet's houses, - until leave is given you, - for a meal, (and then) not (so early as) to wait for its preparation: but when ye are invited, enter; and when ye have taken your meal, disperse, without seeking familiar talk. Such (behaviour) annoys the Prophet: he is ashamed to dismiss you, but Allah is not ashamed (to tell you) the truth. And when ye ask (his ladies) for anything ye want, ask them from before a screen: that makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs. Nor is it right for you that ye should annoy Allah's Messenger, or that ye should marry his widows after him at any time. Truly such a thing is in Allah's sight an enormity.

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1513 | Narrated Zahdam AlJarmi: We were sitting with Abu Mousa AlAshsari; and as there were ties of friendship and mutual favors between us and his tribe. His meal was presented before him and there was chicken meat in it. Among those who were present there was a man from Bani Taimillah having a red complexion as a non-Arab freed slave; and that man did not approach the meal. Abu Mousa said to him; Come along! I have seen Allah Messenger ﷺ eating of that i.e.; chicken. The man said; I have seen it chickens eating something I regarded as dirty; and so I have taken an oath that I shall not eat its meat chicken. Abu Mousa said; Come along! I will inform you about it i.e.; your oath. Once we went to Allah Messenger ﷺ in company with a group of Ashairiyin; asking him for mounts while he was distributing some camels from the camels of Zakat. Ayoub said; I think he said that the Prophet was in an angry mood at the time. The Prophet ﷺ said; By Allah! I will not give you mounts; and I have nothing to mount you on. After we had left; some camels of booty were brought to Allah Apostle and he said; Where are those Ashariyin? Where are those Ashariyin? So we went to him and he gave us five very fat good-looking camels. We mounted them and went away; and then I said to my companions; We went to Allah Messenger ﷺ to give us mounts; but he took an oath that he would not give us mounts; and then later on he sent for us and gave us mounts; perhaps Allah Messenger ﷺ forgot his oath. By Allah; we will never be successful; for we have taken advantage of the fact that Allah Messenger ﷺ forgot to fulfill his oath. So let us return to Allah Messenger ﷺ to remind him of his oath. We returned and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! We came to you and asked you for mounts; but you took an oath that you would not give us mounts but later on you gave us mounts; and we thought or considered that you have forgotten your oath. The Prophet ﷺ said; Depart; for Allah has given you Mounts. By Allah; Allah willing; if I take an oath and then later find another thing better than that; I do what is better; and make expiation for the oath. two other narrations through Zahdam as above | The Chapter on Journeys And Travel And Oaths in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on To make expiation for ones oath in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1912 | Narrated Anas: When the Prophet ﷺ married Zainab; the people came and were offered a meal; and then they sat down after finishing their meals and started chatting. The Prophet ﷺ showed as if he wanted to get up; but they did not get up. When he noticed that; he got up; and some of the people also got up and went away; while some others kept on sitting. When the Prophet ﷺ returned to enter; he found the people still sitting; but then they got up and left. So I told the Prophet ﷺ of their departure and he came and went in. I intended to go in but the Prophet ﷺ put a screen between me and him; for Allah revealed:- O you who believe! She used to pull out the silq a kind of vegetable from its roots and put it in a cooking pot; adding some powdered barley over it and cook it. After finishing the Jumua Friday prayer we used to pass by her and greet her; whereupon she would present us with that meal; so we used to feel happy because of that. One day he went to her house and she offered him a meal; and after that he slept; and then woke up smiling. She Um Haram said; I asked him; What makes you laugh; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ? He said; Some people of my followers were displayed before me as warriors fighting for Allah Cause and sailing over this sea; kings on thrones; or said; like kings on thrones. The narrator; Ishaq is in doubt about it. I Um Haram said; O Allah Apostle! Invoke Allah that He may make me one of them. He invoked Allah for her and then lay his head and slept again and then woke up smiling. I asked; What makes you laugh; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ? He said; Some people of my followers were displayed before me as warriors fighting for Allah Cause and sailing over this sea; kings on the thrones; or said; like kings on the thrones. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2056 | Narrated Zahdam: There was a relation of love and brotherhood between this tribe of Jarm and AlAshariyin. Once we were with Abu Mousa AlAshari; and then a meal containing chicken was brought to Abu Mousa; and there was present; a man from the tribe of Taimillah who was of red complexion as if he were from non-Arab freed slaves. Abu Mousa invited him to the meal. He said; I have seen chickens eating dirty things; so I deemed it filthy and took an oath that I would never eat chicken. On that; Abu Mousa said; Get up; I will narrate to you about that. Once a group of the Ashariyin and I went to Allah Messenger ﷺ and asked him to provide us with mounts; he said; By Allah; I will never give you any mounts nor do I have anything to mount you on. Then a few camels of war booty were brought to Allah Messenger ﷺ ; and he asked about us; saying; Where are the AlAshariyin? He then ordered five nice camels to be given to us; and when we had departed; we said; What have we done? Allah Messenger ﷺ had taken the oath not to give us any mounts; and that he had nothing to mount us on; and later he gave us that we might ride? Did we take advantage of the fact that Allah Messenger ﷺ had forgotten his oath? By Allah; we will never succeed. So we went back to him and said to him; We came to you to give us mounts; and you took an oath that you would not give us any mounts and that you had nothing to mount us on. On that he said; I did not provide you with mounts; but Allah did. By Allah; if I take an oath to do something; and then find something else better than it; I do that which is better and make expiation for the dissolution of the oath. | The Chapter on Journeys And Travel And Oaths in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Do not swear by your fathers in Sahih AlBukhari

Abu Bakr added; I am going to visit the Prophet ﷺ and you should finish serving them before I return. Abdulrahman said; So I went at once and served them with what was available at that time in the house and requested them to eat. They said; Where is the owner of the house i.e.; Abu Bakr ? Abdulrahman said; Take your meal. They said; We will not eat till the owner of the house comes. Abdulrahman said; Accept your meal from us; for if my father comes and finds you not having taken your meal yet; we will be blamed severely by him; but they refused to take their meals. So I was sure that my father would be angry with me. When he came; I went away to hide myself from him. He asked; What have you done about the guests ? They informed him the whole story. Abu Bakr called; O Abdulrahman I kept quiet. He then called again. O Abdulrahman I kept quiet and he called again; O ignorant boy ! I beseech you by Allah; if you hear my voice; then come out! He said; As you have been waiting for me; by Allah; I will not eat of it tonight. They said; By Allah; we will not eat of it till you eat of it. He said; I have never seen a night like this night in evil. What is wrong with you? Why dont you accept your meals of hospitality from us? He said to me ; Bring your meal. Abu Bakr wife swore that she would not eat of it and so the guests or the guest swore that they would not eat of it till he ate of it. Abu Bakr said; All that happened was from Satan. So he asked for the meals and ate of it; and so did they. Whenever they took a handful of the meal; the meal grew increased from underneath more than that mouthful. He said to his wife ; O; sister of Bani Firas! What is this? She said; O; pleasure of my eyes! I took it to him and he said; Put it down; and ordered me to call some men whom he named; and to invite whomever I would meet. I did what he ordered me to do; and when I returned; I found the house crowded with people and saw the Prophet ﷺ keeping his hand over the Haisa and saying over it whatever Allah wished him to say. Then he called the men in batches of ten to eat of it; and he said to them; Mention the Name of Allah; and each man should eat of the dish the nearest to him. When all of them had finished their meals; some of them left and a few remained there talking; over which I felt unhappy. Then the Prophet ﷺ went out towards the dwelling places of his wives and I too; went out after him and told him that those people had left. Then he returned and entered his dwelling place and let the curtains fall while I was in his dwelling place; and he was reciting the Verses:- O you who believe! Enter not the Prophet house until leave is given you for a meal; and then not as early as to what for its preparation. But when you are invited; enter; and when you have taken your meals; disperse without sitting for a talk. So he took him to his wife and said to her; Entertain generously the guest of Allah Messenger ﷺ She said; We have got nothing except the meals of my children. He said; Prepare your meal; light your lamp and let your children sleep if they ask for supper. So she prepared her meal; lighted her lamp and made her children sleep; and then stood up pretending to mend her lamp; but she put it off. Then both of them pretended to be eating; but they really went to bed hungry. In the morning the Ansari went to Allah Messenger ﷺ who said; Tonight Allah laughed or wondered at your action. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3930 | Narrated Abdulrahman Bin Abi Bakr: The companions of Suffa were poor people. The Prophet ﷺ once said; Whoever has food enough for two persons; should take a third one from among them ; and whoever has food enough for four persons; should take a fifth or a sixth or said something similar. And Abu Bakr with his three family member who were I; my father and my mother the sub-narrator is in doubt whether Abdulrahman said; My wife and my servant who was common for both my house and Abu Bakr house. Abu Bakr took his supper with the Prophet ﷺ and stayed there till he offered the Isha prayers. He returned and stayed till Allah Messenger ﷺ took his supper. After a part of the night had passed; he returned to his house. His wife said to him; What has detained you from your guests? He said; Have you served supper to them? She said; They refused to take supper until you come. They i.e. some members of the household presented the meal to them but they refused to eat I went to hide myself and he said; O Ghunthar! He invoked Allah to cause my ears to be cut and he rebuked me. He then said to them : Please eat! and added; I will never eat the meal. By Allah; whenever we took a handful of the meal; the meal grew from underneath more than that handful till everybody ate to his satisfaction; yet the remaining food was more than the original meal. Abu Bakr saw that the food was as much or more than the original amount. He called his wife; O sister of Bani Firas! She said; O pleasure of my eyes. The food has been tripled in quantity. Abu Bakr then started eating thereof and said; It i.e. my oath not to eat was because of Sa all. He took a handful from it; and carried the rest to the Prophet. So that food was with the Prophet ﷺ. There was a treaty between us and some people; and when the period of that treaty had elapsed; he divided US into twelve groups; each being headed by a man. Allah knows how many men were under the command of each leader. Anyhow; the Prophet ﷺ surely sent a leader with each group. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4126 | Narrated Anas: When Abdullah Bin Salam heard the arrival of the Prophet ﷺ at Medina; he came to him and said; I am going to ask you about three things which nobody knows except a prophet: What is the first portent of the Hour? What will be the first meal taken by the people of Paradise? On that Abdullah Bin Salam said; I testify that you are the Messenger of Allah. Abdullah Bin Salam further said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! The Jews are liars; and if they should come to know about my conversion to Islam before you ask them about me ; they would tell a lie about me. The Jews came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abdullah went inside the house. Allah Apostle asked the Jews ; What kind of man is Abdullah Bin Salam amongst you? They replied; He is the most learned person amongst us; and the best amongst us; and the son of the best amongst us. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; What do you think if he embraces Islam will you do as he does ? The Jews said; May Allah save him from it. Then Abdullah Bin Salam came out in front of them saying; I testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah. SahihMuslim-017-001-18086 | It has been narrated by Abdullah Bin Rabah from Abu Huraira; who said: Many deputations came to Muawiya. This was in the month of Ramadan. We would prepare food for one another. Abu Huraira was one of those who frequently invited us to his house. I said: Should I not prepare food and invite them to my place? So I ordered meals to be prepared Then I met Abu Huraira in the evening and said: You will have your meals with me tonight. He said: You have forestalled me. I said: Yes; and invited them. When they had finished with the meals Abu Huraira said: Should I not tell yon a tradition from your traditions; O ye assembly of the Ansar? He then gave an account of the Conquest of Mecca and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ advanced until he reached Mecca. He deputed AlZubair on his right flank and Khalid on the left; and he despatched Abu Ubaida with the force that had no armour. They advanced to the interior of the valley. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in the midst of a large contingent of fighters. He saw me and said: Abu Huraira. I said: I am here at your call; Messenger of Allah I He said: Let no one come to me except the Ansar; so call to me the Ansar only. Abu Huraira continued: So they gathered round him. The Quraish also gathered their ruffians and their lowly followers; and said: We send these forward. If they get anything; we shall be with them to share it ; and if misfortune befalls them; we shall pay as compensation whatever we are asked for. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to the Ansar : You see the ruffians and the lowly followers of the Quraish. And he indicated by striking one of his hands over the other that they should be killed and said: Meet me at AlSafa. Then we went on and if any one of us wanted that a certain person should be killed; he was killed; and none could offer any resistance. Abu Huraira continued: Then came Abu Sufyan and said: Messenger of Allah; the blood of the Quraish has become very cheap. There will be no Quraish from this day on. Then he the Holy Prophet said: Who enters the house of Abu Sufyan; he will be safe. Some of the Ansar whispered among themselves: After all ; love for his city and tenderness towards his relations have overpowered him. Abu Huraira said: At this moment revelation came to the Prophet ﷺ and when he was going to receive the Revelation; we understood it; and when he was actually receiving it; none of us would dare raise his eyes to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until the revelation came to an end. When the revelation came to an end; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O ye Assembly of the Ansar! They said: Here we are at your disposal; Messenger of Allah. He said: You were saying that love for his city and tenderness towards his people have overpowered this man. They said: So it was. He said: No; never. I am a bondman of God and His Messenger. I migrated towards God and towards you. I will live with you and will die with you. So; they the Ansar turned towards him in tears and they were saying: By Allah; we said what we said because of our tenacious attachment to Allah and His Messenger. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Surely; Allah and His Messenger testify to your assertions and accept your apology. The narrator continued: People turned to the house of Abu Sufyan and people locked their doors. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ proceeded until he approached the Black Stone. He kissed it and circumambulated the Kaba. He reached near an idol by the side of the Kaba which was worshipped by the people. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a bow in his hand; and he was holding it from a corner. When he came near the idol; he began to pierce its eyes with the bow and while doing so was saying: Truth has been established and falsehood has perished. When he had finished the circumambulation; he came to Safa; ascended it to a height from where he could see the Kaba; raised his hands in prayer and began to praise Allah and prayed what he wanted to pray. | The Chapter on Alansar And Quraish in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 31 in Sahih Muslim

He said: So my mother; Umm Sulaim prepared some Hais in a Tawr a vessel made of brass and stone and said: O Anas! Take this to the Prophet ﷺ. I said to him: My mother sent this to you; and she conveys her Salam; and says: This is a little something from us for you. He said: Put it down. Then he said: Go and invite so-and-so; so-and-so; and so-and-so for me; and whomever you meet. He named some people; and said: I invited those he named; and whomever I met. - He AlJad said: I said to Anas: How many of you were there? He said: Roughly about three-hundred. - He Anas said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: O Anas! Bring me the Tawr. He said: They entered until the Suffah a shaded part of the Masjid in AlMadinah and the apartment were full. He said: A group exited; and another group entered; until all of them ate. He said: He said to me: O Anas! Remove it. He said: So I took it. I could not tell if there was more when I first put it down; or when I picked it up. He said: Groups of them sat talking in the house of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his wife sat facing the wall. They began to be burdensome on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to greet his women folk; then he returned; they realized that they had overburdened him; so they hastened for the gate and all of them exited. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came until he lowered the curtain; and entered while I was sitting in the apartment. He did not remain there long before he left me; and these Ayat were revealed. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to recite them to the people: O you who believe! Do not enter the Prophet house unless permission is given to you for a meal; not to wait for its preparation. But when you are invited; enter; and when you have taken your meals; dispense without sitting for a talk. MuwataMalik-017-001-35772 | Yahya related to me from Malik; from Jafar Ibn Muhammad; from his father; that AlMiqdad Ibn AlAswad once went to see AIi Ibn Abi Talibat AlSuqya; where he was feeding some young camels of his with a mash of meal and leaves; and he said to him; This man Uthman Ibn Affan is telling people that they cannot do hajj and umra together. AlMiqdad said; Ali Ibn Abi Talib went off with bits of meal and leaves on his forearms - and I shall never forget the sight of the meal and the leaves on his arms - and went to see Uthman Ibn Affan and asked him; Are you saying then that people cannot do hajj and umra together? Uthman replied; That is my opinion. Whereupon AIi got angry and went out saying; I am at your service; O Allah; I am at your service for a hajj and an umra together. Malik said; Our position here in Madina is that someone who does hajj and umra together should not remove any of his hair; nor should he come out of ihram in any way until he has sacrificed an animal; if he has one. He should come out of ihram at Mina; on the day of the sacrifice. | The Chapter on Mina In Alhajj in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hajj in Muwata Malik |
