So he admitted them and they entered; greeted; and sat down. After a short while Yarfa came again and said to Umar Shall I admit Ali and Abbas? Umar said; Yes. The group; Uthman and his companions Sad; O Chief of the Believers! Judge between them and relieve one from the other. Umar said. Wait! I beseech you by Allah; by Whose permission both the Heaven and the Earth stand fast ! Do you know that Allah Messenger ﷺ said. We Apostles do not bequeath anything to our heirs; but whatever we leave is to be given in charity. And by that Allah Messenger ﷺ s meant himself? The group said; He did say so. Umar then turned towards All and Abbas and said. I beseech you both by Allah; do you know that Allah Messenger ﷺ said that? They said; Yes Umar said; Now; let me talk to you about this matter. Allah favored His Apostle with something of this property war booty which He did not give to anybody else. And Allah said:- And what Allah has bestowed on His Apostle as Fai Booty from them for which you made no expedition with either cavalry or camelry... Allah is Able to do all things. 59.6 So this property was especially granted to Allah Messenger ﷺ. But by Allah he neither withheld it from you; nor did he keep it for himself and deprive you of it; but he gave it all to you and distributed it among you till only this remained out of it. And out of this property Allah Messenger ﷺ used to provide his family with their yearly needs; and whatever remained; he would spend where Allah Property the revenues of Zakat used to be spent. Allah Messenger ﷺ kept on acting like this throughout his lifetime. Now I beseech you by Allah; do you know that? They said; Yes. Then Umar said to Ali and Abbas; I beseech you by Allah; do you both know that? They said; Yes. Umar added; When Allah had taken His Apostle unto Him; Abu Bakr said; I am the successor of Allah Messenger ﷺ. So he took charge of that property and did with it the same what Allah Messenger ﷺ used to do; and both of you knew all about it then. Then Umar turned towards Ali and Abbas and said; You both claim that Abu Bakr was so-and-so! But Allah knows that he was honest; sincere; pious and right in that matter. Then Allah caused Abu Bakr to die; and I said; I am the successor of Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr. So I kept this property in my possession for the first two years of my rule; and I used to do the same with it as Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr used to do. Later both of you Ali and Abbas came to me with the same claim and the same problem. O Abbas! You came to me demanding your share from the inheritance of the son of your brother; and he Ali came to me demanding his wives share from the inheritance of her father. So I said to you; If you wish I will hand over this property to you; on condition that you both promise me before Allah that you will manage it in the same way as Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr did; and as I have done since the beginning of my rule; otherwise you should not speak to me about it. So you both said; Hand over this property to us on this condition. And on this condition I handed it over to you. I beseech you by Allah; did I hand it over to them on that condition? The group said; Yes. Umar then faced Ali and Abbas and said; I beseech you both by Allah; did I hand it over to you both on that condition? They both said; Yes. Umar added; Do you want me now to give a decision other than that? By Him with Whose permission order both the Heaven and the Earth stand fast; I will never give any decision other than that till the Hour is established! He turned him away. On the following day; he Maiz again came to him and said: Allah Messenger; I have committed adultery. Allah Messenger ﷺ turned him away for the second time; and sent him to his people saying: Do you know if there is anything wrong with his mind. They denied of any such thing in him and said: We do not know him but as a wise good man among us; so far as we can judge. He Maiz came for the third time; and he the Holy Prophet sent him as he had done before. He asked about him and they informed him that there was nothing wrong with him or with his mind. When it was the fourth time; a ditch was dug for him and he the Holy Prophet pronounced judg- ment about him and he wis stoned. He the narrator said: There came to him the Holy Prophet a woman from Ghamid and said: Allah Messenger; I have committed adultery; so purify me. He the Holy Prophet turned her away. On the following day she said: Allah Messenger; Why do you turn me away? Perhaps; you turn me away as you turned away Maiz. By Allah; I have become pregnant. He said: Well; if you insist upon it; then go away until you give birth to the child. When she was delivered she came with the child wrapped in a rag and said: Here is the child whom I have given birth to. He said: Go away and suckle him until you wean him. When she had weaned him; she came to him the Holy Prophet with the child who was holding a piece of bread in his hand. She said: Allah Apostle; here is he as I have weaned him and he eats food. He the Holy Prophet entrusted the child to one of the Muslims and then pronounced punishment. And she was put in a ditch up to her chest and he commanded people and they stoned her. Khalid b Walid came forward with a stone which he flung at her head and there spurted blood on the face of Khalid and so he abused her. Allah Apostle ﷺ heard his Khalids curse that he had huried upon her. Thereupon he the Holy Prophet said: Khalid; be gentle. By Him in Whose Hand is my life; she has made such a repentance that even if a wrongful tax-collector were to repent; he would have been forgiven. SahihMuslim-017-001-18031Abu Qatada reported: We accompanied the Messenger of Allah my ﷺ on an expedition in the year of the Battle of Hunain. When we encountered the enemy; some of the Muslims turned back in fear. I saw that a man from the polytheists overpowered one of the Muslims. I turned round and attacked him from behind giving a blow between his neck and shoulder. He turned towards me and grappled with me in such a way that I began to see death staring me in the face. Then death overtook him and left me alone. I joined Umar Bin AlKhattab who was saying: What has happened to the people that they are retreating ? I said: It is the Decree of Allah. Then the people returned. The battle ended in a victory for the Muslims and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down to distribute the spoils of war. He said: One who has killed an enemy and can bring evidence to prove it will get his belongings. So I stood up and said: Who will give evidence for me? Then I sat down. Then he the Holy Prophet said like this. I stood up again and said: Who will bear witness for me? He the Holy Prophet made the same observation the third time; and I stood up once again. Now the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What has happened to you; O Abu Qatada? Then I related the whole story; to him. At this; one of the people said: He has told the truth. Messenger of Allah 1 The belongings of the enemy killed by him are with me. Persuade him to forgo his right in my favour. Objecting to this proposal Abu Bakr said: BY Allah; this will not happen. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ will not like to deprive one of the lions from among the lions of Allah who fight in the cause of Allah and His Messenger and give thee his share of the booty. So the Messenger of Allah may peace he upon him said: He Abu Bakr has told the truth; and so give the belongings to him Abu Qatada. So he gave them to me. I sold the armour which was a part of my share of the booty and bought with the sale proceeds a garden in the street of Banu Salama. This was the first property I acquired after embracing Islam. In a version of the hadith narrated by Laith; the words uttered by Abu Bakr are: No; never! He will not give it to a fox from the Quraish leaving Aasi de a lion from the lions of Allah among.... And the hadith is closed with the words: The first property I acquired. The Chapter on Almaghazi And Killing The Enemies And Pagans in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 13 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18083This tradition has been narrated on the authority of Salama who said: We fought by the side of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Hunain. When we encountered the enemy; I advanced and ascended a hillock. A man from the enemy side turned towards me and I shot him with an arrow. He ducked and hid himself from me. I could not understand what he did; but all of a sudden I saw that a group of people appeared from the other hillock. They and the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ met in combat; but the Companions of the Prophet turned back and I too turned back defeated. I had two mantles; one of which I was wrapping round the waist covering the lower part of my body and the other I was putting around my shoulders. My waist-wrapper got loose and I held the two mantles together. In this downcast condition I passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who was riding on his white mule. He said: The son of Akwa finds himself to be utterly perplexed. Wher. the Companions gathered round him from all sides. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ got down from his mule. picked up a handful of dust from the ground; threw it into their enemy faces and said: May these faces be deformed 1 There was no one among the enemy whose eyes were not filled with the dust from this handful. So they turned back fleeing. and Allah the Exalted and Glorious defeated them; and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed their booty among the Muslims. The Chapter on Directions Turning in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 28 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18105It has been reported on the authority of Anas Bin Malik that when the enemy got the upper hand on the day of the Battle of Uhud; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was left with only seven men from the ansar and two men from the Quraish. When the enemy advanced towards him and overwhelmed him; he said: Whoso turns them away from us will attain Paradise or will be my Companion in Paradise. A man from the Ansar came forward and fought the enemy until he was killed. The enemy advanced and overwhelmed him again and he repeated the words: Whoso turns them away; from us will attain Paradise or will be my Companion in Paradise. A man from the Arsar came forward and fought until he was killed. This state continued until the seven Ansar were killed one after the other. Now; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his two Companions: We have not done justice to our Companions. The Chapter on Enemies And Groups And Killing in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 37 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18610It is narrated on the authority of Ibn Shamasa Mahri that he said: We went to Amr Bin AlAs and he was about to die. He wept for a long time and turned his face towards the wall. His son said: Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ not give you tidings of this? Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ not give you tidings of this? He the narrator said: He turned his face towards the audience and said: The best thing which we can count upon is the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Verily I have passed through three phases. The first one in which I found myself averse to none else more than I was averse to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and there was no other desire stronger in me than the one that I should overpower him and kill him. Had I died in this state; I would have been definitely one of the denizens of Fire. When Allah instilled the love of Islam in my heart; I came to the Apostle ﷺ and said: Stretch out your right hand so that may pledge my allegiance to you. He stretched out his right hand; I withdrew my hand; He the Holy Prophet said: What has happened to you; O Amr? replied: I intend to lay down some condition. He asked: What condition do you intend to put forward? I said: should be granted pardon. He the Holy Prophet observed: Are you not aware of the fact that Islam wipes out all the previous misdeeds ? Verily migration wipes out all the previous misdeeds ; and verily the pilgrimage wipes out all the previous misdeeds. And then no one as or dear to me than the Messenger of Allah and none was more sublime in my eyes than he; Never could I; pluck courage to catch a full glimpse of his face due to its splendour. So if I am asked to describe his features; I cannot do that for I have not eyed him fully. Had I died in this state had every reason to hope that I would have bee among the dwellers of Paradise. Then we were responsible for certain things in the light of which I am unable to know what is in store for me. When I die; let neither female mourner nor fire accompany me. When you bury me; fill my grave well with earth; then stand around it for the time within which a camel is slaughtered and its meat is distributed so that I may enjoy your intimacy and in your company ascertain what answer I can give to the messengers angels of Allah. The Chapter on Love And Emotions Supplications in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 54 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18763Yazid AlFaqir said: This view of the Khawarij i.e. those who commit major sins and would be eternally doomed to Hell had obsessed me; and we set out in a large group intending to perform the Hajj and then going to the people for the propagation of the views of the Khawarij. He the narrator said: We happened to past by Medina and found there Jabir Bin Abdullah sitting near a column narrating to the people the ahadith of the Prophet ﷺ. When he mentioned the inhabitants of Hell; I said: O companion of the Messenger of Allah what is this that you narrate; whereas Allah says: Verily whomsoever Thou shall commit to the Fire; Thou indeed humiliateth him AlQuran; iii. 192 ; and All those who endeavored to get out of that would be thrown back into it AlQuran; xxxi i. 20 ? So what is it that you say? He said: Have you read the Quran? I said: Yes. He said: Have you heard about the exalted position of Muhammad ﷺ ; i.e. to which Allah would raise; him? I said: Yes. He said: Verily the position of Muhammad ﷺ is that of great glory and that is by which Allah would bring out whomsoever He would wish to bring out. He then described the Path the Bridge and the passing of the people over it; and said: I am afraid I may not have remembered other things but this much is still in my memory that people would come out of the Hell after having gone into it; and he said: They would come out of it as if they were the wood of the ebony tree. He the narrator said: They would enter a river; one or the rivers of Paradise; and would bathe in it; and then come out as if they were white like paper. We then turned back and said: Woe be upon you! How can this old man tell a lie against the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? We turned back from the views of the Khawarij ; and by God every one of us abandoned this band of Khawarij except one man. A similar statement has been made by Abu Nuaim. The Chapter on The Punishment Of Hell Fire in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 84 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18899Iyad Bin Him-ar reported that Allah Messenger ﷺ ; while delivering a sermon one day; said: Behold; my Lord commanded me that I should teach you which you do not know and which He has taught me today. He has instructed thus : The property which I have conferred upon them is lawful for them. I have created My servants as one having a natural inclination to the worship of Allah but it is Satan who turns them away from the right religion and he makes unlawful what has been declared lawful for them and he commands them to ascribe partnership with Re; although he has no justification for that. And verily; Allah looked towards the people of the world and He showed hatred for the Arabs and the non-Arabs; but with the exception of some remnants from the People of the Book. And He further said: I have sent thee the Holy Prophet in order to put you to test and put those to test through you. And I sent the Book to you which cannot be washed away by water; so that you may recite it while in the state of wakefulness or sleep. Verily; Allah commanded me to burn kill the Quraish. I said: My Lord; they would break my head like the tearing of bread; and Allah said: You turn them out as they turned you out; you fight against them and We shall help you in this; you should spend and you would be conferred upon. You send an army and I would send an army five times greater than that. Fight against those who disobey you along with those who obey you. The inmates of Paradise are three: One who wields authority and is just and fair; one who Is truthful and has been endowed with power to do good deeds. And the person who is merciful and kind hearted towards his relatives and to every pious Muslim; and one who does not stretch his hand in spite of having a large family to support. And He said: The inmates of Hell are five: the weak who lack power to avoid evil ; the carefree who pursue everything irrespective of the fact that it is good or evil and who do not have any care for their family or for their wealth. And those dishonest whose greed cannot be concealed even in the case of minor things. And the third. who betray you. morning and evening; in regard to your family and your property. He also made a mention of the miser and the liar and those who are in the habit of abusing people and using obscene and foul language. Abu Bakr said: By Allah; I also experience the same. So I and Abu Bakr went to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said to him: Allah Messenger; Hanzala has turned to be a hypocrite. Thereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: What has happened to you? I said: Allah Messenger; when we are in your company; we are reminded of Hell-Fire and Paradise as if we are seeing them with our own eyes; but whenever we go away from you and attend to our wives; children and business; much of these things go out of our minds. Aisha said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; when the rim of the sun appeared; sat down on the pulpit; and having pronounced the greatness of Allah and expressed His praise; he said: You have complained of drought in your homes; and of the delay in receiving rain at the beginning of its season. Allah has ordered you to supplicate Him has and promised that He will answer your prayer. Then he said: Praise be to Allah; the Lord of the Universe; the Compassionate; the Merciful; the Master of the Day of Judgment. There is no god but Allah Who does what He wishes. O Allah; Thou art Allah; there is no deity but Thou; the Rich; while we are the poor. Send down the rain upon us and make what Thou sendest down a strength and satisfaction for a time. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-27367Narrated Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Gabriel ﷺ came to me and said: I came to you last night and was prevented from entering simply because there were images at the door; for there was a decorated curtain with images on it in the house; and there was a dog in the house. So order the head of the image which is in the house to be cut off so that it resembles the form of a tree; order the curtain to be cut up and made into two cushions spread out on which people may tread; and order the dog to be turned out. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then did so. The dog belonged to AlHasan or AlHusayn and was under their couch. So he ordered it to be turned out.Abu Dawud said: AlNadd means a thing on which clothes are placed like a couch. The Chapter on Mother And Ansar in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Images in Sunan Abu Dawoud
SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-27462Narrated Ubadah Ibn AlSamit: We came to Jabir Ibn Abdullah who was sitting in his Masjid. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us in this Masjid and he had a twig of date-palm of the kind of Ibn Tab. He looked and saw phlegm on the wall towards qiblah. He turned to it and scraped it with the twig. He then said: Who of you likes that Allah turns His face from him? He further said: When any of you stands for praying; Allah faces him. So he should not spit before him; nor on his right side. He should spit on his left side under his left foot. If he is in a hurry i.e. forced to spit immediately ; he should do with his cloth in this manner. He then placed the cloth on his mouth and rubbed it off. He then said: Bring perfume. A young man of the tribe stood and hurried to his house and returned with perfume in his palm. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it and put it at the end of the twig. He then stained the mark of phlegm with it. Jabir said: This is the reason you use perfume in your Masjids. The Chapter on Body Parts And Facing The Qiblah in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Spitting In A Masjid Is Disliked in Sunan Abu Dawoud
SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-27484Narrated Muadh Ibn Jabal: Prayer passed through three stages and fasting also passed through three stages. The narrator Nasr reported the rest of the tradition completely. The narrator; Ibn AlMuthanna; narrated the story of saying prayer facing in the direction of Jerusalem. He said: The third stage is that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Medina and prayed; i.e. facing Jerusalem; for thirteen months. Then Allah; the Exalted; revealed the verse: We have seen thee turning thy face to Heaven for guidance; O Muhammad. And now verily We shall make thee turn in prayer toward a qiblah which is dear to thee. So turn thy face toward the Inviolable Place of Worship; and ye O Muslims ; wherever ye may be; turn your face when ye pray toward it ii.144. And Allah; the Reverend and the Majestic; turned them towards the Kabah. He the narrator completed his tradition. The narrator; Nasr; mentioned the name of the person who had the dream; saying: And Abdullah Ibn Zayd; a man from the Ansar; came. The same version reads: And he turned his face towards the qiblah and said: Allah is most great; Allah is most great; I testify that there is no god but Allah; I testify that there is no god but Allah; I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; come to prayer he pronounced it twice ; come to salvation he pronounced it twice ; Allah is Most Great; Allah is most great. He then paused for a while; and then got up and pronounced in a similar way; except that after the phrase Come to salvation he added. The time for prayer has come; the time for prayer has come. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Teach it to Bilal; then pronounce the adhan call to prayer with the same words. As regards fasting; he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast for three days every month; and would fast on the tenth of Muharram. Then Allah; the Exalted; revealed the verse:.......Fasting was prescribed for those before you; that ye may ward off evil......and for those who can afford it there is a ransom: the feeding of a man in need ii.183-84. If someone wished to keep the fast; he would keep the fast; if someone wished to abandon the fast; he would feed an indigent every day; it would do for him. But this was changed. Allah; the Exalted; revealed: The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran.......... let him fast the same number of other days ii.185. Hence the fast was prescribed for the one who was present in the month of Ramadan and the traveller was required to atone for them ; feeding the indigent was prescribed for the old man and woman who were unable to fast. The narrator; Nasr; further reported : The companion Sirmah; came after finishing his day work......and he narrated the rest of the tradition. The Chapter on Adhan And Iqama And Fasting in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on How The Adhan Is Performed in Sunan Abu Dawoud

SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-28990Narrated Amir AlRam: We were in our country when flags and banners were raised. I said: What is this? The the people said: This is the banner of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So I came to him. He was sitting under a tree. A sheet of cloth was spread for him and he was sitting on it. His Companions were gathered around him. I sat with them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned illness and said: When a believer is afflicted by illness and Allah cures him of it; it serves as an atonement for his previous sins and a warning to him for the future. But when a hypocrite becomes ill and is then cured; he is like a camel which has been tethered and then let loose by its owners; but does not know why they tethered it and why they let it loose. A man from among those around him asked: Messenger of Allah; what are illnesses? I swear by Allah; I never fell ill. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Get up and leave us. You do not belong to our number. When we were with him; a man came to him. He had a sheet of cloth and something in his hand. He turned his attention to him and said: Messenger of Allah; when I saw you; I turned towards you. I saw a group of trees and heard the sound of fledglings. I took them and put them in my garment. Their mother then came and began to hover round my head. I showed them to her; and she fell on them. I wrapped them with my garment. They are now with me. He said: Put them away from you. So I put them away; but their mother stayed with them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his companions: Are you surprised at the affection of the mother for her young? They said: Yes; Messenger of Allah. He said: I swear by Him Who has sent me with the Truth; Allah is more affectionate to His servants than a mother to her young ones.
