1. Narrated Said: Um Khalid bint Khalid Bin Saeed said; I came to Allah Messenger ﷺ along with my father and I was wearing a yellow shirt. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Sanah Sanah! Abdullah; the sub-narrator said; It means; Nice; nice! in the Ethiopian language. Um Khalid added; Then I started playing with the seal of Prophethood. My father admonished me. But Allah Messenger ﷺ said to my father ; Leave her; Allah Messenger ﷺ then addressing me said; May you live so long that your dress gets worn out; and you will mend it many times; and then wear another till it gets worn out i.e. May Allah prolong your life. 2. Narrated Abu Hazim: Sahl Bin Saad said that a woman brought a Burda sheet to the Prophet. Sahl asked the people; Do you know what is a Burda? The people replied; It is a Shamla; a sheet with a fringe. That woman said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! I have brought it so that you may wear it. So the Prophet ﷺ took it because he was in need of it and wore it. A man among his companions; seeing him wearing it; said; O Allah Apostle! Please give it to me to wear. The Prophet ﷺ said; Yes. and gave him that sheet. When the Prophet left; the man was blamed by his companions who said; It was not nice on your part to ask the Prophet for it while you know that he took it because he was in need of it; and you also know that he the Prophet never turns down anybody request that he might be asked for. That man said; I just wanted to have its blessings as the Prophet ﷺ had put it on; so l hoped that I might be shrouded in it. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2555
3. Yahya reported: I asked Abu Salama what was revealed first from the Quran. He said: 0; the shrouded one. I said: Or Recite. Jabir said: I am narrating to you what was narrated to us by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: I stayed in Hira for one month and when my stay was completed; I come down and went into the heart of the valley. Somebody called me aloud. I looked in front of me; behind me; on the right of my side and on my left; but I did not see any body. I was again called and I looked about but saw nothing. I was called again and raised my head; and there on the Throne in the open atmosphere he; i. e. Gabriel ﷺ was sitting. I began to tremble on account of fear. I came to Khadija and said: Wrap me up. They wrapped me up and threw water on me and Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; sent down this: you who are shrouded! arise and deliver warning; your Lord magnify; your clothes cleanse. 4. Abu Saeed Khudri and Abu Huraira reported Allah Messenger ﷺ as saying: Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; said: Glory is His lower garment and Majesty is His cloak and Allah says; He who contends with Me in regard to them I shall torment him. SahihMuslim-017-001-19848
5. Sabra Juhanni reported: Allah Messenger ﷺ permitted temporary marriage for us. So I and another person went out and saw a woman of Bana Amir; who was like a young long-necked camel. We presented ourselves to her for contracting temporary marriage ; whereupon she said: What dower would you give me? I said: My cloak. And my companion also said: My cloak. And the cloak of-my companion was superior to my cloak; but I was younger than he. So when she looked at the cloak of my companion she liked it; and when she cast a glance at me I looked more attractive to her. She then said: Well; you and your cloak are sufficient for me. I remained with her for three nights; and then Allah Messenger ﷺ said: He who has any such woman with whom he had contracted temporary marriage; he should let her off. SahihMuslim-017-001-21585

Aisha reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was shrouded in three cotton garments of white Yamani stuff from Sahul; among which was neither a shirt nor a turban; and so far as Hullah is concerned there was some doubt about it in the minds of people; that it was brought for him in order to shroud him with it; but it was abandoned; and he was shrouded in three cotton garments of white Yamani stuff from Sahul. Then Abdullah Bin Abu Bakr got it and said: I would keep it in order to shroud myself in it. 7. Narrated Abu Juray Jabir Ibn Salim AlHujaymi: I saw a man whose opinion was accepted by the people; and whatever he said they submitted to it. I asked: Who is he? They said: This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I said: On you be peace; Messenger of Allah; twice. He said: Do not say On you be peace; for On you be peace is a greeting for the dead; but say Peace be upon you. I asked: You are the Messenger of Allah may peace be upon you ? He said: I am the Messenger of Allah Whom you call when a calamity befalls you and He removes it; when you suffer from drought and you call Him; He grows food for you; and when you are in a desolate land or in a desert and your camel strays and you call Him; He returns it to you. I said: Give me some advice. He said: Do not abuse anyone. He said that he did not abuse a freeman; or a slave; or a camel or a sheep thenceforth. He said: Do not look down upon any good work; and when you speak to your brother; show him a cheerful face. This is a good work. Have your lower garment halfway down your shin; if you cannot do it; have it up to the ankles. Beware of trailing the lower garment; for it is conceit and Allah does not like conceit. And if a man abuses and shames you for something which he finds in you; then do not shame him for something which you find in him; he will bear the evil consequences for it. 8. Narrated Abdullah Bin Abu Mulaika: The Prophet ﷺ was given a gift of a few silken cloaks with gold buttons. He distributed them amongst some of his companions and put Aasi de one of them for Makhrama. When Makhrama came; the Prophet said; I kept this for you. 1. Narrated Ibn Umar: My father; seeing a silken cloak being sold; said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Buy this and wear it on Fridays and when the foreign delegates pay a visit to you. He said; This is worn only by that person who will have no share in the Hereafter. Later a few silken cloaks were given to the Prophet ﷺ as a gift; and he sent one of those cloaks to Umar. Umar said to the Prophet ; How can I wear it while you have said about it what you said? The Prophet ﷺ said; I did not give it to you to wear but to sell or to give to someone else to wear. 2. Ibn Umar narrated that: Umar went out and saw a Hullah of AlIstabraq being offered for sale in the marketplace. 3. Narrated Hisham father: Aisha said; I went to Abu Bakr during his fatal illness and he asked me; In how many garments was the Prophet ﷺ shrouded? She replied; In three Suhuliya pieces of white cloth of cotton; and there was neither a shirt nor a turban among them. Abu Bakr further asked her; On which day did the Prophet die? She replied; He died on Monday. He asked; What is today? She replied; Today is Monday. He added; I hope I shall die sometime between this morning and tonight. Then he looked at a garment that he was wearing during his illness and it had some stains of saffron. Then he said; Wash this garment of mine and add two more garments and shroud me in them. I said; This is worn out. He said; A living person has more right to wear new clothes than a dead one; the shroud is only for the body pus. 4. Jabir. Bin Abdullah reported Allah Messenger ﷺ as saying: Do not walk in one sandal and do not wrap the lower garment round your knees and do not eat with your left hand and do not wrap yourself completely leaving no room for the arms to draw out and do not place one of your feet upon the other while lying on your back. Jabir Bin Abdullah reported: Allah Messenger ﷺ one day in the course of his sermon made mention of a person among his Companions who had died and had been wrapped in a shroud not long enough to cover his whole body and was buried during the night. The Apostle of Allah ﷺ reprimanded the audience that a person was buried during the night in a state that funeral prayer could not be offered over him by the Messenger of Allah. And this is permissible only when it becomes a dire necessity for a man. The Apostle of Allah ﷺ also said: When any one of you shrouds his brother; he should shroud him well. Abu Haraira reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave similitudes of a miserly man and the giver of charity as two persons who have two coats-of-mail over them with their hands pressed closely to their breasts and their collar bones. Whenever the giver of charity gives charity it the coat-of mail expands so much as to cover his finger tips and obliterate his foot prints. And whenever the miserly person intends to give charity the coat-of-mail contracts and every ring grips the place where it is. 7. Khabbab said We came to the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ while he was reclining on an outer garment in the shade of the Kabah. Complaining to him we said Do you not ask Allaah for help for us? And do you not pray to Allaah for us? He sat aright turning red in his face and said A man before you i.e.; in ancient times was caught and a pit was dug for him in the earth and then a saw was brought placed on his head and it was broken into two pieces but that did not turn him away from his religion. They were combed in iron combs in flesh and sinews above the bones. Even that did not turn them away from their religion. I swear by Allaah; Allaah will accomplish this affair until a rider will travel between Sana and Hadramaut and he will not fear anyone except Allaah; Most High nor will he fear the attack of a wolf on his sheep; but you are making haste. 8. Narrated Sahl Bin Sad: The people used to offer the prayer with the Prophet ﷺ with their waist-sheets tied round their necks because of the shortness of the sheets and the women were ordered not to lift their heads till the men had sat straight. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-172

Narrated Um Atiya: Allah Messenger ﷺ came to us and we were giving a bath to his dead daughter and said; Wash her three; five or more times with water and Sidr and sprinkle camphor on her at the end; and when you finish; notify me. Ayoub said that Hafsa narrated to him a narration similar to that of Muhammad in which it was said that the bath was to be given for an odd number of times; and the numbers 3; 5 or 7 were mentioned. Narrated Sahl: A woman brought a woven Burda sheet having edging border to the Prophet; Then Sahl asked them whether they knew what is Burda; they said that Burda is a cloak and Sahl confirmed their reply. Then the woman said; I have woven it with my own hands and I have brought it so that you may wear it. The Prophet ﷺ accepted it; and at that time he was in need of it. So he came out wearing it as his waist-sheet. A man praised it and said; Will you give it to me? How nice it is! The other people said; You have not done the right thing as the Prophet ﷺ is in need of it and you have asked for it when you know that he never turns down anybody request. The man replied; By Allah; I have not asked for it to wear it but to make it my shroud. Later it was his shroud. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-219
