SahihAlBukhari-017-001-025 | Narrated Sahl Bin Saad AlSaidi: The news about the differences amongst the people of Bani Amr Bin Auf reached Allah Messenger ﷺ and so he went to them along with some of his companions to effect a reconciliation between them. Allah Messenger ﷺ was delayed there; and the time of the prayer was due. Bilal went to Abu Bakr and said to him; Allah Messenger ﷺ has been delayed there and the time of prayer is due. So will you lead the people in prayer? Abu Bakr said; Yes; if you wish. Bilal pronounced the Iqama and Abu Bakr; went forward and said Takbir for the people. In the meantime Allah Messenger ﷺ came crossing the rows of the praying people and stood in the first row and the people started clapping. Abu Bakr; would never glance sideways in his prayer but when the people clapped much he looked back and ﷺ Allah Messenger ﷺ. Allah Messenger ﷺ beckoned him to carry on the prayer. Abu Bakr raised his hands and thanked Allah; and retreated till he reached the first row. Allah Messenger ﷺ went forward and led the people in the prayer. When he completed the prayer he faced the people and said; O people! Why did you start clapping when something unusual happened to you in the prayer? Clapping is only for women. So whoever amongst you comes across something in the prayer should say; Subhan-Allah for there is none who will not turn round on hearing him saying Subhan-Allah. O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from leading the people in the prayer when I beckoned you to do so? Abu Bakr replied; How dare the son of Abu Quhafa lead the prayer in the presence of Allah Messenger ﷺ ? | The Chapter on Prayers Rows And Clapping The Hands in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Beckoning during the Salat by a person in Salat in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-089 | Narrated Mahmud Bin AlRabi AlAnsari: that he remembered Allah Messenger ﷺ and he also remembered a mouthful of water which he had thrown on his face; after taking it from a well that was in their house. Mahmud said that he had heard Itban Bin Malik; who was present with Allah Messenger ﷺ in the battle of Badr saying; I used to lead my people at Bani Salim in the prayer and there was a valley between me and those people. Whenever it rained it used to be difficult for me to cross it to go to their Masjid. So I went to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; I have weak eyesight and the valley between me and my people flows during the rainy season and it becomes difficult for me to cross it; I wish you would come to my house and pray at a place so that I could take that place as a praying place. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; I will do so. So Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr came to my house in the next morning after the sun had risen high. Allah Messenger ﷺ asked my permission to let him in and I admitted him. He did not sit before saying; Where do you want us to offer the prayer in your house? I pointed to the place where I wanted him to pray. So Allah Messenger ﷺ stood up for the prayer and started the prayer with Takbir and we aligned in rows behind him; and he offered two rakat; and finished them with Taslim; and we also performed Taslim with him. I detained him for a meal called KhaZirr which I had prepared for him.- KhaZirr is a special type of dish prepared from barley flour and meat soup - When the neighbors got the news that Allah Messenger ﷺ was in my house; they poured it till there were a great number of men in the house. One of them said; What is wrong with Malik; for I do not see him? One of them replied; He is a hypocrite and does not love Allah and His Apostle. On that Allah Apostle said; Dont say this. Havent you seen that he said; None has the right to be worshipped but Allah for Allah sake only. The man replied; Allah and His Apostle know better; but by Allah; we never saw him but helping and talking with the hypocrites. Allah Messenger ﷺ replied; No doubt; whoever says. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; and by that he wants the pleasures of Allah; then Allah will save him from Hell. Mahmud added; I told the above narration to some people; one of whom was Abu Ayoub ; the companion of Allah Messenger ﷺ in the battle in which he Abu Ayoub died and Yazid Bin Muawiya was their leader in Roman Territory. Abu Ayoub denounced the narration and said; I doubt that Allah Messenger ﷺ ever said what you have said. I felt that too much; and I vowed to Allah that if I remained alive in that holy battle; I would go to Medina and ask Itban Bin Malik if he was still living in the Masjid of his people. So when he returned; I assumed Ihram for Hajj or Umra and then I proceeded on till I reached Medina. I went to Bani Salim and Itban Bin Malik; who was by then an old blind man; was leading his people in the prayer. When he finished the prayer; I greeted him and introduced myself to him and then asked him about that narration. He told that narration again in the same manner as he had narrated it the first time. | The Chapter on Leave in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on To offer Nawafil in congregation in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1258 | Narrated Abu Masud AlAnsari: A man came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! By Allah; I fail to attend the morning congregational prayer because so-and-so i.e.; Muadh Bin Jabal prolongs the prayer when he leads us for it. I had never seen the Prophet ﷺ more furious in giving advice than he was on that day. He then said; O people! some of you make others dislike good deeds; i.e. prayers etc. So whoever among you leads the people in prayer; he should shorten it because among them there are the old; the weak and the busy needy having some jobs to do. In the meantime the time of Asr prayer was due; Bilal pronounced the Adhan and then the Iqama for the prayer and requested Abu Bakr to lead the prayer and Abu Bakr went forward. The Prophet ﷺ arrived while Abu Bakr was still praying. He entered the rows of praying people till he stood behind Abu Bakr in the first row. The people started clapping; and it was the habit of Abu Bakr that whenever he stood for prayer; he never glanced side-ways till he had finished it; but when Abu Bakr observed that the clapping was not coming to an end; he looked and saw the Prophet ﷺ standing behind him. The Prophet ﷺ beckoned him to carry on by waving his hand. Abu Bakr stood there for a while; thanking Allah for the saying of the Prophet ﷺ and then he retreated; taking his steps backwards. When the Prophet saw that; he went ahead and led the people in prayer. When he finished the prayer; he said; O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from carrying on with the prayer after I beckoned you to do so? Abu Bakr replied; It does not befit the son of Abi Quhafa to lead the Prophet ﷺ in prayer. Then the Prophet ﷺ said to the people; If some problem arises during prayers; then the men should say; Subhan Allah!; and the women should clap. He would then see his path; leading either to Paradise or to Hell. And no owner of the camels who does not pay Zakat would be spared but a soft sandy plain would be set for him and they the camels would be made to pass over him till the last of them would be made to return till Allah would pronounce judgment among His servants during a day the extent of which would be fifty thousand years. He would then see his path leading him to Paradise or leading him to Hell. And no owner of the cattle and goats who does not pay Zakat would be spared but a soft sandy plain would be set for him; he would find none of them missing; with twisted horns; without horns; or with broken horns; and they will gore him with their horns and trample him with their hoofs and they would be made to pass over him till the last of them would be made to return till Allah would pronounce judgment among His servants; during a day the extent of which would be fifty thousand years; and he would see the paths leading to Paradise or to Hell. Suhail said: I do not know whether he made mention of the cows. They said: Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; what about the horses? He said: The horses have goodness in their foreheads or he said or goodness is ingrained in the foreheads of the horses Suhail said: I am in doubt as to what was actually said up till the Day Of Judgment. The horses are of three kinds. They are a source of reward to a person; they are a covering to a person; and they are a burden to a person. As for those which bring reward is that a person would get reward who rears them for the sake of Allah and trains them for Him; and nothing disappears in their stomachs but Allah would record for him a good deed. And if they were to graze in the meadow; they would eat nothing but Allah would record for him a reward. And if they were to drink water from the canal; with every drop that; would disappear in their stomachs there would be reward for the owner. He went on describing till a reward was mentioned for their urine and dung. And if they pranced a course or two; there would be recorded a reward for every pace that they covered. As for one for whom they are a covering; he is the man who rears them for honour and dignity but does not forget the right of their backs and their stomachs; in plenty and adversity; As regards one for whom they are a burden; he is that who rears them for vainglory and showing off to the people; for him they are; the burden. They said: Messenger of Allah; what about asses? He said: Allah has not revealed to me anything in regards to it except this one comprehensive verse: He who does an atom weight of good will see it; and he who does an atom weight of evil will see it xcix. 7. | The Chapter on Blowing The Horn In The Day Of Judgment in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 6 in Sahih Muslim

When they intended to return; they said: Messenger of Allah; who will lead us in prayer? He said: The one of you who knows most of the Quran; or memorizes most of the Quran; should act as your imam. There was none in the clan who knew more of the Quran than I did. They; therefore; put me in front of them and I was only a boy. And I wore a mantle; Whenever I was present in the gathering of Jarm name of his clan ; I would act as their Imam; and lead them in their funeral prayer until today.Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated by Amr Bin Salamah through a different chain of transmitter. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stepped forward and led the prayer. When he finished the prayer; he said; Abu Bakr; what prevented you staying at your place when I already commented you to do so? Abu Bakr said ; it was not befitting for the son of Abu Quhafah Abu Bakr to lead the prayer in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said; What is the matter that I saw you clapping frequently during prayer? If anything happens to someone during prayer; he should say Glory be to Allah; for when he glorifies Allah. He pays attention to him. MuwataMalik-017-001-34254 | Malik said; The imam does not come down and prostrate when he recites a piece of Quran requiring a prostration while he is on the mimbar. Malik said; The position with us is that there are eleven prescribed prostrations in the Quran; none of which are in the mufassal. Malik said; No-one should recite any of the pieces of Quran that require a prostration after the prayers of subh and asr. This is because the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; forbade prayer after subh until after the sun had risen; and after asr until the sun had set; and prostration is part of the prayer. So no-one should recite any piece of Quran requiring a prostration during these two periods of time. Malik was asked whether a menstruating woman could prostrate if she heard some-one reciting a passage of Quran requiring a prostration; and he said; Neither a man nor a woman should prostrate unless they are ritually pure. Malik was asked whether a man in the company of a woman who was reciting a passage of Quran requiring a prostration should prostrate with her; and he said; He does not have to prostrate with her. The prostration is only obligatory for people who are with a man who is leading them. He recites the piece and they prostrate with him. Some one who hears a piece of Quran that requires a prostration being recited by a man who is not leading him in prayer does not have to do the prostration. | The Chapter on Prostration While Reciting Alquran in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prayer in Congregation in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-34409 | Malik related to me that he heard that Abdullah Ibn Masud used to say; You must tell the truth. Truthfulness leads to right action. Right action leads to the Garden. MuwataMalik-017-001-34512 | Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham Ibn Urwa from his father from Aisha; the wife of the Prophet; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; that the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer. Aisha said; Messenger of Allah; when Abu Bakr stands in your place his voice does not reach the ears of the people because of his weeping; so tell Umar to lead the people in prayer. He said; Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer. Aisha continued; I told Hafsa to tell him that when Abu Bakr stood in his place his voice did not reach the ears of the people because of his weeping; and that he should tell Umar to lead the people in prayer. Hafsa did so; and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; You are the companions of Yousif! referring to the women who cut their hands when they saw the beauty of Yousif. MuwataMalik-017-001-35104 | Malik said; The generally agreed on way of doing things among us about whatever is weighed but is not gold or silver; i.e. copper; brass; lead; black lead; iron; herbs; figs; cotton; and any such things that are weighed; is that there is no harm in bartering all those sorts of things two for one; hand to hand. There is no harm in taking a ritl of iron for two ritls of iron; and a ritl of brass for two ritls of brass. Malik said; There is no good in two for one of one sort with delayed terms. There is no harm in taking two of one sort for one of another on delayed terms; if the two sorts are clearly different. If both sorts resemble each other but their names are different; like lead and black lead; brass and yellow brass; I disapprove of taking two of one sort for one of the other on delayed terms. Malik said; When buying something of this nature; there is no harm in selling It beforetaking possession of it to some one other than the person from whom it was purchased; if the price is taken immediately and if it was bought originally by measure or weight. If it was bought without measuring; it should be sold to someone other than the person from whom it was bought; for cash or with delayed terms. That is because goods have to be guaranteed when they are bought without measuring; and they cannot be guaranteed when bought by weight until they are weighed and the deal is completed. This is the best of what I have heard about all these things. It is what people continue to do among us. Malik said; The way of doing things among us with what is measured or weighed of things which are not eaten or drunk; like safflower; date-stones; fodder leaves; indigo dye and the like of that is that there is no harm in bartering all those sort of things two for one; hand to hand. Do not take two for one from the same variety with delayed terms. If the types are clearly different; there is no harm in taking two of one for one of the other with delayed terms. There is no harm in selling whatever is purchased of all these sorts; before taking delivery of them if the price is taken from someone other than the person from whom they were purchased. Malik said; Anything of any variety that profits people; like gravel and gypsum; one quantity of them for two of its like with delayed terms is usury. One quantity of both of them for its equal plus any increase with delayed terms; is usury. | The Chapter on Financial Transaction And Food in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Blood Money in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-36166 | Yahya related to me from Malik from Abd arRahman Ibn AlQasim from his father that Aisha umm Almuminin said; We went out on a journey with the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and; when we came to Bayda or Dhat AlJaysh; a necklace of mine broke. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; stopped to look for it and the people stopped with him. There was no water nearby and the people were not carrying any with them; so they came to Abu Bakr AlSiddiq and said; Dont you see what Aisha has done? She has made the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and the people stop when there is no water nearby and they are not carrying any with them. Aisha continued; Abu Bakr came and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; had fallen asleep with his head on my thigh. Abu Bakr said; You have made the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and the people stop when there is no water nearby and they are not carrying any with them She continued; Abu Bakr remonstrated with me and said whatever Allah willed him to say; and began to poke me in the waist. The only thing that stopped me from moving was that the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; had his head on my thigh. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; slept until morning found him with no water. Allah; the Blessed and Exalted; sent down the ayat of tayammum and so they did tayammum. Usayd Ibn Hudayr said; This is not the first baraka from you; O family of Abu Bakr. Aisha added; We roused the camel I had been on and found the necklace under it. Malik was asked whether a man who did tayammum for one prayer should do tayammum when the time of the next prayer came or whether the first tayammum was enough. He said; No; he does tayammum for every prayer; because he has to look for water for every prayer. If he looks for it and does not find it then he does tayammum. Malik was asked whether a man who did tayammum could lead others in prayer if they were in Ablution. He said; I prefer that someone else should lead them. However; I see no harm in it if he does lead them in prayer. Yahya said that Malik said that a man who did tayammum because he could not find any water; and then stood and said the takbir and entered into the prayer; and then someone came with some water; did not stop his prayer but completed it with tayammum and did Ablution for future prayers. Yahya said that Malik said; Whoever rises for prayer and does not find water and so does what Allah has ordered him to do of tayammum has obeyed Allah. Someone who does find water is neither purer than him nor more perfect in prayer; because both have been commanded and each does as Allah has commanded. What Allah has commanded as far as Ablution is concerned is for the one who finds water; and tayammum is for the one who does not find water before he enters into the prayer. Malik said that a man who was in a state of major ritual impurity could do tayammum and read his portion of Quran and do voluntary prayers as long as he did not find any water. This applied only to circumstances in which it was allowable to pray with tayammum. | The Chapter on Peace And Ablution in HodHood Indexing, The Book of The Quran in Muwata Malik |
