SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1485 | Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Horses may be used for three purposes: For a man they may be a source of reward in the Hereafter ; for another; a means of protection; and for another; a source of sin. The man for whom they are a source of reward; is the one who keeps them for Allah Cause and ties them with long ropes and lets them graze in a pasture or garden. Whatever those long ropes allow them to eat of that pasture or garden; will be written as good deeds for him and if they break their ropes and run one or two rounds; then all their footsteps and dung will be written as good deeds for him; and if they pass a river and drink from it though he has had no intention of watering them; even then; that will be written as good deeds for him. So such horses are a source of reward for that man. For the man who keeps horses for his livelihood in order not to ask others for help or beg his bread; and at the same time he does not forget Allah right of what he earns through them and of their backs that he presents it to be used in Allah Cause ; such horses are a shelter for him from poverty. For the man who keeps them just out of pride and for showing off; they are a source of sin. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ was asked about donkeys. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3989 | Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet ﷺ said; A horse may be kept for one of three purposes: for a man it may be a source of reward; for another it may be a means of living; and for a third it may be a burden a source of committing sins. As for the one for whom it is a source of reward; he is the one who keeps his horse for the sake of Jihad in Allah Cause; he ties it with a long rope on a pasture or in a garden. And if it breaks off its rope and jumps over one or two hillocks; even its dung will be considered amongst his good deeds. A horse is a shelter for the one who keeps it so that he may earn his living honestly and takes it as a refuge to keep him from following illegal ways of gaining money ; and does not forget the rights of Allah i.e. paying the Zakat and allowing others to use it for Allah Sake. But a horse is a burden and a source of committing sins for him who keeps it out of pride and pretense and with the intention of harming the Muslims. The Prophet ﷺ was asked about donkeys. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-5046 | Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Keeping horses may be a source of reward to some man ; a shelter to another i.e. means of earning one living ; or a burden to a third. He to whom the horse will be a source of reward is the one who keeps it in Allah Cause prepare it for holy battles and ties it by a long rope in a pasture or a garden. He will get a reward equal to what its long rope allows it to eat in the pasture or the garden; and if that horse breaks its rope and crosses one or two hills; then all its footsteps and its dung will be counted as good deeds for its owner; and if it passes by a river and drinks from it; then that will also be regarded as a good deed for its owner even if he has had no intention of watering it then. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7274 | Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Horses are kept for one of three purposes: A man may keep them for Allah Cause to receive a reward in the Hereafter; another may keep them as a means of protection; and a third may keep them to be a burden for him. Abu Bakr said: Allah Messenger; may my father be sacrificed for you; by Allah; allow me to interpret it. Allah Messenger ﷺ said: Well; give its interpretation. Thereupon Abu Bakr said: The canopy signifies the canopy of Islam and that what trickles out of it in the form of butter and honey is the Holy Quran and its sweetness and softness and what the people get hold of it in their palms implies major portion of the Quran or the small portion; and so far as the rope joining the sky with the earth is concerned; it is the Truth by which you stood in the worldly life and by which Allah would raise you to Heaven. Then the person after you would take hold of it and he would also climb up with the help of it. Then another person would take hold of it and climb up with the help of it. Then another person would take hold of it and it would be broken; then it would be rejoined for him and he would climb up with the help of it. Allah Messenger; may my father be taken as a ransom for you; tell me whether I have interpreted it correctly or I have made an error. Allah Messenger ﷺ said: You have interpreted a part of it correctly and you have erred in interpreting a part of it. Thereupon he said: Allah Messenger; by Allah; tell me that part where I have committed an error. SunanAlNasai-017-001-12024 | It was narrated that Ibn Abbas said: The first instance of Qasamah during the Aljahiliyah involved a man from Banu Hashim who was employed by a man from Quraish; from another branch of the tribe. He went out with him; driving his camels and another man from Banu Hashim passed by them. The leather rope of that man bag broke; so he said to the hired worker : Help me by giving me a rope with which to tie the handle of my bag; lest the camels run away from me. So he gave him a rope and he tied his gab with it. When they halted; all the camels legs were hobbled except one camel. The one who had hired him said: Why is his camel; out of all of them; not hobbled? He said: There is no rope for it. He said: Where is its rope? He said: A man from Banu Hashim passed by and the leather rope of his bag had broken; and he asked me to help him; he said: Help me by giving me a rope with which to tie the handle of my bag lest the camels run away from me; so I gave him a rope. He struck him with a stick; which led to his death.Then a man from Yemen passed by him the man from Banu Hashim; the man from Banu Hashim; just before he died and he the Hashimi man said: Are you going to attend the Pilgrimage? He said: I do not think I will attend it; but perhaps I will attend it. He said: Will you convey a message from me once in your lifetime? He said: Yes. He said: If you attend the pilgrimage; then call out; O family of Quraish! If they respond; then call out; O family of Hashim! If they respond; then ask for Abu Talib; and tell him that so and so killed me for a rope. Then the hired worker died. When the one who had hired him cam; Abu Talib went to him and said: What happened to our companion? He said: He fell sick and I took good care of him; but he died; so I stopped and buried him. He said: He deserved that from you. Some time passed; then the Yemeni man who had been asked to convey the message arrived at the time of the pilgrimage. He said: O family of Quraish! And they said: Here is Quraish. He said: O family of Banu Hashim! They said: Here is Banu Hashim. He said Where is Abu Talib? He said: Here is Abu Talib. He said: so and so asked me to convey a message to you; that so and so killed him for a camel rope. Abu Talib went to him and said Choose one of three alternatives that we are offering you. If you wish; you may give us one hundred camels; because you killed our companion by mistake: or if you wish; fifty of your men may swear an oath that you did not kill him; or if you wish; we will kill you in retaliation. He went to his people and told them about that; and they said: We will swear the oath. Then a woman from Banu Hashim; who was married to one of their men and had born him a child; came to Abu Talib and said: O Abu Talib; I wish that my son; who is one of these fifty men; should be excused from having to take the oath.; So the excused him. Then one of the men came to him and said: O Abu Talib; you want fifty men to take the oath in lieu of one hundred camels; which means that each man may give two camels instead; so here are two camels; take them from me; and do not make me take the oath. So he accepted them; and did not make him take the oath. Then forty-eight men came and took the oath. I saw the people spreading their hands. Some of them took much and some a little. I also saw a rope hanging from Heaven to Earth. I saw; Messenger of Allah; that you caught hold of it and ascended by it. Then another man caught hold of it and ascended it. Then another man caught hold of it and ascended it. Then another man caught hold of it; but it broke; and then it was joined and he ascended it. Abu Bakr said: May my parents be sacrificed for you; if you allow; I shall interpret it. He said: Interpret it. He said: The piece of cloud is the cloud of Islam; the ghee and honey that were dropping from it are the Quran; which contains softness and sweetness. Those who received much or little of it are those who learn much or little of the Quran. The rope hanging from Heaven to Earth is the truth which you are following. You catch hold of it and then Allah will raise you to Him. Then another man will catch hold of it and ascend it; Then another man will catch hold of it and it will break. But it will be joined and he will ascend it. Tell me. Messenger of Allah; whether I am right or wrong. He said: You are partly right and partly wrong. He said: I adjure you by Allah; you should tell me where I am wrong.
