SahihAlBukhari-017-001-227 | Narrated Abdullah Bin Ubaidullah Bin Abi Mulaika: One of the daughters of Uthman died at Mecca. We went to attend her funeral procession. Ibn Umar and Ibn Abbas were also present. I sat in between them or said; I sat beside one of them. Then a man came and sat beside me. Abdullah Bin Umar said to Amr Bin Uthman; Will you not prohibit crying as Allah Messenger ﷺ has said; The dead person is tortured by the crying of his relatives.? Ibn Abbas said; Umar used to say so. Then he added narrating; I accompanied Umar on a journey from Mecca till we reached AlBaida. There he saw some travelers in the shade of a Samura A kind of forest tree. He said to me ; Go and see who those travelers are. So I went and saw that one of them was Suhaib. I told this to Umar who then asked me to call him. So I went back to Suhaib and said to him; Depart and follow the chief of the faithful believers. Later; when Umar was stabbed; Suhaib came in weeping and saying; O my brother; O my friend! on this Umar said to him; O Suhaib! Are you weeping for me while the Prophet ﷺ said; The dead person is punished by some of the weeping of his relatives? Ibn Abbas added; When Umar died I told all this to Aisha and she said; May Allah be merciful to Umar. By Allah; Allah Messenger ﷺ did not say that a believer is punished by the weeping of his relatives. But he said; Allah increases the punishment of a non-believer because of the weeping of his relatives. Aisha further added; The Quran is sufficient for you to clear up this point as Allah has stated: No burdened soul will bear another burden. 35.18. Ibn Abbas then said; Only Allah makes one laugh or cry. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2422 | Narrated Abu Said: A group of the companions of Allah Messenger ﷺ proceeded on a journey till they dismounted near one of the Arab tribes and requested them to entertain them as their guests; but they the tribe people refused to entertain them. Then the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake or stung by a scorpion and he was given all sorts of treatment; but all in vain. Some of them said; Will you go to the group those travelers who have dismounted near you and see if one of them has something useful? They came to them and said; O the group! Our leader has been bitten by a snake or stung by a scorpion and we have treated him with everything but nothing benefited him Has anyone of you anything useful? One of them replied; Yes; by Allah; I know how to treat with a Ruqya. But. by Allah; we wanted you to receive us as your guests but you refused. I will not treat your patient with a Ruqya till you fix for us something as wages. Consequently they agreed to give those travellers a flock of sheep. The man went with them the people of the tribe and started spitting on the bite and reciting Surat AlFatiha till the patient was healed and started walking as if he had not been sick. When the tribe people paid them their wages they had agreed upon; some of them the Prophet companions said; Distribute the sheep. But the one who treated with the Ruqya said; Do not do that till we go to Allah Apostle and mention to him what has happened; and see what he will order us. So they came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and mentioned the story to him and he said; How do you know that Surat AlFatiha is a Ruqya? You have done the right thing. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3279 | Narrated Aslam: Allah Messenger ﷺ was traveling on one of his journeys; and Umar Bin AlKhattab was traveling along with him at night. Umar asked him about something; but Allah Messenger ﷺ did not answer him. He asked again; but he did not answer. He asked for the third time; but he did not answer. On that; Umar said to himself; May your mother lose you! You have asked Allah Messenger ﷺ three times; but he did not answer at all! Umar said; So I made my camel go fast till I was ahead of the people; and I was afraid that something might be revealed about me. After a little while I heard a call maker calling me; I said; I was afraid that some Quranic Verse might be revealed about me. So I went to Allah Apostle and greeted him. He said; Tonight there has been revealed to me a Surah which is dearer to me than that on which the sun shines i.e. the world. Then he recited: Verily! We have given you O Muhammad ; a manifest victory. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3920 | Narrated Imran Bin Hosain: That they were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey. They travelled the whole night; and when dawn approached; they took a rest and sleep overwhelmed them till the sun rose high in the sky. The first to get up was Abu Bakr. Allah Messenger ﷺ s used not to be awakened from his sleep; but he would wake up by himself. Umar woke up and then Abu Bakr sat by the side of the Prophet head and started saying: Allahu-Akbar raising his voice till the Prophet ﷺ woke up; and after traveling for a while he dismounted and led us in the morning prayer. A man amongst the people failed to join us in the prayer. When the Prophet ﷺ had finished the prayer; he asked the man ; O so-and-so! What prevented you from offering the prayer with us? He replied; I am Junub; Alllah Apostle ordered him to perform Tayammam with clean earth. The man then offered the prayer. Allah Messenger ﷺ ordered me and a few others to go ahead of him. We had become very thirsty. While we were on our way looking for water ; we came across a lady riding an animal ; hanging her legs between two water-skins. We asked her; Where can we get water? She replied; Oh ! There is no water. We asked; how far is your house from the water? She replied; A distance of a day and a night travel. We said; Come on to Allah Messenger ﷺ ; She asked; What is Allah Messenger ﷺ ? So we brought her to Allah Messenger ﷺ against her will; and she told him what she had told us before and added that she was the mother of orphans. So the Prophet ﷺ ordered that her two water-skins be brought and he rubbed the mouths of the water-skins. As we were thirsty; we drank till we quenched our thirst and we were forty men. We also filled all our waterskins and other utensils with water; but we did not water the camels. The waterskin was so full that it was almost about to burst. The Prophet ﷺ then said; Bring what foodstuff you have. So some dates and pieces of bread were collected for the lady; and when she went to her people; she said; I have met either the greatest magician or a prophet as the people claim. So Allah guided the people of that village through that lady. Then another man came and complained of robbery by highwaymen. The Prophet said; Adi! Have you been to AlHira? I said; I havent been to it; but I was informed about it. He said; If you should live for a long time; you will certainly see that a lady in a Howdah traveling from AlHira will safely reach Mecca and perform the Tawaf of the Kaba; fearing none but Allah. I said to myself; What will happen to the robbers of the tribe of Tai who have spread evil through out the country? The Prophet ﷺ further said. If you should live long; the treasures of Khosrau will be opened and taken as spoils. I asked; You mean Khosrau; son of Hurmuz? He said; Khosrau; son of Hurmuz; and if you should live long; you will see that one will carry a handful of gold or silver and go out looking for a person to accept it from him; but will find none to accept it from him. And any of you; when meeting Allah; will meet Him without needing an interpreter between him and Allah to interpret for him; and Allah will say to him: Didnt I send a messenger to teach you? He will say: Yes. Allah will say: Didnt I give you wealth and do you favors? He will say: Yes. Then he will look to his right and see nothing but Hell; and look to his left and see nothing but Hell. Adi further said: I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying; Save yourself from the Hell Fire even with half a date to be given in charity and if you do not find a half date; then with a good pleasant word. Adi added: later on I saw a lady in a Howdah traveling from AlHira till she performed the Tawaf of the Kaba; fearing none but Allah. And I was one of those who opened conquered the treasures of Khosrau; son of Hurmuz. SahihMuslim-017-001-18705 | Anas Bin Malik reported on the authority of Malik Bin Sa sa; perhaps a person of his tribe; that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: I was near the House i. e. Kabah in a state between sleep and wakefulness when I heard someone say: He is the third among the two persons. Then he came to me and took me with him. Then a golden basin containing the water of Zamzam was brought to me and my heart was opened up to such and such part. Qatada said: I asked him who was with me i e. the narrator and what he meant by such and such part. He replied: It means that it was opened up to the lower part of his abdomen Then the hadith continues : My heart was extracted and it was washed with the water of Zamzam and then it was restored in its original position; after which it was filled with faith and wisdom. I was then brought a white beast which is called AlBuraq; bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. Its stride was as long as the eye could reach. I was mounted on it; and then we went forth till we reached the lowest heaven. Gabriel asked for the gate to be opened; and it was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel. It was again said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad ﷺ. It was said: Has he been sent for? He Gabriel said: Yes. He the Prophet said: Then the gate was opened for us and it was said : Welcome unto him! His is a blessed arrival. Then we came to Adam ﷺ. And he the narrator narrated the whole account of the hadith. The Holy Prophet observed that he met Jesus in the second heaven; Yahya peace be on both of them in the third heaven; Yousif in the third; Idris in the fourth; Harun in the fifth peace and blessings of Allah be upon them. Then we travelled on till we reached the sixth heaven and came to Moses ﷺ and I greeted him and he said: Welcome unto righteous brother and righteous prophet. And when I passed by him he wept; and a voice was heard saying: What makes thee weep? He said: My Lord; he is a young man whom Thou hast sent after me as a prophet and his followers will enter Paradise in greater numbers than my followers. Then we travelled on till we reached the seventh heaven and I came to Ibrahim. He the narrator narrat- ed in this hadith that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ told that he saw four rivers which flowed from the root of the lote-tree of the farthest limits : two manifest rivers and two hidden rivers. I said: Gabriel! what are these rivers? He replied: The two hidden rivers are the rivers of Paradise; and as regards the two manifest ones; they are the Nile and the Euphrates. Then the Bait AlMamur was raised up to me. I said: O Gabriel! what is this? He replied: It is the Bait AlMamur. Seventy thousand angels enter into it daily and; after they come out; they never return again. Two vessels were then brought to me. The first one contained wine and the second one contained milk; and both of them were placed before me. I chose milk. It was said: You did right. He said: May Allah protect you; as you have protected His Apostle from falling down ; and again said: Do you see that we are hidden from the people? - and again said: Do you see anyone? I said: Here is a rider. I again said: Here Is another rider till we gathered together and we were seven riders. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stepped Aasi de of the highway and placed his head for sleep and said : Guard for us our prayers. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the first to wake up and the rays of the sun were falling on his back. We got up startled He the Holy Prophet said: Ride on So we rode on till the sun had sufficiently risen. He then came down from his camel and called for a jug of water which I had with me. There was a little water in that. He performed ablution with that which was less thorough as compared with his usual ablutions and some water of that had been left. He the Holy Prophet said to Abu Qatida: Keep a watch over your jug of water; it would have a miraculous condition about it. Then Bilal summoned people to prayer and then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed two rakahs and then said the morning prayer as he said every day. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then rode on and we rode along with him and some of us whispered to the others saying: How would there be compensation for omission in our prayers? Upon this he the Messenger of Allah said: Is there not in me my life a model for you? There is no omission in sleeping. The cognizable emission is that one should not say prayer intentionally till the time of the other prayer comes. So he who did like it omitted prayer in sleep or due to other unavoidable circumstances should say prayer when he becomes aware of it and on the next day he should observe it at its prescribed time. He the Holy Prophet said: What do you think the people would have done at this hour ? They would have in the morning found their Apostle missing from amongst them and then Abu Bakr and Umar would have told them that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ must be behind you; he cannot leave you behind him ; but the people said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is ahead of you. So if you had obeyed Abu Bakr and Umar; you would have gone on the right path. So we proceeded on till we came up to the people from whom we had lagged behind and the day had considerably risen and everything became hot; and they the Companions of the Holy Prophet said: Messenger of Allah; we are dying of thirst. Upon this he the Holy Prophet remarked: There is no destruction for you. And again said: Bring that small cup of mine and he then asked for the jug of water to be brought to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to pour water in that small cup and Abu Qatida gave them to drink. And when the people saw that there was a little water in the jug; they fell upon it. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Behave well; the water is enough to satiate all of you. Then they the Companions began to receive their share of water with calmness without showing any anxiety and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to fill the cap ; and I began to serve them till no one was left except me and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He then filled the cup with water and said to me: Drink it. I said: Messenger of Allah; I would not drink till you drink. Upon this he said: The server of the people Is the last among them to drink. So I drank and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ also drank and the people came to the place of water quite happy and satiated. Abdullah Bin Rabah said: I am going to narrate this hadith in the great Masjid; when Imran Bin Hosain said: See; O young man; how will you narrate for I was also one of the riders on that night? I said: So you must be knowing this hadith well. He said: Who are you? I said: I am one of the Ansar. Upon this he said: You narrate; for you know your hadith better. I; therefore; narrated it to the people. SahihMuslim-017-001-24552 | Imran Bin Hosain reported: I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a journey. We travelled the whole of the night; and when it was about to dawn; we got down for rest; and were overpowered by sleep till the sun shone. Abu Bakr was the first to awake amongst us. and we did not awake the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from his sleep allowing him to wake up of his own accord. It was Umar who then woke up. He stood by the side of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and recited takbir in a loud voice till the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up. When he lifted his head; he saw that the sun had arisen; he then said: Proceed on. He travelled along with us till the sun shone brightly. He came down from his camel and led us in the morning prayer. A person; however; remained away from the people and did not say; prayer along with us. After having completed the prayer; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: O; so and so; what prevented you from observing prayer with us? He said: Apostle of Allah! I was not in a state of purity. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him arid lie performed Tayammum with dust and said prayer. He then urged me to go ahead immediately along with other riders to find out water; for we felt very thirsty. We were traveling when we came across a woman who was sitting on a camel with her feet hanging over two leathern water bags. We said to her: How far is water available? She; said: Far; very far; very far. You cannot get water. We again said: How much distance is there between the residence of your family and water? She said: It is a day and night journey. We said to her: You go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: Who is the Messenger of Allah? We somehow or the other managed to bring her to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he asked about her; and she informed him as she had informed us that she was a widow having orphan children. He ordered that her camel should be made to kneal down and he gargled in the opening of her leathern water-bag. The camel was then raised up and we forty thirsty men drank water till we were completely satiated; and we filled up all leathern water-bags and water-skins that we had with us and we washed our companions; but we did not make any camel drink; and the leathern water-bags were about to burst on account of excess of water. He then said: Bring whatever you have with you. So we collected the bits of estable things and dates and packed them up in a bundle; and said to her: Take it away. This is meant for your children; and know that we have not its any way done any loss to your water. W hen she came to her family she said: I have met the greatest magician amongst human beings; or he is an apostle; as he claims to be; and she then narrated what had happened and Allah guided aright those people through that woman. SunanAlTermithi-017-001-9382 | Zirr Bin Hubaish said: I came to Safwan Bin Assal AlMuradi to ask him about wiping over the Khuff; so he said: What has brought you; O Zirr? So I said: The desire for knowledge. So he said: Indeed; the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge; out of pleasure with what he is seeking. So I said: Indeed there is some doubt in my chest concerning wiping over the Khuff after defecation and urination; and you were a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ ; so I came to you to ask you: Have you heard him ﷺ mention anything concerning that? He said: Yes; he ﷺ used to order us; that when we were travelers - or - in travel; to not remove our Khuff for three days and nights except; from sexual impurity; but not from defecation; urination; and sleep. He said: Have you heard him ﷺ mention anything concerning love? He said: Yes. We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey when a Bedouin with a loud voice called upon him saying : O Muhammad! So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ responded to him with a voice similar to him saying : Come. So we said to him: Lower your voice for you are with the Prophet ﷺ ; and you have been prohibited from this. He said: By Allah; I will not lower my voice. The Bedouin said: A man loves a people but he is not with them in terms of deeds ? He ﷺ said: A man is with whomever he loves on the Day Of Judgment. So he did not cease talking with us; until he mentioned a gate in the direction of the west with the width of seventy years journey - or a rider would travel its width - for forty or seventy years. MuwataMalik-017-001-34980 | Malik spoke to me about a man who wrote a kitaba for his slave for gold or silver and stipulated against him in his kitaba a journey; service; sacrifice or similar; which he specified by its name; and then the mukatab was able to pay all his instalments before the end of the term. He said; If he pays all his instalments and he is set free and his inviolability as a free man is complete; but he still has this condition to fulfil; the condition is examined; and whatever involves his person in it; like service or a journey etc.; is removed from him and his master has nothing in it. Whatever there is of sacrifice; clothing; or anything that he must pay; that is in the position of dinars and dirhams; and is valued and he pays it along with his instalments; and he is not free until he has paid that along with his instalments. Malik said; The generally agreed-on way of doing things among us about which there is no dispute; is that a mukatab is in the same position as a slave whom his master will free after a service of ten years. If the master who will free him dies before ten years; what remains of his service goes to his heirs and his wala goes to the one who contracted to free him and to his male children or paternal relations. Malik spoke about a man who stipulated against his mukatab that he could not travel; marry; or leave his land without his permission; and that if he did so without his permission it was in his power to cancel the kitaba. He said; If the mukatab does any of these things it is not in the man power to cancel the kitaba. Let the master put that before the Sultan. The mukatab; however; should not marry; travel; or leave the land of his master without his permission; whether or not he stipulates that. That is because the man may write a kitaba for his slave for 100 dinars and the slave may have 1000 dinars or more than that. He goes off and marries a woman and pays her bride-price which sweeps away his money and then he cannot pay. He reverts to his master as a slave who has no property. Or else he may travel and his instalments fall due while he is away. He cannot do that and kitaba is not to be based on that. That is in the hand of his master. Malik said; There is no harm in the two parties in a qirad helping each other by way of a favour when it is acceptable to them both. Malik said; There is no harm in the investor of the capital buying some of the goods from the agent in the qirad if that is acceptable and without conditions. Malik spoke about an investor making a qirad loan to a man and his slave; to be used by both. He said; That is permitted; and there is no harm in it because the profit is property for his slave; and the profit is not for the master until he takes it from him. MuwataMalik-017-001-35007 | Yahya said that Malik spoke about an investor who made a qirad loan to a man. He said; When the investment is large; the travelling expenses of the agent are taken from it. He can use it to eat and clothe himself in an acceptable fashion according to the size of the investment. If it saves him trouble; he can take a wage from some of the capital; if it is large; and he cannot support himself. There are certain jobs which an agent or his like are not responsible for; amongst them are collecting debts; transporting the goods; loading up and so forth. He can hire from the capital someone to do that for him. The agent should not spend from the capital nor clothe himself from it while he resides with his family. It is only permitted for him to have expenses when he travels for the investment. The expenses are taken from the capital. If he is only trading with the property in the city in which he resides; he has no expenses from the capital and no clothing. Malik spoke about an investor who paid qirad money to a man; and the agent went out with it and with his own capital. MuwataMalik-017-001-35523 | Yahya said that he heard Malik say; What I have heard from the people of knowledge is that if a man succumbs to an illness which makes fasting very difficult for him and exhausts him and wears him out; he can break his fast. This is the same as with a sick man in the prayer; who finds standing to be too difficult and exhausting; and Allah knows better than the slave that it is an excuse for him and that it really cannot be described. If the man is in such a condition he prays sitting; and the deen of Allah is ease. Allah has permitted a traveller to break the fast when travelling; and he has more strength for fasting than a sick man. Malik said; If the imam gathers people for prayer while he is travelling in a town where the jumua prayer is not obligatory; then there is no jumua for him; nor for the people of the town; nor for anyone else who joins them for the prayer in congregation; and the people of the town and anyone else who is not travelling should complete the prayer. MuwataMalik-017-001-36214 | Yahya related to me from Malik thatYahya Ibn Said used to say; Even if someone manages to pray before the time of the prayer has passed; the time that has passed him by is more important; or better; than his family and wealth. Yahya said that Malik said; If the time for a prayer comes and a traveller delays a prayer through neglect or forgetfulness until he reaches his family; he should do that prayer in full if he arrives within the time. But if he arrives when the time has past; he should do the travelling prayer. That way he only repays what he owes. Malik said; This is what I have found the people and men of knowledge doing in our community.
