SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1155Narrated Mousa Bin Abi Aisha: Saeed Bin Jubair reported from Ibn Abbas regarding the explanation of the Verse: Do not move your tongue concerning the Quran to make haste therewith. He said; The Prophet ﷺ used to undergo great difficulty in receiving the Divine Inspiration and used to move his lips. Ibn Abbas said to Said ; I move them my lips as Allah Messenger ﷺ used to move his lips. And Saeed said to me ; I move my lips as I saw Ibn Abbas moving his lips; and then he moved his lips. So Allah revealed:- O Muhammad! Do not move your tongue concerning the Quran to make haste therewith. It is for Us to collect it and give you O Muhammad the ability to recite it. i.e.; to collect it in your chest and then you recite it. 75.16-17 But when We have recited it; to you O Muhammad through Gabriel then follow you its recital. 75.18 This means; You should listen to it and keep quiet and then it is upon Us to make you recite it. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1174Narrated Ibn Umar: A Jew and Jewess were brought to the Prophet ﷺ on a charge of committing an illegal sexual intercourse. The Prophet ﷺ asked the Jews; What do you usually do with them? They said; We blacken their faces and disgrace them. He said; Bring here the Torah and recite it; if you are truthful. They fetched it and came and asked a one-eyed man to recite. He went on reciting till he reached a portion on which he put his hand. The Prophet ﷺ said; Lift up your hand! He lifted his hand up and behold; there appeared the verse of AlRajm stoning of the adulterers to death. Then he said; O Muhammad! They should be stoned to death but we conceal this Divine Law among ourselves. Then the Prophet ﷺ ordered that the two sinners be stoned to death and; and they were stoned to death; and I saw the man protecting the woman from the stones. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1181Narrated Umar Bin AlKhattab: I heard Hisham Bin Hakim reciting Surat AlFurqan during the lifetime of Allah Messenger ﷺ ; I listened to his recitation and noticed that he was reciting in a way that Allah Messenger ﷺ had not taught me. I was about to jump over him while He was still in prayer; but I waited patiently and when he finished his prayer; I put my sheet round his neck and pulled him and said; Who has taught you this Surat which I have heard you reciting? Hisham said; Allah Messenger ﷺ taught it to me. I said; You are telling a lie; for he taught it to me in a way different from the way you have recited it! Then I started leading dragged him to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said to the Prophet ; I have heard this man reciting Surat AlFurqan in a way that you have not taught me. The Prophet ﷺ said: O Umar release him! Recite; O Hisham. Hisham recited in the way I heard him reciting. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; It was revealed like this. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Recite; O Umar! I recited in the way he had taught me; whereupon he said; It was revealed like this; and added; The Quran has been revealed to be recited in seven different ways; so recite of it whichever is easy for you. SahihMuslim-017-001-17390Abdullah Bin Umar reported that a Jew and a Jewess were brought to Allah Messenger ﷺ who had committed adultery. Allah Messenger ﷺ came to the Jews and said: What do you find in Torah for one who commits adultery? They said: We darken their faces and make them ride on the donkey with their faces turned to the opposite direction and their backs touching each other ; and then they are taken round the city. He said: Bring Torah if you are truthful. They brought it and recited it until when they came to the verse pertaining to stoning; the person who was reading placed his hand on the verse pertaining to stoning; and read only that which was between his hands and what was subsequent to that. Abdullah Bin Salim who was at that time with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Command him the reciter to lift his hand. He lifted it and there was; underneath that; the verse pertaining to stoning. Allah Messenger ﷺ pronounced judgment about both of them and they were stoned. SahihMuslim-017-001-17425Adi Bin Hatim reported that he asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunting with the help of an arrow having a stub end. He said: If it strikes the game with its point; then eat; but if it strikes flatly and it dies; that is Waqidh beaten into death ; do not eat that. I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunting with the help of dogs; whereupon he said. When you send your dog for hunting reciting the name of Allah; then eat the game ; but if some part of it is eaten by the dogs; then do not eat that; for it your dog has caught that the-game for itself. I again said: If I find along with my dog another dog; and do not know which of the dogs has caught the game. then what should I do ? SahihMuslim-017-001-17428Adi Bin Hatim reported: I asked Allah Messenger ﷺ about hunting the game with the help of Mirad; whereupon he said: If it strikes the game with its point; then eat it; but if it strikes flat; that is the game is beaten into death ; then do not eat that Adi further said: I asked him about hunting with the help of a dog; whereupon he said: If that the dog catches it the game for you and does not eat out of that; then you eat the game for Dhakat slaughtering of that is its being caught by it by the dog. SahihMuslim-017-001-17434Abu Thalaba AlKhushani reported: I came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said: Allah Messenger; we are in the land of the People of the Book; so we eat in their utensils; and live in a hunting region. where I hunt with; the help of my bow; and hunt with my trained dog; or with my dog which is not trained. So inform me what is lawful Halal for us out of that. He the Holy Prophet said: Regarding what you have mentioned of the fact that you live in the land belonging to the People of the Book and so you eat in their utensils; but if you can get utensils other than theirs; then dont eat in them; but if you do not find any; then wash them and eat in them. SahihMuslim-017-001-17897It has been reported on the authority of Anas Bin Malik that some people came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said to him: Send with us some men who may teach us the Quran and the Sunnah. Accordingjy; he sent seventy men from the Ansar. They were called the Reciters and among them was my maternal uncle. Haram. They used to recite the Quran; discuss and ponder over its meaning at night. In the day they brought water and poured it in pitchers in the Masjid; collected wood and sold it; and with the sale proceeds bought food for the people of the Suffa and the needy. The Prophet ﷺ sent the Reciters with these people; but these treacherous people fell upon them and killed thern before they reached their destination While dying ; they said: O Allah; convey from us the news to our Prophet that we have met Thee in a way that we are pleased with Thee and Thou art pleased with us. The narrator said : A man attacked Haram maternal uncle of Anas from behind and smote him with a spear which pierced him. While dying ; Haram said: By the Lord of the Kaba; I have met with success. SahihMuslim-017-001-17903It has been narrated on the authority of Sulaiman Bin Yasar who said: People dispersed from around Abu Huraira; and Natil; who was from the Syrians. said to him: O Shaikh; relate to us a tradition you have heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: Yes. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The first of men whose case will be decided on the Day of Judgment will be a man who died as a martyr. He shall be brought before the Judgment Seat. Allah will make him recount His blessings i. e. the blessings which He had bestowed upon him and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his life. Then will Allah say: What did you do to requite these blessings ? He will say: I fought for Thee until I died as a martyr. Allah will say: You have told a lie. You fought that you might be called a brave warrior. And you were called so. Then orders will be passed against him and he will be dragged with his face downward and cast into Hell. Then will be brought forward a man who acquired knowledge and imparted it to others and recited the Quran. He will be brought And Allah will make him recount His blessings and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his lifetime. Then will Allah ask: What did you do to requite these blessings ? He will say: I acquired knowledge and disseminated it and recited the Quran seeking Thy pleasure. Allah will say: You have told a lie. You acquired knowledge so that you might be called a scholar; and you recited the Quran so that it might be said: He is a Qari and such has been said. Then orders will be passed against him and he shall be dragged with his face downward and cast into the Fire. Then will be brought a man whom Allah had made abundantly rich and had granted every kind of wealth. He will be brought and Allah will make him recount His blessings and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his lifetime. Allah will then ask: What have you done to requite these blessings ? He will say: I spent money in every cause in which Thou wished that it should be spent. Allah will say: You are lying. You did so that it might be said about You : He is a generous fellow and so it was said. SahihMuslim-017-001-18043It is narrated on the authority of Urwa Bin AlZubair who narrated from Aisha that she informed him that Fatima; daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; sent someone to Abu Bakr to demand from him her share of the legacy left by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from what Allah had bestowed upon him at Medina and Fadak and what was left from one-filth of the income annually received from Khaibar. Abu Bakr said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: We prophets do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is to be given in charity. The household of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ will live on the income from these properties; but; by Allah; I will not change the charity of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the condition in which it was in his own time. I will do the same with it as the Messenger of Allah may peace be upun him himself used to do. So Abu Bakr refused to hand over anything from it to Fatima who got angry with Abu Bakr for this reason. She forsook him and did not talk to him until the end of her life. She lived for six months after the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When she died; her husband. Ali Bin Abu Talib; buried her at night. He did not inform Abu Bakr about her death and offered the funeral prayer over her himself. During the lifetime of Fatima; All received special regard from the people. After she had died; he felt estrangement in the faces of the people towards him. So he sought to make peace with Abu Bakr and offer his allegiance to him. He had not yet owed allegiance to him as Caliph during these months. He sent a person to Abu Bakr requesting him to visit him unaccompanied by anyone disapproving the presence of Umar. Umar said to Abu Bakr: BY Allah; you will not visit them alone. Abu Bakr said: What will they do to me? By Allah; I will visit them. And he did pay them a visit alone. All recited Tashahhud as it is done in the beginning of a religious sermon ; then said: We recognise your moral excellence and what Allah has bestowed upon you. We do not envy the favour i. e. the Catiphate which Allah nas conferred upon you; but you have done it assumed the position of Caliph alone without consulting us ; and we thought we had a right to be consulted on account of our kinship with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He continued to talk to Abu Bakr in this vein until the latter eyes welled up with tears. Then Abd Bakr spoke and said: By Allah; in Whose Hand is my life; the kinship of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is dearer to me than the kinship of my own people. As regards the dispute that has arisen between you and me about these properties; I have not deviated from the right course and I have not given up doing about them what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do. So Ali said to Abu Bakr: This aftetnoon is fixed for swearing allegiance to you. So when Abu Bakr had finished his Zuhr prayer; he ascended the pulpit and recited Tashahhud; and described the status of Ali; his delay in swearing allegiance and the excuse which lie had offered to him for this delay. After this he asked for God forgiveness. Then Ali Bin Abu Talib recited the Tashahhud. extolled the merits of Abu Bakr and said that his action was nott prompted by any jealousy of Abu Bakr on his part or his refusal to accept the high position which Allah had conferred upon him; adding: But we were of the opinion that we should have a share in the government; but the matter had been decided without taking us into confidence; and this displeased us. Hence the delay in offering allegiance. The Muslims were pleased with this explanation and they said: You have done the right thing. SahihMuslim-017-001-18132It has been narrated on the authority of Salama Bin AlAkwa who said: We marched upon Khaibar with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. We journeyed during the night. One of the people said to my brother Amir Bin AlAkwa: Wont you recite to us some of your verses? Amir was a poet. So he began to chant his verses to urge the camels; reciting: O God; if Thou hadst not guided us We would have neither been guided rightly nor practised charity; Nor offered prayers. We wish to lay down our lives for Thee; so forgive Thou our lapses; And keep us steadfast when we encounter our enemies. Bestow upon us peace and tranquillity. Behold; when with a cry they called upon us to help. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Who is this driver of the camels ? They said: It is Amir. He said: God will show mercy to him. A man said: Martyrdom is reserved for him. Messenger of Allah; would that you had allowed us to benefit ourselves from his life. The narrator says : We reached Khaibar and besieged them; and we continued the siege until extreme hunger afflicted us. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Behold; God has conquered it for you. When it was evening of the day on which the city was conquered. the Muslims lit many fires. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What are these fires? And what are they cooking? They said: They are cooking meat. He asked. Which meat? They said: That of domestic asses. He said: Let them throw it away and break the pots in which it is being cooked. A man said: Or should they throw it away and wash the pots? He said: They may do that. When the people drew themselves up in battle array Amir caught hold of his sword that was rather short He drove a Jew before him to strike him with it. As he struck him ; his sword recoiled and struck his own knee; and Amir died of the wound. When the people returned after the conquest of Kliaibar and he Salama had caught hold of my hand; and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw that I was silent and dejected ; he said: What the matter with thee? I said to him: My father and my mother be thy ransom; people presume that Amir sacrifice has been in vain. He asked: Who has said that? I said: So and so and Usaid Bin Hudair AlAnsari. He said: Who has said that has lied. For him for Amir there is a double reward. He indicated this by putting two of his fingers together. He was a devotee of God and a warrior fighting for His cause. SahihMuslim-017-001-18133It has been reported on the authority of Salama Bin Akwa who said: On the day of the Battle of Khaibar my brother fought a fierce fight by the side of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. His sword rebounded and killed him. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah may peace be upon hill talked about his death and doubted whether it was martyrdom. They said : He is a man killed by his own weapon; and expressed doubt about his affair. Salama said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from Khaibar; I said: Messenger of Allah; permit me that I may recite to you some rajaz verses. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted him. Umar Bin AlKhattab said: I know what you will recite. I recited: By God; if God had guided us not; We would hive neither been guided aright nor practised charity; Nor offered prayers. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What you have said is true; I continued : And descend on us peace and tranquillity And keep us steadfast if we encounter with our enemies And the polytheists have rebelled against us. When I finished my rajaz; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Who composed these verses? I said: They were composed by my brother. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: May God show mercy to him! I said: By God; some people are reluctant to invoke God mercy on him because they say he is a man who died by his own sword. Hearing this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He died as God devotee and warrior. Ibn Shihab has said: I asked one of the sons of Salama Bin Akwa about the death of Amir. He related to me a similar tradition except that he said: When I said some people were reluctant invoke God blessings on him; the Messenger of Allah may peace be; upon him said: They lied. Amir died as God devotee and warrior in the cause of Allah. It was said to their kings: We have never heard of any slander worse than that of those believers who slander us and recite: And whosoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed; such are the disbelievers. In these Verses; they are criticizing us for our deeds when they recite them. So he called them together and gave them the choice between being put to death; or giving up reading the Tawrah and Injil; except for what had been altered. They said: Why do you want us to change? Leave us alone. Some of them said: Build us a tower and let us go up there; and give us something to lift up our food and drink so we do not have to mix with you. Others said: Let us go and wander throughout the land; and we will drink as the wild animals drink; and if you capture us in your land; you may kill us. Others said: Build houses for us in the wilderness; and we will dig wells and grow vegetables; and we will not mix with you or pass by you; for there is no one of the tribes among whom we do not have close relatives. So they did that; and Allah revealed the words: But the monasticism which they invented for themselves; We did not prescribe for them; but they sought it only to please Allah therewith; but that they did not observe it with the right observance. Then others said: We will worship as so-and-so worshipped; and we will wander as so-and-so wandered; and we will adopt houses in the wilderness as so-and-so did. But they were still following their Shirk with no knowledge of the faith of those whom they claimed to be following. When Allah sent the Prophet SAWSYMOBOL; and they were only a few of them left; a man came down from his cell; and a wanderer came from his travels; and a monk came from his monastery; and they believed in him. One of them came out with her hand bleeding and claimed that her companion had injured her; but the other one denied it. I wrote to Ibn Abbas concerning that. He wrote; saying that the Messenger of Allah SAWSYMOBOL ruled that the person against whom the claim was made should swear an oath. For if people were to be given what they claimed was theirs; then people would make claims against the wealth and blood of others. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-24686Narrated Saad Bin Hisham: I divorced my wife. I then came to Medina to sell my land that was there so that I could buy arms and fight in battle. I met a group of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. They said: Six persons of us intended to do so i.e. divorce their wives and purchase weapons ; but the Prophet ﷺ prohibited them. He said: For you in the Messenger of Allah there is an excellent model. I then came to Ibn Abbas and asked him about the witr observed by the Prophet ﷺ. He said: I point to you a person who is most familiar with the witr observed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Go to Aishah. While going to her I asked Hakim Bin Aflah to accompany me. He refused; but I adjured him. He; therefore; went along with me. We sought permission to enter upon Aishah. She said: Who is this ? He said: Hakim Bin Aflah. She asked: Who is with you ? He replied: Saad Bin Hisham. She said: Hisham son of Amir who was killed in the Battle of Uhud. I said: Yes. She said: What a good man Amir was! I said: Mother of faithful; tell me about the character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She asked: Do you not recite the Quran ? The character of Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the Quran. I asked: Tell me about his vigil and prayer at night. She replied: Do you not recite: O thou folded in garments 73:1. I said: Why not ?When the opening of this Surah was revealed; the Companions stood praying most of the night until their fett swelled; and the concluding verses were not revealed for twelve months from heaven. At last the concluding verses were revealed and the prayer at night became voluntary after it was obligatory. I said: Tell me about the witr of the Prophet ﷺ. She replied: He used to pray eight rakahs; sitting only during the eighth of them. Then he would stand up and pray another rakahs. He would sit only after the eighth and the ninth rakahs. He would utter salutation only after the ninth rakah. He would then pray two rakahs sitting and that made eleven rakahs; O my son. But when he grew old and became fleshy he observed a witr of seven; sitting only in sixth and seventh rakahs; and would utter salutation only after the seventh rakah. He would then pray two rakahs sitting; and that made nine rakahs; O my son. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not pray through a whole night; or recite the whole Quran in a night or fast a complete month except in Ramadan. When he offered prayer; he would do that regularly. When he was overtaken by sleep at night; he would pray twelve rakahs.The narrator said: I came to Ibn Abbas and narrated all this to him. By Allah; this is really a tradition. Has I been on speaking terms with her; I would have come to her and heard it from her mouth. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-24690Narrated Aisha; Ummul Muminin: Zurarah Ibn Awuf a said that Aisha was asked about the midnight prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: He used to offer his night prayer in congregation and then return to his family in his house and pray four rakahs. Then he would go to his bed and sleep; but the water for his ablution was placed covered near his head and his tooth-stick was also kept there until Allah awakened him at night. He then used the tooth-stick; performed ablution perfectly then came to the place of prayer and would pray eight rakahs; in which he would recite Surah AlFatihah; and a surah from the Quran as Allah willed. He would not sit during any of them but sit after the eighth rakah; and would not utter the salutation; but recite the Quran during the ninth rakah. Then he would sit and supplicate as long as Allah willed; and beg Him and devote his attention to Him; He would utter the salutation once in such a loud voice that the inmates of the house were almost awakened by his loud salutation. He would then recite Surah AlFatihah while sitting; bow while sitting; and then recite the Quran during the second rakah; and would bow and prostrate while sitting. He would supplicate Allah as long as He willed; then utter the salutation and turn away. This amount of prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued till he put a weight. During that period he retrenched two rakahs from nine and began to pray six and seven rakahs standing and two rakahs sitting. He used to visit and have a talk with us every day after the night prayer. The version of Abu Saeed says: He remained standing for such a long time talking to us that he put his weight sometimes on one leg and sometimes on the other due to his long stay. He mostly told us how his people; the Quraysh; behaved with him. He would say: We were not equal; we were weak and degraded at Mecca according to Mousaddad version. When we came over to Medina the fighting began between us; sometimes we overcome them and at other times they overcome us. One night he came late and did not come at the time he used to come. We asked him: You came late tonight? He said: I could not recite the fixed part of the Quran that I used to recite every day. I disliked to come till I had completed it. Malik said; The position with us is that there are eleven prescribed prostrations in the Quran; none of which are in the mufassal. Malik said; No-one should recite any of the pieces of Quran that require a prostration after the prayers of subh and asr. This is because the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; forbade prayer after subh until after the sun had risen; and after asr until the sun had set; and prostration is part of the prayer. So no-one should recite any piece of Quran requiring a prostration during these two periods of time. Malik was asked whether a menstruating woman could prostrate if she heard some-one reciting a passage of Quran requiring a prostration; and he said; Neither a man nor a woman should prostrate unless they are ritually pure. Malik was asked whether a man in the company of a woman who was reciting a passage of Quran requiring a prostration should prostrate with her; and he said; He does not have to prostrate with her. The prostration is only obligatory for people who are with a man who is leading them. He recites the piece and they prostrate with him. What is your opinion? Umar said to a man by his side; Come; so that you and I may make an assessment. They decided on a female goat for him; and the man turned away saying; This amir Almuminin cannot even make an assessment in the case of a gazelle until he calls a man to decide with him. Umar overheard the man words and called him and asked him; Do you recite Surat AlMaida? and he said; No. He said; Then do you recognize this man who has taken the decision with me? and he said; No. He said; If you had told me that you did recite Surat AlMaida; I would have dealt you a blow. Nor is hidden from thy Lord (so much as) the weight of an atom on the earth or in heaven. And not the least and not the greatest of these things but are recorded in a clear record.

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1181Narrated Umar Bin AlKhattab: I heard Hisham Bin Hakim reciting Surat AlFurqan during the lifetime of Allah Messenger ﷺ ; I listened to his recitation and noticed that he was reciting in a way that Allah Messenger ﷺ had not taught me. I was about to jump over him while He was still in prayer; but I waited patiently and when he finished his prayer; I put my sheet round his neck and pulled him and said; Who has taught you this Surat which I have heard you reciting? Hisham said; Allah Messenger ﷺ taught it to me. I said; You are telling a lie; for he taught it to me in a way different from the way you have recited it! Then I started leading dragged him to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said to the Prophet ; I have heard this man reciting Surat AlFurqan in a way that you have not taught me. The Prophet ﷺ said: O Umar release him! Recite; O Hisham. Hisham recited in the way I heard him reciting. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; It was revealed like this. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Recite; O Umar! I recited in the way he had taught me; whereupon he said; It was revealed like this; and added; The Quran has been revealed to be recited in seven different ways; so recite of it whichever is easy for you. Allah Messenger ﷺ came to the Jews and said: What do you find in Torah for one who commits adultery? They said: We darken their faces and make them ride on the donkey with their faces turned to the opposite direction and their backs touching each other ; and then they are taken round the city. He said: Bring Torah if you are truthful. They brought it and recited it until when they came to the verse pertaining to stoning; the person who was reading placed his hand on the verse pertaining to stoning; and read only that which was between his hands and what was subsequent to that. Abdullah Bin Salim who was at that time with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Command him the reciter to lift his hand. He lifted it and there was; underneath that; the verse pertaining to stoning. Allah Messenger ﷺ pronounced judgment about both of them and they were stoned. I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunting with the help of dogs; whereupon he said. When you send your dog for hunting reciting the name of Allah; then eat the game ; but if some part of it is eaten by the dogs; then do not eat that; for it your dog has caught that the-game for itself. I again said: If I find along with my dog another dog; and do not know which of the dogs has caught the game. then what should I do ? So inform me what is lawful Halal for us out of that. He the Holy Prophet said: Regarding what you have mentioned of the fact that you live in the land belonging to the People of the Book and so you eat in their utensils; but if you can get utensils other than theirs; then dont eat in them; but if you do not find any; then wash them and eat in them. SahihMuslim-017-001-17897It has been reported on the authority of Anas Bin Malik that some people came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said to him: Send with us some men who may teach us the Quran and the Sunnah. Accordingjy; he sent seventy men from the Ansar. They were called the Reciters and among them was my maternal uncle. Haram. They used to recite the Quran; discuss and ponder over its meaning at night. In the day they brought water and poured it in pitchers in the Masjid; collected wood and sold it; and with the sale proceeds bought food for the people of the Suffa and the needy. The Prophet ﷺ sent the Reciters with these people; but these treacherous people fell upon them and killed thern before they reached their destination While dying ; they said: O Allah; convey from us the news to our Prophet that we have met Thee in a way that we are pleased with Thee and Thou art pleased with us. The narrator said : A man attacked Haram maternal uncle of Anas from behind and smote him with a spear which pierced him. While dying ; Haram said: By the Lord of the Kaba; I have met with success. He said: Yes. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The first of men whose case will be decided on the Day of Judgment will be a man who died as a martyr. He shall be brought before the Judgment Seat. Allah will make him recount His blessings i. e. the blessings which He had bestowed upon him and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his life. Then will Allah say: What did you do to requite these blessings ? He will say: I fought for Thee until I died as a martyr. Allah will say: You have told a lie. You fought that you might be called a brave warrior. And you were called so. Then orders will be passed against him and he will be dragged with his face downward and cast into Hell. Then will be brought forward a man who acquired knowledge and imparted it to others and recited the Quran. He will be brought And Allah will make him recount His blessings and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his lifetime. Then will Allah ask: What did you do to requite these blessings ? He will say: I acquired knowledge and disseminated it and recited the Quran seeking Thy pleasure. Allah will say: You have told a lie. You acquired knowledge so that you might be called a scholar; and you recited the Quran so that it might be said: He is a Qari and such has been said. Then orders will be passed against him and he shall be dragged with his face downward and cast into the Fire. Then will be brought a man whom Allah had made abundantly rich and had granted every kind of wealth. He will be brought and Allah will make him recount His blessings and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his lifetime. Allah will then ask: What have you done to requite these blessings ? He will say: I spent money in every cause in which Thou wished that it should be spent. Allah will say: You are lying. You did so that it might be said about You : He is a generous fellow and so it was said. SahihMuslim-017-001-18043It is narrated on the authority of Urwa Bin AlZubair who narrated from Aisha that she informed him that Fatima; daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; sent someone to Abu Bakr to demand from him her share of the legacy left by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from what Allah had bestowed upon him at Medina and Fadak and what was left from one-filth of the income annually received from Khaibar. Abu Bakr said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: We prophets do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is to be given in charity. The household of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ will live on the income from these properties; but; by Allah; I will not change the charity of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the condition in which it was in his own time. I will do the same with it as the Messenger of Allah may peace be upun him himself used to do. So Abu Bakr refused to hand over anything from it to Fatima who got angry with Abu Bakr for this reason. She forsook him and did not talk to him until the end of her life. She lived for six months after the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When she died; her husband. Ali Bin Abu Talib; buried her at night. He did not inform Abu Bakr about her death and offered the funeral prayer over her himself. During the lifetime of Fatima; All received special regard from the people. After she had died; he felt estrangement in the faces of the people towards him. So he sought to make peace with Abu Bakr and offer his allegiance to him. He had not yet owed allegiance to him as Caliph during these months. He sent a person to Abu Bakr requesting him to visit him unaccompanied by anyone disapproving the presence of Umar. Umar said to Abu Bakr: BY Allah; you will not visit them alone. Abu Bakr said: What will they do to me? By Allah; I will visit them. And he did pay them a visit alone. All recited Tashahhud as it is done in the beginning of a religious sermon ; then said: We recognise your moral excellence and what Allah has bestowed upon you. We do not envy the favour i. e. the Catiphate which Allah nas conferred upon you; but you have done it assumed the position of Caliph alone without consulting us ; and we thought we had a right to be consulted on account of our kinship with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He continued to talk to Abu Bakr in this vein until the latter eyes welled up with tears. Then Abd Bakr spoke and said: By Allah; in Whose Hand is my life; the kinship of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is dearer to me than the kinship of my own people. As regards the dispute that has arisen between you and me about these properties; I have not deviated from the right course and I have not given up doing about them what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do. So Ali said to Abu Bakr: This aftetnoon is fixed for swearing allegiance to you. So when Abu Bakr had finished his Zuhr prayer; he ascended the pulpit and recited Tashahhud; and described the status of Ali; his delay in swearing allegiance and the excuse which lie had offered to him for this delay. After this he asked for God forgiveness. Then Ali Bin Abu Talib recited the Tashahhud. extolled the merits of Abu Bakr and said that his action was nott prompted by any jealousy of Abu Bakr on his part or his refusal to accept the high position which Allah had conferred upon him; adding: But we were of the opinion that we should have a share in the government; but the matter had been decided without taking us into confidence; and this displeased us. Hence the delay in offering allegiance. The Muslims were pleased with this explanation and they said: You have done the right thing. SahihMuslim-017-001-18132It has been narrated on the authority of Salama Bin AlAkwa who said: We marched upon Khaibar with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. We journeyed during the night. One of the people said to my brother Amir Bin AlAkwa: Wont you recite to us some of your verses? Amir was a poet. So he began to chant his verses to urge the camels; reciting: O God; if Thou hadst not guided us We would have neither been guided rightly nor practised charity; Nor offered prayers. We wish to lay down our lives for Thee; so forgive Thou our lapses; And keep us steadfast when we encounter our enemies. Bestow upon us peace and tranquillity. Behold; when with a cry they called upon us to help. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Who is this driver of the camels ? They said: It is Amir. He said: God will show mercy to him. A man said: Martyrdom is reserved for him. Messenger of Allah; would that you had allowed us to benefit ourselves from his life. The narrator says : We reached Khaibar and besieged them; and we continued the siege until extreme hunger afflicted us. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Behold; God has conquered it for you. When it was evening of the day on which the city was conquered. the Muslims lit many fires. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What are these fires? And what are they cooking? They said: They are cooking meat. He asked. Which meat? They said: That of domestic asses. He said: Let them throw it away and break the pots in which it is being cooked. A man said: Or should they throw it away and wash the pots? He said: They may do that. When the people drew themselves up in battle array Amir caught hold of his sword that was rather short He drove a Jew before him to strike him with it. As he struck him ; his sword recoiled and struck his own knee; and Amir died of the wound. When the people returned after the conquest of Kliaibar and he Salama had caught hold of my hand; and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw that I was silent and dejected ; he said: What the matter with thee? I said to him: My father and my mother be thy ransom; people presume that Amir sacrifice has been in vain. He asked: Who has said that? I said: So and so and Usaid Bin Hudair AlAnsari. He said: Who has said that has lied. For him for Amir there is a double reward. He indicated this by putting two of his fingers together. He was a devotee of God and a warrior fighting for His cause. SahihMuslim-017-001-18133It has been reported on the authority of Salama Bin Akwa who said: On the day of the Battle of Khaibar my brother fought a fierce fight by the side of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. His sword rebounded and killed him. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah may peace be upon hill talked about his death and doubted whether it was martyrdom. They said : He is a man killed by his own weapon; and expressed doubt about his affair. Salama said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from Khaibar; I said: Messenger of Allah; permit me that I may recite to you some rajaz verses. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted him. Umar Bin AlKhattab said: I know what you will recite. I recited: By God; if God had guided us not; We would hive neither been guided aright nor practised charity; Nor offered prayers. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What you have said is true; I continued : And descend on us peace and tranquillity And keep us steadfast if we encounter with our enemies And the polytheists have rebelled against us. When I finished my rajaz; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Who composed these verses? I said: They were composed by my brother. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: May God show mercy to him! I said: By God; some people are reluctant to invoke God mercy on him because they say he is a man who died by his own sword. Hearing this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He died as God devotee and warrior. Ibn Shihab has said: I asked one of the sons of Salama Bin Akwa about the death of Amir. He related to me a similar tradition except that he said: When I said some people were reluctant invoke God blessings on him; the Messenger of Allah may peace be; upon him said: They lied. Amir died as God devotee and warrior in the cause of Allah. In these Verses; they are criticizing us for our deeds when they recite them. So he called them together and gave them the choice between being put to death; or giving up reading the Tawrah and Injil; except for what had been altered. They said: Why do you want us to change? Leave us alone. Some of them said: Build us a tower and let us go up there; and give us something to lift up our food and drink so we do not have to mix with you. Others said: Let us go and wander throughout the land; and we will drink as the wild animals drink; and if you capture us in your land; you may kill us. Others said: Build houses for us in the wilderness; and we will dig wells and grow vegetables; and we will not mix with you or pass by you; for there is no one of the tribes among whom we do not have close relatives. So they did that; and Allah revealed the words: But the monasticism which they invented for themselves; We did not prescribe for them; but they sought it only to please Allah therewith; but that they did not observe it with the right observance. Then others said: We will worship as so-and-so worshipped; and we will wander as so-and-so wandered; and we will adopt houses in the wilderness as so-and-so did. SunanAlNasai-017-001-12445It was narrated from Nafi Bin Umar; that Ibn Abi Mulaikah said: There were two female neighbors who used to do leatherwork with an awl in AlTaif. One of them came out with her hand bleeding and claimed that her companion had injured her; but the other one denied it. I wrote to Ibn Abbas concerning that. He wrote; saying that the Messenger of Allah SAWSYMOBOL ruled that the person against whom the claim was made should swear an oath. For if people were to be given what they claimed was theirs; then people would make claims against the wealth and blood of others. So he called her and recited this Verse to her: Verily; those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah Covenant and their oaths; they shall have no portion in the Hereafter... until the end of the Verse. He called her and recited that to her; and she confessed to that. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-24686Narrated Saad Bin Hisham: I divorced my wife. I then came to Medina to sell my land that was there so that I could buy arms and fight in battle. I met a group of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. They said: Six persons of us intended to do so i.e. divorce their wives and purchase weapons ; but the Prophet ﷺ prohibited them. He said: For you in the Messenger of Allah there is an excellent model. I then came to Ibn Abbas and asked him about the witr observed by the Prophet ﷺ. He said: I point to you a person who is most familiar with the witr observed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Go to Aishah. While going to her I asked Hakim Bin Aflah to accompany me. He refused; but I adjured him. He; therefore; went along with me. We sought permission to enter upon Aishah. She said: Who is this ? He said: Hakim Bin Aflah. She asked: Who is with you ? He replied: Saad Bin Hisham. She said: Hisham son of Amir who was killed in the Battle of Uhud. I said: Yes. She said: What a good man Amir was! I said: Mother of faithful; tell me about the character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She asked: Do you not recite the Quran ? The character of Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the Quran. I asked: Tell me about his vigil and prayer at night. She replied: Do you not recite: O thou folded in garments 73:1. I said: Why not ?When the opening of this Surah was revealed; the Companions stood praying most of the night until their fett swelled; and the concluding verses were not revealed for twelve months from heaven. At last the concluding verses were revealed and the prayer at night became voluntary after it was obligatory. I said: Tell me about the witr of the Prophet ﷺ. She replied: He used to pray eight rakahs; sitting only during the eighth of them. Then he would stand up and pray another rakahs. He would sit only after the eighth and the ninth rakahs. He would utter salutation only after the ninth rakah. He would then pray two rakahs sitting and that made eleven rakahs; O my son. But when he grew old and became fleshy he observed a witr of seven; sitting only in sixth and seventh rakahs; and would utter salutation only after the seventh rakah. He would then pray two rakahs sitting; and that made nine rakahs; O my son. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not pray through a whole night; or recite the whole Quran in a night or fast a complete month except in Ramadan. When he offered prayer; he would do that regularly. When he was overtaken by sleep at night; he would pray twelve rakahs.The narrator said: I came to Ibn Abbas and narrated all this to him. By Allah; this is really a tradition. Has I been on speaking terms with her; I would have come to her and heard it from her mouth. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-24690Narrated Aisha; Ummul Muminin: Zurarah Ibn Awuf a said that Aisha was asked about the midnight prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: He used to offer his night prayer in congregation and then return to his family in his house and pray four rakahs. Then he would go to his bed and sleep; but the water for his ablution was placed covered near his head and his tooth-stick was also kept there until Allah awakened him at night. He then used the tooth-stick; performed ablution perfectly then came to the place of prayer and would pray eight rakahs; in which he would recite Surah AlFatihah; and a surah from the Quran as Allah willed. He would not sit during any of them but sit after the eighth rakah; and would not utter the salutation; but recite the Quran during the ninth rakah. Then he would sit and supplicate as long as Allah willed; and beg Him and devote his attention to Him; He would utter the salutation once in such a loud voice that the inmates of the house were almost awakened by his loud salutation. He would then recite Surah AlFatihah while sitting; bow while sitting; and then recite the Quran during the second rakah; and would bow and prostrate while sitting. He would supplicate Allah as long as He willed; then utter the salutation and turn away. This amount of prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued till he put a weight. During that period he retrenched two rakahs from nine and began to pray six and seven rakahs standing and two rakahs sitting. The version of Abu Saeed says: He remained standing for such a long time talking to us that he put his weight sometimes on one leg and sometimes on the other due to his long stay. He mostly told us how his people; the Quraysh; behaved with him. He would say: We were not equal; we were weak and degraded at Mecca according to Mousaddad version. When we came over to Medina the fighting began between us; sometimes we overcome them and at other times they overcome us. One night he came late and did not come at the time he used to come. We asked him: You came late tonight? He said: I could not recite the fixed part of the Quran that I used to recite every day. I disliked to come till I had completed it. Aws said: I asked the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ : How do you divide the Quran for daily recitation? I was about to rush up to him but I granted him a respite until he had finished his prayer. Then I grabbed him by his cloak and took him to the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and said; Messenger of Allah; I heard this man reciting Surat AlFurqan differently from the way you recited it to me. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; Let him go. Then he said; Recite; Hisham; and Hisham recited as I had heard him recite. MuwataMalik-017-001-34254Malik said; The imam does not come down and prostrate when he recites a piece of Quran requiring a prostration while he is on the mimbar. Malik said; The position with us is that there are eleven prescribed prostrations in the Quran; none of which are in the mufassal. Malik said; No-one should recite any of the pieces of Quran that require a prostration after the prayers of subh and asr. This is because the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; forbade prayer after subh until after the sun had risen; and after asr until the sun had set; and prostration is part of the prayer. So no-one should recite any piece of Quran requiring a prostration during these two periods of time. Malik was asked whether a menstruating woman could prostrate if she heard some-one reciting a passage of Quran requiring a prostration; and he said; Neither a man nor a woman should prostrate unless they are ritually pure. Malik was asked whether a man in the company of a woman who was reciting a passage of Quran requiring a prostration should prostrate with her; and he said; He does not have to prostrate with her. The prostration is only obligatory for people who are with a man who is leading them. He recites the piece and they prostrate with him. So he gathered them behind Ubay Ibn Kaab Then I went out with him another night and the people were praying behind their Quran reciter. Umar said; How excellent this new way is; but what you miss while you are asleep is better than what you watch in prayer. What is your opinion? Umar said to a man by his side; Come; so that you and I may make an assessment. They decided on a female goat for him; and the man turned away saying; This amir Almuminin cannot even make an assessment in the case of a gazelle until he calls a man to decide with him. Umar overheard the man words and called him and asked him; Do you recite Surat AlMaida? and he said; No. He said; Then do you recognize this man who has taken the decision with me? and he said; No. He said; If you had told me that you did recite Surat AlMaida; I would have dealt you a blow.
