1. Kharasha Bin Hurr reported: I was sitting in a circle in the Masjid of Medina and there was an old man; quite handsome. He was Abdullah Bin Salim. He was telling good things to them to the people sitting in that company. As he stood up to depart the people said: He who is desirous of looking at a person from amongst the people of Paradise should see him. I said: By Allah; I will follow him; and would try to know his residence. So I followed him and he walked on until he reached the outskirts of Medina. He then entered his house. I sought permission from him to get in; and he granted me the permission; saying: My nephew; what is the need that has brought you here ? I said to him: As you stood up; I heard people say about you: He who is desirous of seeing a person from among the people of Paradise should look at him. So I became desirous of accompanying you. The story is that while I was asleep one night there came to me a person in the dream who asked me to stand up. Thereupon he said to me Do not set yourself on them for these are the paths of the leftists denizens of Hell-fire. Then there were paths leading to the right side; whereupon he said: Set yourself on these paths. We came across a hill and he said to me: Climb up; and I attempted to climb up that I fell upon my buttocks. I made several attempts but failed to succeed. He led until he came to a pillar so high that its upper end touched the sky and its base was in the earth. And there was a handhold at its upper end. He said to me Climb over it. I said: How can I climb upon it; as its upper end touches the sky? He cought hold of my hand and pushed me up and I found myself suspended with the handhold. He then struck the pillar and it fell down; but I remained attached to that handhold until it was morning and the dream was thus over. I came to Allah Apostle ﷺ and narrated it to him. He said: So far as the paths which you saw on your left are concerned; these are paths of the leftists denizens of Hell and the paths which you saw on your right; these are the paths of the rightists the dwellers of Paradise and the mountain represents the destination of the martyrs which you would not be able to attain. Abu Saeed Maula AlMahri reported that they were hard pressed by the distress and hardship of Medina; and he come to AbU Saeed AlKhudri and said to him: I have a large family to support and we are enduring hardships; I have; therefore; made up my mind to take my family to some fertile land. Thereupon Abu Saeed said: Dont do that; stick to Medina; for we have come out with Allah Apostle ﷺ ; and I think that he also said until we reached Usfan; and he the Prophet along with his Companions stayed there for some nights. There the people said: By Allah; we are lying here idle; whereas our children are unprotected behind us; and we do not feel secure about them. This apprehension of theirs reached Allah Apostle ﷺ ; whereupon he said: What is this matter concerning you that has reached me? I do not retain how he said it; whether he said like this: By Him in the name of Whom I take oath; or he said like this: By Him in Whose Hand is my life; I made up my mind or if you like I do not retain what word did he actually say ; I should command my camel to proceed and not to let it halt until it comes to Medina and then said: Ibrahim declared Mecca as the sacred territory and it became sacred; and I declare Medina as the sacred territory-the area between the two mountains Air and Uhud. Thus no blood is to be shed within its bounds and no weapon is to be carried for fighting; and the leaves of the trees there should not be beaten off except for fodder. There you will meet the companions of Allah Messenger ﷺ from the Muhajirin and the Ansar who will understand your statement and place it in its proper position Umar said; By Allah; I shall do so the first time I stand to address the people in Medina. When we reached Medina; Umar in a Friday Khutba-sermon said; No doubt; Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and revealed to him the Book Quran ; and among what was revealed; was the Verse of AlRajm stoning adulterers to death. 8. Narrated Anas Bin Malik: The Prophet ﷺ said to Abu Talha ; Choose one of your boys to serve me. So Abu Talha took me to serve the Prophet ﷺ by giving me a ride behind him on his camel. So I used to serve Allah Messenger ﷺ whenever he stayed somewhere. I used to hear him saying; O Allah! I seek refuge with you Allah from worries care and grief; from incapacity and laziness; from miserliness and cowardice; from being heavily in debt and from being overpowered by other men. I saw him making a kind of cushion with a cloak or a garment for her. He then let her ride behind him. When we reached a place called AlSahba; he prepared a special meal called Hais; and asked me to invite the men who came and ate; and that was the marriage banquet given on the consummation of his marriage to her. Then he proceeded till the mountain of Uhud appeared; whereupon he said; This mountain loves us and we love it. When he approached Medina; he said; O Allah! I make the land between its i.e.; Medinas two mountains a sanctuary; as the prophet Abraham made Mecca a sanctuary. O Allah! A strong wind blew at night and a man stood up and he was blown away to a mountain called Taiy; The King of Aila sent a white mule and a sheet for wearing to the Prophet ﷺ as a present; and wrote to the Prophet ﷺ that his people would stay in their place and will pay Jizya taxation. 1 When the Prophet ﷺ reached Wadi AlQura he asked that woman how much her garden had yielded. She said; Ten Awsuq; and that was what Allah Messenger ﷺ had estimated. Then the Prophet ﷺ said; I want to reach Medina quickly; and whoever among you wants to accompany me; should hurry up. The sub-narrator Ibn Bakkar said something which meant: When the Prophet ﷺ saw Medina he said; This is Taba. And when he saw the mountain of Uhud; he said; This mountain loves us and we love it. Shall I tell you of the best amongst the Ansar? They replied in the affirmative. He said; The family of Bani n-Najjar; and then the family of Bani Saida or Bani AlHarith Bin AlKhazraj. The Prophet ﷺ added; We looked into it and found naked men and women; and behold; a flame of fire was reaching to them from underneath; and when it reached them; they cried loudly. I asked them; Who are these? They said to me; Proceed! And so we proceeded and came across a river. I think he said;.... red like blood. The Prophet ﷺ added; And behold; in the river there was a man swimming; and on the bank there was a man who had collected many stones. Behold; while the other man was swimming; he went near him. The former opened his mouth and the latter on the bank threw a stone into his mouth whereupon he went swimming again. He returned and every time the performance was repeated. I asked my two companions; Who are these two persons? They replied; Proceed! Proceed! And we proceeded till we came to a man with a repulsive appearance; the most repulsive appearance; you ever saw a man having! Beside him there was a fire and he was kindling it and running around it. I asked my companions; Who is this man ? They said to me; Proceed! Proceed! So we proceeded till we reached a garden of deep green dense vegetation; having all sorts of spring colors. In the midst of the garden there was a very tall man and I could hardly see his head because of his great height; and around him there were children in such a large number as I have never seen. I said to my companions; Who is this? They replied; Proceed! Proceed! So we proceeded till we came to a majestic huge garden; greater and better than I have ever seen! My two companions said to me; Go up and I went up. The Prophet ﷺ added; So we ascended till we reached a city built of gold and silver bricks and we went to its gate and asked the gatekeeper to open the gate; and it was opened and we entered the city and found in it; men with one side of their bodies as handsome as the handsomest person you have ever seen; and the other side as ugly as the ugliest person you have ever seen. My two companions ordered those men to throw themselves into the river. Behold; there was a river flowing across the city ; and its water was like milk in whiteness. Those men went and threw themselves in it and then returned to us after the ugliness of their bodies had disappeared and they became in the best shape. The Prophet ﷺ further added; My two companions angels said to me; This place is the Eden Paradise; and that is your place. I raised up my sight; and behold; there I saw a palace like a white cloud! My two companions said to me; That palace is your place. I said to them; May Allah bless you both! Let me enter it. They replied; As for now; you will not enter it; but you shall enter it one day. I said to them; I have seen many wonders tonight. What does all that mean which I have seen? They replied; We will inform you: As for the first man you came upon whose head was being injured with the rock; he is the symbol of the one who studies the Quran and then neither recites it nor acts on its orders; and sleeps; neglecting the enjoined prayers. As for the man you came upon whose sides of mouth; nostrils and eyes were torn off from front to back; he is the symbol of the man who goes out of his house in the morning and tells so many lies that it spreads all over the world. And those naked men and women whom you saw in a construction resembling an oven; they are the adulterers and the adulteresses. And the man whom you saw swimming in the river and given a stone to swallow; is the eater of usury Riba. And the bad looking man whom you saw near the fire kindling it and going round it; is Malik; the gatekeeper of Hell. And the tall man whom you saw in the garden; is Abraham and the children around him are those children who die with AlFitra the Islamic Faith. The narrator added: Some Muslims asked the Prophet; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! What about the children of pagans? The Prophet ﷺ replied; And also the children of pagans. The Prophet ﷺ added; My two companions added; The men you saw half handsome and half ugly were those persons who had mixed an act that was good with another that was bad; but Allah forgave them. 4. Narrated Abu Saeed AlKhudri: A bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Who is the best of mankind! The Prophet said; A man who strives for Allah Cause with his life and property; and also a man who lives all alone in a mountain path among the mountain paths to worship his Lord and save the people from his evil. 5. Abu Saeed Maula AlMahri reported that they were hard pressed by the distress and hardship of Medina; and he come to AbU Saeed AlKhudri and said to him: I have a large family to support and we are enduring hardships; I have; therefore; made up my mind to take my family to some fertile land. Thereupon Abu Saeed said: Dont do that; stick to Medina; for we have come out with Allah Apostle ﷺ ; and I think that he also said until we reached Usfan; and he the Prophet along with his Companions stayed there for some nights. There the people said: By Allah; we are lying here idle; whereas our children are unprotected behind us; and we do not feel secure about them. This apprehension of theirs reached Allah Apostle ﷺ ; whereupon he said: What is this matter concerning you that has reached me? I do not retain how he said it; whether he said like this: By Him in the name of Whom I take oath; or he said like this: By Him in Whose Hand is my life; I made up my mind or if you like I do not retain what word did he actually say ; I should command my camel to proceed and not to let it halt until it comes to Medina and then said: Ibrahim declared Mecca as the sacred territory and it became sacred; and I declare Medina as the sacred territory-the area between the two mountains Air and Uhud. Thus no blood is to be shed within its bounds and no weapon is to be carried for fighting; and the leaves of the trees there should not be beaten off except for fodder. O Allah; bless us in our city; O Allah; bless us in our sil; O Allah; bless us in our mudd; O Allah; bless us in our sa; O Allah; bless us in our mudd. O Allah; bless us in our city. O Allah; bless with this blessing two more blessings. By Him in Whose Hand is my life; there is no ravine or mountain path of Medina which is not protected by two angels until you reach there. He then said to the people: Proceed; and we; therefore; proceeded and we came to Medina By Him in Whose name we take oath and in Whose name oath is taken Hammad is in doubt about it ; we had hardly put down our camel saddles on arriving at Medina that we were attacked by the people of the tribe of Abdullah Bin Ghatafan but none dared to do it before. 6. Narrated Abu Dharr: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: O Abu Dharr. I replied: At thy service and at thy pleasure; Messenger of Allah. He then mentioned the tradition in which he said: What will you do when there the death of the people in Medina and a house will reach the value of a slave that is; a grave will be sold for a slave. I replied: Allah and His Apostle know best. Or he said: What Allah and His Apostle choose for me. He said: You must show endurance. Or he said; you may endure. He then said to me: What will you do; Abu Dharr; when you see the Ahjar AlZayt covered with blood? I replied: What Allah and His Apostle choose for me. He said: You must go to those who are like-minded. I asked: Should I not take my sword and put it on my shoulder? He replied: you would then associate yourself with the people. I then asked: What do you order me to do? You must stay at home. I asked: What should I do if people enter my house and find me? He replied: If you are afraid the gleam of the sword may dazzle you; put the end of your garment over your face in order that the one who kills you may bear the punishment of your sins and his.Abu Dawud said: No one mentioned AlMushath in the chain of this tradition except Hammad Bin Zaid. 7. Abu Huraira reported: We were in the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ that we heard a terrible sound. Thereupon Allah Apostle ﷺ said: Do you know what sound is this? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. Thereupon he said: That is a stone which was thrown seventy years before in Hell and it hasbeen constantly slipping down and now it has reached its base. 8. Usama reported that Allah Messenger ﷺ climbed up a battlement amongst the battlements of Medina and then said: You do not see what I am seeing and I am seeing the places of turmoil between your houses as the places of rainfall. SahihMuslim-017-001-19115
