SahihAlBukhari-017-001-147 | Narrated Abu Mousa: The sun eclipsed and the Prophet ﷺ got up; being afraid that it might be the Hour i.e. Day of Judgment. He went to the Masjid and offered the prayer with the longest Qiyam; bowing and prostration that I had ever seen him doing. Then he said; These signs which Allah sends do not occur because of the life or death of somebody; but Allah makes His worshipers afraid by them. So when you see anything thereof; proceed to remember Allah; invoke Him and ask for His forgiveness. | The Chapter on Prostration And Eclipse Of The Sun in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on To remember Allah during the eclipse in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1592 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: I used to teach the Quran to some people of the Muhajirln emigrants ; among whom there was Abdulrahman Bin Auf. While I was in his house at Mina; and he was with Umar Bin AlKhattab during Umar last Hajj; Abdulrahman came to me and said; Would that you had seen the man who came today to the Chief of the Believers Umar ; saying; O Chief of the Believers! What do you think about so-and-so who says; If Umar should die; I will give the pledge of allegiance to such-andsuch person; as by Allah; the pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr was nothing but a prompt sudden action which got established afterwards. Umar became angry and then said; Allah willing; I will stand before the people tonight and warn them against those people who want to deprive the others of their rights the question of rulership. Abdulrahman said; I said; O Chief of the believers! Do not do that; for the season of Hajj gathers the riff-raff and the rubble; and it will be they who will gather around you when you stand to address the people. And I am afraid that you will get up and say something; and some people will spread your statement and may not say what you have actually said and may not understand its meaning; and may interpret it incorrectly; so you should wait till you reach Medina; as it is the place of emigration and the place of Prophet Traditions; and there you can come in touch with the learned and noble people; and tell them your ideas with confidence; and the learned people will understand your statement and put it in its proper place. On that; Umar said; By Allah! Allah willing; I will do this in the first speech I will deliver before the people in Medina. Ibn Abbas added: We reached Medina by the end of the month of Dhu AlHijja; and when it was Friday; we went quickly to the Masjid as soon as the sun had declined; and I saw Saeed Bin Zaid Bin Amr Bin Nufail sitting at the corner of the pulpit; and I too sat close to him so that my knee was touching his knee; and after a short while Umar Bin AlKhattab came out; and when I saw him coming towards us; I said to Saeed Bin Zaid Bin Amr Bin Nufail Today Umar will say such a thing as he has never said since he was chosen as Caliph. Saeed denied my statement with astonishment and said; What thing do you expect Umar to say the like of which he has never said before? In the meantime; Umar sat on the pulpit and when the callmakers for the prayer had finished their call; Umar stood up; and having glorified and praised Allah as He deserved; he said; Now then; I am going to tell you something which Allah has written for me to say. I do not know; perhaps it portends my death; so whoever understands and remembers it; must narrate it to the others wherever his mount takes him; but if somebody is afraid that he does not understand it; then it is unlawful for him to tell lies about me. Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and revealed the Holy Book to him; and among what Allah revealed; was the Verse of the Rajam the stoning of married person male & female who commits illegal sexual intercourse; and we did recite this Verse and understood and memorized it. Allah Messenger ﷺ did carry out the punishment of stoning and so did we after him. I am afraid that after a long time has passed; somebody will say; By Allah; we do not find the Verse of the Rajam in Allah Book; and thus they will go astray by leaving an obligation which Allah has revealed. And the punishment of the Rajam is to be inflicted to any married person male & female ; who commits illegal sexual intercourse; if the required evidence is available or there is conception or confession. And then we used to recite among the Verses in Allah Book: O people! Do not claim to be the offspring of other than your fathers; as it is disbelief unthankfulness on your part that you claim to be the offspring of other than your real father. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Do not praise me excessively as Jesus; son of Marry was praised; but call me Allah Slave and His Apostles. O people! I have been informed that a speaker amongst you says; By Allah; if Umar should die; I will give the pledge of allegiance to such-and-such person. One should not deceive oneself by saying that the pledge of allegiance given to Abu Bakr was given suddenly and it was successful. No doubt; it was like that; but Allah saved the people from its evil; and there is none among you who has the qualities of Abu Bakr. Remember that whoever gives the pledge of allegiance to anybody among you without consulting the other Muslims; neither that person; nor the person to whom the pledge of allegiance was given; are to be supported; lest they both should be killed. And no doubt after the death of the Prophet ﷺ we were informed that the Ansar disagreed with us and gathered in the shed of Bani Sada. Ali and AlZubair and whoever was with them; opposed us; while the emigrants gathered with Abu Bakr. I said to Abu Bakr; Let go to these Ansari brothers of ours. So we set out seeking them; and when we approached them; two pious men of theirs met us and informed us of the final decision of the Ansar; and said; O group of Muhajirin emigrants ! Where are you going? We replied; We are going to these Ansari brothers of ours. They said to us; You shouldnt go near them. Carry out whatever we have already decided. I said; By Allah; we will go to them. And so we proceeded until we reached them at the shed of Bani Sada. Behold! There was a man sitting amongst them and wrapped in something. I asked; Who is that man? They said; He is Saad Bin Ubada. I asked; What is wrong with him? They said; He is sick. After we sat for a while; the Ansar speaker said; None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; and praising Allah as He deserved; he added; To proceed; we are Allah Ansar helpers and the majority of the Muslim army; while you; the emigrants; are a small group and some people among you came with the intention of preventing us from practicing this matter of caliphate and depriving us of it. When the speaker had finished; I intended to speak as I had prepared a speech which I liked and which I wanted to deliver in the presence of Abu Bakr; and I used to avoid provoking him. So; when I wanted to speak; Abu Bakr said; Wait a while. I disliked to make him angry. So Abu Bakr himself gave a speech; and he was wiser and more patient than I. By Allah; he never missed a sentence that I liked in my own prepared speech; but he said the like of it or better than it spontaneously. After a pause he said; O Ansar! You deserve all the qualities that you have attributed to yourselves; but this question of Caliphate is only for the Quraish as they are the best of the Arabs as regards descent and home; and I am pleased to suggest that you choose either of these two men; so take the oath of allegiance to either of them as you wish. And then Abu Bakr held my hand and Abu Ubaida Bin AlJarrah hand who was sitting amongst us. I hated nothing of what he had said except that proposal; for by Allah; I would rather have my neck chopped off as expiator for a sin than become the ruler of a nation; one of whose members is Abu Bakr; unless at the time of my death my own-self suggests something I dont feel at present. And then one of the Ansar said; I am the pillar on which the camel with a skin disease eczema rubs itself to satisfy the itching i.e.; I am a noble ; and I am as a high class palm tree! O Quraish. There should be one ruler from us and one from you. Then there was a hue and cry among the gathering and their voices rose so that I was afraid there might be great disagreement; so I said; O Abu Bakr! Hold your hand out. He held his hand out and I pledged allegiance to him; and then all the emigrants gave the Pledge of allegiance and so did the Ansar afterwards. And so we became victorious over Saad Bin Ubada whom AlAnsar wanted to make a ruler. One of the Ansar said; You have killed Saad Bin Ubada. I replied; Allah has killed Saad Bin Ubada. Umar added; By Allah; apart from the great tragedy that had happened to us i.e. the death of the Prophet ; there was no greater problem than the allegiance pledged to Abu Bakr because we were afraid that if we left the people; they might give the Pledge of allegiance after us to one of their men; in which case we would have given them our consent for something against our real wish; or would have opposed them and caused great trouble. So if any person gives the Pledge of allegiance to somebody to become a Caliph without consulting the other Muslims; then the one he has selected should not be granted allegiance; lest both of them should be killed. | The Chapter on Oaths And Pledges And Charity in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The Rajm of a married lady pregnant through illegal sexual intercourse in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1990 | Narrated AlQasim: A woman from the offspring of Jafar was afraid lest her guardian marry her to somebody against her will. So she sent for two elderly men from the Ansar; Abdulrahman and Mujammi; the two sons of Jariya; and they said to her; Dont be afraid; for Khansa bint Khidam was given by her father in marriage against her will; then the Prophet ﷺ cancelled that marriage. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2126 | Narrated Amr Bin Auf: An ally of the tribe of Bani Amir Bin Louai and one of those who had witnessed the battle of Badr with Allah Messenger ﷺ Allah Messenger ﷺ sent Abu Ubaida Bin AlJarrah to Bahrain to collect the Jizya tax. Allah Messenger ﷺ had concluded a peace treaty with the people of Bahrain and appointed AlAla Bin AlHadrami as their chief; Abu Ubaida arrived from Bahrain with the money. The Ansar heard of Abu Ubaida arrival which coincided with the Fajr morning prayer led by Allah Messenger ﷺ. When the Prophet ﷺ finished the prayer; they came to him. Allah Messenger ﷺ smiled when he saw them and said; I think you have heard of the arrival of Abu Ubaida and that he has brought something. They replied; Yes; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said; Have the good news; and hope for what will please you. By Allah; I am not afraid that you will become poor; but I am afraid that worldly wealth will be given to you in abundance as it was given to those nations before you; and you will start competing each other for it as the previous nations competed for it; and then it will divert you from good as it diverted them. | The Chapter on Military Expedition Of Bahrain in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The warning regarding worldly pleasures amusements and competing against each other in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2127 | Narrated Uqba Bin Amir: The Prophet ﷺ went out and offered the funeral prayer for the martyrs of the battle of Uhud and then ascended the pulpit and said; I am your predecessor and I am a witness against you. By Allah; I am now looking at my Tank-lake AlKauthar and I have been given the keys of the treasures of the earth or the keys of the earth. By Allah! I am not afraid that after me you will worship others besides Allah; but I am afraid that you will start competing for the pleasures of this world. | The Chapter on Worship As A Treasure in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The warning regarding worldly pleasures amusements and competing against each other in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2145 | Narrated Abu Dhar: While I was walking with the Prophet ﷺ in the Harra of Medina; Uhud came in sight. The Prophet ﷺ said; O Abu Dhar! I said; Labbaik; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said; I would not like to have gold equal to this mountain of Uhud; unless nothing of it; not even a single Dinar of it remains with me for more than three days; except something which I will keep for repaying debts. I would have spent all of it distributed it amongst Allah Slaves like this; and like this; and like this. The Prophet ﷺ pointed out with his hand towards his right; his left and his back while illustrating it. He proceeded with his walk and said; The rich are in fact the poor little rewarded on the Day of Resurrection except those who spend their wealth like this; and like this; and like this; to their right; left and back; but such people are few in number. Then he said to me; Stay at your place and do not leave it till I come back. Then he proceeded in the darkness of the night till he went out of sight; and then I heard a loud voice; and was afraid that something might have happened to the Prophet ﷺ.1 intended to go to him; but I remembered what he had said to me; i.e. Dont leave your place till I come back to you; so I remained at my place till he came back to me. I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! I heard a voice and I was afraid. So I mentioned the whole story to him. He said; Did you hear it? I replied; Yes. He said; It was Gabriel who came to me and said; Whoever died without joining others in worship with Allah; will enter Paradise. I asked Gabriel ; Even if he had committed theft or committed illegal sexual intercourse? Gabriel said; Yes; even if he had committed theft or committed illegal sexual intercourse. | The Chapter on Fornication And Adultery And Theft in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on It would not please me to have gold equal to this mountain of Uhud in Sahih AlBukhari

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2552 | Narrated Anas: The Prophet ﷺ was the best among the people both in shape and character and was the most generous of them; and was the bravest of them. Once; during the night; the people of Medina got afraid of a sound. So the people went towards that sound; but the Prophet ﷺ having gone to that sound before them; met them while he was saying; Dont be afraid; dont be afraid. At that time he was riding a horse belonging to Abu Talha and it was naked without a saddle; and he was carrying a sword slung at his neck. When Umar asked permission to enter; all of them hurried to screen themselves the Prophet ﷺ admitted Umar and he entered; while the Prophet ﷺ was smiling. Umar said; May Allah always keep you smiling; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you ! The Prophet ﷺ said; I am astonished at these women who were with me. As soon as they heard your voice; they hastened to screen themselves. Umar said; You have more right; that they should be afraid of you; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! And then he Umar turned towards them and said; O enemies of your souls! You are afraid of me and not of Allah Messenger ﷺ ? By Allah! I see my Fount Kauthar just now and I have been given the keys of all the treasures of the earth or the keys of the earth. By Allah! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2898 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: For one year I wanted to ask Umar about the two women who helped each other against the Prophet ﷺ but I was afraid of him. One day he dismounted his riding animal and went among the trees of Arak to answer the call of nature; and when he returned; I asked him and he said; They were Aisha and Hafsa. Then he added; We never used to give significance to ladies in the days of the Pre-lslamic period of ignorance; but when Islam came and Allah mentioned their rights; we used to give them their rights but did not allow them to interfere in our affairs. Once there was some dispute between me and my wife and she answered me back in a loud voice. I said to her; Strange! You can retort in this way? She said; Yes. Do you say this to me while your daughter troubles Allah Messenger ﷺ ? So I went to Hafsa and said to her; I warn you not to disobey Allah and His Apostle. I first went to Hafsa and then to Umm Salamah and told her the same. She said to me; O Umar! It surprises me that you interfere in our affairs so much that you would poke your nose even into the affairs of Allah Messenger ﷺ and his wives. So she rejected my advice. There was an Ansari man; whenever he was absent from Allah Messenger ﷺ and I was present there; I used to convey to him what had happened on that day ; and when I was absent and he was present there; he used to convey to me what had happened as regards news from Allah Messenger ﷺ. During that time all the rulers of the nearby lands had surrendered to Allah Messenger ﷺ except the king of Ghassan in Sham; and we were afraid that he might attack us. All of a sudden the Ansari came and said; A great event has happened! I asked him; What is it? Has the Ghassani king come? He said; Greater than that! Allah Messenger ﷺ has divorced his wives! I went to them and found all of them weeping in their dwellings; and the Prophet ﷺ had ascended to an upper room of his. At the door of the room there was a slave to whom I went and said; Ask the permission for me to enter. He admitted me and I entered to see the Prophet ﷺ lying on a mat that had left its imprint on his side. Under his head there was a leather pillow stuffed with palm fires. Behold! There were some hides hanging there and some grass for tanning. Then I mentioned what I had said to Hafsa and Umm Salamah and what reply Umm Salamah had given me. Allah Messenger ﷺ smiled and stayed there for twenty nine days and then came down. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-323 | Narrated Aisha: Allah Messenger ﷺ in his fatal illness said; Allah cursed the Jews and the Christians; for they built the places of worship at the graves of their prophets. And if that had not been the case; then the Prophet grave would have been made prominent before the people. So the Prophet ﷺ was afraid; or the people were afraid that his grave might be taken as a place for worship. | The Chapter on Funerals And Asking For Mercy in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The graves of the Prophet pbuh Abu Bakr and Umar Radiyallahu Anhu in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3279 | Narrated Aslam: Allah Messenger ﷺ was traveling on one of his journeys; and Umar Bin AlKhattab was traveling along with him at night. Umar asked him about something; but Allah Messenger ﷺ did not answer him. He asked again; but he did not answer. He asked for the third time; but he did not answer. On that; Umar said to himself; May your mother lose you! You have asked Allah Messenger ﷺ three times; but he did not answer at all! Umar said; So I made my camel go fast till I was ahead of the people; and I was afraid that something might be revealed about me. After a little while I heard a call maker calling me; I said; I was afraid that some Quranic Verse might be revealed about me. So I went to Allah Apostle and greeted him. He said; Tonight there has been revealed to me a Surah which is dearer to me than that on which the sun shines i.e. the world. Then he recited: Verily! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3285 | Narrated Usaid Bin Hudair: That while he was reciting Surat AlBaqara The Cow at night; and his horse was tied beside him; the horse was suddenly startled and troubled. When he stopped reciting; the horse became quiet; and when he started again; the horse was startled again. Then he stopped reciting and the horse became quiet too. He started reciting again and the horse was startled and troubled once again. Then he stopped reciting and his son; Yahya was beside the horse. He was afraid that the horse might trample on him. When he took the boy away and looked towards the sky; he could not see it. The next morning he informed the Prophet who said; Recite; O Ibn Hudair! Recite; O Ibn Hudair! Ibn Hudair replied; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! My son; Yahya was near the horse and I was afraid that it might trample on him; so I looked towards the sky; and went to him. When I looked at the sky; I saw something like a cloud containing what looked like lamps; so I went out in order not to see it. The Prophet ﷺ said; Do you know what that was? Ibn Hudair replied; No. The Prophet ﷺ said; Those were Angels who came near to you for your voice and if you had kept on reciting till dawn; it would have remained there till morning when people would have seen it as it would not have disappeared. | The Chapter on Horses And Makkah in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The descent of AlSakinah and angels at the time of the recitation of the Quran in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3774 | Narrated Anas Bin Malik: Allah Messenger ﷺ arrived at Medina with Abu Bakr; riding behind him on the same camel. Abu Bakr was an elderly man known to the people; while Allah Messenger ﷺ was a youth that was unknown. Thus; if a man met Abu Bakr; he would say; O Abu Bakr! Who is this man in front of you? Abu Bakr would say; This man shows me the Way; One would think that Abu Bakr meant the road; while in fact; Abu Bakr meant the way of virtue and good. Then Abu Bakr looked behind and saw a horse-rider pursuing them. He said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! This is a horse-rider pursuing us. The Prophet ﷺ looked behind and said; O Allah! Cause him to fall down. So the horse threw him down and got up neighing. After that the rider; Suraqa said; O Allah Prophet! Order me whatever you want. The Prophet said; Stay where you are and do not allow anybody to reach us. So; in the first part of the day Suraqa was an enemy of Allah Prophet and in the last part of it; he was a protector. Then Allah Apostle alighted by the side of the AlHarra and sent a message to the Ansar; and they came to Allah Prophet and Abu Bakr; and having greeted them; they said; Ride your camels safe and obeyed. Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr rode and the Ansar; carrying their arms; surrounded them. The news that Allah Prophet had come circulated in Medina. The people came out and were eagerly looking and saying Allah Prophet has come! Allah Prophet has come! So the Prophet ﷺ went on till he alighted near the house of Abu Ayoub. While the Prophet ﷺ was speaking with the family members of Abu Ayoub ; Abdullah Bin Salam heard the news of his arrival while he himself was picking the dates for his family from his family garden. He hurried to the Prophet ﷺ carrying the dates which he had collected for his family from the garden. He listened to Allah Prophet and then went home. Then Allah Prophet said; Which is the nearest of the houses of our kith and kin? Abu Ayoub replied; Mine; O Allah Prophet! This is my house and this is my gate. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go and prepare a place for our midday rest. Abu Ayoub said; Get up both of you with Allah Blessings. So when Allah Prophet went into the house; Abdullah Bin Salam came and said I testify that you i.e. Muhammad are Apostle of Allah and that you have come with the Truth. The Jews know well that I am their chief and the son of their chief and the most learned amongst them and the son of the most learned amongst them. So send for them i.e. Jews and ask them about me before they know that I have embraced Islam; for if they know that they will say about me things which are not correct. So Allah Messenger ﷺ sent for them; and they came and entered. Allah Messenger ﷺ said to them; O the group of Jews! Woe to you: be afraid of Allah. By Allah except Whom none has the right to be worshipped; you people know for certain; that I am Apostle of Allah and that I have come to you with the Truth; so embrace Islam. The Jews replied; We do not know this. So they said this to the Prophet and he repeated it thrice. Then he said; What sort of a man is Abdullah Bin Salam amongst you? They said; He is our chief and the son of our chief and the most learned man; and the son of the most learned amongst us. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; O Ibn Salam! Come out to them. He came out and said; O the group of Jews! Be afraid of Allah except Whom none has the right to be worshipped. You know for certain that he is Apostle of Allah and that he has brought a True Religion! They said; You tell a lie. On that Allah Messenger ﷺ turned them out. | The Chapter on Pre-Islam And Jews in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The emigration of the Prophet to AlMadina in Sahih AlBukhari

Your Companions convey their greetings of Salam to you; and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. They were afraid that they may be intercepted and cut off from you; so wait for them.
