I read in it that Allah Messenger ﷺ in one of his military expeditions against the enemy; waited till the sun declined and then he got up amongst the people saying; O people! Do not wish to meet the enemy; and ask Allah for safety; but when you face the enemy; be patient; and remember that Paradise is under the shades of swords. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4702 | Narrated AlBara Bin Azib: The Prophet ﷺ appointed Abdullah Bin Jubair as the commander of the infantry men archers who were fifty on the day of the battle of Uhud. He instructed them; Stick to your place; and dont leave it even if you see birds snatching us; till I send for you; and if you see that we have defeated the infidels and made them flee; even then you should not leave your place till I send for you. Then the infidels were defeated. By Allah; I saw the women fleeing lifting up their clothes revealing their leg-bangles and their legs. So; the companions of Abdullah Bin Jubair said; The booty! O people; the booty ! Your companions have become victorious; what are you waiting for now? Abdullah Bin Jubair said; Have you forgotten what Allah Messenger ﷺ said to you? They replied; By Allah! We will go to the people i.e. the enemy and collect our share from the war booty. But when they went to them; they were forced to turn back defeated. At that time Allah Messenger ﷺ in their rear was calling them back. Only twelve men remained with the Prophet ﷺ and the infidels martyred seventy men from us. On the day of the battle of Badr; the Prophet ﷺ and his companions had caused the Pagans to lose 140 men; seventy of whom were captured and seventy were killed. Then Abu Sufyan asked thrice; Is Muhammad present amongst these people? The Prophet ﷺ ordered his companions not to answer him. Then he asked thrice; Is the son of Abu Quhafa present amongst these people? He asked again thrice; Is the son of AlKhattab present amongst these people? He then returned to his companions and said; As for these men ; they have been killed. Umar could not control himself and said to Abu Sufyan ; You told a lie; by Allah! O enemy of Allah! All those you have mentioned are alive; and the thing which will make you unhappy is still there. Abu Sufyan said; Our victory today is a counterbalance to yours in the battle of Badr; and in war the victory is always undecided and is shared in turns by the belligerents; and you will find some of your killed men mutilated; but I did not urge my men to do so; yet I do not feel sorry for their deed After that he started reciting cheerfully; O Hubal; be high! 1 On that the Prophet ﷺ said to his companions ; Why dont you answer him back? They said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ What shall we say? He said; Say; Allah is Higher and more Sublime. Then Abu Sufyan said; We have the idol AlUzza; and you have no Uzza. The Prophet said to his companions ; Why dont you answer him back? They asked; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! What shall we say? The believers will be afflicted with something like cold only thereof. That news scared us; so I went to Abdullah Ibn Masud while he was reclining and told him the story whereupon he became angry; sat up and said; He who knows a thing can say; it; but if he does not know; he should say; Allah knows best; for it is an aspect of knowledge to say; I do not know; if you do not know a certain thing. Allah said to His prophet. Say O Muhammad : No wage do I ask of you for this Quran ; nor I am one of the pretenders a person who pretends things which do not exist. 38.86 The Quraish delayed in embracing Islam for a period; so the Prophet ﷺ invoked evil on them; saying; O Allah! Help me against them by sending seven years of famine like those of Joseph. So they were afflicted with such a severe year of famine that they were destroyed therein and ate dead animals and bones. They started seeing something like smoke between the sky and the earth because of severe hunger. Abu Sufyan then came to the Prophet and said; O Muhammad! You came to order us for to keep good relations with Kith and kin; and your kinsmen have now perished; so please invoke Allah to relieve them. Then Ibn Masud recited:- Then watch you for the day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke plainly visible....but truly you will return! to disbelief 44.10-15 Ibn Masud added; Then the punishment was stopped; but truly; they reverted to heathenism their old way. SahihMuslim-017-001-18077 | A version of the tradition has been transmitted through another chain of narrators. In this version the words uttered by the Prophet ﷺ after he had thrown the pebbles in the face of the enemy are reported as: By the Lord of the Kaba; they have been defeated. And there is at the end the addition of the words: Until Allah defeated them and I imagine as if I saw the Prophet of Allah ﷺ chasing them on his mule. | The Chapter on Almaghazi And Khaibar in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 28 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18083 | This tradition has been narrated on the authority of Salama who said: We fought by the side of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Hunain. When we encountered the enemy; I advanced and ascended a hillock. A man from the enemy side turned towards me and I shot him with an arrow. He ducked and hid himself from me. I could not understand what he did; but all of a sudden I saw that a group of people appeared from the other hillock. They and the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ met in combat; but the Companions of the Prophet turned back and I too turned back defeated. I had two mantles; one of which I was wrapping round the waist covering the lower part of my body and the other I was putting around my shoulders. My waist-wrapper got loose and I held the two mantles together. In this downcast condition I passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who was riding on his white mule. He said: The son of Akwa finds himself to be utterly perplexed. Wher. the Companions gathered round him from all sides. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ got down from his mule. picked up a handful of dust from the ground; threw it into their enemy faces and said: May these faces be deformed 1 There was no one among the enemy whose eyes were not filled with the dust from this handful. So they turned back fleeing. and Allah the Exalted and Glorious defeated them; and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed their booty among the Muslims. | The Chapter on Directions Turning in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 28 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18566 | It is narrated on the authority of Usama Bin Zaid: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us to Huraqat; a tribe of Juhaina. We attacked that tribe early in the morning and defeated them and I and a man from the Ansar caught hold of a person of the defeated tribe. When we overcame him; he said: There is no god but Allah. At that moment the Ansari spared him; but I attacked him with my spear and killed him. The news had already reached the Apostle ﷺ ; so when we came back he the Apostle said to me: Usama; did you kill him after he had made the profession: There is no god but Allah? I said. Messenger of Allah; he did it only as a shelter. The Prophet observed: Did you kill him after he had made the profession that there is no god but Allah? He the Holy Prophet went on repeating this to me till I wished I had not embraced Islam before that day. | The Chapter on Horses And Battels in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 41 in Sahih Muslim |

SunanAlTermithi-017-001-10070 | Narrated Saeed Bin Jubair: from Ibn Abbas; regarding the saying of Allah; Most High: Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated. In the nearest land 30:1-3 he said: Ghulibat wa Ghalabat defeated and then victorious. He said: The idolaters wanted the Persians to be victorious over the Romans because they too were people who worshiped idols; while the Muslims wanted the Romans to be victorious over the Persians because they were people of the Book. This was mentioned to Abu Bakr; so Abu Bakr mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said: They will certainly prevail. Abu Bakr mentioned that to them; and they said: Make a wager between us and you; if we win; we shall get this and that; and if you win; you shall get this or that. He made the term five years; but they the Romans were not victorious. They mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ and he said: Why did you not make it less than - He one of the narrators said : I think he said: ten? He said: Saeed said: AlBid is what is less than then - he said: Afterwards the Romans have been victorious. He said: That is what Allah Most High said: Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated up to His saying: And on the day; the believers will rejoice - with the help of Allah. He helps whom He wills 30:1-5. Sufyan said: I heard that they were victorious over them on the Day of Badr. | The Chapter on Friday Victory Romans And Badr in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Chapters on Tafsir in Sunan AlTermithi
SunanAlTermithi-017-001-10071 | Narrated Niyar Bin Mukram AlAslami: When the following was revealed: Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated. In the nearest land; and they; after their defeat; will be victorious in Bid years 30:1-4. - on the day that these Ayat were revealed; the Persians had defeated the Romans; and the Muslims had wanted the Romans to be victorious over them; because they were the people of the Book. So Allah said about that: And on that day; the believers will rejoice - with the help of Allah. He helps whom He wills; and He is the Almighty; the Most Merciful 30:4 & 5. The Quraish wanted the Persians to be victorious since they were not people of the Book; nor did they believe in the Resurrection. So when Allah revealed these Ayat; Abu Bakr AlSiddiq; may Allah be pleased with him; went out; proclaiming throughout Makkah: Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated. In the nearest land; and they; after their defeat; will be victorious; in Bid years 30:1-4. Some of the Quraish said: Then this is a bet between us and you. Your companion claims that the Romans will defeat the Persians in Bid years; so why have have a bet on that between us and you? Abu Bakr said: Yes. This was before betting has been forbidden. So Abu Bakr and the idolaters made a bet; and they said to Abu Bakr: What do you think - Bid means something between three and nine years; so let us agree on the middle. So they agreed on six years; Then six years passed without the Romans being victorious. The idolaters took what they won in the bet from Abu Bakr. When the seventh year came and the Romans were finally victorious over the Persians; the Muslims rebuked Abu Bakr for agreeing to six years. He said: Because Allah said: In Bid years. At that time; many people became Muslims. | The Chapter on Friday Victory Romans And Badr in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Chapters on Tafsir in Sunan AlTermithi
