Among you are some that hanker after this world and some that desire the Hereafter. They (also) said: "Allah took our promise not to believe in an messenger unless He showed us a sacrifice consumed by Fire (From heaven)." Say: "There came to you messengers before me, with clear Signs and even with what ye ask for: why then did ye slay them, if ye speak the truth?"
And when it was said that the promise of Allah was true, and that the Hour- there was no doubt about its (coming), ye used to say, 'We know not what is the hour: we only think it is an idea, and we have no firm assurance.'"
And Abraham prayed for his father's forgiveness only because of a promise he had made to him. But when it became clear to him that he was an enemy to Allah, he dissociated himself from him: for Abraham was most tender-hearted, forbearing.
So Moses returned to his people in a state of indignation and sorrow. He said: "O my people! did not your Lord make a handsome promise to you? Did then the promise seem to you long (in coming)? Or did ye desire that Wrath should descend from your Lord on you, and so ye broke your promise to me?"

I had no authority over you except to call you but ye listened to me: then reproach not me, but reproach your own souls. I cannot listen to your cries, nor can ye listen to mine. I reject your former act in associating me with Allah. For wrong-doers there must be a grievous penalty."

Hadith PageArabic TextEnglish TranslationBook and Chapter
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1070Narrated Ata Bin Yazid AlLaithi: On the authority of Abu Huraira: The people said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection? The Prophet ﷺ said; Do you have any difficulty in seeing the moon on a full moon night? They said; No; O Allah Messenger ﷺ. He said; Do you have any difficulty in seeing the sun when there are no clouds? They said; No; O Allah Messenger ﷺ. He said; So you will see Him; like that. Allah will gather all the people on the Day of Resurrection; and say; Whoever worshipped something in the world should follow that thing ; so; whoever worshipped the sun will follow the sun; and whoever worshiped the moon will follow the moon; and whoever used to worship certain other false deities; he will follow those deities. And there will remain only this nation with its good people or its hypocrites. The sub-narrator; Ibrahim is in doubt. Allah will come to them and say; I am your Lord. They will deny Him and say; We will stay here till our Lord comes; for when our Lord comes; we will recognize Him. So Allah will come to them in His appearance which they know; and will say; I am your Lord. They will say; You are our Lord; so they will follow Him. Then a bridge will be laid across Hell Fire I and my followers will be the first ones to go across it and none will speak on that Day except the Apostles. And the invocation of the Apostles on that Day will be; O Allah; save! Save! In Hell or over The Bridge there will be hooks like the thorns of AlSadan thorny plant. Have you seen AlSadan? They replied; Yes; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said; So those hooks look like the thorns of AlSadan; but none knows how big they are except Allah. Those hooks will snap the people away according to their deeds. Some of the people will stay in Hell be destroyed because of their evil deeds; and some will be cut or torn by the hooks and fall into Hell and some will be punished and then relieved. When Allah has finished His Judgments among the people; He will take whomever He will out of Hell through His Mercy. He will then order the angels to take out of the Fire all those who used to worship none but Allah from among those whom Allah wanted to be merciful to and those who testified in the world that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah. The angels will recognize them in the Fire by the marks of prostration on their foreheads ; for the Fire will eat up all the human body except the mark caused by prostration as Allah has forbidden the Fire to eat the mark of prostration. They will come out of the Hell Fire; completely burnt and then the water of life will be poured over them and they will grow under it as does a seed that comes in the mud of the torrent. Then Allah will finish the judgments among the people; and there will remain one man facing the Hell Fire and he will be the last person among the people of Hell to enter Paradise. He will say; O my Lord! Please turn my face away from the fire because its air has hurt me and its severe heat has burnt me. So he will invoke Allah in the way Allah will wish him to invoke; and then Allah will say to him; If I grant you that; will you then ask for anything else? He will reply; No; by Your Power; Honor I will not ask You for anything else. He will give his Lord whatever promises and covenants Allah will demand. So Allah will turn his face away from Hell Fire. When he will face Paradise and will see it; he will remain quiet for as long as Allah will wish him to remain quiet; then he will say; O my Lord! Bring me near to the gate of Paradise. Allah will say to him; Didnt you give your promises and covenants that you would never ask for anything more than what you had been given? Woe on you; O Adam son! How treacherous you are! He will say; O my lord; and will keep on invoking Allah till He says to him; If I give what you are asking; will you then ask for anything else? He will reply; No; by Your Honor Power; I will not ask for anything else. Then he will give covenants and promises to Allah and then Allah will bring him near to the gate of Paradise. When he stands at the gate of Paradise; Paradise will be opened and spread before him; and he will see its splendor and pleasures whereupon he will remain quiet as long as Allah will wish him to remain quiet; and then he will say; O my Lord! Admit me into Paradise. Allah will say; Didnt you give your covenants and promises that you would not ask for anything more than what you had been given? Allah will say; Woe on you; O Adam son! How treacherous you are! The man will say; O my Lord! Do not make me the most miserable of Your creation; and he will keep on invoking Allah till Allah will laugh because of his sayings; and when Allah will laugh because of him; He will say to him; Enter Paradise; and when he will enter it; Allah will say to him; Wish for anything. So he will ask his Lord; and he will wish for a great number of things; for Allah Himself will remind him to wish for certain things by saying; Wish for so-and-so. When there is nothing more to wish for; Allah will say; This is for you; and its equal is for you as well. Ata Bin Yazid added: Abu Saeed AlKhudri who was present with Abu Huraira; did not deny whatever the latter said; but when Abu Huraira said that Allah had said; That is for you and its equal as well; Abu Saeed AlKhudri said; And ten times as much; O Abu Huraira! Abu Huraira said; I do not remember; except his saying; That is for you and its equal as well. Abu Saeed AlKhudri then said; I testify that I remember the Prophet ﷺ saying; That is for you; and ten times as much. Abu Huraira then added; That man will be the last person of the people of Paradise to enter Paradise. The Chapter on Worship To Save Oneself From Hell Fire in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Some faces that Day shall be Nadirah Looking at their Lord in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2182Narrated Abu Said: The Prophet ﷺ mentioned a man from the previous generation or from the people preceding your age whom Allah had given both wealth and children. The Prophet ﷺ said; When the time of his death approached; he asked his children; What type of father have I been to you? They replied: You have been a good father. He said; But he i.e. your father has not stored any good deeds with Allah for the Hereafter : if he should face Allah; Allah will punish him. So listen; O my children ; when I die; burn my body till I become mere coal and then grind it into powder; and when there is a stormy wind; throw me my ashes in it. So he took a firm promise from his children to follow his instructions. And by Allah they his sons did accordingly fulfilled their promise. Then Allah said; Be and behold! That man was standing there! Allah then said. O my slave! What made you do what you did? That man said; Fear of You. So Allah forgave him.The Chapter on Funerals And Punishment in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on To be afraid of Allah AlZa wa Jall in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2273Narrated Abu Huraira: Some people said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection? He said; Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the sun when it is not hidden by clouds? They replied; No; Allah Messenger ﷺ. He said; Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the moon when it is full and not hidden by clouds? They replied; No; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said; So you will see Him your Lord on the Day of Resurrection similarly Allah will gather all the people and say; Whoever used to worship anything should follow that thing. So; he who used to worship the sun; will follow it; and he who used to worship the moon will follow it; and he who used to worship false deities will follow them; and then only this nation i.e.; Muslims will remain; including their hypocrites. Allah will come to them in a shape other than they know and will say; I am your Lord. They will say; We seek refuge with Allah from you. This is our place; we will not follow you till our Lord comes to us; and when our Lord comes to us; we will recognize Him. Then Allah will come to then in a shape they know and will say; I am your Lord. They will say; No doubt You are our Lord; and they will follow Him. Then a bridge will be laid over the Hell Fire. Allah Messenger ﷺ added; I will be the first to cross it. And the invocation of the Apostles on that Day; will be Allahumma Sallim; Sallim O Allah; save us; save us! ; and over that bridge there will be hooks Similar to the thorns of As Sadan a thorny tree. Didnt you see the thorns of AlSadan? The companions said; Yes; O Allah Messenger ﷺ. He added; So the hooks over that bridge will be like the thorns of AlSa-dan except that their greatness in size is only known to Allah. These hooks will snatch the people according to their deeds. Some people will be ruined because of their evil deeds; and some will be cut into pieces and fall down in Hell; but will be saved afterwards; when Allah has finished the judgments among His slaves; and intends to take out of the Fire whoever He wishes to take out from among those who used to testify that none had the right to be worshipped but Allah. We will order the angels to take them out and the angels will know them by the mark of the traces of prostration on their foreheads for Allah banned the f ire to consume the traces of prostration on the body of Adam son. So they will take them out; and by then they would have burnt as coal ; and then water; called Maul Hayat water of life will be poured on them; and they will spring out like a seed springs out on the bank of a rainwater stream; and there will remain one man who will be facing the Hell Fire and will say; O Lord! It Hells vapor has Poisoned and smoked me and its flame has burnt me; please turn my face away from the Fire. He will keep on invoking Allah till Allah says; Perhaps; if I give you what you want ; you will ask for another thing? The man will say; No; by Your Power; I will not ask You for anything else. Then Allah will turn his face away from the Fire. The man will say after that; O Lord; bring me near the gate of Paradise. Allah will say to him ; Didnt you promise not to ask for anything else? Woe to you; O son of Adam ! How treacherous you are! The man will keep on invoking Allah till Allah will say; But if I give you that; you may ask me for something else. The man will say; No; by Your Power. I will not ask for anything else. He will give Allah his covenant and promise not to ask for anything else after that. So Allah will bring him near to the gate of Paradise; and when he sees what is in it; he will remain silent as long as Allah will; and then he will say; O Lord! Let me enter Paradise. Allah will say; Didnt you promise that you would not ask Me for anything other than that? Woe to you; O son of Adam ! How treacherous you are! On that; the man will say; O Lord! Do not make me the most wretched of Your creation; and will keep on invoking Allah till Allah will smile and when Allah will smile because of him; then He will allow him to enter Paradise; and when he will enter Paradise; he will be addressed; Wish from so-and-so. He will wish till all his wishes will be fulfilled; then Allah will say; All this i.e. what you have wished for and as much again therewith are for you. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3724Narrated Ibn Abbas: When Abu Dhar received the news of the Advent of the Prophet ﷺ he said to his brother; Ride to this valley of Mecca and try to find out the truth of the person who claims to be a prophet who is informed of the news of Heaven. Listen to what he says and come back to me. So his brother set out and came to the Prophet ﷺ and listened to some of his talks; and returned to Abu Dhar and said to him. I have seen him enjoining virtuous behavior and saying something that is not poetry. Abu Dhar said; You have not satisfied me as to what I wanted. He then took his journey-food and carried a waterskin of his; containing some water till be reached Mecca. He went to the Masjid and searched for the Prophet and though he did not know him; he hated to ask anybody about him. When a part of the night had passed away; Ali saw him and knew that he was a stranger. So when Abu Dhar saw Ali; he followed him; and none of them asked his companion about anything; and when it was dawn; Abu Dhar took his journey food and his water-skin to the Masjid and stayed there all the day long without being perceived by the Prophet; and when it was evening; he came back to his retiring place. Ali passed by him and said; Has the man not known his dwelling place yet? So Ali awakened him and took him with him and none of them spoke to the other about anything. When it was the third day. Ali did the same and Abu Dhar stayed with him. Then Ali said Will you tell me what has brought you here? Abu Dhar said; If you give me a firm promise that you will guide me; then I will tell you. Ali promised him; and he informed Ali about the matter. Ali said; It is true; and he is the Messenger of Allah. Next morning when you get up; accompany me; and if I see any danger for you; I will stop as if to pass water; but if I go on; follow me and enter the place which I will enter. Abu Dhar did so; and followed Ali till he entered the place of the Prophet; and Abu Dhar went in with him; Abu Dhar listened to some of the Prophet talks and embraced Islam on the spot. The Prophet ﷺ said to him; Go back to your people and inform them about it till you receive my order. Abu Dhar said; By Him in Whose Hand my life is; I will proclaim my conversion loudly amongst them i.e. the pagans. So he went out; and when he reached the Masjid; he said as loudly as possible; I bear witness that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah; and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. The People got up and beat him painfully. Then AlAbbas came and knelt over him to protect him and said to the people ; Woe to you! Dont you know that this man belongs to the tribe of Ghifar and your trade to Sham is through their way? So he rescued him from them. Abu Dhar again did the same the next day. Ali said; No. AlMiswar said; Will you give me the sword of Allah Messenger ﷺ for I am afraid that people may take it from you by force? When Ali Bin Abu Talib demanded the hand of the daughter of Abi Jahal to be his wife besides Fatima; I heard Allah Messenger ﷺ on his pulpit delivering a sermon in this connection before the people; and I had then attained my age of puberty. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Fatima is from me; and I am afraid she will be subjected to trials in her religion because of jealousy. The Prophet ﷺ then mentioned one of his son-in-law who was from the tribe of Abu Shams; and he praised him as a good son-in-law; saying; Whatever he said was the truth; and he promised me and fulfilled his promise. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4036Narrated Jabir: Allah Messenger ﷺ said to me ; If the property of Bahrain had come to us; I would have given you so much and so much. But the Bahrain property did not come till the Prophet ﷺ had died. When the Bahrain property came. Abu Bakr ordered somebody to announce; Any person who has money claim on Allah Messenger ﷺ or whom Allah Messenger ﷺ had promised something; should come to us. So; I went to him and said; Allah Messenger ﷺ had promised to give me so much an so much. Abu Bakr scooped up money with both hands thrice for me. The sub-narrator Sufyan illustrated this action by scooping up with both hands and said; Ibn Munkadir; another sub-narrator; used to illustrate it in this way. Narrated Jabir: Once I went to Abu Bakr and asked for the money but he did not give me; and I went to him again; but he did not give me; so I went to him for the third time and said; I asked you; but you did not give me; then I asked you for the second time and you did not give me; then I asked you for the third time but you did not give me. You should either give me or allow yourself to be considered a miser regarding my case. Abu Bakr said; You tell me that I am a miser with regard to you. But really; whenever I rejected your request; I had the inclination to give you. In another narration Jabir added: So; Abu Bakr scooped up money with both hands for me and asked me to count it. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4610Narrated Abdullah Bin Abbas: Allah Messenger ﷺ wrote to Caesar and invited him to Islam and sent him his letter with Dihya AlKalbi whom Allah Messenger ﷺ ordered to hand it over to the Governor of Busra who would forward it to Caesar. Caesar as a sign of gratitude to Allah; had walked from Hims to Ilya i.e. Jerusalem when Allah had granted Him victory over the Persian forces. So; when the letter of Allah Messenger ﷺ reached Caesar; he said after reading it; Seek for me any one of his people! Arabs of Quraish tribe if present here; in order to ask him about Allah Messenger ﷺ. At that time Abu Sufyan Bin Harb was in Sham with some men frown Quraish who had come to Sham as merchants during the truce that had been concluded between Allah Messenger ﷺ ; and the infidels of Quraish. Abu Sufyan said; Caesar messenger found us somewhere in Sham so he took me and my companions to Ilya and we were admitted into Ceasar court to find him sitting in his royal court wearing a crown and surrounded by the senior dignitaries of the Byzantine. He said to his translator. Ask them who amongst them is a close relation to the man who claims to be a prophet. Abu Sufyan added; I replied; I am the nearest relative to him. He asked; What degree of relationship do you have with him? I replied; He is my cousin; and there was none of Bani Abu Manaf in the caravan except myself. Caesar said; Let him come nearer. He then ordered that my companions stand behind me near my shoulder and said to his translator; Tell his companions that I am going to ask this man about the man who claims to be a prophet. If he tells a lie; they should contradict him immediately. Abu Sufyan added; By Allah! Had it not been shameful that my companions label me a liar; I would not have spoken the truth about him when he asked me. But I considered it shameful to be called a liar by my companions. So I told the truth. He then said to his translator; Ask him what kind of family does he belong to. I replied; He belongs to a noble family amongst us. He said; Have anybody else amongst you ever claimed the same before him? I replied; No. He said; Had you ever blamed him for telling lies before he claimed what he claimed? I replied; No. He said; Was anybody amongst his ancestors a king? I replied; No. He said; Do the noble or the poor follow him? I replied; It is the poor who follow him. He said; Are they increasing or decreasing day by day ? I replied; They are increasing. He said; Does anybody amongst those who embrace his the Prophets Religion become displeased and then discard his Religion?. I replied; No. He said; Does he break his promises? I replied; No; but we are now at truce with him and we are afraid that he may betray us. Abu Sufyan added; Other than the last sentence; I could not say anything against him. Caesar then asked; Have you ever had a war with him? I replied; Yes. He said; What was the outcome of your battles with him? I replied; The result was unstable; sometimes he was victorious and sometimes we. He said; What does he order you to do? I said; He tells us to worship Allah alone; and not to worship others along with Him; and to leave all that our fore-fathers used to worship. He orders us to pray; give in charity; be chaste; keep promises and return what is entrusted to us. When I had said that; Caesar said to his translator; Say to him: I ask you about his lineage and your reply was that he belonged to a noble family. In fact; all the apostles came from the noblest lineage of their nations. Then I questioned you whether anybody else amongst you had claimed such a thing; and your reply was in the negative. If the answer had been in the affirmative; I would have thought that this man was following a claim that had been said before him. When I asked you whether he was ever blamed for telling lies; your reply was in the negative; so I took it for granted that a person who did not tell a lie about others the people could never tell a lie about Allah. Then I asked you whether any of his ancestors was a king. Your reply was in the negative; and if it had been in the affirmative; I would have thought that this man wanted to take back his ancestral kingdom. When I asked you whether the rich or the poor people followed him; you replied that it was the poor who followed him. In fact; such are the followers of the apostles. Then I asked you whether his followers were increasing or decreasing. You replied that they were increasing. In fact; this is the result of true faith till it is complete in all respects. I asked you whether there was anybody who; after embracing his religion; became displeased and discarded his religion; your reply was in the negative. In fact; this is the sign of true faith; for when its cheerfulness enters and mixes in the hearts completely; nobody will be displeased with it. I asked you whether he had ever broken his promise. You replied in the negative. And such are the apostles; they never break their promises. When I asked you whether you fought with him and he fought with you; you replied that he did; and that sometimes he was victorious and sometimes you. Indeed; such are the apostles; they are put to trials and the final victory is always theirs. Then I asked you what he ordered you. You replied that he ordered you to worship Allah alone and not to worship others along with Him; to leave all that your fore-fathers used to worship; to offer prayers; to speak the truth; to be chaste; to keep promises; and to return what is entrusted to you. These are really the qualities of a prophet who; I knew from the previous Scriptures would appear; but I did not know that he would be from amongst you. If what you say should be true; he will very soon occupy the earth under my feet; and if I knew that I would reach him definitely; I would go immediately to meet Him; and were I with him; then I would certainly wash his feet. Abu Sufyan added; Caesar then asked for the letter of Allah Messenger ﷺ and it was read. Its contents were: In the name of Allah; the most Beneficent; the most Merciful This letter is from Muhammad; the slave of Allah; and His Apostle; to Heraculius; the Ruler of the Byzantine. Peace be upon the followers of guidance. Now then; I invite you to Islam i.e. surrender to Allah ; embrace Islam and you will be safe; embrace Islam and Allah will bestow on you a double reward. But if you reject this invitation of Islam; you shall be responsible for misguiding the peasants i.e. your nation. O people of the Scriptures! Come to a word common to you and us and you; that we worship. None but Allah; and that we associate nothing in worship with Him; and that none of us shall take others as Lords besides Allah. Then if they turn away; say: Bear witness that we are they who have surrendered unto Him.. 3.64 Abu Sufyan added; When Heraclius had finished his speech; there was a great hue and cry caused by the Byzantine Royalties surrounding him; and there was so much noise that I did not understand what they said. So; we were turned out of the court. When I went out with my companions and we were alone; I said to them; Verily; Ibn Abi Kabsha i.e. the Prophets affair has gained power. I believed that he would show up again as Allah Messenger ﷺ had told me that he would return. So; I waited for him watchfully. When he showed up and started stealing handfuls of foodstuff; I caught hold of him again and said; I will definitely take you to Allah Messenger ﷺ. He said; Leave me; for I am very needy and have many dependents. I promise I will not come back again. I pitied him and let him go. In the morning Allah Messenger ﷺ asked me; What did your prisoner do. I replied; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He complained of his great need and of too many dependents; so I took pity on him and set him free. Allah Apostle said; Verily; he told you a lie and he will return. I waited for him attentively for the third time; and when he came and started stealing handfuls of the foodstuff; I caught hold of him and said; I will surely take you to Allah Messenger ﷺ as it is the third time you promise not to return; yet you break your promise and come. He said; Forgive me and I will teach you some words with which Allah will benefit you. I asked; What are they? He replied; Whenever you go to bed; recite Ayat AlKursi- Allahu la ilaha illa huwa AlHaiy AlQaiyum till you finish the whole verse. If you do so ; Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you and no satan will come near you till morning. So; I released him. In the morning; Allah Apostle asked; What did your prisoner do yesterday? I replied; He claimed that he would teach me some words by which Allah will benefit me; so I let him go. Allah Messenger ﷺ asked; What are they? I replied; He said to me; Whenever you go to bed; recite Ayat AlKursi from the beginning to the end -- Allahu la ilaha illa huwa-lHaiy AlQaiyum--. He further said to me; If you do so ; Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you; and no satan will come near you till morning. SahihMuslim-017-001-18051It has been narrated on the authority of Umar Bin AlKhattab who said: When it was the day on which the Battle of Badr was fought; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cast a glance at the infidels; and they were one thousand while his own Companions were three hundred and nineteen. The Prophet ﷺ turned his face towards the Qibla. Then he stretched his hands and began his supplication to his Lord: O Allah; accomplish for me what Thou hast promised to me. O Allah; bring about what Thou hast promised to me. O Allah; if this small band of Muslims is destroyed. Thou will not be worshipped on this earth. He continued his supplication to his Lord; stretching his hands; facing the Qibla; until his mantle slipped down from his shoulders. So Abu Bakr came to him; picked up his mantle and put it on his shoulders. Then he embraced him from behind and said: Prophet of Allah; this prayer of yours to your Lord will suffice you; and He will fulfill for you what He has promised you. So Allah; the Glorious and Exalted; revealed the Quranic verse : When ye appealed to your Lord for help; He responded to your call saying : I will help you with one thousand angels coming in succession. So Allah helped him with angels. Abu Zumail said that the hadith was narrated to him by Ibn Abbas who said: While on that day a Muslim was chasing a disbeliever who was going ahead of him; he heard over him the swishing of the whip and the voice of the rider saying: Go ahead; Haizum! He glanced at the polytheist who had now fallen down on his back. When he looked at him carefully he found that there was a scar on his nose and his face was torn as if it had been lashed with a whip; and had turned green with its poison. An Ansari came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and related this event to him. He said: You have told the truth. This was the help from the third heaven. The Muslims that day i.e. the day of the Battle of Badr killed seventy persons and captured seventy. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Abu Bakr and Umar Allah be pleased with them : What is your opinion about these captives? Abu Bakr said: They are our kith and kin. I think you should release them after getting from them a ransom. This will be a source of strength to us against the infidels. It is quite possible that Allah may guide them to Islam. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What is your opinion; Ibn AlKhattab? He said: Messenger of Allah; I do not hold the same opinion as Abu Bakr. I am of the opinion that you should hand them over to us so that we may cut off their heads. Hand over Aqil to Ali that he may cut off his head; and hand over such and such relative to me that I may cut off his head. They are leaders of the disbelievers and veterans among them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ approved the opinion of Abu Bakr and did not approve what I said. The next day when I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; I found that both he and Abu Bakr were sitting shedding tears. I said: Messenger of Allah; why are you and your Companion shedding tears? Tell me the reason. For I will weep; or I will at least pretend to weep in sympathy with you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I weep for what has happened to your companions for taking ransom from the prisoners. I was shown the torture to which they were subjected. It was brought to me as close as this tree. He pointed to a tree close to him. Then God revealed the verse: It is not befitting for a prophet that he should take prisoners until the force of the disbelievers has been crushed... to the end of the verse: so eat ye the spoils of war; it is lawful and pure. So Allah made booty lawful for them. The Chapter on Almaghazi And Alansar in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 18 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18914Anas Bin Malik reported: We were along with Umar between Mecca and Medina that we began to look for the new moon. And I was a man with sharp eye- sight; so I could see it; but none except me saw it. I began to say to Umar: Dont you see it? But he would not see it. Thereupon Umar said: I would soon be able to see it when it will shine more brightly. I lay upon bed. He then made a mention of the people of Badr to us and said: Allah Messenger ﷺ showed us one day before the actual battle the place of death of the people participating in the Battle of Badr and he was saying: This would be the place of death of so and so tomorrow; if Allah wills. Umar said: By Him Who sent him with truth; they did not miss the places of their death which Allah Messenger ﷺ had pointed for them. Then they were all thrown in a well one after another. Allah Messenger ﷺ then went to them and said: O; so and so; the son of so and so; O so and so; the son of so and so; have you found correct what Allah and His Messenger had promised you? I have; however; found absolutely true what Allah had promised with me. Umar said: Allah Messenger; how are you talking with the bodies without soul in them. As for me; I have found the promises of my Lord to be perfectly correct. Umar listened to the words of Allah Apostle ﷺ and said: Allah Messenger; how do they listen and respond to you? They are dead and their bodies have decayed. Thereupon he the Holy Prophet said: By Him in Whose Hand is my life; what I am saying to them; even you cannot hear more distinctly than they; but they lack the power to reply. Then it occurred to him that there had been a puppy under their cot. He commanded and it was turned out. He then took some water in his hand and sprinkled it at that place. When it was evening Gabriel met him and he said to him: you promised me that you would meet me the previous night. He said: Yes; but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture. I said: Allah Messenger; we observed evening prayer with you; then we said: Let us sit down and observe night prayer along with you; whereupon he said: You have done well or you have done right. He then lifted his head towards the sky and it often happened that as he lifted his head towards the sky; he said: The stars are a source of security for the sky and when the stars disappear there comes to the sky; i. e. it meets the same fate as it has been promised it would plunge into darkness. And I am a source of safety and security to my Companions and when I would go away there would fall to the lot of my Companions as they have been promised with and my Companions are a source of security for the Umma and as they would go there would fall to the lot of my Umma as its people have been promised. The Chapter on Rain And Clouds And Heaven in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 51 in Sahih Muslim

He had promised thirteen young camels for us; so we went to get them. When we arrived he had died without giving us anything. AlMukhdaji said: In the morning I went to Ubadah Bin AlSamit; and I met him while he was on his way to the Masjid. I told him what Abu Muhammad said; and Ubadah said: Abu Muhammad is wrong. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Five prayers are those that Allah has decreed for His slaves; whoever does them; and does not neglect any of them out of disregard toward them; will have a promise from Allah that He will admit him to Paradise. And whoever does not to them will have no such promise from Allah; if He wills he will punish him and if He wills He will admit him to Paradise. The Chapter on Payments And Buying Of Slaves in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Observing The Five Daily Prayers in Sunan AlNasai

SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25330Narrated Abdullah Ibn Amr Ibn AlAs: There was an eclipse of the sun in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and he was not going to perform bowing till he bowed; and he was not going to raise his head till he raised after bowing ; and he was not going to prostrate himself till he prostrated himself; and he was not going to raise his head till he raised at the end of prostration ; he did similarly in the second rakah; he then puffed in the last prostration saying; Fie; Fie! He then said: My Lord; didst Thou not promise me that Thou wouldst not punish them so long as I will remain among them? Didst Thou not promise me that Thou will not punish them so long as they continue to beg pardon of Thee. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer; and the sun was clear. MuwataMalik-017-001-35123Malik related to me from Humayd Ibn Qays AlMakki that Mujahid said; Abdullah Ibn Umar borrowed some dirhams from a man; then he discharged his debt with dirhams better than them. The man said; Abu Abdar-Rahman. These are better than the dirhams which I lent you. Abdullah Ibn Umar said; I know that. But I am happy with myself about that. Malik said; There is no harm in a person who has borrowed gold; silver; food; or animals; taking to the person who lent it; something better than what he lent; when that is not a stipulation between them nor a custom. If that is by a stipulation or promise or custom; then it is disapproved; and there is no good in it. He said; That is because the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; discharged his debt with a good camel in its seventh year in place of a young camel which he borrowed; and Abdullah Ibn Umar borrowed some dirhams; and repaid them with better ones. If that is from the goodness of the borrower; and it is not by a stipulation; promise; or custom; it is halal and there is no harm in it.The Chapter on Debt And Creditors And Payments in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Blood Money in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35419Yahya related to me from Malik from a man of Kufa that Umar Ibn AlKhattab wrote to a lieutenant of an army which he had sent out; I have heard that it is the habit of some of your men to chase an unbeliever till he takes refuge in a high place. Then one man tells him in Persian not to be afraid; and when he comes up to him; he kills him. By He in whose hand my self is; if I knew someone who had done that; I would strike off his head. Yahya said; I heard Malik say; This tradition is not unanimously agreed upon; so one does not act on it. Malik when asked whether safe conduct promised by gesture had the same status as that promised by speech; said; Yes. I think that one can request an army not to kill someone by gesturing for safe conduct; because as far as I am concerned; gesture has the same status as speech. I have heard that Abdullah Ibn Abbas said; There is no people who betray a pledge; but that Allah gives their enemies power over them. The Chapter on Hand Gestures Pointing in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Jihad in Muwata Malik
