The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted upon it till midday; and then they were worn out and were given for their labor; one Qirat each. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted upon it till the time of the Asr prayer; and then they were worn out and were given for their labor ; one Qirat each. Then you people were given the Quran and you acted upon it till sunset and so you were given two Qirats each double the reward of the previous nations. Then the people of the Torah said; O our Lord! These people have done a little labor much less than we but have taken a greater reward. Allah said; Have I withheld anything from your reward? They said; No. Then Allah said; That is My Favor which I bestow on whom I wish. | The Chapter on Jihad And Alhajj in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Allahs Wish and Will in Sahih AlBukhari

Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted on it till Asr Prayer and then they were unable to carry on; so they were given la reward equal to one Qirat each. Then you were given the Quran and you acted on it till sunset; therefore you were given a reward equal to two Qirats each. On that; the people of the Scriptures said; These people Muslims did less work than we but they took a bigger reward. Allah said to them. Have I done any oppression to you as regards your rights? The Prophet said; No; for he has companions who are apparently so pious that if anyone of you compares his prayer with their prayer; he will consider his prayer inferior to theirs; and similarly his fasting inferior to theirs; but they will desert Islam go out of religion as an arrow goes through the victim body games etc. in which case if its Nasl is examined nothing will be seen thereon; and if its Nady is examined; nothing will be seen thereon; and if its Qudhadh is examined; nothing will be seen thereon; for the arrow has gone out too fast even for the excretions and blood to smear over it. Such people will come out at the time of difference among the Muslim people and the sign by which they will be recognized; will be a man whose one of the two hands will look like the breast of a woman or a lump of flesh moving loosely. I said: It was I; then I said: I was in fact not busy in prayer; but was stung by a scorpion and that is the reason why I was awake and had a glimpse of the shooting star. He said: Then what did you do? I said: I practised charm. He said: What urged you to do this? I said: I did this according to the implied suggestion of the hadith which AlShuba narrated. He said: What did AlShuba narrate to you? I said: Buraida Bin Husaib AlAslami narrated to us. The charm is of no avail except in case of the evil influence of an eye or the sting of a scorpion. He said: He who acted according to what he had heard from the Holy Prophet acted rightly; but Ibn Abbas narrated to us from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he said: There were brought before me the peoples and I saw an apostle and a small group of his followers along with him; another apostle and one or two persons along with him and still another apostle having no one with him. When a very large group was brought to me I conceived as if it were my Ummah. Then it was said to me: It is Moses and his people. You should look at the horizon; and I saw a very huge group. It was again said to me: See the other side of the horizon; and there was also a very huge group. It was said to me: This is your Ummah; and amongst them there were seventy thousand persons who would be made to enter Paradise without rendering any account and without suffering any torment. He then stood up and went to his house. Then the people began to talk about the people who would be admitted to Paradise without rendering any account and without suffering any torment. Some of them said: They may be those who have had the good fortune of living in the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and some of them said: They be those who were born in Islam and did not associate anything with Allah. Some people mentioned other things. Thereupon came forth the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before them and he said: What was that which you were talking about? They informed him. He said: They are those persons who neither practise charm; nor ask others to practise it; nor do they take omens; and repose their trust in their Lord. Upon this Ukkasha Bin Mihsan stood up and said: Supplicate for me that He should make me one among them. Upon this he Messenger of Allah said: Thou are one among them. I said: Of course; it is something which is predetermined for them and preordained for them. He further said: Then; would it not be an injustice to punish them ? When they intended to return; they said: Messenger of Allah; who will lead us in prayer? He said: The one of you who knows most of the Quran; or memorizes most of the Quran; should act as your imam. There was none in the clan who knew more of the Quran than I did. They; therefore; put me in front of them and I was only a boy. And I wore a mantle; Whenever I was present in the gathering of Jarm name of his clan ; I would act as their Imam; and lead them in their funeral prayer until today.Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated by Amr Bin Salamah through a different chain of transmitter. We visited him to inquire about his illness. We found him praying sitting in the apartment of Aisha. We; therefore; stood; praying behind him. He kept silent. We again visited him to inquire about his illness. He offered the obligatory prayer sitting. We; therefore; stood praying behind him; he made a sign to us and we sat down. MuwataMalik-017-001-34665 | Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd Ibn Abi Unaysa that Abd AlHamid Ibn Abdulrahman Ibn Zayd Ibn AlKhattab informed him from Muslim Ibn Yasar AlJuhani that Umar Ibn AlKhattab was asked about this ayat - When your Lord took their progeny from the Banu Adam from their backs and made them testify against themselves. Am I not your Lord? They said; Yes; we bear witness Lest you should say on the Day of Rising; We were heedless of that. Surat 7 ayat 172 Umar Ibn AlKhattab said; I heard the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; being asked about it. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; Allah; the Blessed; the Exalted; created Adam. Then He stroked his back with His right hand; and progeny issued from it. He said; I created these for the Garden and they will act with the behaviour of the people of the Garden. Then He stroked his back again and brought forth progeny from him. He said; I created these for the Fire and they will act with the behaviour of the people of the Fire. A man said; Messenger of Allah! Then of what value are deeds? The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; answered; When Allah creates a slave for the Garden; he makes him use the behaviour of the people of the Garden; so that he dies on one of the actions of the people of the Garden and by it He brings him into the Garden. When He creates a slave for the Fire; He makes him use the behaviour of the people of the Fire; so that he dies on one of the actions of the people of the Fire; and by it; He brings him into the Fire. | The Chapter on Good Deeds To Save Oneself From Hell Fire in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Purity in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35464 | Yahya related to me from Malik that he had asked Ibn Shihab whether someone doing itikaf could go into a house to relieve himself; and he said; Yes; there is no harm in that. Malik said; The situation that we are all agreed upon here is that there is no disapproval of anyone doing itikaf in a Masjid where jumua is held. The only reason I see for disapproving of doing itikaf in a Masjid where jumua is not held is that the man doing itikaf would have to leave the Masjid where he was doing itikaf in order to go to jumua; or else not go there at all. If; however; he is doing itikaf in a Masjid where jumua is not held; and he does not have to go to jumua in any other Masjid; then I see no harm in him doing itikaf there; because Allah; the Blessed and Exalted; says; While you are doing itikaf in Masjids; and refers to all Masjids in general; without specifying any particular kind. Malik continued; Accordingly; it is permissiblefor a man to do itikaf in a Masjid where jumua is not held if he does not have to leave it to go to a Masjid where jumua is held. Malik said; A person doing itikaf should spend the night only in the Masjid where he is doing itikaf; except if his tent is in one of the courtyards of the Masjid. I have never heard that someone doing itikaf can put up a shelter anywhere except in the Masjid itself or in one of the courtyards of the Masjid. Part of what shows that he must spend the night in the Masjid is the saying of Aisha; When the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; was doing itikaf; he would only go into the house to relieve himself. Nor should he do itikaf on the roof of the Masjid or in the minaret. Malik said; The person who is going to do itikaf should enter the place where he wishes to do itikaf before the sun sets on the night when he wishes to begin his itikaf; so that he is ready to begin the itikaf at the beginning of the night when he is going to start his itikaf. A person doing itikaf should be occupied with his itikaf; and not turn his attention to other things which might occupy him; such as trading or whatever. There is no harm; however; if some one doing itikaf tells some one to do something for him regarding his estate; or the affairs of his family; or tells someone to sell some property of his; or something else that does not occupy him directly. There is no harm in him arranging for someone else to do that for him if it is a simple matter. Malik said; I have never heard any of the people of knowledge mentioning any modification as far as how to do itikaf is concerned. Itikaf is an act of ibada like the prayer; fasting; the hajj; and such like acts; whether they are obligatory or voluntary. Anyone who begins doing any of these acts should do them according to what has come down in the sunna. He should not start doing anything in them that the muslims have not done; whether it is a modification that he imposes on others; or one that he begins doing himself. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; practised itikaf; and the muslims know what the sunna of itikaf is. Malik said; Itikaf and jiwar are the same; and Itikaf is the same for a village-dweller as it is for a nomad. | The Chapter on Ramadan And Fasting And Kabah in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Divorce in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35626 | Yahya related to me from Malik from Said Ibn Abi Said AlMaqburi from his father that he had asked Abu Huraira; How do you pray over the dead? and Abu Huraira replied; By the Life of Allah; I will tell you! I follow with the family and when the corpse is put down I say Allah is greater and praise Allah and ask for blessings on His Prophet. Then I say; O Allah; he is Your slave and the son of Your male slave and Your female slave. He used to testify that there is no god but You and that Muhammad is Your slave and Your Messenger; and You know that best. O Allah; if he acted well; then increase for him his good action; and if he acted wrongly; then overlook his wrong actions. O Allah; do not deprive us of his reward; and do not try us after him. Allahumma inna huwa abduka wabnu Abd ka wabnu amatika. Kana yash-hadu an la ilaha illa ant wa anna Muhammadan abduka wa rasooluka; wa anta alamu bihi. Allahumma in kana muhsinan zid fi ihsanihi; wa in kana musiyan fa tajawaz an sayatihi. Allahumma la tahrimna ajrahu wa lataftina badahu. | The Chapter on Selling Of Slaves in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hajj in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35722 | Yahya related to me from Malik that he had asked Ibn Shihab about the word of Allah; the Majestic; the Mighty; O you who accept; when the call is made for the prayer on the day of jumua; make haste to the remembrance of Allah. Surat 62 ayat 9. Ibn Shihab said; Umar Ibn AlKhattab used to recite; When the call is made for the prayer on the day of jumua; go to the remembrance of Allah. Malik said; Making haste in the Book of Allah is only deed and action. Allah the Blessed; the Exalted; says and when he turns away; he acts in the land Surat 2 ayat 205 ; and He; the Exalted; said; and as for the one who comes to you acting with fear Surat 80 ayat 8 ; and He said; then he turned his back; and acted Surat 79 ayat 22 ;and He said; Your deeds are diverse Surat 92 ayat 4. Malik said; Thus making haste which Allah mentions in His Book is not running on the feet or exertion. It only means deed and actions. | The Chapter on Recitation Of Ayat in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hajj in Muwata Malik |
