Be their hands tied up and be they accursed for the (blasphemy) they utter. Nay, both His hands are widely outstretched: He giveth and spendeth (of His bounty) as He pleaseth. But the revelation that cometh to thee from Allah increaseth in most of them their obstinate rebellion and blasphemy. Amongst them we have placed enmity and hatred till the Day of Judgment. Every time they kindle the fire of war, Allah doth extinguish it; but they (ever) strive to do mischief on earth. And Allah loveth not those who do mischief. | |

Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah, - He will never let their deeds be lost. | |

If the deceased belonged to a people at war with you, and he was a believer, the freeing of a believing slave (Is enough). If he belonged to a people with whom ye have treaty of Mutual alliance, compensation should be paid to his family, and a believing slave be freed. For those who find this beyond their means, (is prescribed) a fast for two months running: by way of repentance to Allah: for Allah hath all knowledge and all wisdom. | |

If Allah had pleased, He could have given them power over you, and they would have fought you: Therefore if they withdraw from you but fight you not, and (instead) send you (Guarantees of) peace, then Allah Hath opened no way for you (to war against them). | |

We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those whom thy right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom Allah has assigned to thee; and daughters of thy paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of thy maternal uncles and aunts, who migrated (from Makka) with thee; and any believing woman who dedicates her soul to the Prophet if the Prophet wishes to wed her;- this only for thee, and not for the Believers (at large); We know what We have appointed for them as to their wives and the captives whom their right hands possess;- in order that there should be no difficulty for thee. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. | |

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2837 | Narrated Rafi Bin Khadeej: I said to the Prophet; We will be facing the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives for slaughtering He said; If you slaughter the animal with anything that causes its blood to flow out; and if Allah Name is mentioned on slaughtering it; eat of it; unless the killing instrument is a tooth or nail. I will tell you why: As for the tooth; it is a bone; and as for the nail; it is the knife of Ethiopians. The quick ones among the people got the war booty while the Prophet ﷺ was behind the people. So they placed the cooking pots on the fire; but the Prophet ﷺ ordered the cooking pots to be turned upside down. Then he distributed the war booty among them; considering one camel as equal to ten sheep. Then a camel belonging to the first party of people ran away and they had no horses with them; so a man shot it with an arrow whereby Allah stopped it. The Prophet ﷺ said; Of these animals there are some which are as wild as wild beasts. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4031 | Narrated Marwan Bin AlHakim and Miswar Bin Makhrama: When the Hawazin delegation came to Allah Messenger ﷺ after they had embraced Islam and requested him to return their properties and war prisoners to them; Allah Messenger ﷺ said; To me the best talk is the truest; so you may choose either of two things; the war prisoners or the wealth; for I have delayed their distribution. Allah Messenger ﷺ had waited for them for over ten days when he returned from Taif. So; when those people came to know that Allah Messenger ﷺ was not going to return to them except one of the two things the said; We choose our war Prisoners Allah Messenger ﷺ stood up amongst the Muslims; and after glorifying Allah as He deserved; he said; Now then; these brothers of yours have come to us with repentance; and I see it logical that I should return their captives to them; so whoever of you likes to do that as a favor then he can do it; and whoever amongst you likes to stick to his share; let him give up his prisoners and we will compensate him from the very first Fai i.e. war booty received without fight which Allah will give us. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6924 | Narrated Abu Qilaba: That he was sitting behind Umar Bin Abd AlAziz and the people mentioned and mentioned about at-Qasama and they said various things ; and said that the Caliphs had permitted it. So they took them and set out and drank of their urine and milk; and having recovered; they attacked the shepherd; killed him and drove away the camels. Why should there be any delay in punishing them as they murdered a person and waged war against Allah and His Apostle and frightened Allah Messenger ﷺ ? Anbasa said; I testify the uniqueness of Allah! Abu Qilaba said; Do you suspect me? Anbasa said; No; Anas narrated that Hadith to us. SahihMuslim-017-001-17985 | It has been reported from Sulaiman Bin Buraida through his father that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed anyone as leader of an army or detachment he would especially exhort him to fear Allah and to be good to the Muslims who were with him. He would say: Fight in the name of Allah and in the way of Allah. Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war; do not embezzle the spoils; do not break your pledge; and do not mutilate the dead bodies; do not kill the children. When you meet your enemies who are polytheists; invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these; you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to accept Islam; if they respond to you; accept it from them and desist from fighting against them. Then invite them to migrate from their lands to the land of the Muhajireen and inform them that; if they do so; they shall have all the privileges and obligations of the Muhajireen. If they refuse to migrate; tell them that they will have the status of Bedouin Muslims and will be subjected to the Commands of Allah like other Muslims; but they will not get any share from the spoils of war or Fai except when they actually fight with the Muslims against the disbelievers. If they refuse to accept Islam; demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay; accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax; seek Allah help and fight them. When you lay siege to a fort and the besieged appeal to you for protection in the name of Allah and His Prophet; do not accord to them the guarantee of Allah and His Prophet; but accord to them your own guarantee and the guarantee of your companions for it is a lesser sin that the security given by you or your companions be disregarded than that the security granted in the name of Allah and His Prophet be violated. SahihMuslim-017-001-18018 | It has been narrated by Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: One of the Prophets made a holy war. He said to his followers: One who has married a woman and wants to consummate to his marriage but has not yet done so; another who has built a house but has not yet erected its roof; and another who has bought goats and pregnantshe-camels and is waiting for their offspring-will not accommpany me. So he marched on and approached a village at or about the time of the Asr prayers. He said to the sun: Thou art subserviant to Allah and so am I. O Allah; stop it for me a little. They did so; when the hands of two or three persons got stuck with his hand. He said: You have misappropriated. So they took out gold equal in volume to the head of a cow. They-placed it among the spoils on the earth. Then the fire approached the spoils and devoured them. He said to Yazid: Write to him. If he were not likely to fall into folly; I would not have written to him. Write: You have written asking about the woman and the slave whether they would get a share of the booty if they participated in Jihad. You should know that there is nothing of the sort for them except that they will be given a prize. And you have written asking me about the killing of the enemy children in war. You should understand that the Messenger of Allah may peare be upon him did not kill them. and thou shouldst not kill them unless thou knew what the companion of Moses i. e. Khadir knew about the boy he had killed. And you have written asking me about the orphan as to when the period of his orphanhood comes to an end; so that the sobriquet of orphan is dropped from him. In this regard; you should know that the sobriquet orphan will not be dropped from him until he attains maturity of body and mind. And you have written asking me about the close relatives of the Holy Prophet as to who they are. I was sitting in the company of Ibn Abbas when he read his letter and wrote its reply. Ibn Abbas said: Were it not for preventing him from falling into wickedness. I would not have replied to his letter; may he never be joyful. He wrote in reply to him referring to the share of the close relatives of the Holy Prophet from the booty whom God has mentioned. I have to tell you that we thought we were the close relatives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; but our people have refused to recognise us as such. You have asked about the orphan as to when his orphanhood comes to an end. I have to say that when he reaches the age of marriage; attains maturity of mind; and his property is returned to him; then he is no longer an orphan. You have inquired whether the Messenger of Allah may peace be upo him used to kill anyone from the children of the polytheists in the war. You should know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used not to kill any one of their children; and you too should not kill any one of them; except when you knew about them what Khadir had known about the boy whom he killed. And you have inquired whether there is a fixed share of the booty for women and slaves when they participate in a battle. SahihMuslim-017-001-19151 | Yusair Bin Jabir reported: Once there blew a red storm in Kufah that there came a person who had nothing to say but these words : Abdullah Bin Masud; the Last Hour has come. He Abdullah Bin Masud was sitting reclining against something; and he said: The Last Hour would not come until shares of inheritance are not distributed and there is no rejoicing over spoils of war. Then he said pointing towards Syria; with the gesture of his hand like this: The enemy shall muster strength against Muslims and the Muslims will muster strength against them Syrians. I said: You mean Rome? And he said: Yes; and there would be a terrible fight and the Muslims would prepare a detachment for fighting unto death which would not return but victorious. They will fight until night will intervene them; both the sides will return without being victorious and both will be wiped out. The Muslims will again prepare a detachment for fighting unto death so that they may not return but victorious. When it would be the fourth day; a new detachment out of the remnant of the Muslims would be prepared and Allah will decree that the enemy should be routed. And they would fight such a fight the like of which would not be seen; so much so that even if a bird were to pass their flanks; it would fall down dead before reaching the end of them. There would be such a large scale massacre that when counting would be done; only one out of a hundred men related to one another would be found alive. So what can be the joy at the spoils of such war and what inheritance would be divided! They would be in this very state that they would hear of a calamity more horrible than this. And a cry would reach them: The Dajjal has taken your place among your offspring. They will; therefore; throw away what would be in their hands and go forward sending ten horsemen; as a scouting party. Allah Messenger ﷺ said: I know their names and the names of their forefathers and the color of their horses. SahihMuslim-017-001-20647 | mousab Bin Saad reported on the authority of his father that many verses of the Quran had been revealed in connection with him. His mother Umm Saad had taken oath that she would never talk with him until he abandoned his faith and she neither ate nor drank and said: Allah has commanded you to treat well your parents and I am your mother and I command you to do this. She passed three days in this state until she fainted because of extreme hunger and at that time her son whose name was Umara stood up and served her drink and she began to curse Saad that Allah; the Exalted and Glorions; revealed these verses of the Holy Quran: And We have enjoined upon a person goodness to his parents but if they contend with thee to associate others with Me of which you have no knowledge; then obey them not xxix. 8 ; Treat thein with customary good in this world xxxi. 15. He also reported that there fell to the lot of Allah Messenger ﷺ huge spoils of war and there was one sword in them. I picked that up and came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said: Bestow this sword upon me as my share in the spoils of war and you know my state. Thereupon he said: Return it to the place from where you picked it up. I went back until I decided to throw it in a store but my soul repulsed me so I came back and asked him to give that sword to me. He said in a loud voice to return it to the place from where I had picked it up. It was on this occasion that this verse was revealed: They asked about the spoils of war viii. 1. He further said: I once fell ill and sent a message to Allah Apostle ﷺ. He visited me and I said to him: Permit me to distribute in charity my property as much as I like. He did not agree. I said: Permit me to distribute half of it. He did not agree. I said: Permit me to distribute the third part; whereupon he kept quiet and it was after this that the distribution of one property in charity to the extent of one-third was held valid. He further said: I came to a group of persons of the Ansir and Muhajirin and they said: Come; so that we may serve you wine; and it was before the use of wine had been prohibited. I went to them in a garden and there had been with them the roasted head of a camel and a small water-skin containing wine. I ate and drank along with them and there came under discussion the Ansr Helpers and Muhajirin immigrants. I said: The immigrants are better than the Ansar; that a person picked up a portion of the head of the camel and struck me with it that my nose was injured. SahihMuslim-017-001-21667 | Anas; Allah be pleased with him reported: Safiya Allah be pleased with her fell to the lot of Dihya in the spoils of war; and they praised her in the presence of Allah Messenger ﷺ and said: We have not seen the like of her among the captives of war. He sent a messenger to Dihya and he gave him whatever he demanded. He then sent her to my mother and asked her to embellish her. Allah Messenger ﷺ then got out of Khaibar until when he was on the other side of it; he halted; and a tent was pitched for him. When it was morning Allah Messenger ﷺ said: He who has surplus of provision with him should bring that to us. Some persons would bring the surplus of dates; and the other surplus of mush of barley until there became a heap of bals. They began to eat the hais and began to drink out of the pond which had the water of rainfall in it and which was situated by their side. Anas said that that constituted the wedding feast of Allah Messenger ﷺ. He further said: We proceeded until we saw the walls of Medina; and we were delighted. We made our mounts run quickly and Allah Messenger ﷺ also made his mount run quickly. And Safiya Allah be pleased with her was at his back; and Allah Messenger ﷺ had seated her behind him. The camel of Allah Messenger ﷺ stumbled and he the Holy Prophet fell down and she also fell down. And none among the people was seeing him and her; until Allah Messeuger ﷺ stood up and he covered her; and we came to him and he said: We have received no injury. We entered Medina and there came out the young ladies of the household. SunanAlTermithi-017-001-7852 | Narrated Yazid Bin Hurmuz: That Najdah AlHaruri wrote to Ibn Abbas asking if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would fight along with women; and if he would fix a share of the spoils of war for them. Ibn Abbas wrote to him: You wrote to me asking me if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would fight along with women. He did fight along with them; as they would treat the wounded. They received something from the spoils of war; but as for their share; then he did not fix a share for them.There is something on this topic from Anas and Umm Atiyah.This Hadith isHassan Sahih. This is acted upon according to most of the people of knowledge. It is the view of Sufyan AlThawri and AlShafii. AlAwzai said: The Prophet ﷺ gave a portion to the women at Khaibar; and that was followed by the Muslims after him. Then a man from Banu AlDubaib; who was called Rifaah Bin Zaid; gave the Messenger of Allah a black slave who was called Midam. The Messenger of Allah set out for Wadi AlQura. When we were in Wadi AlQura; while Midam was unloading the luggage of the Messenger of Allah; an arrow came and killed him. The people said: Congratulations! You will go to Paradise; but the Messenger of Allah said: No; by the One in Whose hand is my soul! The cloak that he took from the spoils of war on the Day of Khaibar is burning him with fire. This Verse was revealed concerning the idolators. Whoever among them repents before he is captured; you have no way against him. This Verse does not apply to the Muslims. SunanAlNasai-017-001-14272 | It was narrated from Amr Bin Shuaib; from his father; that his grandfather said: We were with the Messenger of Allah when the delegation of Hawazin came to him and said: O Muhammad! We are one of the Arab tribes and a calamity has befallen us of which you are well aware. Do us a favor; may Allah bless you. He said: Choose between your wealth or your women and children. They said: You have given us a choice between our families and our wealth; we choose our women and children. The Messenger of Allah said: As for that which was allocated to myself and to Banu Abd AlMuttalib; it is yours. When I have prayed Zuhr; stand up and say: We seek the help of the Messenger of Allah in dealing with the believers; or the Muslims; with regard to our women and children. So when they prayed Zuhr; they stood up and said that. The Messenger of Allah said: As for that which was allocated to myself and to Banu Abd AlMuttalib; it is yours. The Muhajirun said: That which was allocated to us is for the Messenger of Allah. The Ansar said: That which was allocated to us is for the Messenger of Allah. AlAqra Bin Habis said: As for myself and Banu Tamim; then no we will not give it up. Uyaynah Bin Housn said: As for myself and Banu Fazarah; then no we will not give it up. AlAbbas Bin Mirdas said: As for myself and Banu Sulaim; then no we will not give it up. Banu Sulaim stood up and said: You lied; whatever was allocated to us; it is for the Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah said: O people; give their women and children back to them. Whoever gives back anything of these spoils of war; he will have six camels from the spoils of war that Allah grants us next. Then he mounted his riding-animal and the people surrounded him; saying: Distribute our spoils of war among us. They made him go back toward a tree on which his Rida upper-wrap got caught. He said: O people! Give me back my Rida. By Allah! If there were cattle as many in number as the trees of Tihamah I would distribute them among you; then you would not find me a miser; a coward or a liar. Then he went to a camel and took a hair from its hump between two of his fingers and said: Look! I do not have any of the spoils of war. All I have is the Khums; and the Khums will be given back to you. A man stood up holding a ball of yarn made from goat hair and said: O Messenger of Allah; I took this to fix my camel-saddle. He said: What was allocated to myself and to Banu Abd AlMuttalib is for you. He said: Is this so important? I dont need it! And he threw it down. He said: O people! SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25464 | Narrated AlSubay Ibn Mabad: I was a Christian Bedouin; then I embraced Islam. I came to a man of my tribe; who was called Hudhaym Ibn Thurmulah. I said to him. O brother; I am eager to wage war in the cause of Allah i.e. jihad ; and I find that both hajj and umrah are due from me. How can I combine them? He said: Combine them and sacrifice the animal made easily available for you. I; therefore; raised my voice in talbiyah for both of them i.e. umrah and hajj. When I reached AlUdhayb; Salman Ibn Rabiah and Zayd Ibn Suhan met me while I was raising my voice in talbiyah for both of them. One of them said to the other: This man does not have any more understanding than his camel. Thereupon it was as if a mountain fell on me. I came to Umar Ibn AlKhattab may Allah be pleased with him and said to him: Commander of the Faithful; I was a Christian Bedouin; and I have embraced Islam. I am eager to wage war in the cause of Allah jihad ; and I found that both hajj and umrah were due from me. I came to a man of my tribe who said to me: Combine both of them and sacrifice the animal easily available for you. I have raised my voice in talbiyah for both of them. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-29787 | mousab Bin Sad reported on the authority of his father Saad Bin Abi Waqqas I brought a sword to the Prophet ﷺ on the day of the Badr and I said to him Apostle of Allaah ﷺ ; Allaah has healed up my breast from the enemy today; so give me this sword. He said This sword is neither mine nor yours. I then went away saying today this will be given to a man who has not been put to trial like me. Meanwhile a messenger and came to me and said Respond; I thought something was revealed about me owing to my speech. I came and the Prophet ﷺ said to me You asked me for this sword; but this was neither mine nor yours. Now Allaah has given it to me; hence it is yours. He then recited they ask thee concerning things taken as spoils of war.
