Umm Habiba sent for a perfume having yellowness in it or something else like it; and she applied it to a girl and then rubbed it on her cheeks and then said: By Allah; I need no perfume but for the fact that I heard Allah Messenger ﷺ say on the pulpit: It is not permissible for a woman believing in Allah and the Hereafter to mourn for the dead beyond three days; but in case of the death of the husband it is permissible for four months and ten days. Zainab said: I then visited Zainab hint Jahsh Allah be pleased with her when her brother died and she sent for perfume and applied it and then said: By Allah; I dont feel any need for the perfume but that I heard Allah Messenger ﷺ say on the pulpit: It is not permissible for a woman believing in Allah and the Hereafbler to mourn the dead beyond three days except in case of her husband for whom she can mourn for four months and ten days. Then I left. When I was in the courtyard; or; in the Masjid; the Messenger of Allah called me or; summoned for me to come back t him and he said: What did you say? She said: So I repeated the store that I had mentioned to him about the case of my husband. He said: Stay in your house until what is written reaches its term. She said: So I observed my Iddah there for four months and ten days. She said: During the time of Uthman; he sent a message to me asking me about that; so I informed him. He Bilal said: They are women from Ansar and Zainab. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Which of the Zainabs? He said: The wife of Abdullah. Humayd Ibn Nafi said; I asked Zaynab to explain what throwing away the piece of dung at the end of a year meant. Zaynab said; In the Aljahiliya when a woman husband died; she went into a small tent and dressed in the worst of clothes. She did not touch perfume or anything until a year had passed. Then she was brought an animal - a donkey; a sheep; or a bird; and she would break her idda with it; by rubbing her body against it taftaddu. Rarely did she break her idda with anything by rubbing herself against it but that it died. Then she would come out and would be given a piece of dung. She would throw it away and then return to whatever she wished of perfumes or whatever. Malik explained; Taftaddu means to wipe her skin with it in the same way as with a healing charm.

So he said: Indeed; the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge; out of pleasure with what he is seeking. So I said: Indeed there is some doubt in my chest concerning wiping over the Khuff after defecation and urination; and you were a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ ; so I came to you to ask you: Have you heard him ﷺ mention anything concerning that? He said: Yes; he ﷺ used to order us; that when we were travelers - or - in travel; to not remove our Khuff for three days and nights except; from sexual impurity; but not from defecation; urination; and sleep. He said: Have you heard him ﷺ mention anything concerning love? He said: Yes. We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey when a Bedouin with a loud voice called upon him saying : O Muhammad! So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ responded to him with a voice similar to him saying : Come. So we said to him: Lower your voice for you are with the Prophet ﷺ ; and you have been prohibited from this. He said: By Allah; I will not lower my voice. The Bedouin said: A man loves a people but he is not with them in terms of deeds ? He ﷺ said: A man is with whomever he loves on the Day Of Judgment. So he did not cease talking with us; until he mentioned a gate in the direction of the west with the width of seventy years journey - or a rider would travel its width - for forty or seventy years. Sufyan one of the narrators said: In the direction of AlSham; Allah created it the Day He created the heavens and the earth; open - that is; for repentance.   Zirr Bin Hubaish said: I said to Ubay Bin Kaab Tell me about lailat Alqadr; O Abu AlMundhir; for our companion Ibn Masud was questioned about it; and he said: Anyone who gets up for prayer every night all the year round will hit upon it i.e. lailat Alqadr. He replied: May Allah have mercy on Abu Abdulrahman By Allah; he knew that it was in Ramadan; Mousaddad version goes but he disliked that the people should content themselves with that night alone ; or he liked that the people should not content themselves with the night alone. According to the agreed version: By Allah; it is the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan; without any reservation. I said: How did you know that; Abu AlMundhir? He replied: By the indication or sign of which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us. I asked Zirr: What is the sign ? He replied: The sun rises like a vessel of water in the morning following that night; it has no rays until it rises high up.

He said: Rather; the Messenger of Allah informed us that it is a night after which the sun rises without rays; so we counted and we remembered it. By Allah! Ibn Masud learned that it is in Ramadan and that it is the nigh of the twenty-seventh; but he did not want to inform you lest you would depend on it.

  Ziyad Bin Ilaqa reported: I heard Mughira Bin Shuba saying that the sun eclipsed during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day when Ibrahim died. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Verily the sun and the moon are the two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse on account of the death of anyone or on account of the birth of anyone. So when you see them; supplicate Allah; and observe prayer till it is over.

Thereupon Ibn Umar Allah be pleased with him said: Allah; the Exalted; has commanded fulfilling of the vow; but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden the observance of fast on this day.
