SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1419 | Narrated Abdullah Bin Abbas: Uyaina Bin Housn Bin Hudhaifa Bin Badr came and stayed at Medina with his nephew AlHurr Bin Qais Bin Housn who was one of those whom Umar used to keep near him; as the Qurra learned men knowing Quran by heart were the people of Umar meetings and his advisors whether they were old or young. Uyaina said to his nephew; O my nephew! Have you an approach to this chief so as to get for me the permission to see him? His nephew said; I will get the permission for you to see him. Ibn Abbas added: So he took the permission for Uyaina; and when the latter entered; he said; O the son of AlKhattab! By Allah; you neither give us sufficient provision nor judge among us with justice. On that Umar became so furious that he intended to harm him. AlHurr; said; O Chief of the Believers! Allah said to His Apostle Hold to forgiveness; command what is good right ; and leave the foolish i.e. do not punish them. 7.199 and this person is among the foolish. By Allah; Umar did not overlook that Verse when AlHurr recited it before him; and Umar said to observe the orders of Allah Book strictly. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1455 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: I used to teach Quran to Abdulrahman Bin Auf. When Umar performed his last Hajj; Abdulrahman said to me at Mina; Would that you had seen Chief of the believers today! A man came to him and said; So-and-so has said; If Chief of the Believers died; we will give the oath of allegiance to such-and-such person; Umar said; I will get up tonight and warn those who want to usurp the people rights. I said; Do not do so; for the season of Hajj gathers the riffraff mob who will form the majority of your audience; and I am afraid that they will not understand the meaning of your saying properly and may spread an incorrect statement everywhere. You should wait till we reach Medina; the place of migration and the place of the Sunna the Prophet Traditions. There you will meet the companions of Allah Messenger ﷺ from the Muhajirin and the Ansar who will understand your statement and place it in its proper position Umar said; By Allah; I shall do so the first time I stand to address the people in Medina. When we reached Medina; Umar in a Friday Khutba-sermon said; No doubt; Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and revealed to him the Book Quran ; and among what was revealed; was the Verse of AlRajm stoning adulterers to death. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1957 | Narrated Aisha: Mother of the Believers: We; the wives of the Prophet ﷺ were all sitting with the Prophet ﷺ and none of us had left when Fatima came walking; and by Allah; her gait was very similar to that of Allah Messenger ﷺ. When he saw her; he welcomed her; saying; Welcome; O my daughter! Then he made her sit on his right or his left; confided something to her; whereupon she wept bitterly. When he noticed her sorrow; he confided something else to her for the second time; and she started laughing. Only I from among the Prophet wives said to her; O Fatima ; Allah Messenger ﷺ selected you from among us for the secret talk and still you weep? When Allah Messenger ﷺ got up and went away ; I asked her; What did he confide to you? She said; I wouldnt disclose the secrets of Allah Messenger ﷺ But when he died I asked her; I beseech you earnestly by what right I have on you; to tell me that secret talk which the Prophet had with you She said; As you ask me now; yes; I will tell you. She informed me; saying; When he talked to me secretly the first time; he said that Gabriel used to review the Quran with him once every year. He added; But this year he reviewed it with me twice; and therefore I think that my time of death has approached. So; be afraid of Allah; and be patient; for I am the best predecessor for you in the Hereafter. Fatima added; So I wept as you Aisha witnessed. And when the Prophet ﷺ saw me in this sorrowful state; he confided the second secret to me saying; O Fatima! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2409 | Narrated Abu Saeed AlKhudri: Some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ came across a tribe amongst the tribes of the Arabs; and that tribe did not entertain them. While they were in that state; the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake or stung by a scorpion. They said; to the companions of the Prophet ﷺ ; Have you got any medicine with you or anybody who can treat with Ruqya? The Prophet companions said; You refuse to entertain us; so we will not treat your chief unless you pay us for it. So they agreed to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them the Prophet companions started reciting Surat AlFatiha and gathering his saliva and spitting it at the snake-bite. The patient got cured and his people presented the sheep to them; but they said; We will not take it unless we ask the Prophet whether it is lawful. When they asked him; he smiled and said; How do you know that Surat AlFatiha is a Ruqya? So he admitted them and they entered; greeted; and sat down. After a short while Yarfa came again and said to Umar Shall I admit Ali and Abbas? Umar said; Yes. He admitted them and when they entered; they greeted and sat down. Abbas said; O Chief of the Believers! Judge between me and this Ali. I beseech you by Allah; by Whose permission both the Heaven and the Earth stand fast ! Do you know that Allah Messenger ﷺ said. We Apostles do not bequeath anything to our heirs; but whatever we leave is to be given in charity. And by that Allah Messenger ﷺ s meant himself? The group said; He did say so. Umar then turned towards All and Abbas and said. I beseech you both by Allah; do you know that Allah Messenger ﷺ said that? They said; Yes Umar said; Now; let me talk to you about this matter. Allah favored His Apostle with something of this property war booty which He did not give to anybody else. And Allah said:- And what Allah has bestowed on His Apostle as Fai Booty from them for which you made no expedition with either cavalry or camelry... Allah is Able to do all things. 59.6 So this property was especially granted to Allah Messenger ﷺ. But by Allah he neither withheld it from you; nor did he keep it for himself and deprive you of it; but he gave it all to you and distributed it among you till only this remained out of it. And out of this property Allah Messenger ﷺ used to provide his family with their yearly needs; and whatever remained; he would spend where Allah Property the revenues of Zakat used to be spent. Allah Messenger ﷺ kept on acting like this throughout his lifetime. Now I beseech you by Allah; do you know that? They said; Yes. Then Umar said to Ali and Abbas; I beseech you by Allah; do you both know that? They said; Yes. Umar added; When Allah had taken His Apostle unto Him; Abu Bakr said; I am the successor of Allah Messenger ﷺ. So he took charge of that property and did with it the same what Allah Messenger ﷺ used to do; and both of you knew all about it then. Then Umar turned towards Ali and Abbas and said; You both claim that Abu Bakr was so-and-so! But Allah knows that he was honest; sincere; pious and right in that matter. Then Allah caused Abu Bakr to die; and I said; I am the successor of Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr. So I kept this property in my possession for the first two years of my rule; and I used to do the same with it as Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr used to do. Later both of you Ali and Abbas came to me with the same claim and the same problem. O Abbas! You came to me demanding your share from the inheritance of the son of your brother; and he Ali came to me demanding his wives share from the inheritance of her father. So I said to you; If you wish I will hand over this property to you; on condition that you both promise me before Allah that you will manage it in the same way as Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr did; and as I have done since the beginning of my rule; otherwise you should not speak to me about it. So you both said; Hand over this property to us on this condition. And on this condition I handed it over to you. I beseech you by Allah; did I hand it over to them on that condition? The group said; Yes. Umar then faced Ali and Abbas and said; I beseech you both by Allah; did I hand it over to you both on that condition? They both said; Yes. Umar added; Do you want me now to give a decision other than that? By Him with Whose permission order both the Heaven and the Earth stand fast; I will never give any decision other than that till the Hour is established! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-327 | Narrated Amr Bin Maimun AlAudi: I saw Umar Bin AlKhattab when he was stabbed saying; O Abdullah Bin Umar! Go to the mother of the believers Aisha and say; Umar Bin AlKhattab sends his greetings to you; and request her to allow me to be buried with my companions. So; Ibn Umar conveyed the message to Aisha. She said; I had the idea of having this place for myself but today I prefer him Umar to myself and allow him to be buried there. When Abdullah Bin Umar returned; Umar asked him; What news do you have? He replied; O chief of the believers! She has allowed you to be buried there. On that Umar said; Nothing was more important to me than to be buried in that sacred place. So; when I expire; carry me there and pay my greetings to her Aisha and say; Umar Bin AlKhattab asks permission; and if she gives permission; then bury me there and if she does not; then take me to the graveyard of the Muslims. I do not think any person has more right for the caliphate than those with whom Allah Messenger ﷺ ﷺ was always pleased till his death. And whoever is chosen by the people after me will be the caliph; and you people must listen to him and obey him; and then he mentioned the name of Uthman; Ali; Talha ; AlZubair; Abdulrahman Bin Auf and Saad Bin Abi Waqqas. By this time a young man from Ansar came and said; O chief of the believers! Be happy with Allah glad tidings. The grade which you have in Islam is known to you; then you became the caliph and you ruled with justice and then you have been awarded martyrdom after all this. Umar replied; O son of my brother! Would that all that privileges will counterbalance my short comings ; so that I neither lose nor gain anything. I recommend my successor to be good to the early emigrants and realize their rights and to protect their honor and sacred things. And I also recommend him to be good to the Ansar who before them; had homes in Medina and had adopted the Faith. He should accept the good of the righteous among them and should excuse their wrongdoers. Then one of our men went along with her though we did not think that he knew any such treatment. But he treated the chief by reciting something; and the sick man recovered whereupon he gave him thirty sheep and gave us milk to drink as a reward. When he returned; we asked our friend; Did you know how to treat with the recitation of something? He said; No; but I treated him only with the recitation of the Mother of the Book i.e.; AlFatiha. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3774 | Narrated Anas Bin Malik: Allah Messenger ﷺ arrived at Medina with Abu Bakr; riding behind him on the same camel. Abu Bakr was an elderly man known to the people; while Allah Messenger ﷺ was a youth that was unknown. Thus; if a man met Abu Bakr; he would say; O Abu Bakr! Who is this man in front of you? Abu Bakr would say; This man shows me the Way; One would think that Abu Bakr meant the road; while in fact; Abu Bakr meant the way of virtue and good. Then Abu Bakr looked behind and saw a horse-rider pursuing them. He said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! This is a horse-rider pursuing us. The Prophet ﷺ looked behind and said; O Allah! Cause him to fall down. So the horse threw him down and got up neighing. After that the rider; Suraqa said; O Allah Prophet! Order me whatever you want. The Prophet said; Stay where you are and do not allow anybody to reach us. So; in the first part of the day Suraqa was an enemy of Allah Prophet and in the last part of it; he was a protector. Then Allah Apostle alighted by the side of the AlHarra and sent a message to the Ansar; and they came to Allah Prophet and Abu Bakr; and having greeted them; they said; Ride your camels safe and obeyed. Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr rode and the Ansar; carrying their arms; surrounded them. The news that Allah Prophet had come circulated in Medina. The people came out and were eagerly looking and saying Allah Prophet has come! Allah Prophet has come! So the Prophet ﷺ went on till he alighted near the house of Abu Ayoub. While the Prophet ﷺ was speaking with the family members of Abu Ayoub ; Abdullah Bin Salam heard the news of his arrival while he himself was picking the dates for his family from his family garden. He hurried to the Prophet ﷺ carrying the dates which he had collected for his family from the garden. He listened to Allah Prophet and then went home. Then Allah Prophet said; Which is the nearest of the houses of our kith and kin? Abu Ayoub replied; Mine; O Allah Prophet! This is my house and this is my gate. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go and prepare a place for our midday rest. Abu Ayoub said; Get up both of you with Allah Blessings. So when Allah Prophet went into the house; Abdullah Bin Salam came and said I testify that you i.e. Muhammad are Apostle of Allah and that you have come with the Truth. The Jews know well that I am their chief and the son of their chief and the most learned amongst them and the son of the most learned amongst them. So send for them i.e. Jews and ask them about me before they know that I have embraced Islam; for if they know that they will say about me things which are not correct. So Allah Messenger ﷺ sent for them; and they came and entered. Allah Messenger ﷺ said to them; O the group of Jews! Woe to you: be afraid of Allah. By Allah except Whom none has the right to be worshipped; you people know for certain; that I am Apostle of Allah and that I have come to you with the Truth; so embrace Islam. The Jews replied; We do not know this. So they said this to the Prophet and he repeated it thrice. Then he said; What sort of a man is Abdullah Bin Salam amongst you? They said; He is our chief and the son of our chief and the most learned man; and the son of the most learned amongst us. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3795 | Narrated Anas Bin Malik: When Allah Messenger ﷺ arrived at Medina; he alighted at the upper part of Medina among the people called Bani Amr Bin Auf and he stayed with them for fourteen nights. Then he sent for the chiefs of Bani AlNajjar; and they came; carrying their swords. As if I am just now looking at Allah Messenger ﷺ on his camel with Abu Bakr riding behind him on the same camel and the chiefs of Bani AlNajjar around him till he dismounted in the courtyard of Abu Ayoub home. The Prophet ﷺ used to offer the prayer wherever the prayer was due; and he would pray even in sheepfolds. Then he ordered that the Masjid be built. He sent for the chiefs of Banu AlNajjar; and when they came; he said; O Banu AlNajjar! Suggest to me the price of this garden of yours. They replied No! By Allah; we do not demand its price except from Allah. In that garden there were the following things that I will tell you: Graves of pagans; unleveled land with holes and pits etc.; and date-palm trees. Allah Messenger ﷺ ordered that the graves of the pagans be dug up and; the unleveled land be leveled and the date-palm trees be cut down. I asked; Will there be good after that evil? He said; Yes; but it would be tained with Dakhan i.e. Little evil. I asked; What will its Dakhan be? So; I went along with him till I entered the place where Umar was sitting on a bedstead made of date-palm leaves and covered with no mattress; and he was leaning over a leather pillow. I greeted him and sat down. He said; O Mali! Some persons of your people who have families came to me and I have ordered that a gift should be given to them; so take it and distribute it among them. I said; O chief of the believers! I wish that you order someone else to do it. He said; O man! Take it. While I was sitting there with him; his doorman Yarfa came saying; Uthman; Abdulrahman Bin Auf; AlZubair and Saad Bin Abi Waqqas are asking your permission to see you ; may I admit them? Umar said; Yes; So they were admitted and they came in; greeted him; and sat down. After a while Yarfa came again and said; May I admit Ali and Abbas? Umar said; yes. So; they were admitted and they came in and greeted him and sat down. Then Abbas said; O chief of the believers! Judge between me and this i.e. Ali. They had a dispute regarding the property of Bani AlNadir which Allah had given to His Apostle as Fai. The group i.e. Uthman and his companions said; O chief of the believers! Judge between them and relieve both of them front each other. Umar said; Be patient! I beseech you by Allah by Whose Permission the Heaven and the Earth exist; do you know that Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Our i.e. prophets property will not be inherited; and whatever we leave; is Sadaqa to be used for charity ; and Allah Messenger ﷺ meant himself by saying we ? The group said; He said so. Umar then turned to Ali and Abbas and said; I beseech you by Allah; do you know that Allah Messenger ﷺ said so? They replied; He said so. Umar then said; So; I will talk to you about this matter. Allah bestowed on His Apostle with a special favor of something of this Fai booty which he gave to nobody else. Umar then recited the Holy Verses: What Allah bestowed as Fai Booty on his Apostle Muhammad from them -- for this you made no expedition with either cavalry or camelry: But Allah gives power to His Apostles over whomever He will And Allah is able to do all things. 9:6 Umar added So this property was especially given to Allah Messenger ﷺ ; but; by Allah; neither did he take possession of it and leave your; nor did he favor himself with it to your exclusion; but he gave it to all of you and distributed it amongst you till this property remained out of it. Then Allah took Abu Bakr unto Him and I became Abu Bakr successor; and I kept that property in my possession for the first two years of my Caliphate; managing it in the same way as Allah Messenger ﷺ used to do and as Abu Bakr used to do; and Allah knows that I have been true; pious; rightly guided; and a follower of what is right. Now you both i.e. Ah and Abbas came to talk to me; bearing the same claim and presenting the same case; you; Abbas; came to me asking for your share from your nephew property; and this man; i.e. Ali; came to me asking for his wife share from her father property. I told you both that Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Our prophets properties are not to be inherited; but what we leave is Sadaqa to be used for charity. When I thought it right that I should hand over this property to you; I said to you; I am ready to hand over this property to you if you wish; on the condition that you would take Allah Pledge and Convention that you would manage it in the same way as Allah Messenger ﷺ used to; and as Abu Bakr used to do; and as I have done since I was in charge of it. So; both of you said to me ; Hand it over to us; and on that condition I handed it over to you. So; I ask you by Allah; did I hand it over to them on this condition? The group aid; Yes. Then Umar faced Ali and Abbas saying; I ask you by Allah; did I hand it over to you on this condition? They said; Yes. He said; Do you want now to give a different decision? By Allah; by Whose Leave both the Heaven and the Earth exist; I will never give any decision other than that I have already given. Dont oppress the Muslims and ward off their curse invocations against you for the invocation of the oppressed is responded to by Allah ; and allow the shepherd having a few camels and those having a few sheep to graze their animals ; and take care not to allow the livestock of Abdulrahman Bin Auf and the livestock of Uthman Bin Affan; for if their livestock should perish; then they have their farms and gardens; while those who own a few camels and those who own a few sheep; if their livestock should perish; would bring their dependents to me and appeal for help saying; O chief of the believers! So; you have the option of restoring your properties or your captives; for I have delayed distributing them. The narrator added; Allah Messenger ﷺ c had been waiting for them for more than ten days on his return from Taif. When they realized that Allah Apostle would return to them only one of two things; they said; We choose our captives. So; Allah Apostle got up in the gathering of the Muslims; praised Allah as He deserved; and said; Then after! These brethren of yours have come to you with repentance and I see it proper to return their captives to them. So; whoever amongst you likes to do that as a favor; then he can do it; and whoever of you wants to stick to his share till we pay him from the very first booty which Allah will give us then he can do so. The people replied; We agree to give up our shares willingly as a favor for Allah Apostle. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; We dont know who amongst you has agreed and who hasnt. Go back and your chiefs may tell us your opinion. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-5018 | Narrated Abu Said: Some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ went on a journey till they reached some of the Arab tribes at night. They asked the latter to treat them as their guests but they refused. The chief of that tribe was then bitten by a snake or stung by a scorpion and they tried their best to cure him but in vain. Some of them said to the others ; Nothing has benefited him; will you go to the people who resided here at night; it may be that some of them might possess something as treatment ; They went to the group of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ and said; Our chief has been bitten by a snake or stung by a scorpion and we have tried everything but he has not benefited. Have you got anything useful ? One of them replied; Yes; by Allah! I can recite a Ruqya; but as you have refused to accept us as your guests; I will not recite the Ruqya for you unless you fix for us some wages for it. They agrees to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them then went and recited Surat AlFatiha : All the praises are for the Lord of the Worlds and puffed over the chief who became all right as if he was released from a chain; and got up and started walking; showing no signs of sickness. They paid them what they agreed to pay. Some of them i.e. the companions then suggested to divide their earnings among themselves; but the one who performed the recitation said; Do not divide them till we go to the Prophet ﷺ and narrate the whole story to him; and wait for his order. So; they went to Allah Messenger ﷺ and narrated the story. Allah Messenger ﷺ asked; How did you come to know that Surat AlFatiha was recited as Ruqya? Then he added; You have done the right thing. Divide what you have earned and assign a share for me as well. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6114 | Narrated Ziyad binIlaqa: I heard Jarir Bin Abdullah Praising Allah. On the day when AlMughira Bin Shuba died; he Jarir got up on the pulpit and thanked and praised Allah and said; Be afraid of Allah alone Who has none along with Him to be worshipped. You should be calm and quiet till the new chief comes to you and he will come to you soon. Ask Allah forgiveness for your late chief because he himself loved to forgive others. Jarir added; Amma badu now then ; I went to the Prophet and said; I give my pledge of allegiance to you for Islam. The Prophet ﷺ conditioned my pledge for me to be sincere and true to every Muslim so I gave my pledge to him for this. By the Lord of this Masjid! I am sincere and true to you Muslims. A person amongst us stood up and went with her. We had no idea that he had been a good incantator but he practiced incantation with the help of Surat AlFatiha and the the chief was all right. They gave him a flock of sheep and served us milk. We said to him : Are you a good incantator. Thereupon he said: I did not do it but by the help of Surat AlFatiha. He said: Do not drive these goats until we go to Allah Messenger ﷺ and find out whether it is permissible to accept this reward of incantation. So we came to Allah Apostle ﷺ and made a mention of that to him; whereupon he said: How did you come to know that this Surat AlFatiha could be used as an incantation? SahihMuslim-017-001-24166 | Anas Bin Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Medina and stayed in the upper part of Medina for fourteen nights with a tribe called Banu Amr b Auf. He then sent for the chiefs of Banu AlNajir; and they came with swords around their inecks. He the narrator said: I perceive as if I am seeing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on his ride with Abu Bakr behind him and the chiefs of Banu AlNajjar around him till he alighted in the courtyard of Abu Ayoub. He the narrator said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said prayer when the time came for prayer; and he prayed in the fold of goats and sheep. He then ordered Masjids to be built and sent for the chiefs of Banu AlNajjar; and they came to him. He the Holy Prophet said to them: O Banu AlNajjar; sell these lands of yours to me. They said: No; by Allah. we would not demand their price; but reward from the Lord. Anas said: There in these lands were trees and graves of the polytheists; and ruins. The Messenger of Allah may peace he upon him ordered that the trees should be cut; and the graves should be dug out; and the ruins should be levelled. She rebuked me; so I said to her: Let me go to the Prophet ﷺ so that I may perform Maghrib prayer with him; and ask him to seek forgiveness for you and I. So I came to the Prophet ﷺ ; and I prayed Maghrib with him; then he prayed until he prayed AlIsha. Then he turned; and I followed him; and he heard my voice; and said: Who is this? Hudhaifah? I said: Yes. He said: What is your need; may Allah forgive you and your mother? He said: Indeed; this is an angel that never descended to the earth ever before tonight. SunanAlNasai-017-001-11563 | It was narrated that Anas Bin Malik said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to AlMadinah; he alighted in the upper part of AlMadinah among the tribe called Banu Amr Bin Awuf and he stayed with them for fourteen nights. Then he sent for the chiefs of Banu AlNajjar; and they came with their swords by their sides. It is as if I can see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on his camel with Abu Bakr riding behind him on the same camel and the chiefs of Banu AlNajjar around him; until he dismounted in the courtyard of Abu Ayoub. The Prophet ﷺ used to offer the prayer wherever he was when the time for prayer came; and he would pray even in sheepfolds. Then he ordered that the Masjid be built. He sent for the chiefs of Banu AlNajjar; and when they came; he said: O Banu AlNajjar; name me a price for this grove of yours. They said: By Allah; we will not ask for its price except from Allah. Anas said: In that grove there were graves of idolators; ruins and date-palm trees. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that the graves of the idolators be dug up; the ruins be leveled and the date-palm trees be cut down. The trunks of the trees were arranged so as to form the walls facing the Qiblah. The stone pillars were built at the sides of its gate. They started to move the stones; reciting some lines of verse; and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with them when they were saying: O Allah! There is no good except the good of the Hereafter. Someone of them said : Our chief has been stung by a scorpion or bitten by a snake. Has any of you something which gives relief to our chief? A man of the people said : Yes; I swear by Allah. I shall apply charm ; but we asked you for hospitality and you denied it to us. I shall not apply charm until you give me some payment. So they promised to give some sheep to him. He came to him and recited Surat AlFatihah over him and spat till he was cured; and ha seemed as if he were set free from a bond. So they gave him the payment that was agreed between them. They said : Apportion them. The man who applied charm said : Do not do it until we approach the Apostle of allah ﷺ said: From where did you learn that it was a charm ? you have done right. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-28663 | Narrated Abu Said AlKhudri : Some of the Companions of Prophet ﷺ went on a journey. They encamped with a clan of the Arabs and sought hospitality from them; but they refused to provide them with any hospitality. The chief of the clan was stung by a scorpion or bitten by a snake. They gave him all sorts of treatment; but nothing gave him relied. One of them said: Would that you had gone to those people who encamped with you ; some of them might have something which could give you relief to your companion. So they went and one of them said: Our chief has been stung by a scorpion or bitten by a snake. We administered all sorts of medicine but nothing gave him relief. Has any of you anything; i.e. charm; which gives healing to our companion. One of those people said: I shall apply charm; we sought hospitality from you; but you refused to entertain us. I am not going to apply charm until you give me some wages. So they offered them a number of sheep. He then came to and recited Faithat AlKitab and spat until he was cured as if he were set free from a bond. Thereafter they made payment of the wages as agreed by them. They said: Apportion the wages. The man who applied the charm said: Do not do until we come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and consult him. So they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ next morning and mentioned it to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: From where did you learn that it was a charm ? You have done right. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-29205 | Narrated Ghalib AlQattan: Ghalib quoted a man who stated on the authority of his father that his grandfather reported: They lived at one of the springs. When Islam reached them; the master of the spring offered his people one hundred camels if they embraced Islam. So they embraced Islam; and he distributed the camels among them. But it occurred to him that he should take the camels back from them. He sent his son to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him: Go to the Prophet ﷺ and tell him: My father extends his greetings to you. He asked his people to give them one hundred camels if they embraced Islam; and they embraced Islam. He divided the camels among them. But it occurred to him then that he should withdraw his camels from them. Is he more entitled to them or we? If he says: Yes or no; then tell him: My father is an old man; and he is the chief of the people living at the water. He has requested you to make me chief after him. He came to him and said: My father has extended his greetings to you. He replied: On you and you father be peace. He said: My father asked his people to give them one hundred camels if they embraced Islam. So they embraced Islam; and their belief in Islam is good. Then it occurred to him that he should take his camels back from them. Is he more entitled to them or are they? He said: If he likes to give them the camels; he may give them; and if he likes to take them back; he is more entitled to them than his people. If they embraced Islam; then for them is their Islam. If they do not embrace Islam; they will be fought against in the cause of Islam. He said: My father is an old man; he is the chief of the people living at the spring. He has asked you to appoint me chief after him.
