SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1114 | Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Allah never listens to anything as He listens to the Prophet ﷺ reciting Quran in a pleasant sweet sounding voice. A companion of Abu Huraira said; He means; reciting the Quran aloud. | The Chapter on Recitations And Poetry And The Companions Reciting Alquran Aloud in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Intercession with Him profits not except for him whom He permits in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1122 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: regarding the Verse :- Neither say your prayer aloud; nor say it in a low tone. 17.110 This Verse was revealed while Allah Messenger ﷺ was hiding himself in Mecca; and when he raised his voice while reciting the Quran; the pagans would hear him and abuse the Quran and its Revealer and to the one who brought it. So Allah said:- Neither say your prayer aloud; nor say it in a low tone. 17.110 That is; Do not say your prayer so loudly that the pagans can hear you; nor say it in such a low tone that your companions do not hear you. But seek a middle course between those extremes ; i.e.; let your companions hear; but do not relate the Quran loudly; so that they may learn it from you. | The Chapter on Recitations And Poetry And The Companions Reciting Alquran Aloud in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on He has sent it down with His Knowledge and the angels bear witness in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1155 | Narrated Mousa Bin Abi Aisha: Saeed Bin Jubair reported from Ibn Abbas regarding the explanation of the Verse: Do not move your tongue concerning the Quran to make haste therewith. He said; The Prophet ﷺ used to undergo great difficulty in receiving the Divine Inspiration and used to move his lips. Ibn Abbas said to Said ; I move them my lips as Allah Messenger ﷺ used to move his lips. And Saeed said to me ; I move my lips as I saw Ibn Abbas moving his lips; and then he moved his lips. So Allah revealed:- O Muhammad! Do not move your tongue concerning the Quran to make haste therewith. It is for Us to collect it and give you O Muhammad the ability to recite it. i.e.; to collect it in your chest and then you recite it. 75.16-17 But when We have recited it; to you O Muhammad through Gabriel then follow you its recital. 75.18 This means; You should listen to it and keep quiet and then it is upon Us to make you recite it. The narrator added; So Allah Messenger ﷺ used to listen whenever Gabriel came to him; and when Gabriel left; the Prophet ﷺ would recite the Quran as Gabriel had recited it to him. | The Chapter on Loud Recitation Of Alquran in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Move not your tongue concerning to make haste therewith in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1156 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: regarding the explanation of the Verse:- O Muhammad! Neither say your prayer aloud; nor say it in a low tone. 17.110 This Verse was revealed while Allah Messenger ﷺ was hiding himself at Mecca. At that time; when he led his companions in prayer; he used to raise his voice while reciting the Quran; and if the pagans heard him; they would abuse the Quran; its Revealer; and the one who brought it. So Allah said to His Prophet: Neither say your prayer aloud. i.e.; your recitation of Quran lest the pagans should hear it and abuse the Quran nor say it in a low tone; lest your voice should fail to reach your companions; but follow a way between. 17.110 | The Chapter on Recitations And Poetry And The Companions Reciting Alquran Aloud in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on And whether you keep your talk secret or disclose it Verily He is the Al AlKnower of what is in the breasts of men in Sahih AlBukhari

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1191 | Narrated Abu Mousa: The Prophet ﷺ said; The example of a believer who recites the Quran is that of a citron a citrus fruit which is good in taste and good in smell. And the believer who does not recite the Quran is like a date which has a good taste but no smell. And the example of an impious person who recites the Quran is that of AlRihana an aromatic plant which smells good but is bitter in taste. And the example of an impious person who does not recite the Quran is that of a colocynth which is bitter in taste and has no smell. | The Chapter on Fragrances And Alquran in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The recitation of the Quran by an impious person or a hypocrite in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1288 | Narrated Zaid Bin Thabit: Abu Bakr sent for me owing to the large number of casualties in the battle of AlYamama; while Umar was sitting with him. Abu Bakr said to me ; Umar has come to my and said; A great number of Qaris of the Holy Quran were killed on the day of the battle of AlYamama; and I am afraid that the casualties among the Qaris of the Quran may increase on other battle-fields whereby a large part of the Quran may be lost. Therefore I consider it advisable that you Abu Bakr should have the Quran collected. I said; How dare I do something which Allah Messenger ﷺ did not do? Umar said; By Allah; it is something beneficial. Umar kept on pressing me for that till Allah opened my chest for that for which He had opened the chest of Umar and I had in that matter; the same opinion as Umar had. Abu Bakr then said to me Zaid ; You are a wise young man and we do not have any suspicion about you; and you used to write the Divine Inspiration for Allah Messenger ﷺ. So you should search for the fragmentary scripts of the Quran and collect it in one Book. Zaid further said: By Allah; if Abu Bakr had ordered me to shift a mountain among the mountains from one place to another it would not have been heavier for me than this ordering me to collect the Quran. Then I said to Umar and Abu Bakr ; How can you do something which Allah Messenger ﷺ did not do? Abu Bakr said; By Allah; it is something beneficial. Zaid added: So he Abu Bakr kept on pressing me for that until Allah opened my chest for that for which He had opened the chests of Abu Bakr and Umar; and I had in that matter; the same opinion as theirs. So I started compiling the Quran by collecting it from the leafless stalks of the date-palm tree and from the pieces of leather and hides and from the stones; and from the chests of men who had memorized the Quran. I found the last verses of Surat AlTauba: Verily there has come unto you an Apostle Muhammad from amongst yourselves- 9.128-129 from Khuzaima or Abi Khuzaima and I added to it the rest of the Sura. The manuscripts of the Quran remained with Abu Bakr till Allah took him unto Him. Then it remained with Umar till Allah took him unto Him; and then with Hafsa bint Umar. | The Chapter on Lost And Found And Alquran in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on It is desirable that a scribe should be honest and wise in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1411 | Narrated Hudhaifa: Allah Messenger ﷺ said to us; Honesty descended from the Heavens and settled in the roots of the hearts of men faithful believers ; and then the Quran was revealed and the people read the Quran; and learnt it from it and also learnt it from the Sunna. O Aasi m! Please ask Allah Messenger ﷺ about this matter on my behalf. Aasi m asked the Prophet ﷺ but the Prophet disliked the question and disapproved of it. Aasi m returned and informed Uwaimir that the Prophet disliked that type of question. Uwaimir said; By Allah; I will go personally to the Prophet. Uwaimir came to the Prophet ﷺ when Allah had already revealed Quranic Verses in that respect ; after Aasi m had left the Prophet ﷺ. So the Prophet ﷺ said to Uwaimir; Allah has revealed Quranic Verses regarding you and your wife. The Prophet ﷺ then called for them; and they came and carried out the order of Lian. Then Uwaimir said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Now if I kept her with me; I would be accused of telling a lie. So Uwaimir divorced her although the Prophet ﷺ did not order him to do so. Later on this practice of divorcing became the tradition of couples involved in a case of Lian. The Prophet ﷺ said to the people. Wait for her! If she delivers a red short small child like a Wahra a short red animal. then I will be of the opinion that he Uwaimir has told a lie but if she delivered a black big-eyed one with big buttocks; then I will be of the opinion that he has told the truth about her. Ultimately she gave birth to a child that proved the accusation. When Umar performed his last Hajj; Abdulrahman said to me at Mina; Would that you had seen Chief of the believers today! A man came to him and said; So-and-so has said; If Chief of the Believers died; we will give the oath of allegiance to such-and-such person; Umar said; I will get up tonight and warn those who want to usurp the people rights. I said; Do not do so; for the season of Hajj gathers the riffraff mob who will form the majority of your audience; and I am afraid that they will not understand the meaning of your saying properly and may spread an incorrect statement everywhere. You should wait till we reach Medina; the place of migration and the place of the Sunna the Prophet Traditions. There you will meet the companions of Allah Messenger ﷺ from the Muhajirin and the Ansar who will understand your statement and place it in its proper position Umar said; By Allah; I shall do so the first time I stand to address the people in Medina. When we reached Medina; Umar in a Friday Khutba-sermon said; No doubt; Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and revealed to him the Book Quran ; and among what was revealed; was the Verse of AlRajm stoning adulterers to death. Abu Bakr said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Let my father be sacrificed for you! Allow me to interpret this dream. The Prophet ﷺ said to him; Interpret it. Abu Bakr said; The cloud with shade symbolizes Islam; and the butter and honey dropping from it; symbolizes the Quran; its sweetness dropping and some people learning much of the Quran and some a little. The rope which is extended from the sky to the earth is the Truth which you the Prophet are following. You follow it and Allah will raise you high with it; and then another man will follow it and will rise up with it and another person will follow it and then another man will follow it but it will break and then it will be connected for him and he will rise up with it. O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Let my father be sacrificed for you! Am I right or wrong? The Prophet replied; You are right in some of it and wrong in some. Abu Bakr said; O Allah Prophet! By Allah; you must tell me in what I was wrong. Neither did he offer their funeral prayer nor did he get them washed. Jabir Bin Abdullah added : Allah Messenger ﷺ used to ask about the martyrs of Uhud as to which of them knew more of the Quran. The man said; No. The Prophet said; Go to your house and search for something. The man went and came back to say; By Allah; I could not find anything. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go again and search for something; even if it be an iron ring. He went again and came back saying; No; by Allah; I could not get even an iron ring. The man had only an Izar and had no Rida upper garment. He said; I will give her my Izar as Mahr. On that the Prophet ﷺ said; Your Izar? If she wears it; nothing of it will remain on you; and if you wear it nothing of it will be on her The man went Aasi de and sat down When the Prophet ﷺ saw him leaving after a while ; he called back and asked. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3253 | Narrated Zaid Bin Thabit: Abu Bakr AlSiddiq sent for me when the people! of Yamama had been killed i.e.; a number of the Prophet Companions who fought against Mousailama. I went to him and found Umar Bin AlKhattab sitting with him. Abu Bakr then said to me ; Umar has come to me and said: Casualties were heavy among the Qurra of the! Quran i.e. those who knew the Quran by heart on the day of the Battle of Yalmama; and I am afraid that more heavy casualties may take place among the Qurra on other battlefields; whereby a large part of the Quran may be lost. Therefore I suggest; you Abu Bakr order that the Quran be collected. I said to Umar; How can you do something which Allah Apostle did not do? Umar said; By Allah; that is a good project. Umar kept on urging me to accept his proposal till Allah opened my chest for it and I began to realize the good in the idea which Umar had realized. Then Abu Bakr said to me. You are a wise young man and we do not have any suspicion about you; and you used to write the Divine Inspiration for Allah Messenger ﷺ. So you should search for the fragmentary scripts of the Quran and collect it in one book. By Allah If they had ordered me to shift one of the mountains; it would not have been heavier for me than this ordering me to collect the Quran. Then I said to Abu Bakr; How will you do something which Allah Messenger ﷺ did not do? Abu Bakr replied; By Allah; it is a good project. Abu Bakr kept on urging me to accept his idea until Allah opened my chest for what He had opened the chests of Abu Bakr and Umar. So I started looking for the Quran and collecting it from what was written on palmed stalks; thin white stones and also from the men who knew it by heart; till I found the last Verse of Surat AlTauba Repentance with Abi Khuzaima AlAnsari; and I did not find it with anybody other than him. The Verse is: Verily there has come unto you an Apostle Muhammad from amongst yourselves. It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty.. till the end of Surat Baraa AlTauba 9.128-129 Then the complete manuscripts copy of the Quran remained with Abu Bakr till he died; then with Umar till the end of his life; and then with Hafsa; the daughter of Umar. | The Chapter on Lost And Found And Alquran in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The collection of the Quran in Sahih AlBukhari

SahihMuslim-017-001-17139 | AlHajjaj Bin AlShair narrated to me; Ahmad- meaning Ibn Yunus- narrated to us; Zaidah narrated to us; on authority of AlAmash; on authority of Ibrahim that AlHarith said: I studied the Quran for three years and the revelation for two years; or he said: the revelation in three years and the Quran in two years. | The Chapter on Revelation And Alquran in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 5B in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-17897 | It has been reported on the authority of Anas Bin Malik that some people came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said to him: Send with us some men who may teach us the Quran and the Sunnah. Accordingjy; he sent seventy men from the Ansar. They were called the Reciters and among them was my maternal uncle. Haram. They used to recite the Quran; discuss and ponder over its meaning at night. In the day they brought water and poured it in pitchers in the Masjid; collected wood and sold it; and with the sale proceeds bought food for the people of the Suffa and the needy. The Prophet ﷺ sent the Reciters with these people; but these treacherous people fell upon them and killed thern before they reached their destination While dying ; they said: O Allah; convey from us the news to our Prophet that we have met Thee in a way that we are pleased with Thee and Thou art pleased with us. The narrator said : A man attacked Haram maternal uncle of Anas from behind and smote him with a spear which pierced him. While dying ; Haram said: By the Lord of the Kaba; I have met with success. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his Companions: Your brethren have been slain grid they were saying: O Allah; convey from us to our Prophet the news that we have met Thee in a way that we are pleased with Thee and Thou art pleased with us. | The Chapter on Allah Characteristics Grace in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 41 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-17903 | It has been narrated on the authority of Sulaiman Bin Yasar who said: People dispersed from around Abu Huraira; and Natil; who was from the Syrians. said to him: O Shaikh; relate to us a tradition you have heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: Yes. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The first of men whose case will be decided on the Day of Judgment will be a man who died as a martyr. He shall be brought before the Judgment Seat. Allah will make him recount His blessings i. e. the blessings which He had bestowed upon him and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his life. Then will Allah say: What did you do to requite these blessings ? He will say: I fought for Thee until I died as a martyr. Allah will say: You have told a lie. You fought that you might be called a brave warrior. And you were called so. Then orders will be passed against him and he will be dragged with his face downward and cast into Hell. Then will be brought forward a man who acquired knowledge and imparted it to others and recited the Quran. He will be brought And Allah will make him recount His blessings and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his lifetime. Then will Allah ask: What did you do to requite these blessings ? He will say: I acquired knowledge and disseminated it and recited the Quran seeking Thy pleasure. Allah will say: You have told a lie. You acquired knowledge so that you might be called a scholar; and you recited the Quran so that it might be said: He is a Qari and such has been said. Then orders will be passed against him and he shall be dragged with his face downward and cast into the Fire. Then will be brought a man whom Allah had made abundantly rich and had granted every kind of wealth. He will be brought and Allah will make him recount His blessings and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his lifetime. Allah will then ask: What have you done to requite these blessings ? He will say: I spent money in every cause in which Thou wished that it should be spent. Allah will say: You are lying. You did so that it might be said about You : He is a generous fellow and so it was said. Then will Allah pass orders and he will be dragged with his face downward and thrown into Hell. | The Chapter on Life And Death And Islam in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 43 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18656 | Hudhaifa reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ narrated to us two ahadith. I have seen one crystallized into reality ; and I am waiting for the other. He told us: Trustworthiness descended in the innermost root of the hearts of people. Then the Quran was revealed and they learnt from the Quran and they learnt from the Sunnah. Then he the Holy Prophet told us about the removal of trustworthiness. He said: The man would have a wink of sleep and trustworthiness would be taken away from his heart leaving the impression of a faint mark. He would again sleep and trustworthiness would be taken away from his heart leaving an impression of a blister; as if you rolled down an ember on your foot and it was vesicled. He would see a swelling having nothing in it. He the Holy Prophet then took up a pebble and rolled it down over his foot and said : The people would enter into transactions amongst one another and hardly a person would be left who would return things entrusted to him. And there would be so much paucity of honest persons till it would be said: There in such a such tribe is a trustworthy man. And they would also say about a person: How prudent he is; how broad-minded he is and how intelligent he is; whereas in his heart there would not be faith even to the weight of a mustard seed. I have passed through a time in which I did not care with whom amongst you I entered into a transaction; for if he were a Muslim his faith would compel him to discharge his obligations to me and it he were a Christian or a Jew; the ruler would compel him to discharge his obligations to me. But today I would not enter into a transaction with you except so and so. | The Chapter on Family And Judgments in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 64 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19044 | Masruq reported: We were sitting in the company of Abdullah and he was lying on the bed that a person came and said: Abd Abd AlRabmin; a story-teller at the gates of Kinda says that the verse of the Quran which deals with the smoke implies that which is about to come and it would hold the breath of the infidels and would inflict the believers with cold. Thereupon Abdullah got up and said in anger. O people; fear Allah and say only that which one knows amongst you and do not say which he does not know and he should simply say: Allah has the best knowledge for He has the best knowledge amongst all of you. It does not behove him to say that which he does not know. Allah has the best knowledge of it. Verily Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; said to His Prophet ﷺ to state: I do not ask from you any remuneration and I am not the one to put you in trouble; and when Allah Mesqenger ﷺ saw people turning back from religion he said: O Allah; afflict thern with seven famines as was done in the case of Yousif; so they were afflicted with famine by which they were forced to eat everything until they were obliged to eat the hides and the dead bodies because of hunger; and every one of them looked towards the sky and he found a smoke. And Abu Sufyan came and he said: Muhammad; you have come to command us to obey Allah and cement the ties of blood- relation whereas your people are undone; supplicate Allah for tlicm. Thereupon Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; said: Wait for the day when there would be clear smoke from the sky which would envelop people and that would be grievous torivent up to the words: you are going to return to evil. if this verse implied the torment of the next life could the chastisement of the next life be averted as the Quran states : On the day when We seize them with the most violent seizing; surely We shall exact retribution xliv. 16 ? The seizing in the hadith implies that of the Day of Badr. And so far as the sign of smoke; seizing; inevitability and signs of Rome are concern- ed; they have become things of the past now. | The Chapter on Rain And Clouds And Smoke Associated With Punishments in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 7 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19388 | Aisha reported that Allah Messenger ﷺ recited these verses of the Quran : He it is Who revealed to thee Muhammad the Book the Quran wherein there are clear revelations-these are the substance of the Book and others are allegorical verses. And as for those who have a yearning for error they go after the allegorical verses seeking to cause dissension; by seeking to explain them. And none knows their implications but Allah; and those who are sound in knowledge say: We affirm our faith in everything which is from our Lord. It is only the persons of understanding who really heed iii. 6. SahihMuslim-017-001-19639 | It is reported either on the authority of Ibn Abbas or on the authority of Abu Huraira that a person came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said: Allah Messenger; I saw while I was sleeping during the night this vision that there was a canopy from which butter and honey were trickling and I also saw people collecting them in the palms of their hands; some more; some less; and I also saw a rope connecting the earth with the sky and I saw you catching hold of it and rising towards the heaven; then another person after you catching hold of it and rising towards Heaven ; then another person catching hold of it; but it was broken while it was rejoined for him and he also climbed up. Abu Bakr said: Allah Messenger; may my father be sacrificed for you; by Allah; allow me to interpret it. Allah Messenger ﷺ said: Well; give its interpretation. Thereupon Abu Bakr said: The canopy signifies the canopy of Islam and that what trickles out of it in the form of butter and honey is the Holy Quran and its sweetness and softness and what the people get hold of it in their palms implies major portion of the Quran or the small portion; and so far as the rope joining the sky with the earth is concerned; it is the Truth by which you stood in the worldly life and by which Allah would raise you to Heaven. Then the person after you would take hold of it and he would also climb up with the help of it. Then another person would take hold of it and climb up with the help of it. Then another person would take hold of it and it would be broken; then it would be rejoined for him and he would climb up with the help of it. Allah Messenger; may my father be taken as a ransom for you; tell me whether I have interpreted it correctly or I have made an error. Allah Messenger ﷺ said: You have interpreted a part of it correctly and you have erred in interpreting a part of it. Thereupon he said: Allah Messenger; by Allah; tell me that part where I have committed an error. Thereupon Abdullah said: Should I not curse one upon whom Allah Messenger ﷺ has invoked curse and that is in the Book also. Thereupon that woman said: I read the Quran from cover to cover; but I did not find that in it. whereupon he said: If you had read thoroughly you would have definitely found this in that as Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; has said: What Allah Messenger brings for you accept that and what he has forbidden you; refrain from that. That woman said: I find this thing in your wife even now. Thereupon he said: Go and see her. She reported: I went to the wife of Abdullah but found nothing of this sort in her. Thereupon he said: Return it to the place from where you picked it up. I went back until I decided to throw it in a store but my soul repulsed me so I came back and asked him to give that sword to me. He said in a loud voice to return it to the place from where I had picked it up. It was on this occasion that this verse was revealed: They asked about the spoils of war viii. 1. I said: Permit me to distribute half of it. He did not agree. I said: Permit me to distribute the third part; whereupon he kept quiet and it was after this that the distribution of one property in charity to the extent of one-third was held valid. He further said: I came to a group of persons of the Ansir and Muhajirin and they said: Come; so that we may serve you wine; and it was before the use of wine had been prohibited. I went to them in a garden and there had been with them the roasted head of a camel and a small water-skin containing wine. I ate and drank along with them and there came under discussion the Ansr Helpers and Muhajirin immigrants. I said: The immigrants are better than the Ansar; that a person picked up a portion of the head of the camel and struck me with it that my nose was injured. SahihMuslim-017-001-22103 | Zaid Bin Wahb Juhani reported and he was among the squadron which was under the command of Ali Allah be pleased with him and which set out to curb the activities of the Khawarij. Ali Allah be pleased with him said: O people; I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: There would arise from my Ummah a people who would recite the Quran; and your recital would seem insignificant as compared with their recital; your prayer as compared with their prayer; and your fast; as compared with their fast. They would recite the Quran thinking that it supports them; whereas it is an evidence against them. Their prayer does not get beyond their collar bone; they would swerve through Islam just as the arrow passes through the prey. If the squadron which is to encounter them were to know what great boon has been assured to them by their Messenger ﷺ they would completely rely upon this deed alone and cease to do other good deeds ; and their that of the Khawarij distinctive mark is that there would be among them a person whose wrist would be without the arm; and the end of his wrist would be fleshy like the nipple of the breast on which there would be white hair. You would be marching towards Muawiya and the people of Syria and you would leave them behind among your children and your property to do harm. By Allah; I believe that these are the people against whom you have been commanded to fight and get reward for they have shed forbidden blood; and raided the animals of the people. So go forth in the name of Allah to fight against them. Salama Bin Kuhail mentioned that Zaid Bin Wahb made me alight at every stage; till we crossed a bridge. Abdullah Bin Wahb AlRasibi was at the head of the Khawarij when we encountered them. He Abdullah said to his army: Throw the spears and draw out your swords from their sheaths; for I fear that they would attack you as they attacked you on the day of Harura. They went back and threw their spears and drew out their swords; and people fought against them with spears and they were killed one after another. Only two persons were killed among the people among the army led by Ali on that day. Ali Allah be pleased with him said: Find out from among them the dead bodies of the Khawarij the maimed. They searched but did not find him. Ali Allah be pleased with him then himself stood up and walked till he came to the people who had been killed one after another. He Ali said: Search them to the last; and then Ali companions found him the dead body of the maimed near the earth. He Ali then pronounced Allahu Akbar Allah is the Greatest and then said; Allah told the Truth and His Messenger ﷺ conveyed it. Then there stood before him Abida Salmani who said: Commander of the Believers; by Allah; besides Whom there is no god but He; tell me whether you heard this hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. It the uninterrupted fasting and recital of the Quran every night was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or he sent for me; and I went to him and he said to me: I have been informed that you fast continuously and recite the whole of the Quran every night. I said: Apostle of Allah; it is right; but I covet thereby nothing but good; whereupon he said: It suffices for you that you should observe fast for three days during every month. I said: Apostle of Allah; I am capable of doing more than this. He said: Your wife has a right upon you; your visitor has a right upon you; your body has a right upon you; so observe the fast of David; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; for he was the best worshipper of Allah. I said: Apostle of Allah; what is the fast of David? He said: He used to fast one day and did not fast the other day. He also said: Recite the Quran during every month. I said: Apostle of Allah; I am capable of doing more than this; whereupon he said: Recite it in twenty days; recite it in ten days. I said: I am capable of doing more than this; whereupon he said: Recite it every week; and do not exceed beyond this; for your wife has a right upon you; your visitor has a right upon you; your body has a right upon you. He Amr Bin As said: I was hard to myself and thus I was put to hardship. The Apostle of Allah ﷺ had told me: You do not know you may live long thus and bear the hardships for a long time ; and I accepted that which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had told me. He said: Shall I not lead you to one who knows best among the people of the world about the witr of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? He said: Yes. Ibn Abbas said: It is Aishah. So go to her and ask her about witr and then come back to me and tell me the answer that she gives you. So I went to Hakim Bin Aflah and asked him to go accompany me to her. He said: I shall not go to her; for I told her not to say anything about these two conflicting groups; but she refused to accept my advice and went on to participate in the conflict. I swore an oath; beseeching him to take me to her. So he came with me and went unto her. She said to Hakim: Who is this with you? He said: He is Saad Bin Hisham. She said: Which Hisham? He said: Ibn Amir. She supplicated for mercy for him and said: What a good man Amir was. He said: O Mother of the Believers; tell me about the character of the Messenger of Allah. She said: Dont you read the Quran? I said: Yes. She said The character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the Quran. He said: I wanted to get up and leave ; then I thought of the Qiyam night prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Tell me about the Qiyam of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: Do you not recite this surah: O you wrapped in garments? I said: Yes. She said: Allah; the Mighty and Sublime; made Qiyam AlLail obligatory at the beginning of this surah; so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions prayed Qiyam AlLail for one year. Allah SWT withheld the latter part of this surah for twelve months; then he revealed the lessening of this duty at the end of this surah; so Qiyam AlLail became voluntary after it had been obligatory. I felt inclined to stand up and not ask anything further ; then I thought of the witr of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I said: O Mother of the Believers; tell me about the witr of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: We used to prepare his siwak and water for his ablution; and Allah SWT would wake him when He wished during the night. He would use the siwak; perform ablution; and then pray eight rakahs in which he would not sit until he reached the eighth one. Then he would sit and remember Allah SWT and supplicate; then he would say the taslim that we could hear. Then he would pray two rakas sitting after uttering the taslim; then he would pray one rakah; and that made eleven rakahs; O my son! When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ grew older and put on weight; he prayed witr with seven rakahs; then he prayed two rakahs sitting down after saying the taslim; and that made nine rakahs. O my son; when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ offered a prayer; he liked to continue to offer it; and when sleep; sickness; or pain distracted him from praying Qiyam AlLail; he would pray twelve rakahs during the day. I am not aware of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ having recited the whole Quran during a single night; or praying through the whole night until morning; or fasting a complete month; except Ramadan. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-24686 | Narrated Saad Bin Hisham: I divorced my wife. I then came to Medina to sell my land that was there so that I could buy arms and fight in battle. I met a group of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. They said: Six persons of us intended to do so i.e. divorce their wives and purchase weapons ; but the Prophet ﷺ prohibited them. He said: For you in the Messenger of Allah there is an excellent model. I then came to Ibn Abbas and asked him about the witr observed by the Prophet ﷺ. He said: I point to you a person who is most familiar with the witr observed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Go to Aishah. While going to her I asked Hakim Bin Aflah to accompany me. He refused; but I adjured him. He; therefore; went along with me. We sought permission to enter upon Aishah. She said: Who is this ? He said: Hakim Bin Aflah. She asked: Who is with you ? He replied: Saad Bin Hisham. She said: Hisham son of Amir who was killed in the Battle of Uhud. I said: Yes. She said: What a good man Amir was! I said: Mother of faithful; tell me about the character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She asked: Do you not recite the Quran ? The character of Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the Quran. She replied: He used to pray eight rakahs; sitting only during the eighth of them. Then he would stand up and pray another rakahs. He would sit only after the eighth and the ninth rakahs. He would utter salutation only after the ninth rakah. He would then pray two rakahs sitting and that made eleven rakahs; O my son. He would then pray two rakahs sitting; and that made nine rakahs; O my son. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not pray through a whole night; or recite the whole Quran in a night or fast a complete month except in Ramadan. When he offered prayer; he would do that regularly. Then he would go to his bed and sleep; but the water for his ablution was placed covered near his head and his tooth-stick was also kept there until Allah awakened him at night. He then used the tooth-stick; performed ablution perfectly then came to the place of prayer and would pray eight rakahs; in which he would recite Surah AlFatihah; and a surah from the Quran as Allah willed. He would not sit during any of them but sit after the eighth rakah; and would not utter the salutation; but recite the Quran during the ninth rakah. Then he would sit and supplicate as long as Allah willed; and beg Him and devote his attention to Him; He would utter the salutation once in such a loud voice that the inmates of the house were almost awakened by his loud salutation. He would then recite Surah AlFatihah while sitting; bow while sitting; and then recite the Quran during the second rakah; and would bow and prostrate while sitting. He would supplicate Allah as long as He willed; then utter the salutation and turn away. This amount of prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued till he put a weight. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25003 | Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas: Ibn Umar misunderstood the Quranic verse; So come to your tilth however you will -may Allah forgive him. The fact is that this clan of the Ansar; who were idolaters; lived in the company of the Jews who were the people of the Book. They the Ansar accepted their superiority over themselves in respect of knowledge; and they followed most of their actions. The people of the Book i.e. the Jews used to have intercourse with their women on one side alone i.e. lying on their backs. This was the most concealing position for the vagina of the women. This clan of the Ansar adopted this practice from them. But this tribe of the Quraysh used to uncover their women completely; and seek pleasure with them from in front and behind and laying them on their backs. When the muhajirun the immigrants came to Medina; a man married a woman of the Ansar. He began to do the same kind of action with her; but she disliked it; and said to him: We were approached on one side i.e. lying on the back ; do it so; otherwise keep away from me. This matter of theirs spread widely; and it reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So Allah; the Exalted; sent down the Quranic verse: Your wives are a tilth to you; so come to your tilth however you will; i.e. from in front; from behind or lying on the back. But this verse meant the place of the delivery of the child; i.e. the vagina. | The Chapter on Alansar And Forgiveness in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Regarding Intercourse in Sunan Abu Dawoud

The Prophet ﷺ stood up and led the people in prayer performing six bowings and four prostrations. he said: Allah is most great; and then recited from the Quran and prolonged the recitation. Then he stepped forward and stood in his place; and the rows too stepped forward. he then finished the prayer and the sun had become bright. He said: O people; the sun and the moon are two of Allah signs; they are not eclipsed on account of a man death. So when you see anything of that nature; offer prayer until the sun becomes bright. MuwataMalik-017-001-34238 | Malik said; No-one should carry the Quran by its strap; or on a cushion; unless he is pure. If it were permissible to do so; it would also have been permissible to carry it in its cover. This is not because there is something on the hands of the one who carries it by which the Quran will be soiled; but because it is disapproved of for someone to carry the Quran without being pure out of respect for the Quran; and in order to honour it. Malik said; The best thing that I have heard about this is the ayat None touch it except the purified. Surat 56 ayat 79 It ranks with the ayat in Surat Abasa Surat 80 ; where Allah; the Blessed and Exalted; says; No; it is a reminder; and whoever wishes will remember it. Upon honoured pages; exalted and purified; by the hands of scribes; noble and obedient. | The Chapter on Loud Recitation Of Alquran in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prayer in Congregation in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-34239 | Yahya related to me from Malik from Ayoub Ibn Abi Tamima AlSakhtayani from Muhammad Ibn Seereen that Umar Ibn AlKhattab was with some people who were reciting Quran. He went to relieve himself and then came back and recited Quran. One of the men said to him; Amir Almuminin; are you reciting the Quran without being in Ablution? MuwataMalik-017-001-34246 | Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd Ibn Aslam from his father that the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; was on one of his journeys; and one night Umar Ibn AlKhattab; who was travelling with him; asked him about something; but he did not answer him. He asked him again; but he did not answer him. Then he asked him again; and again he did not answer him. Umar said; May your mother be bereaved of you; Umar. Three times you have importuned the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; with a question and he has not answered you at all. Umar continued; I got my camel moving until; when I was in front of the people; I feared that a piece of Quran was being sent down about me. It was not long before I heard a crier calling for me; and I said that I feared that a piece of Quran had been sent down about me. He continued; I came to the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and said; Peace be upon you to him; and he said; A Surat has been sent down to me this night that is more beloved to me than anything on which the sun rises. Then he recited AlFath Surat 48. | The Chapter on Communication And Answers in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prayer in Congregation in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-34254 | Malik said; The imam does not come down and prostrate when he recites a piece of Quran requiring a prostration while he is on the mimbar. Malik said; The position with us is that there are eleven prescribed prostrations in the Quran; none of which are in the mufassal. Malik said; No-one should recite any of the pieces of Quran that require a prostration after the prayers of subh and asr. This is because the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; forbade prayer after subh until after the sun had risen; and after asr until the sun had set; and prostration is part of the prayer. So no-one should recite any piece of Quran requiring a prostration during these two periods of time. Malik was asked whether a menstruating woman could prostrate if she heard some-one reciting a passage of Quran requiring a prostration; and he said; Neither a man nor a woman should prostrate unless they are ritually pure. Malik was asked whether a man in the company of a woman who was reciting a passage of Quran requiring a prostration should prostrate with her; and he said; He does not have to prostrate with her. The prostration is only obligatory for people who are with a man who is leading them. He recites the piece and they prostrate with him. Some one who hears a piece of Quran that requires a prostration being recited by a man who is not leading him in prayer does not have to do the prostration. | The Chapter on Prostration While Reciting Alquran in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prayer in Congregation in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-34518 | Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya Ibn Said that Abdullah Ibn Masud said to a certain man; You are in a time when men of understanding fuqaha are many and Quran reciters are few; when the limits of behaviour defined in the Quran are guarded and its letters are lost; when few people ask and many give; when they make the prayer long and the khutba short; and put their actions before their desires. A time will come upon men when their fuqaha are few but their Quran reciters are many; when the letters of the Quran are guarded carefully but its limits are lost; when many ask but few give; when they make the khutba long but the prayer short; and put their desires before their actions. | The Chapter on Assignments As Guards in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Shortening the Prayer in Muwata Malik

When Ubay had finished his prayer he joined the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and the Messenger of Allah put his hand upon his hand; and he was intending to leave by the door of the Masjid; so the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; I hope that you will not leave the Masjid until you know a Surat whose like Allah has notsentdown in the Tawrah nor in the Injil nor in the Quran.
